Tom Stellard bc39d7bdd4 libclang.so: Make SONAME the same as LLVM version
This partially reverts c7b3a91017. Having
libclang.so with a different SONAME than the other LLVM libraries was
causing a lot of confusion for users. Also, this change did not really
acheive it's purpose of allowing apps to use newer versions of
libclang.so without rebuilding, because a new version of libclang.so
requires a new version of libLLVM.so, which does not have a stable ABI.

https://lab.llvm.org/buildbot/#/builders/46/builds/21146 Still have

up my patch.

This reverts commit 4a678f8072.

John Ericson 4a678f8072 [cmake] Use `GNUInstallDirs` to support custom installation dirs.
This is the original patch in my GNUInstallDirs series, now last to merge as the final piece!

It arose as a new draft of D28234. I initially did the unorthodox thing of pushing to that when I wasn't the original author, but since I ended up

 - Using `GNUInstallDirs`, rather than mimicking it, as the original author was hesitant to do but others requested.

 - Converting all the packages, not just LLVM, effecting many more projects than LLVM itself.

I figured it was time to make a new revision.

I have used this patch series (and many back-ports) as the basis of https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/111487 for my distro (NixOS), which was merged last spring (2021). It looked like people were generally on board in D28234, but I make note of this here in case extra motivation is useful.

---

As pointed out in the original issue, a central tension is that LLVM already has some partial support for these sorts of things. Variables like `COMPILER_RT_INSTALL_PATH` have already been dealt with. Variables like `LLVM_LIBDIR_SUFFIX` however, will require further work, so that we may use `CMAKE_INSTALL_LIBDIR`.

These remaining items will be addressed in further patches. What is here is now rote and so we should get it out of the way before dealing more intricately with the remainder.

Rainer Orth a382a74627 [clang] Fix libclang linking on Solaris
Linking `libclang.so` is currently broken on Solaris:

ld: fatal: option --version-script requires option -z gnu-version-script-compat to be specified

While Solaris `ld` supports a considerable subset of `--version-script`,
there are some elements of the syntax that aren't.

The fix is equivalent to D78510 <https://reviews.llvm.org/D78510>.

Additionally, use of C-style comments is a GNU extension
that can easily be avoided by using `#` as comment character, which is
supported by GNU `ld`, `gold`, and `lld`.

Tested on `amd64-pc-solaris2.11`, `sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11`,
`x86_64-pc-linux-gnu`.

Nico Weber e9b4113902 Add a flag that controls if clang-tidy and clang-include-fixer are built into libclang.
Based on the discussion on D55415, also make the flag default to false.
Having libclang depend on clang-tools-extra means check-clang builds all
of clang-tools-extra, which besides being a layering violation takes
quite some time, since clang-tools-extra has many files that are slow
to compile.

Longer term, we likely will want to remove this flag completely. If
people need this functionality, maybe there could be a
libclang-tools-extra that's libclang + clang-tidy and
clang-includes-fixer linked in.

Nico Weber 06487b010d libclang depends on ClangDriverOptions since r352803
Without this, the build would sometimes fail with

    In file included from clang/tools/libclang/CIndexer.cpp:17:

if Options.inc wasn't generated before libclang was built
by coincidence.

(In the GN build, this works because lib/Driver there declares
the dep on tablegen as a public_dep since the generated file
is part of Driver's public interface, and then things work out
automatically without every client of Driver having to be careful.)

David Tenty a8d13df412 Build with _XOPEN_SOURCE defined on AIX
Summary:
It is useful to build with _XOPEN_SOURCE defined on AIX, enabling X/Open
and POSIX compatibility mode, to work around stray macros and other
bugs in the headers provided by the system and build compiler.

This patch adds the config to cmake to build with _XOPEN_SOURCE defined
on AIX with a few exceptions. Google Test internals require access to
platform specific thread info constructs on AIX so in that case we build
with _ALL_SOURCE defined instead. Libclang also uses header which needs
_ALL_SOURCE on AIX so we leave that as is as well.

We also add building on AIX with the large file API and doing CMake
header checks with X/OPEN definitions so the results are consistent with
the environment that will be present in the build.

The current install-clang-headers target installs clang's resource

corresponding target to clang, and the natural name for that new target
would be install-clang-headers. Rename the existing target to

for the new target, following the discussion on cfe-dev [1].

I didn't find any bots on zorg referencing install-clang-headers. I'll
send out another PSA to cfe-dev to accompany this rename.

Nico Weber e9cac31dac Attempt to fix build on Windows with LLVM_ENABLE_PIC=OFF
libclang can be built in shared or static mode. On Windows, with
LLVM_ENABLE_PIC=OFF, it was built in neither mode, leading to clients of
libclang (c-index-test, c-arcmt-test) failing to link with it set.

Since PIC isn't really a thing on Windows, build libclang in shared mode when
LLVM_ENABLE_PIC=OFF there. This is also somewhat symmetric with the existing
ENABLE_STATIC a few lines down.

Frontend headers have undefined reference on the symbol `clang::PCHContainerOperations::PCHContainerOperations()` through some shared_ptr usage. Any dependents will get the undefined reference which can only be resolved by explicit dependency on clangSerialization (due to -z defs).

Fangrui Song 5313327f61 Add explicit dependency on clangSerialization for a bunch of components to fix -DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS=on build
This is a more thorough fix of rC348911.
The story about -DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS=on build after rC348907 (Move PCHContainerOperations from Frontend to Serialization) is:

1. libclangSerialization.so defines PCHContainerReader dtor, ...
2. clangFrontend and clangTooling define classes inheriting from PCHContainerReader, thus their DSOs have undefined references on PCHContainerReader dtor
3. Components depending on either clangFrontend or clangTooling cannot be linked unless they have explicit dependency on clangSerialization due to the default linker option -z defs. The explicit dependency could be avoided if libclang{Frontend,Tooling}.so had these undefined references.

This patch adds the explicit dependency on clangSerialization to make them build.
