Zequan Wu 531ed6d5aa [LTO][COFF] Use bitcode file names in lto native object file names.
Currently the lto native object files have names like main.exe.lto.1.obj. In
PDB, those names are used as names for each compiland. Microsoft’s tool
SizeBench uses those names to present to users the size of each object files.
So, names like main.exe.lto.1.obj is not user friendly.

This patch makes the lto native object file names more readable by using
the bitcode file names as part of the file names. For example, if the input
bitcode file has path like "path/to/foo.obj", its corresponding lto native
object file path would be "path/to/main.exe.lto.foo.obj". Since the lto native
object file name only bothers PDB, this patch only changes the lld-linker's
behavior.

Arthur Eubanks 2eade1dba4 [WPD] Use new llvm.public.type.test intrinsic for potentially publicly visible classes
Turning on opaque pointers has uncovered an issue with WPD where we currently pattern match away `assume(type.test)` in WPD so that a later LTT doesn't resolve the type test to undef and introduce an `assume(false)`. The pattern matching can fail in cases where we transform two `assume(type.test)`s into `assume(phi(type.test.1, type.test.2))`.

Currently we create `assume(type.test)` for all virtual calls that might be devirtualized. This is to support `-Wl,--lto-whole-program-visibility`.

To prevent this, all virtual calls that may not be in the same LTO module instead use a new `llvm.public.type.test` intrinsic in place of the `llvm.type.test`. Then when we know if `-Wl,--lto-whole-program-visibility` is passed or not, we can either replace all `llvm.public.type.test` with `llvm.type.test`, or replace all `llvm.public.type.test` with `true`. This prevents WPD from trying to pattern match away `assume(type.test)` for public virtual calls when failing the pattern matching will result in miscompiles.

Joseph Huber 5856f30b5a [LTO] Add configuartion option to use default optimization pipeline
This patch adds a configuration option to simply use the default pass
pipeline in favor of the LTO-specific one. We observed some severe
performance penalties when uding device-side LTO for OpenMP offloading
applications caused by the LTO-pass pipeline. This is primarily because
OpenMP uses an LLVM bitcode library to implement a GPU runtime library.
In a standard compilation we link this bitcode library into each source
file and optimize it with the default pipeline. When performing LTO we
link it late with all the files, but the bitcode library never has the
regular optimization pipeline applied to it so we miss a few
optimizations just using the LTO pipeline to optimize it.

I'm not committed to this solution, but it's the easiest method to solve
this performance regression when using LTO without changing the
optimizatin pipeline for other users.

Based on the output of include-what-you-use.

This is a big chunk of changes. It is very likely to break downstream code
unless they took a lot of care in avoiding hidden ehader dependencies, something
the LLVM codebase doesn't do that well :-/

I've tried to summarize the biggest change below:

- llvm/include/llvm-c/Core.h: no longer includes llvm-c/ErrorHandling.h
- llvm/IR/DIBuilder.h no longer includes llvm/IR/DebugInfo.h
- llvm/IR/IRBuilder.h no longer includes llvm/IR/IntrinsicInst.h
- llvm/IR/LLVMRemarkStreamer.h no longer includes llvm/Support/ToolOutputFile.h
- llvm/IR/LegacyPassManager.h no longer include llvm/Pass.h
- llvm/IR/Type.h no longer includes llvm/ADT/SmallPtrSet.h
- llvm/IR/PassManager.h no longer includes llvm/Pass.h nor llvm/Support/Debug.h

And the usual count of preprocessed lines:

Craig Topper 0f5b718030 [LTO][codegen] Add TargetLibraryInfoWrapperPass initially
Many codegen pass require this pass with useful triple info. Legacy pass manager need to
add a TargetLibraryInfo with the module info before run passes. Or the TargetLibraryInfo
will be initialized too conservative.

Arthur Eubanks 13317286f8 [NewPM] Use the default AA pipeline by default
We almost always want to use the default AA pipeline. It's very easy for
users of PassBuilder to forget to customize the AAManager to use the
default AA pipeline (for example, the NewPM C API forgets to do this).

If somebody wants a custom AA pipeline, similar to what is being done
now with the default AA pipeline registration, they can

  FAM.registerPass([&] { return std::move(MyAA); });

before calling

  PB.registerFunctionAnalyses(FAM);

For example, LTOBackend.cpp and NewPMDriver.cpp do this.

Reid Kleckner 89b57061f7 Move TargetRegistry.(h|cpp) from Support to MC
This moves the registry higher in the LLVM library dependency stack.
Every client of the target registry needs to link against MC anyway to
actually use the target, so we might as well move this out of Support.

This allows us to ensure that Support doesn't have includes from MC/*.

modimo 20faf78919 [ThinLTO] Add noRecurse and noUnwind thinlink function attribute propagation
Thinlink provides an opportunity to propagate function attributes across modules, enabling additional propagation opportunities.

This change propagates (currently default off, turn on with `disable-thinlto-funcattrs=1`) noRecurse and noUnwind based off of function summaries of the prevailing functions in bottom-up call-graph order. Testing on clang self-build:
1. There's a 35-40% increase in noUnwind functions due to the additional propagation opportunities.
2. Throughput is measured at 10-15% increase in thinlink time which itself is 1.5% of E2E link time.

Implementation-wise this adds the following summary function attributes:
1. noUnwind: function is noUnwind
2. mayThrow: function contains a non-call instruction that `Instruction::mayThrow` returns true on (e.g. windows SEH instructions)
3. hasUnknownCall: function contains calls that don't make it into the summary call-graph thus should not be propagated from (e.g. indirect for now, could add no-opt functions as well)

Testing:
Clang self-build passes and 2nd stage build passes check-all
ninja check-all with newly added tests passing

Rong Xu 5fdaaf7fd8 [SampleFDO] Flow Sensitive Sample FDO (FSAFDO) profile loader
This patch implements Flow Sensitive Sample FDO (FSAFDO) profile
loader. We have two profile loaders for FS profile,
one before RegAlloc and one before BlockPlacement.

To enable it, when -fprofile-sample-use=<profile> is specified,
add "-enable-fs-discriminator=true \
     -disable-ra-fsprofile-loader=false \
     -disable-layout-fsprofile-loader=false"
to turn on the FS profile loaders.

Yolanda Chen 8fa16cc628 [LTO][lld] Add lto-pgo-warn-mismatch option
When enable CSPGO for ThinLTO, there are profile cfg mismatch warnings that will cause lld-link errors (with /WX)
due to source changes (e.g. `#if` code runs for profile generation but not for profile use)
To disable it we have to use an internal "/mllvm:-no-pgo-warn-mismatch" option.
In contrast clang uses option ”-Wno-backend-plugin“ to avoid such warnings and gcc has an explicit "-Wno-coverage-mismatch" option.

Add "lto-pgo-warn-mismatch" option to lld COFF/ELF to help turn on/off the profile mismatch warnings explicitly when build with ThinLTO and CSPGO.

Rong Xu 886629a8c9 [SampleFDO] New hierarchical discriminator for Flow Sensitive SampleFDO
This patch implements first part of Flow Sensitive SampleFDO (FSAFDO).
It has the following changes:
(1) disable current discriminator encoding scheme,
(2) new hierarchical discriminator for FSAFDO.

For this patch, option "-enable-fs-discriminator=true" turns on the new
functionality. Option "-enable-fs-discriminator=false" (the default)
keeps the current SampleFDO behavior. When the fs-discriminator is
enabled, we insert a flag variable, namely, llvm_fs_discriminator, to
the object. This symbol will checked by create_llvm_prof tool, and used
to generate a profile with FS-AFDO discriminators enabled. If this
happens, for an extbinary format profile, create_llvm_prof tool
will add a flag to profile summary section.

Arthur Eubanks 34a8a437bf [NewPM] Hide pass manager debug logging behind -debug-pass-manager-verbose
Printing pass manager invocations is fairly verbose and not super
useful.

This allows us to remove DebugLogging from pass managers and PassBuilder
since all logging (aside from analysis managers) goes through
instrumentation now.

This has the downside of never being able to print the top level pass
manager via instrumentation, but that seems like a minor downside.

Abhina Sreeskantharajan 82b3e28e83 [SystemZ][z/OS][Windows] Add new OF_TextWithCRLF flag and use this flag instead of OF_Text
Problem:
On SystemZ we need to open text files in text mode. On Windows, files opened in text mode adds a CRLF '\r\n' which may not be desirable.

Solution:
This patch adds two new flags

  - OF_CRLF which indicates that CRLF translation is used.
  - OF_TextWithCRLF = OF_Text | OF_CRLF indicates that the file is text and uses CRLF translation.

Developers should now use either the OF_Text or OF_TextWithCRLF for text files and OF_None for binary files. If the developer doesn't want carriage returns on Windows, they should use OF_Text, if they do want carriage returns on Windows, they should use OF_TextWithCRLF.

So this is the behaviour per platform with my patch:

z/OS:
OF_None: open in binary mode
OF_Text : open in text mode
OF_TextWithCRLF: open in text mode

Windows:
OF_None: open file with no carriage return
OF_Text: open file with no carriage return
OF_TextWithCRLF: open file with carriage return

The Major change is in llvm/lib/Support/Windows/Path.inc to only set text mode if the OF_CRLF is set.

Yevgeny Rouban 39e3e3aa51 [NewPM] Redesign of PreserveCFG Checker
The reason for the NewPM redesign is described in the commit
  cba3e783389a: [NewPM] Disable PreservedCFGChecker ...

The checker introduces an internal custom CFG analysis that tracks
current up-to date CFG snapshot. The analysis is invalidated along
any other CFG related analysis (the key is CFGAnalyses). If the CFG
analysis is not invalidated at a functional pass exit then the checker
asserts that the CFG snapshot taken from this analysis is equals to
a snapshot of the current CFG.

Along the way:
- the function CFG::printDiff() is simplified by removing function
  name calculation. The name is printed by the caller;
- fixed CFG invalidated condition (see CFG::invalidate());
- StandardInstrumentations::registerCallbacks() gets additional
  optional parameter of type FunctionAnalysisManager*, which is
  needed by the checker to get the custom CFG analysis;
- several PM related tests updated to explicitly set
  -verify-cfg-preserved=1 as they need.

This patch is safe to land as the CFGChecker is left switched off
(the options -verify-cfg-preserved is false by default). It will be
switched on by a separate patch to minimize possible reverts.

Wei Mi d535a05ca1 [ThinLTO] During module importing, close one source module before open
another one for distributed mode.

Currently during module importing, ThinLTO opens all the source modules,
collect functions to be imported and append them to the destination module,
then leave all the modules open through out the lto backend pipeline. This
patch refactors it in the way that one source module will be closed before
another source module is opened. All the source modules will be closed after
importing phase is done. It will save some amount of memory when there are
many source modules to be imported.

Note that this patch only changes the distributed thinlto mode. For in
process thinlto mode, one source module is shared acorss different thinlto
backend threads so it is not changed in this patch.

Wael Yehia be646e3148 llvm-lto: default Relocation Model should be selected by the TargetMachine.
Right now, the createTargetMachine function in LTOBackend.cpp (used by llvm-lto, and other components) selects the default Relocation Model when none is specified in the module.
Other components (such as opt and llc) that construct a TargetMachine delegate the decision on the default value to the polymorphic TargetMachine's constructor.

This commit aligns llvm-lto with other components.

I've already witnessed two separate changes missing runNewPMPasses()
because runNewPMCustomPasses() is so similar.

This cleans up some duplicated code.

Florian Hahn f3a710cade [LTO] Update splitCodeGen to take a reference to the module. (NFC)
splitCodeGen does not need to take ownership of the module, as it
currently clones the original module for each split operation.

There is an ~4 year old fixme to change that, but until this is
addressed, the function can just take a reference to the module.

This makes the transition of LTOCodeGenerator to use LTOBackend a bit
easier, because under some circumstances, LTOCodeGenerator needs to
write the original module back after codegen.

Florian Hahn 2a8cbdd830
[LTO] Add support for existing Config::Freestanding option.
lto::Config has a field to control whether the build is "freestanding"
(no builtins) or not, but it is not hooked up to the code actually
running the passes.

This patch adds support for the flag to both the code that runs
optimization with the new and old pass managers, by explicitly adding a
TargetLibraryInfo instance. If Freestanding is true, all library functions
are disabled.

Jez Ng 697f4e429b [lld-macho] Run ObjCContractPass during LTO
Run the ObjCARCContractPass during LTO. The legacy LTO backend (under
LTO/ThinLTOCodeGenerator.cpp) already does this; this diff just adds that
behavior to the new LTO backend. Without that pass, the objc.clang.arc.use
intrinsic will get passed to the instruction selector, which doesn't know how to
handle it.

In order to test both the new and old pass managers, I've also added support for
the `--[no-]lto-legacy-pass-manager` flags.

P.S. Not sure if the ordering of the pass within the pipeline matters...

Florian Hahn f638c2eb4e [LTO] Replace anonymous namespace with static functions (NFC).
Only class declarations should be inside anonymous namespaces
(https://llvm.org/docs/CodingStandards.html#anonymous-namespaces)

Instead of using a anonymous namespace, just mark the functions in it as
static (some of them already were).

This simplifies the diff for D94486.
