Eli Friedman 75631c97ba [ARM] Prefer BIC over BFC in ARM mode.
BIC is generally faster, and it can put the output in a different
register from the input.

We already do this in Thumb2 mode; not sure why the equivalent fix
never got applied to ARM mode.

Aditya Nandakumar eb80a51b52 [GlobalISel]: Fix bug where we can report GISelFailure on erased instructions

Gor Nishanov 138ad6c9c0 [coroutines] Insert spills of PHI instructions correctly
Summary:
Fix a bug where we were inserting a spill in between the PHIs in the beginning of the block.
Consider this fragment:

```
begin:
  %phi1 = phi i32 [ 0, %entry ], [ 2, %alt ]
  %phi2 = phi i32 [ 1, %entry ], [ 3, %alt ]
  %sp1 = call i8 @llvm.coro.suspend(token none, i1 false)
  switch i8 %sp1, label %suspend [i8 0, label %resume
                                  i8 1, label %cleanup]
resume:
  call i32 @print(i32 %phi1)
```
Unless we are spilling the argument or result of the invoke, we were always inserting the spill immediately following the instruction.
The fix adds a check that if the spilled instruction is a PHI Node, select an appropriate insert point with `getFirstInsertionPt()` that
skips all the PHI Nodes and EH pads.

Matthew Simpson 11fe2e9f2b Reapply r298620: [LV] Vectorize GEPs
This patch reapplies r298620. The original patch was reverted because of two
issues. First, the patch exposed a bug in InstCombine that caused the Chromium
builds to fail (PR32414). This issue was fixed in r299017. Second, the patch
introduced a bug in the vectorizer's scalars analysis that caused test suite
builds to fail on SystemZ. The scalars analysis was too aggressive and marked a
memory instruction scalar, even though it was going to be vectorized. This
issue has been fixed in the current patch and several new test cases for the
scalars analysis have been added.

Petar Jovanovic bc54eb89ad [mips][msa] Fix generation of bm(n)zi and bins[lr]i instructions
We have two cases here, the first one being the following instruction
selection from the builtin function:
bm(n)zi builtin -> vselect node -> bins[lr]i machine instruction

In case of bm(n)zi having an immediate which has either its high or low bits
set, a bins[lr] instruction can be selected through the selectVSplatMask[LR]
function. The function counts the number of bits set, and that value is
being passed to the bins[lr]i instruction as its immediate, which in turn
copies immediate modulo the size of the element in bits plus 1 as per specs,
where we get the off-by-one-error.

The other case is:
bins[lr]i -> vselect node -> bsel.v

In this case, a bsel.v instruction gets selected with a mask having one bit
less set than required.

Simon Dardis 6470ff0b24 [SelectionDAG] Enable target specific vector scalarization of calls and returns
By target hookifying getRegisterType, getNumRegisters, getVectorBreakdown,
backends can request that LLVM to scalarize vector types for calls
and returns.

The MIPS vector ABI requires that vector arguments and returns are passed in
integer registers. With SelectionDAG's new hooks, the MIPS backend can now
handle LLVM-IR with vector types in calls and returns. E.g.
'call @foo(<4 x i32> %4)'.

Previously these cases would be scalarized for the MIPS O32/N32/N64 ABI for
calls and returns if vector types were not legal. If vector types were legal,
a single 128bit vector argument would be assigned to a single 32 bit / 64 bit
integer register.

By teaching the MIPS backend to inspect the original types, it can now
implement the MIPS vector ABI which requires a particular method of
scalarizing vectors.

Previously, the MIPS backend relied on clang to scalarize types such as "call
@foo(<4 x float> %a) into "call @foo(i32 inreg %1, i32 inreg %2, i32 inreg %3,
i32 inreg %4)".

This patch enables the MIPS backend to take either form for vector types.

Daniel Berlin d952ceae2f AliasAnalysis: Be less conservative about volatile than atomic.
Summary:
getModRefInfo is meant to answer the question "what impact does this
instruction have on a given memory location" (not even another
instruction).

Long debate on this on IRC comes to the conclusion the answer should be "nothing special".

That is, a noalias volatile store does not affect a memory location
just by being volatile. Note: DSE and GVN and memdep currently
believe this, because memdep just goes behind AA's back after it says
"modref" right now.

see line 635 of memdep. Prior to this patch we would get modref there, then check aliasing,
and if it said noalias, we would continue.

getModRefInfo *already* has this same AA check, it just wasn't being used because volatile was
lumped in with ordering.

(I am separately testing whether this code in memdep is now dead except for the invariant load case)

Evgeniy Stepanov 6c3a8cbc4d [asan] Fix dead stripping of globals on Linux.
Use a combination of !associated, comdat, @llvm.compiler.used and
custom sections to allow dead stripping of globals and their asan
metadata. Sometimes.

Currently this works on LLD, which supports SHF_LINK_ORDER with
sh_link pointing to the associated section.

This also works on BFD, which seems to treat comdats as
all-or-nothing with respect to linker GC. There is a weird quirk
where the "first" global in each link is never GC-ed because of the
section symbols.

At this moment it does not work on Gold (as in the globals are never
stripped).

This is a re-land of r298158 rebased on D31358. This time,
asan.module_ctor is put in a comdat as well to avoid quadratic
behavior in Gold.

When possible, put ASan ctor/dtor in comdat.

The only reason not to is global registration, which can be
TU-specific. This is not the case when there are no instrumented
globals. This is also limited to ELF targets, because MachO does
not have comdat, and COFF linkers may GC comdat constructors.

The benefit of this is a lot less __asan_init() calls: one per DSO
instead of one per TU. It's also necessary for the upcoming
gc-sections-for-globals change on Linux, where multiple references to
section start symbols trigger quadratic behaviour in gold linker.

This is a rebase of r298756.

This test case depends on the loop being vectorized without forcing the

checking the resulting IR, we should just check the instruction costs. The
costs will be computed regardless if vectorization is profitable.

Sanjay Patel b2f1621bb1 [DAGCombiner] add and use TLI hook to convert and-of-seteq / or-of-setne to bitwise logic+setcc (PR32401)
This is a generic combine enabled via target hook to reduce icmp logic as discussed in:
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32401

It's likely that other targets will want to enable this hook for scalar transforms,
and there are probably other patterns that can use bitwise logic to reduce comparisons.

Note that we are missing an IR canonicalization for these patterns, and we will probably
prefer the pair-of-compares form in IR (shorter, more likely to fold).

When DAGCombiner visits a SIGN_EXTEND_INREG of a BUILD_VECTOR with

Llvm-stress found a case where the new BUILD_VECTOR had constant operands

Alex Bradbury 866113c2ea Add MCContext argument to MCAsmBackend::applyFixup for error reporting
A number of backends (AArch64, MIPS, ARM) have been using
MCContext::reportError to report issues such as out-of-range fixup values in
their TgtAsmBackend. This is great, but because MCContext couldn't easily be
threaded through to the adjustFixupValue helper function from its usual
callsite (applyFixup), these backends ended up adding an MCContext* argument
and adding another call to applyFixup to processFixupValue. Adding an
MCContext parameter to applyFixup makes this unnecessary, and even better -
applyFixup can take a reference to MCContext rather than a potentially null
pointer.

Ahmed Bougacha ec8b1fb539 [X86] Relax assert in broadcast-of-subvector lowering.
Before r294774, there was a problem when lowering broadcasts to use
128-bit subvectors.

When we looked through a bitcast to find the broadcast input, we'd keep
using the original type, so you'd end up with things like:
  (v8f32 (broadcast
    (v4f32 (extract_subvector
      (v8i32 V),
      ...))
    ))

r294774 fixed it to always emit subvectors with the scalar type of the
original source.

It also introduced some asserts, to check that we use scalars with
the same size, and vectors with the same number of elements.

The scalar size equality is checked earlier when looking through bitcasts,
and is a useful assert.

However, the number of elements don't have to be identical: we're always
going to extract a 128-bit subvector, and we can have different size
inputs if we looked through a concat_vector to find a 256-bit source.

Relax the overzealous assert.

Replace it with a check of the original source vector being 256 or 512
bits. If it's 128 bits, we can't extract_subvector from it.

Also adds support for G_SEXT and G_ZEXT to support these cases.

One particular aspect of this that I should draw attention to is that I've
tried to be overly conservative in determining the safety of matches that
involve non-adjacent instructions and multiple basic blocks. This is intended
to be used as a cheap initial check and we may add a more expensive check in
the future. The current rules are:
* Reject if any instruction may load/store (we'd need to check for intervening
  memory operations.
* Reject if any instruction has implicit operands.
* Reject if any instruction has unmodelled side-effects.
See isObviouslySafeToFold().

It can be costly to transfer from the gprs to the xmm registers and can prevent loads merging.

This patch splits vXi16/vXi32/vXi64 BUILD_VECTORS that use the same operand in multiple elements into a BUILD_VECTOR with only a single insertion of each of those elements and then performs an unary shuffle to duplicate the values.

There are a couple of minor regressions this patch unearths due to some missing MOVDDUP/BROADCAST folds that I will address in a future patch.

Note: Now that vector shuffle lowering and combining is pretty good we should be reusing that instead of duplicating so much in LowerBUILD_VECTOR - this is the first of several patches to address this.

Amjad Aboud 0389f62879 x86 interrupt calling convention: re-align stack pointer on 64-bit if an error code was pushed
The x86_64 ABI requires that the stack is 16 byte aligned on function calls. Thus, the 8-byte error code, which is pushed by the CPU for certain exceptions, leads to a misaligned stack. This results in bugs such as Bug 26413, where misaligned movaps instructions are generated.

This commit fixes the misalignment by adjusting the stack pointer in these cases. The adjustment is done at the beginning of the prologue generation by subtracting another 8 bytes from the stack pointer. These additional bytes are popped again in the function epilogue.

Disable bypassing if one of the operands looks like a hash value. Slow
division often occurs in hashtable implementations and fast division is
never taken there because a hash value is extremely unlikely to have
enough upper bits set to zero.

A value is considered to be hash-like if it is produced by

1) XOR operation
2) Multiplication by a constant wider than the shorter type
3) PHI node with all incoming values being hash-like

REG_SEQUENCE falls into the same category as COPY for operands mapping:
- They don't have MCInstrDesc with register constraints
- The input variable could use whatever register classes
- It is possible to have register class already assigned to the operands

In particular, given REG_SEQUENCE are always target specific because of
the subreg indices. Those indices must apply to the register class of
the definition of the REG_SEQUENCE and therefore, the target must set a
register class to that definition. As a result, the generic code can
always use that register class to derive a valid mapping for a
REG_SEQUENCE.

Joerg Sonnenberger 28bed106e0 Do not translate rint into nearbyint, but truncate it like nearbyint.
A common way to implement nearbyint is by fiddling with the floating

libm and musl. As such, canonicalizing the latter to the former will
create infinite loops for libm and generally pessimize performance, at
least when the generic C versions are used.

This change preserves the rint in the libcall translation and also
handles the domain truncation logic, so that rint with float argument
will be reduced to rintf etc.

Petar Jovanovic 9bff3b7818 [mips][msa] Prevent output operand from commuting for dpadd_[su].df ins
Implementation of TargetInstrInfo::findCommutedOpIndices for MIPS target,
restricting commutativity to second and third operand only for
dpaadd_[su].df instructions therein.

Prior to this change, there were cases where the vector that is to be added
to the dot product of the other two could take a position other than the
first one in the instruction, generating false output in the destination
vector.

Such behavior has been noticed in the two functions generating v2i64 output
values so far. Other ones may exhibit such behavior as well, just not for
the vector operands which are present in the test at the moment.

Tests altered so that the function's first operand is a constant splat so
that it can be loaded with a ldi instruction, since that is the case in
which the erroneous instruction operand placement has occurred. We check
that the register which is present in the ldi instruction is placed as the
first operand in the corresponding dpadd instruction.

Currently ComputeNumSignBits returns the minimum number of sign bits for all elements of vector data, when we may only be interested in one/some of the elements.

Max Kazantsev 2e44d2969a [ScalarEvolution] Re-enable Predicate implication from operations
The patch rL298481 was reverted due to crash on clang-with-lto-ubuntu build.
The reason of the crash was type mismatch between either a or b and RHS in the following situation:

  LHS = sext(a +nsw b) > RHS.

This is quite rare, but still possible situation. Normally we need to cast all {a, b, RHS} to their widest type.
But we try to avoid creation of new SCEV that are not constants to avoid initiating recursive analysis that
can take a lot of time and/or cache a bad value for iterations number. To deal with this, in this patch we
reject this case and will not try to analyze it if the type of sum doesn't match with the type of RHS. In this
situation we don't need to create any non-constant SCEVs.

This patch also adds an assertion to the method IsProvedViaContext so that we could fail on it and not
go further into range analysis etc (because in some situations these analyzes succeed even when the passed
arguments have wrong types, what should not normally happen).

The patch also contains a fix for a problem with too narrow scope of the analysis caused by wrong
usage of predicates in recursive invocations.

The regression test on the said failure: test/Analysis/ScalarEvolution/implied-via-addition.ll

Ahmed Bougacha 6dd6082472 [CodeGen] Pass SDAG an ORE, and replace FastISel stats with remarks.
In the long-term, we want to replace statistics with something
finer-grained that lets us gather per-function data.
Remarks are that replacement.

Create an ORE instance in SelectionDAGISel, and pass it to
SelectionDAG.

SelectionDAG was used so that we can emit remarks from all
SelectionDAG-related code, including TargetLowering and DAGCombiner.
This isn't used in the current patch but Adam tells me he's interested
for the fp-contract combines.

Use the ORE instance to emit FastISel failures as remarks (instead of
the mix of dbgs() dumps and statistics that we currently have).

Eventually, we want to have an API that tells us whether remarks are
enabled (http://llvm.org/PR32352) so that we don't emit expensive
remarks (in this case, dumping IR) when it's not needed. For now, use
'isEnabled' as a crude replacement.

This does mean that the replacement for '-fast-isel-verbose' is now
'-pass-remarks-missed=isel'. Additionally, clang users also need to
enable remark diagnostics, using '-Rpass-missed=isel'.

This also removes '-fast-isel-verbose2': there are no static statistics
that we want to only enable in asserts builds, so we can always use
the remarks regardless of the build type.

Matthew Simpson c8f0aeccda [InstCombine] Correct the check for vector GEPs
Some of the GEP combines (e.g., descaling) can't handle vector GEPs. We have an
existing check that attempts to bail out if given a vector GEP. However, the
check only tests the GEP's pointer operand. A GEP results in a vector of
pointers if at least one of its operands is vector-typed (e.g., its pointer
operand could be a scalar, but its index could be a vector). We should just
check the type of the GEP itself. This should fix PR32414.

Summary:
It is problematic for this reader that it expects to read data from
several threads, but the header or message format does not define
framing. Since the buffers are reused, we can't rely on skipping
zeroed out data as a synchronization method either.

There is an argument that this is not version compatible with the format
the reader expected previously. I argue that since the writer wrote garbage
past the end of buffer record, there is no currently working reader to
compromise.

The corresponding writer change is posted to D31384.

Craig Topper 058f2f6d72 [AVX-512] Fix accidental uses of AH/BH/CH/DH after copies to/from mask registers
We've had several bugs(PR32256, PR32241) recently that resulted from usages of AH/BH/CH/DH either before or after a copy to/from a mask register.

This ultimately occurs because we create COPY_TO_REGCLASS with VK1 and GR8. Then in CopyToFromAsymmetricReg in X86InstrInfo we find a 32-bit super register for the GR8 to emit the KMOV with. But as these tests are demonstrating, its possible for the GR8 register to be a high register and we end up doing an accidental extra or insert from bits 15:8.

I think the best way forward is to stop making copies directly between mask registers and GR8/GR16. Instead I think we should restrict to only copies between mask registers and GR32/GR64 and use EXTRACT_SUBREG/INSERT_SUBREG to handle the conversion from GR32 to GR16/8 or vice versa.

Unfortunately, this complicates fastisel a bit more now to create the subreg extracts where we used to create GR8 copies. We can probably make a helper function to bring down the repitition.

This does result in KMOVD being used for copies when BWI is available because we don't know the original mask register size. This caused a lot of deltas on tests because we have to split the checks for KMOVD vs KMOVW based on BWI.

The switch-to-lookup-table conversion results in code that is more
difficult to analyze and optimize by other passes. Most importantly,

only apply this transformation very late. A common example is inlining,
which can often result in range restrictions for the switch expression.

Chandler Carruth 0d256c0f5d [IR] Make SwitchInst::CaseIt almost a normal iterator.
This moves it to the iterator facade utilities giving it full random
access semantics, etc. It can also now be used with standard algorithms
like std::all_of and std::any_of and range adaptors like llvm::reverse.

Also make the semantics of iterating match what every other iterator
uses and forbid decrementing past the begin iterator. This was used as
a hacky way to work around iterator invalidation. However, every
instance trying to do this failed to actually avoid touching invalid
iterators despite the clear documentation that the removed and all
subsequent iterators become invalid including the end iterator. So I've
added a return of the next iterator to removeCase and rewritten the
loops that were doing this to correctly follow the iterator pattern of
either incremneting or removing and assigning fresh values to the
iterator and the end.

In one case we were trying to go backwards to make this cleaner but it
doesn't actually work. I've made that code match the code we use
everywhere else to remove cases as we iterate. This changes the order of
cases in one test output and I moved that test to CHECK-DAG so it
wouldn't care -- the order isn't semantically meaningful anyways.

Ivan Krasin c2124e185c Revert r298620: [LV] Vectorize GEPs
Reason: breaks linking Chromium with LLD + ThinLTO (a pass crashes)
LLVM bug: https://bugs.llvm.org//show_bug.cgi?id=32413

Original change description:

[LV] Vectorize GEPs

This patch adds support for vectorizing GEPs. Previously, we only generated
vector GEPs on-demand when creating gather or scatter operations. All GEPs from
the original loop were scalarized by default, and if a pointer was to be stored
to memory, we would have to build up the pointer vector with insertelement
instructions.

With this patch, we will vectorize all GEPs that haven't already been marked
for scalarization.

The patch refines collectLoopScalars to more exactly identify the scalar GEPs.
The function now more closely resembles collectLoopUniforms. And the patch
moves vector GEP creation out of vectorizeMemoryInstruction and into the main
vectorization loop. The vector GEPs needed for gather and scatter operations
will have already been generated before vectoring the memory accesses.

Max Kazantsev 89554446e7 [ScalarEvolution] Re-enable Predicate implication from operations
The patch rL298481 was reverted due to crash on clang-with-lto-ubuntu build.
The reason of the crash was type mismatch between either a or b and RHS in the following situation:

  LHS = sext(a +nsw b) > RHS.

Reid Kleckner a5d187b0ff [PDB] Use two DBs when dumping the IPI stream
Summary:
When dumping these records from an object file section, we should use
only one type database. However, when dumping from a PDB, we should use
two: one for the type stream and one for the IPI stream.

Certain type records that normally live in the .debug$T object file
section get moved over to the IPI stream of the PDB file and they get
new indices.

So far, I've noticed that the MSVC linker always moves these records
into IPI:
- LF_FUNC_ID
- LF_MFUNC_ID
- LF_STRING_ID
- LF_SUBSTR_LIST
- LF_BUILDINFO
- LF_UDT_MOD_SRC_LINE

These records have index fields that can point into TPI or IPI. In
particular, LF_SUBSTR_LIST and LF_BUILDINFO point to LF_STRING_ID
records to describe compilation command lines.

I've modified the dumper to have an optional pointer to the item DB, and
to do type name lookup of these fields in that DB. See printItemIndex.
The result is that our pdbdump-headers.test is more faithful to the PDB
contents and the output is less confusing.

Teresa Johnson 0c6a4ff8dc [ThinLTO] Add support for emitting minimized bitcode for thin link
Summary:
The cumulative size of the bitcode files for a very large application
can be huge, particularly with -g. In a distributed build environment,
all of these files must be sent to the remote build node that performs
the thin link step, and this can exceed size limits.

The thin link actually only needs the summary along with a bitcode
symbol table. Until we have a proper bitcode symbol table, simply
stripping the debug metadata results in significant size reduction.

Add support for an option to additionally emit minimized bitcode
modules, just for use in the thin link step, which for now just strips
all debug metadata. I plan to add a cc1 option so this can be invoked
easily during the compile step.

However, care must be taken to ensure that these minimized thin link
bitcode files produce the same index as with the original bitcode files,
as these original bitcode files will be used in the backends.

Specifically:
1) The module hash used for caching is typically produced by hashing the
written bitcode, and we want to include the hash that would correspond
to the original bitcode file. This is because we want to ensure that
changes in the stripped portions affect caching. Added plumbing to emit
the same module hash in the minimized thin link bitcode file.
2) The module paths in the index are constructed from the module ID of
each thin linked bitcode, and typically is automatically generated from
the input file path. This is the path used for finding the modules to
import from, and obviously we need this to point to the original bitcode
files. Added gold-plugin support to take a suffix replacement during the
thin link that is used to override the identifier on the MemoryBufferRef
constructed from the loaded thin link bitcode file. The assumption is
that the build system can specify that the minimized bitcode file has a
name that is similar but uses a different suffix (e.g. out.thinlink.bc
instead of out.o).

Added various tests to ensure that we get identical index files out of
the thin link step.

Anna Thomas e27b39a976 [LVI] Add an LVI printer pass to capture test LVI cache after transformations
Summary:
Adding a printer pass for printing the LVI cache values after transformations
that use LVI.
This will help us in identifying cases where LVI
invariants are violated, or transforms that leave LVI in an incorrect state.
Right now, I have added two test cases to show that the printer pass is working.
I will be adding more test cases in a later change, once this change is
checked in upstream.

Summary:

SROA was dropping the nonnull metadata on loads from allocas that got optimized out. This patch simply preserves nonnull metadata on loads through SROA and mem2reg.

Max Kazantsev 15e76aa0f8 [ScalarEvolution] Predicate implication from operations
This patch allows SCEV predicate analysis to prove implication of some expression predicates
from context predicates related to arguments of those expressions.
It introduces three new rules:

For addition:
  (A >X && B >= 0) || (B >= 0 && A > X) ===> (A + B) > X.

For division:
  (A > X) && (0 < B <= X + 1) ===> (A / B > 0).
  (A > X) && (-B <= X < 0) ===> (A / B >= 0).

Using these rules, SCEV is able to prove facts like "if X > 1 then X / 2 > 0".
They can also be combined with the same context, to prove more complex expressions like
"if X > 1 then X/2 + 1 > 1".
