Fangrui Song f5d3335d75 Revert r347417 "Re-Reinstate 347294 with a fix for the failures."
Kept the "indirect_builtin_constant_p" test case in test/SemaCXX/constant-expression-cxx1y.cpp
while we are investigating why the following snippet fails:

  extern char extern_var;
  struct { int a; } a = {__builtin_constant_p(extern_var)};

Hans Wennborg 48ee4ad325 Re-commit r347417 "Re-Reinstate 347294 with a fix for the failures."
This was reverted in r347656 due to me thinking it caused a miscompile of
Chromium. Turns out it was the Chromium code that was broken.

Hans Wennborg 8c79706e89 Revert r347417 "Re-Reinstate 347294 with a fix for the failures."
This caused a miscompile in Chrome (see crbug.com/908372) that's
illustrated by this small reduction:

  static bool f(int *a, int *b) {
    return !__builtin_constant_p(b - a) || (!(b - a));
  }

  int arr[] = {1,2,3};

  bool g() {
    return f(arr, arr + 3);
  }

  $ clang -O2 -S -emit-llvm a.cc -o -

g() should return true, but after r347417 it became false for some reason.

This also reverts the follow-up commits.

Bruno Ricci b94ad1e1d3 [AST] Store the string data in StringLiteral in a trailing array of chars
Use the newly available space in the bit-fields of Stmt and store the
string data in a trailing array of chars after the trailing array
of SourceLocation. This cuts the size of StringLiteral by 2 pointers.

Also refactor slightly StringLiteral::Create and StringLiteral::CreateEmpty
so that StringLiteral::Create is just responsible for the allocation, and the
constructor is responsible for doing all the initialization. This match what
is done for the other classes in general.

This patch should have no other functional changes apart from this.

A concern was raised during review about the interaction between
this patch and serialization abbreviations. I believe however that
there is currently no abbreviation defined for StringLiteral.
The only statements/expressions which have abbreviations are currently
DeclRefExpr, IntegerLiteral, CharacterLiteral and ImplicitCastExpr.

Roman Lebedev 4aaf1dca08 [AST] CastExpr: BasePathSize is not large enough.
Summary:
rC337815 / D49508 had to cannibalize one bit of `CastExprBitfields::BasePathSize` in order to squeeze `PartOfExplicitCast` boolean.
That reduced the maximal value of `PartOfExplicitCast` from 9 bits (~512) down to 8 bits (~256).
Apparently, that mattered. Too bad there weren't any tests.
It caused [[ https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38356 | PR38356 ]].

So we need to increase `PartOfExplicitCast` back at least to 9 bits, or a bit more.
For obvious reasons, we can't do that in `CastExprBitfields` - that would blow up the size of every `Expr`.
So we need to either just add a variable into the `CastExpr` (as done here),
or use `llvm::TrailingObjects`. The latter does not seem to be straight-forward.
Perhaps, that needs to be done not for the `CastExpr` itself, but for all of it's `final` children.

Summary:
This patch tackles long hanging fruit for the builtin operator<=> expressions. It is currently needs some cleanup before landing, but I want to get some initial feedback.

The main changes are:

* Lookup, build, and store the required standard library types and expressions in `ASTContext`. By storing them in ASTContext we don't need to store (and duplicate) the required expressions in the BinaryOperator AST nodes.

* Implement [expr.spaceship] checking, including diagnosing narrowing conversions.

* Implement `ExprConstant` for builtin spaceship operators.

* Implement builitin operator<=> support in `CodeGenAgg`. Initially I emitted the required comparisons using `ScalarExprEmitter::VisitBinaryOperator`, but this caused the operand expressions to be emitted once for every required cmp.

* Implement [builtin.over] with modifications to support the intent of P0946R0. See the note on `BuiltinOperatorOverloadBuilder::addThreeWayArithmeticOverloads` for more information about the workaround.

Because of the volume of changes, I explicitly avoided making any change
that wasn't highly local and obviously correct to me (e.g. we still have
a number of foo(cast<Bar>(baz)) that I didn't touch, since overloading
is a thing and the cast<Bar> did actually change the type -- just up the
class hierarchy).

Yaxun Liu 39195062c2 Add OpenCL 2.0 atomic builtin functions as Clang builtin
OpenCL 2.0 atomic builtin functions have a scope argument which is ideally
represented as synchronization scope argument in LLVM atomic instructions.

Clang supports translating Clang atomic builtin functions to LLVM atomic
instructions. However it currently does not support synchronization scope
of LLVM atomic instructions. Without this, users have to use LLVM assembly
code to implement OpenCL atomic builtin functions.

This patch adds OpenCL 2.0 atomic builtin functions as Clang builtin
functions, which supports generating LLVM atomic instructions with
synchronization scope operand.

Currently only constant memory scope argument is supported. Support of
non-constant memory scope argument will be added later.

2. Correctly detect and transform the 'co_await' operand to `p.await_transform(<expr>)` when possible.

Richard Smith 410306bf6e Add two new AST nodes to represent initialization of an array in terms of
initialization of each array element:

 * ArrayInitLoopExpr is a prvalue of array type with two subexpressions:
   a common expression (an OpaqueValueExpr) that represents the up-front
   computation of the source of the initialization, and a subexpression
   representing a per-element initializer
 * ArrayInitIndexExpr is a prvalue of type size_t representing the current

This will be used to replace the creation of explicit index variables in lambda
capture of arrays and copy/move construction of classes with array elements,
and also C++17 structured bindings of arrays by value (which inexplicably allow
copying an array by value, unlike all of C++'s other array declarations).

Yaxun Liu 0bc4b2d337 [OpenCL] Generate opaque type for sampler_t and function call for the initializer
Currently Clang use int32 to represent sampler_t, which have been a source of issue for some backends, because in some backends sampler_t cannot be represented by int32. They have to depend on kernel argument metadata and use IPA to find the sampler arguments and global variables and transform them to target specific sampler type.

This patch uses opaque pointer type opencl.sampler_t* for sampler_t. For each use of file-scope sampler variable, it generates a function call of __translate_sampler_initializer. For each initialization of function-scope sampler variable, it generates a function call of __translate_sampler_initializer.

Each builtin library can implement its own __translate_sampler_initializer(). Since the real sampler type tends to be architecture dependent, allowing it to be initialized by a library function simplifies backend design. A typical implementation of __translate_sampler_initializer could be a table lookup of real sampler literal values. Since its argument is always a literal, the returned pointer is known at compile time and easily optimized to finally become some literal values directly put into image read instructions.

This patch is partially based on Alexey Sotkin's work in Khronos Clang (3d4eec6162).

Replace inheriting constructors implementation with new approach, voted into
C++ last year as a DR against C++11.

Instead of synthesizing a set of derived class constructors for each inherited
base class constructor, we make the constructors of the base class visible to
constructor lookup in the derived class, using the normal rules for
using-declarations.

For constructors, UsingShadowDecl now has a ConstructorUsingShadowDecl derived
class that tracks the requisite additional information. We create shadow
constructors (not found by name lookup) in the derived class to model the
actual initialization, and have a new expression node,
CXXInheritedCtorInitExpr, to model the initialization of a base class from such
a constructor. (This initialization is special because it performs real perfect
forwarding of arguments.)

In cases where argument forwarding is not possible (for inalloca calls,
variadic calls, and calls with callee parameter cleanup), the shadow inheriting
constructor is not emitted and instead we directly emit the initialization code
into the caller of the inherited constructor.

Note that this new model is not perfectly compatible with the old model in some
corner cases. In particular:
 * if B inherits a private constructor from A, and C uses that constructor to
   construct a B, then we previously required that A befriends B and B
   befriends C, but the new rules require A to befriend C directly, and
 * if a derived class has its own constructors (and so its implicit default
   constructor is suppressed), it may still inherit a default constructor from
   a base class

Douglas Gregor e83b95641f Substitute type arguments into uses of Objective-C interface members.
When messaging a method that was defined in an Objective-C class (or
category or extension thereof) that has type parameters, substitute
the type arguments for those type parameters. Similarly, substitute
into property accesses, instance variables, and other references.

This includes general infrastructure for substituting the type
arguments associated with an ObjCObject(Pointer)Type into a type
referenced within a particular context, handling all of the
substitutions required to deal with (e.g.) inheritance involving
parameterized classes. In cases where no type arguments are available
(e.g., because we're messaging via some unspecialized type, id, etc.),
we substitute in the type bounds for the type parameters instead.

Example:

  @interface NSSet<T : id<NSCopying>> : NSObject <NSCopying>
  - (T)firstObject;
  @end

  void f(NSSet<NSString *> *stringSet, NSSet *anySet) {
    [stringSet firstObject]; // produces NSString*
    [anySet firstObject]; // produces id<NSCopying> (the bound)
  }

When substituting for the type parameters given an unspecialized
context (i.e., no specific type arguments were given), substituting
the type bounds unconditionally produces type signatures that are too
strong compared to the pre-generics signatures. Instead, use the
following rule:

  - In covariant positions, such as method return types, replace type
    parameters with “id” or “Class” (the latter only when the type
    parameter bound is “Class” or qualified class, e.g,
    “Class<NSCopying>”)
  - In other positions (e.g., parameter types), replace type
    parameters with their type bounds.
  - When a specialized Objective-C object or object pointer type
    contains a type parameter in its type arguments (e.g.,
    NSArray<T>*, but not NSArray<NSString *> *), replace the entire
    object/object pointer type with its unspecialized version (e.g.,
    NSArray *).

This patch attempts to fix this problem.

Given the following code snippet,

struct P1 { char x[6]; };
struct LP1 { struct P1 p1; };

struct LP1 l = { .p1 = { "foo" }, .p1.x[2] = 'x' };
// this example is adapted from the example for "struct fred x[]" in DR-253;
// currently clang produces in l: { "\0\0x" },
//   whereas gcc 4.8 produces { "fox" };
// with this fix, clang will also produce: { "fox" };

Kaelyn Takata 0a2e84c41a Properly implement warn_unused_result checking for classes/structs.
The previous implementation would copy the attribute from the class to
functions that have the class as their return type when the functions
are first declared. This proved to have two flaws:
  1) if the class is forward-declared without the attribute and a
     function or method with the class as a its return type is declared,
     and afterward the class is defined with warn_unused_result, the
     function or method would never inherit the attribute, and
  2) the check simply failed for functions and methods that are part of
     a template instantiation, regardless of whether the class with
     warn_unused_result is part of a specific instantiation or part of
     the template itself (presumably because those function/method
     declaration does not hit the same code path as a non-template one
     and so never inherits the attribute).

The new approach is to instead modify the two places where a function or
method call is checked for the warn_unused_result attribute on the decl
by extending the checks to also look for the attribute on the decl's
return type.

Additionally, the check for return types that have the warn_unused_result
now excludes pointers and references to such types, as such return types do
not necessarily imply a transfer of ownership for the underlying object
being referred to by the return value. This does not change the behavior
of functions that are directly given the warn_unused_result attribute.

Reid Kleckner d60b82f93e Handle use of default member initializers before end of outermost class
Specifically, when we have this situation:
  struct A {
    template <typename T> struct B {
      int m1 = sizeof(A);
    };
    B<int> m2;
  };

We can't parse m1's initializer eagerly because we need A to be
complete. Therefore we wait until the end of A's class scope to parse
it. However, we can trigger instantiation of B before the end of A,
which will attempt to instantiate the field decls eagerly, and it would
build a bad field decl instantiation that said it had an initializer but
actually lacked one.

Fixed by deferring instantiation of default member initializers until
they are needed during constructor analysis. This addresses a long
standing FIXME in the code.

Summary:
When the CallExpr passed to Sema::ConvertArgumentsForCall has all default parameters, and the number of actual arguments passed is zero, this function will segfault in the call to Call->getLocStart() if the Callee has an invalid getLocStart(), the reason being that since ConvertArgumentsForCall has set the correct number of arguments, but has not filled them in yet, getLocStart() will try to access the first (not yet existent) argument and thus segfaults.

This fixes that by making getLocStart return an invalid source location if the queried argument is NULL rather than segfaulting.

Alp Toker bfa3934f27 Rename language option MicrosoftMode to MSVCCompat
There's been long-standing confusion over the role of these two options. This
commit makes the necessary changes to differentiate them clearly, following up
from r198936.

MicrosoftExt (aka. fms-extensions):
 Enable largely unobjectionable Microsoft language extensions to ease
 portability. This mode, also supported by gcc, is used for building software
 like FreeBSD and Linux kernel extensions that share code with Windows drivers.

MSVCCompat (aka. -fms-compatibility, formerly MicrosoftMode):
 Turn on a special mode supporting 'heinous' extensions for drop-in
 compatibility with the Microsoft Visual C++ product. Standards-compilant C and
 C++ code isn't guaranteed to work in this mode. Implies MicrosoftExt.

Note that full -fms-compatibility mode is currently enabled by default on the
Windows target, which may need tuning to serve as a reasonable default.

Hal Finkel c4d7c82c7f Add the intrinsic __builtin_convertvector
LLVM supports applying conversion instructions to vectors of the same number of
elements (fptrunc, fptosi, etc.) but there had been no way for a Clang user to
cause such instructions to be generated when using builtin vector types.

C-style casting on vectors is already defined in terms of bitcasts, and so
cannot be used for these conversions as well (without leading to a very
confusing set of semantics). As a result, this adds a __builtin_convertvector
intrinsic (patterned after the OpenCL __builtin_astype intrinsic). This is
intended to aid the creation of vector intrinsic headers that create generic IR
instead of target-dependent intrinsics (in other words, this is a generic
_mm_cvtepi32_ps). As noted in the documentation, the action of
__builtin_convertvector is defined in terms of the action of a C-style cast on
each vector element.

Richard Smith cc1b96d356 PR12086, PR15117
Introduce CXXStdInitializerListExpr node, representing the implicit
construction of a std::initializer_list<T> object from its underlying array.
The AST representation of such an expression goes from an InitListExpr with a
flag set, to a CXXStdInitializerListExpr containing a MaterializeTemporaryExpr
containing an InitListExpr (possibly wrapped in a CXXBindTemporaryExpr).

This more detailed representation has several advantages, the most important of
which is that the new MaterializeTemporaryExpr allows us to directly model
lifetime extension of the underlying temporary array. Using that, this patch
*drastically* simplifies the IR generation of this construct, provides IR
generation support for nested global initializer_list objects, fixes several
bugs where the destructors for the underlying array would accidentally not get
invoked, and provides constant expression evaluation support for
std::initializer_list objects.

David Blaikie 7d17010db5 Use only explicit bool conversion operator
The most common (non-buggy) case are where such objects are used as
return expressions in bool-returning functions or as boolean function
arguments. In those cases I've used (& added if necessary) a named
function to provide the equivalent (or sometimes negative, depending on
convenient wording) test.

DiagnosticBuilder kept its implicit conversion operator owing to the
prevalent use of it in return statements.

One bug was found in ExprConstant.cpp involving a comparison of two
PointerUnions (PointerUnion did not previously have an operator==, so
instead both operands were converted to bool & then compared). A test
is included in test/SemaCXX/constant-expression-cxx1y.cpp for the fix
(adding operator== to PointerUnion in LLVM).

This is inspired by a number of false positives in real code, including

offending expressions as arguments to a no-op macro to ensure that we do warn

This also removes my previous tweak from r166522/r166534, so that we warn on
unused cast expressions in macro arguments.

There were several test cases that were using -Wunused-value to test general
diagnostic emission features; I changed those to use other warnings or warn on
a macro argument expression. I stared at the test case for PR14399 for a while

David Blaikie 1c7c8f7637 Implement warning for integral null pointer constants other than the literal 0.
This is effectively a warning for code that violates core issue 903 & thus will
become standard error in the future, hopefully. It catches strange null
pointers such as: '\0', 1 - 1, const int null = 0; etc...

There's currently a flaw in this warning (& the warning for 'false' as a null
pointer literal as well) where it doesn't trigger on comparisons (ptr == '\0'
for example). Fix to come in a future patch.

Also, due to this only being a warning, not an error, it triggers quite
frequently on gtest code which tests expressions for null-pointer-ness in a
SFINAE context (so it wouldn't be a problem if this was an error as in an
actual implementation of core issue 903). To workaround this for now, the
diagnostic does not fire in unevaluated contexts.

Richard Smith 0421ce7b22 Teach Expr::HasSideEffects about all the Expr types, and fix a bug where it
was mistakenly classifying dynamic_casts which might throw as having no side
effects.

Switch it from a visitor to a switch, so it is kept up-to-date as future Expr
nodes are added. Move it from ExprConstant.cpp to Expr.cpp, since it's not
really related to constant expression evaluation.

Since we use HasSideEffect to determine whether to emit an unused global with
internal linkage, this has the effect of suppressing emission of globals in
some cases.

I've left many of the Objective-C cases conservatively assuming that the
expression has side-effects. I'll leave it to someone with better knowledge
of Objective-C than mine to improve them.

Benjamin Kramer 1ea8e092be Drop the ASTContext.h include from Stmt.h and fix up transitive users.
This required moving the ctors for IntegerLiteral and FloatingLiteral out of
line which shouldn't change anything as they are usually called through Create
methods that are already out of line.

ASTContext::Deallocate has been a nop for a long time, drop it from ASTVector
and make it independent from ASTContext.h

Pass the StorageAllocator directly to AccessedEntity so it doesn't need to
have a definition of ASTContext around.

Rafael Espindola ecbe2e9795 Fix another issue with devirtualizing calls to final methods by passing them
the correct this pointer. There is some potential for sharing a bit more
code with canDevirtualizeMemberFunctionCalls, but that can be done in an
independent patch.

Rafael Espindola 49e860b248 During codegen of a virtual call we would extract any casts in the expression
to see if we had an underlying final class or method, but we would then
use the cast type to do the call, resulting in a direct call to the wrong
method.

Eli Friedman c11535c248 Add a warning to diagnose statements in C++ like "*(volatile int*)x;". Conceptually, this is part of -Wunused-value, but I added a separate flag -Wunused-volatile-lvalue so it doesn't get turned off by accident with -Wno-unused-value. I also made a few minor improvements to existing unused value warnings in the process. <rdar://problem/11516811>.
