Max Sagebaum dda978eef8 [clang-format] Option for empty lines after an access modifier.
The current logic for access modifiers in classes ignores the option 'MaxEmptyLinesToKeep=1'. It is therefore impossible to have a coding style that requests one empty line after an access modifier. The patch allows the user to configure how many empty lines clang-format should add after an access modifier. This will remove lines if there are to many and will add them if there are missing.

Tim Wojtulewicz f7f9f94b2e [clang-format] Rework Whitesmiths mode to use line-level values in UnwrappedLineParser
This commit removes the old way of handling Whitesmiths mode in favor of just setting the
levels during parsing and letting the formatter handle it from there. It requires a bit of
special-casing during the parsing, but ends up a bit cleaner than before. It also removes
some of switch/case unit tests that don't really make much sense when dealing with
Whitesmiths.

Jakub Budiský 2a42c759ae [clang-format] [PR19056] Add support for access modifiers indentation
Adds support for coding styles that make a separate indentation level for access modifiers, such as Code::Blocks or QtCreator.

The new option, `IndentAccessModifiers`, if enabled, forces the content inside classes, structs and unions (“records”) to be indented twice while removing a level for access modifiers. The value of `AccessModifierOffset` is disregarded in this case, aiming towards an ease of use.

======
The PR (https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19056) had an implementation attempt by @MyDeveloperDay already (https://reviews.llvm.org/D60225) but I've decided to start from scratch. They differ in functionality, chosen approaches, and even the option name. The code tries to re-use the existing functionality to achieve this behavior, limiting possibility of breaking something else.

mydeveloperday e9e6e3b34a [clang-format] Add IndentPragma style to eliminate common clang-format off scenario
A quick search of github.com, shows one common scenario for excessive use of //clang-format off/on is the indentation of #pragma's, especially around the areas of loop optimization or OpenMP

This revision aims to help that by introducing an `IndentPragmas` style, the aim of which is to keep the pragma at the current level of scope

```
    for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
// clang-format off
        #pragma HLS UNROLL
        // clang-format on
        for (int j = 0; j < 5; j++) {
// clang-format off
            #pragma HLS UNROLL
            // clang-format on
     ....
```

can become

```
    for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++) {
        #pragma HLS UNROLL
        for (int j = 0; j < 5; j++) {
            #pragma HLS UNROLL
Summary:
The MultiLine option in BreakBeforeBraces was only handling standard
control statement, leading to invalid indentation with for each macros:
Previous behavior:
}
/* valid */
Q_FOREACH(int longVariable;
To fix this, simply add the TT_ForEachMacro kind in the list of
mydeveloperday 0487f6f19c [clang-format] Fix short block when braking after control statement
Summary:
This patch fixes bug #44192
When clang-format is run with option AllowShortBlocksOnASingleLine, it is expected to either succeed in putting the short block with its control statement on a single line or fail and leave the block as is. When brace wrapping after control statement is activated, if the block + the control statement length is superior to column limit but the block alone is not, clang-format puts the block in two lines: one for the control statement and one for the block. This patch removes this unexpected behaviour. Current unittests are updated to check for this behaviour.
Summary:
Found a bug introduced with BraceWrappingFlags AfterControlStatement MultiLine. This feature conflicts with the existing BeforeCatch and BeforeElse flags.
For example, our team uses BeforeElse.
if (foo ||
}
else {
  doSomethingElse();
}
If we enable MultiLine (which we'd really love to do) we expect it to work like this:
if (foo ||
    bar)
{
  doSomething();
}
else {
  doSomethingElse();
}
What we actually get is:
if (foo ||
    bar)
{
  doSomething();
}
else
{
  doSomethingElse();
}
Paul Hoad fb13e65acf [clang-format] Add ability to wrap braces after multi-line control statements
Summary:
Change the BraceWrappingFlags' AfterControlStatement from a bool to an enum with three values:
* "Never": This is the default, and does not do any brace wrapping after control statements.
* "MultiLine": This only wraps braces after multi-line control statements (this really only happens when a ColumnLimit is specified).
* "Always": This always wraps braces after control statements.
The first and last options are backwards-compatible with "false" and "true", respectively.
The new "MultiLine" option is useful for when a wrapped control statement's indentation matches the subsequent block's indentation. It makes it easier to see at a glance where the control statement ends and where the block's code begins. For example:
```
if (
  foo
  && bar )
{
  baz();
}
```
vs.
```
if (
  foo
  && bar ) {
  baz();
}
```
Short control statements (1 line) do not wrap the brace to the next line, e.g.
```
if (foo) {
  bar();
} else {
  baz();
}
```
Francois Ferrand e8a301f87f clang-format: better handle namespace macros
Summary:
Other macros are used to declare namespaces, and should thus be handled
similarly. This is the case for crpcut's TESTSUITE macro, or for
unittest-cpp's SUITE macro:
      TESTSUITE(Foo) {
      TEST(MyFirstTest) {
        assert(0);
      }
      } // TESTSUITE(Foo)
This patch deals with this cases by introducing a new option to specify
lists of namespace macros. Internally, it re-uses the system already in
place for foreach and statement macros, to ensure there is no impact on
performance.
Paul Hoad cbb726d0c5 [clang-format] Add basic support for formatting C# files
Summary:
This revision adds basic support for formatting C# files with clang-format, I know the barrier to entry is high here  so I'm sending this revision in to test the water as to whether this might be something we'd consider landing.
Tracking in Bugzilla as:
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40850
Justification:
C# code just looks ugly in comparison to the C++ code in our source tree which is clang-formatted.
I've struggled with Visual Studio reformatting to get a clean and consistent style, I want to format our C# code on saving like I do now for C++ and i want it to have the same style as defined in our .clang-format file, so it consistent as it can be with C++.  (Braces/Breaking/Spaces/Indent etc..)
Using clang format without this patch leaves the code in a bad state, sometimes when the BreakStringLiterals is set, it  fails to compile.
Mostly the C# is similar to Java, except instead of JavaAnnotations I try to reuse the TT_AttributeSquare.
Almost the most valuable portion is to have a new Language in order to partition the configuration for C# within a common .clang-format file, with the auto detection on the .cs extension. But there are other C# specific styles that could be added later if this is accepted. in particular how  `{ set;get }` is formatted.
                      [this, liveness](const leader::ReadRecordReq& req,
                                       std::function<void()> done) {
                        logger_->HandleReadRecord(
                      });
}
```

The tool favors extra indentation for the lambda body and so the code incurs extra wrapping and adjacent calls are indented to a different level. I find this behavior annoying and I'd like the tool to favor new lines and, thus, use the extra width.

The fix, reduced, brings the following formatting.

Before:

    function(1,
             [] {
               DoStuff();
               //
             },
             1);

After:

    function(
        1,
        [] {
          DoStuff();
          //
        },
        1);

This fixes formatting namespaces with preceding 'inline' and 'export' (Modules TS) specifiers.

This change fixes namespaces not being identified as such with preceding 'inline' or 'export' specifiers.

Motivation: I was experimenting with the Modules TS (-fmodules-ts) and found it would be useful if clang-format would correctly format 'export namespace'. While making the changes, I noticed that similar issues still exist with 'inline namespace', and addressed them as well.

Manuel Klimek 0dddcf78b8 Format closing braces when reformatting the line containing the opening brace.
This required a couple of yaks to be shaved:
1. MatchingOpeningBlockLineIndex was misused to also store the
   closing index; instead, use a second variable, as this doesn't
   work correctly for "} else {".
2. We needed to change the API of AffectedRangeManager to not
   use iterators; we always passed in begin / end for the whole
   container before, so there was no mismatch in generality.
3. We need an extra check to discontinue formatting at the top
   level, as we now sometimes change the indent of the closing
   brace, but want to bail out immediately afterwards, for
   example:
     void f() {
       if (a) {
     }
     void g();
   Previously:
     void f() {

Krasimir Georgiev 3b0b50bac5 [clang-format] Fixed one-line if statement
Summary:
**Short overview:**

Fixed bug: https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34001
Clang-format bug resulting in a strange behavior of control statements short blocks. Different flags combinations do not guarantee expected result. Turned on option AllowShortBlocksOnASingleLine does not work as intended.

**Description of the problem:**

Cpp source file UnwrappedLineFormatter does not handle AllowShortBlocksOnASingleLine flag as it should. Putting a single-line control statement without any braces, clang-format works as expected (depending on AllowShortIfStatementOnASingleLine or AllowShortLoopsOnASingleLine value). Putting a single-line control statement in braces, we can observe strange and incorrect behavior.
Our short block is intercepted by tryFitMultipleLinesInOne function. The function returns a number of lines to be merged. Unfortunately, our control statement block is not covered properly. There are several if-return statements, but none of them handles our block. A block is identified by the line first token and by left and right braces. A function block works as expected, there is such an if-return statement doing proper job. A control statement block, from the other hand, falls into strange conditional construct, which depends on BraceWrapping.AfterFunction flag (with condition that the line’s last token is left brace, what is possible in our case) or goes even further. That should definitely not happen.

**Description of the patch:**

By adding three different if statements, we guarantee that our short control statement block, however it looks like (different brace wrapping flags may be turned on), is handled properly and does not fall into wrong conditional construct. Depending on appropriate options we return either 0 (when something disturbs our merging attempt) or let another function (tryMergeSimpleBlock) take the responsibility of returned result (number of merged lines). Nevertheless, one more correction is required in mentioned tryMergeSimpleBlock function. The function, previously, returned either 0 or 2. The problem was that this did not handle the case when our block had the left brace in a separate line, not the header one. After change, after adding condition, we return the result compatible with block’s structure. In case of left brace in the header’s line we do everything as before the patch. In case of left brace in a separate line we do the job similar to the one we do in case of a “non-header left brace” function short block. To be precise, we try to merge the block ignoring the header line. Then, if success, we increment our returned result.

**After fix:**

**CONFIG:**
```
AllowShortBlocksOnASingleLine: true
AllowShortIfStatementsOnASingleLine: true
BreakBeforeBraces: Custom
BraceWrapping: {
AfterClass: true, AfterControlStatement: true, AfterEnum: true, AfterFunction: true, AfterNamespace: false, AfterStruct: true, AfterUnion: true, BeforeCatch: true, BeforeElse: true
}
```

if (statement) { doSomething(); }
if (statement) {

}
if (statement)
{
    doSomething();
}
if (statement)
    doSomething();
if (statement) {
    doSomething1();
    doSomething2();

Krasimir Georgiev ad47c90767 clang-format: Add preprocessor directive indentation
Summary:
This is an implementation for [bug 17362](https://bugs.llvm.org/attachment.cgi?bugid=17362) which adds support for indenting preprocessor statements inside if/ifdef/endif. This takes previous work from fmauch (https://github.com/fmauch/clang/tree/preprocessor_indent) and makes it into a full feature.
The context of this patch is that I'm a VMware intern, and I implemented this because VMware needs the feature. As such, some decisions were made based on what VMware wants, and I would appreciate suggestions on expanding this if necessary to use-cases other people may want.

This adds a new enum config option, `IndentPPDirectives`. Values are:

* `PPDIS_None` (in config: `None`):
```
    #if FOO
    #if BAR
    #include <foo>
    #endif
    #endif
```
* `PPDIS_AfterHash` (in config: `AfterHash`):
```
    #if FOO
    #  if BAR
    #    include <foo>
    #  endif
    #endif
```
This is meant to work whether spaces or tabs are used for indentation. Preprocessor indentation is independent of indentation for non-preprocessor lines.

Preprocessor indentation also attempts to ignore include guards with the checks:
1. Include guards cover the entire file
2. Include guards don't have `#else`
3. Include guards begin with
```
#ifndef <var>
#define <var>
```

This patch allows `UnwrappedLineParser::PPBranchLevel` to be decremented to -1 (the initial value is -1) so the variable can be used for indent tracking.

Defects:
* This patch does not handle the case where there's code between the `#ifndef` and `#define` but all other conditions hold. This is because when the #define line is parsed, `UnwrappedLineParser::Lines` doesn't hold the previous code line yet, so we can't detect it. This is out of the scope of this patch.

* This patch does not handle cases where legitimate lines may be outside an include guard. Examples are `#pragma once` and `#pragma GCC diagnostic`, or anything else that does not change the meaning of the file if it's included multiple times.

* This does not detect when there is a single non-preprocessor line in front of an include-guard-like structure where other conditions hold because `ScopedLineState` hides the line.

* Preprocessor indentation throws off `TokenAnnotator::setCommentLineLevels` so the indentation of comments immediately before indented preprocessor lines is toggled on each run. Fixing this issue appears to be a major change and too much complexity for this patch.

The `SplitEmptyFunction` option name has also been simplified/
shortened (from `SplitEmptyFunctionBody`).

These options are helpful when the correspond AfterXXX option is
enabled, to allow merging the empty record:

  class Foo
  {};

In addition, this fixes an unexpected merging of short records, when
the AfterXXXX options are used, which caused to be formatted like
this:

  class Foo

This is now properly formatted as:

  class Foo

This has as a consequence led to a change in the calculation of indent

Daniel Jasper f67c32466d clang-format: Be slightly more cautious when formatting subsequent lines after a change. With r251474, clang-format could indent the entire rest of the file, if there is a missing closing brace, e.g. while writing code in an editor.
Summary:
With this change, clang-format stops formatting when either it leaves
the current scope or when it comes back to the initial scope after
going into a nested one.

Daniel Jasper 75bf203def clang-format: Increase cut-off limit for number of analyzed states.
With more complex structures in C++ Lambdas and JavaScript function
literals, the old value was simply to small. However, this is a
temporary solution, I need to look at this more closely a) to find a
fundamentally better approach and b) to look at whether the more recent
usage of NoLineBreak makes us visit stuff in an unfortunate order
where clang-format waste many states in dead ends.

Daniel Jasper c1bc38ed4f clang-format: Add a new brace style "custom" as well as flags to
control the individual braces. The existing choices for brace wrapping
are now merely presets for the different flags that get expanded upon
calling the reformat function.

All presets have been chose to keep the existing formatting, so there
shouldn't be any difference in formatting behavior.

Also change the dump_format_style.py to properly document the nested
structs that are used to keep these flags discoverable among all the
configuration flags.

Manuel Klimek 3d3ea84a4f Refactor clang-format's formatter.
Summary:
a) Pull out a class LevelIndentTracker whose responsibility is to keep track
   of the indent of levels across multiple annotated lines.
b) Put all responsibility for merging lines into the LineJoiner; make the
   LineJoiner iterate over the lines so we never operate on a line that might
   be merged later; this makes the interface safer to use.
c) Move formatting of the end-of-file whitespace into formatFirstToken.

Fix bugs that became obvious after the refactoring:
1. We would not format lines with offsets correctly inside nested blocks if
   only the outer expression was affected:
   int x = s({ // clang-format only this line
     class X {
       public:
    // ^ this starts at the non-modified indnent level; previously we would
    // not fix this, now we correctly outdent it.
       void f();
     };
   });
2. We would incorrectly align comments across lines that do not have comments
   for lines with nested blocks:
   int expression; // with comment
   int x = s({
     int y; // comment
     int z; // we would incorrectly align this comment with the comment on
            // 'expression'
   });
