peter klausler f05c95f10f [flang] More work on SYSTEM_CLOCK runtime API and implementation
To get proper wrap-around behavior for the various kind parameter
values of the optional COUNT= and COUNT_MAX= dummy arguments to
the intrinsic subroutine SYSTEM_CLOCK, add an extra argument to
the APIs for lowering to pass the integer kind of the actual argument.
Avoid confusion by requiring that both actual arguments have the same
kind when both are present. The results of the runtime functions
remain std::int64_t and lowering should still convert them before
storing to the actual argument variables.

Rework the implementation a bit to accomodate the dynamic
specification of the kind parameter, and to clean up some coding
issues with preprocessing and templates.

Use the kind of the COUNT=/COUNT_MAX= actual arguments to determine
the clock's resolution, where possible, in conformance with other
Fortran implementations.

Jean Perier 05b4e49a17 [flang] Signal EOR in non advancing IO and move to next record
When an end of record is met in non advancing IO:
- Set IOSTAT if present according to 12.11.4 (5).
- Position the file to the next record (12.11.4 (4)).

The previous code was only signaling EOR for fixed record length IO.
Reading at 12.11.4, I do not find the rational for this condition, so I
removed it.
It also does not seem the presence of padding should prevent
the EOR signaling.

The positionning to the next record was block when EOR is signaling
in FinishReadingRecord because ErrorHandler.isError() is true in this
case.
EOR in input is not an error, but I am not confident to modify
ErrorHandler.isError() to cover that. However, In FinishReadingRecord,
the code should not bail if the error is simply an end of record.

I did not check the SIZE requirements here because GetSize runtime is
not yet implemented.

V Donaldson 29c3ef5a0e Remove blank from NaN string representation
Flang front end function DumpHexadecimal generates a string
representation of a REAL value. When the value is a NaN, the string
contains a blank, as in "NaN 0x7fc00000". This function is used by
lowering to generate a string that is then passed to llvm Support
function convertFromStringSpecials, which does not expect a blank
in the string. Remove the blank to allow correct recognition of a
NaN by this llvm function.

Note that function DumpHexadecimal is not exercised by the front end
itself. This functionality is only exercised by code that is not yet
present in llvm.

The Windows version fallbacks to the "no date and time information

The implementation uses an ifdef between windows and the rest because
from my tests, the SFINAE approach leads to undeclared name bogus errors
with clang 8 that seems to ignore failure to instantiate is not an error
for the function names (i.e., it understands it should not instantiate
the version using gettimeofday if it is not there, but still yields an
error that it is not declared on the spot where it is called in the

Diana Picus 0104cc85b1 [flang] Add default implementation for SYSTEM_CLOCK
Add an implementation for the runtime functions related to SYSTEM_CLOCK.
As with CPU_TIME, this is based on std::clock(), which should be
available everywhere, but it is highly recommended to add
platform-specific implementations for systems where std::clock() behaves
poorly (e.g. POSIX).

The documentation for std::clock() doesn't specify a maximum value and
in fact wrap around behaviour is non-conforming. Therefore, this
implementation of SYSTEM_CLOCK is not guaranteed to wrap around either,
and after std::clock reaches its maximum value we will likely just
return failure rather than wrap around. If this happens often on your
system, please add a new platform-specific implementation.

We define COUNT_MAX as either the maximum value that can be stored in
a std::clock_t or in a 64-bit integer (whichever is smaller), and
COUNT_RATE as CLOCKS_PER_SEC. For POSIX systems, the value of
CLOCKS_PER_SEC is hardcoded to 10^6 and irrelevant for the values
returned by std::clock.

Andrzej Warzynski 7b73ca3043 [flang][driver] Delete `f18` (i.e. the old Flang driver)
This patch removes `f18`, a.k.a. the old driver. It is being replaced
with the new driver, `flang-new`, which has reached feature parity with
`f18` a while ago. This was discussed in [1] and also in [2].

With this change, `FLANG_BUILD_NEW_DRIVER` is no longer needed and is
also deleted. This means that we are making the dependency on Clang permanent
(i.e. it cannot be disabled with a CMake flag).

LIT set-up is updated accordingly. All references to `f18` or `f18.cpp`
are either updated or removed.

The `F18_FC` variable from the `flang` bash script is replaced with

Add a new Parsing::EmitPreprocessedSource() routine to convert the
cooked character stream output of the prescanner back to something
more closely resembling output from a traditional preprocessor;
call this new routine when -E appears.

The new -E output is suitable for use as fixed form Fortran source to
compilation by (one hopes) any Fortran compiler. If the original
top-level source file had been free form source, the output will be
suitable for use as free form source as well; otherwise there may be
diagnostics about missing spaces if they were indeed absent in the
original fixed form source.

Unless the -P option appears, #line directives are interspersed
with the output (but be advised, f18 will ignore these if presented
with them in a later compilation).

An effort has been made to preserve original alphabetic character case
and source indentation.

Add -P and -fno-reformat to the new drivers.

Tweak test options to avoid confusion with prior -E output; use

peter klausler 4d42e16eb8 [flang] runtime: fix problems with I/O around EOF & delimited characters
When a WRITE overwrites an endfile record, we need to forget
that there was an endfile record. When doing a BACKSPACE
after an explicit ENDFILE statement, the position afterwards
must be upon the endfile record.

Attempts to join list-directed delimited character input across
record boundaries was due to a bad reading of the standard
and has been deleted, now that the requirements are better understood.
This problem would cause a read attempt past EOF if a delimited
character input value was at the end of a record.

It turns out that delimited list-directed (and NAMELIST) character
output is required to emit contiguous doubled instances of the
delimiter character when it appears in the output value. When
fixed-size records are being emitted, as is the case with internal
output, this is not possible when the problematic character falls
on the last position of a record. No two other Fortran compilers
do the same thing in this situation so there is no good precedent
to follow.

Because it seems least wrong, with this patch we now emit one copy
of the delimiter as the last character of the current record and
another as the first character of the next record. (The
second-least-wrong alternative might be to flag a runtime error,
but that seems harsh since it's not an explicit error in the standard,
and the output may not have to be usable later as input anyway.)
Consequently, the output is not suitable for use as list-directed or
NAMELIST input.

If a later standard were to clarify this case, this behavior will of
course change as needed to conform.

Diana Picus aaab70407b [flang] Fix handling of elem_len in CFI_establish
The current code computes the minimum element length based on the `type`
used to create the descriptor and uses that as the element length
whenever it is greater than 0. This means that the `elem_len` parameter
is essentially ignored for any type where we can compute a minimum
element length (which includes `CFI_type_char[16|32]_t`), and we may
therefore end up with descriptors with a lower element length than
expected.

This patch fixes the issue by explicitly doing what the standard says,
i.e. it uses the given `elem_len` for character types, `CFI_type_struct`
and `CFI_type_other`, and ignores it (falls back to the minimum element
length) for everything else.

Faris Rehman 443d6957ca [flang][driver] Add support for fixed form detection
Currently the new flang driver always runs in free form mode. This patch
adds support for fixed form mode detection based on the file extensions.

Like `f18`, `flang-new` will treat files ending with ".f", ".F" and
".ff" as fixed form. Additionally, ".for", ".FOR", ".fpp" and ".FPP"
file extensions are recognised as fixed form files. This is consistent
with gfortran [1]. In summary, files with the following extensions are
treated as fixed-form:
  * ".f", ".F", ".ff", ".for", ".FOR", ".fpp", ".FPP"

For consistency with flang/test/lit.cfg.py and f18, this patch also adds
support for the following file extensions:
  * ".ff", ".FOR", ".for", ".ff90", ".fpp", ".FPP"
This is added in flang/lib/Frontend/FrontendOptions.cpp. Additionally,
the following extensions are included:
  * ".f03", ".F03", ".f08", ".F08"
This is for compatibility with gfortran [1] and other popular Fortran
compilers [2].

NOTE: internally Flang will only differentiate between fixed and free
form files. Currently Flang does not support switching between language
standards, so in this regard file extensions are irrelevant. More
specifically, both `file.f03` and `file.f18` are represented with
`Language::Fortran` (as opposed to e.g. `Language::Fortran03`).

Summary of changes:
- Set Fortran::parser::Options::sFixedForm according to the file type
- Add isFixedFormSuffix and isFreeFormSuffix helper functions to
  FrontendTool/Utils.h
- Change FrontendOptions::GetInputKindForExtension to support the missing
  file extensions that f18 supports and some additional ones
- FrontendActionTest.cpp is updated to make sure that the test input is
  treated as free-form

Andrzej Warzynski 7d246cb19d [flang][driver] Add support for `-fsyntax-only`
The behaviour triggered with this flag is consistent with `-fparse-only`
in `flang` (i.e. the throwaway driver). This new spelling is consistent
with Clang and gfortran, and was proposed and agreed on for the new
driver in [1].

This patch also adds some minimal logic to communicate whether the
semantic checks have failed or not. When semantic checks fail, a
frontend driver error is generated. The return code from the frontend
driver is then determined by checking the driver diagnostics - the
presence of driver errors means that the compilation has failed. This
logic is consistent with `clang -cc1`.

Caroline Concatto d28de0d7f2 [Flang][Driver] Add PrintPreprocessedInput FrontendAction (`flang-new -E`)
This patch implements the first frontend action for the Flang parser (i.e.
Fortran::parser). This action runs the preprocessor and is invoked with the
`-E` flag. (i.e. `flang-new -E <input-file>). The generated output is printed
to either stdout or the output file (specified with `-` or `-o <output-file>`).

Note that currently there is no mechanism to map options for the
frontend driver (i.e. Fortran::frontend::FrontendOptions) to options for
the parser (i.e. Fortran::parser::Options). Instead,
Frotran::parser::options are hard-coded to:

```
std::vector<std::string> searchDirectories{"."s};
searchDirectories = searchDirectories;
isFixedForm = false;
_encoding(Fortran::parser::Encoding::UTF_8);
```

These default settings are compatible with the current Flang driver. Further
work is required in order for CompilerInvocation to read and map
clang::driver::options to Fortran::parser::options.

Caroline Concatto 4c5906cffd [Flang][Driver] Add infrastructure for basic frontend actions and file I/O
This patch introduces the dependencies required to read and manage input files
provided by the command line option. It also adds the infrastructure to create
and write to output files. The output is sent to either stdout or a file
(specified with the `-o` flag).

Separately, in order to be able to test the code for file I/O, it adds
infrastructure to create frontend actions. As a basic testable example, it adds
the `InputOutputTest` FrontendAction. The sole purpose of this action is to
read a file from the command line and print it either to stdout or the output
file. This action is run by using the `-test-io` flag also introduced in this
patch (available for `flang-new` and `flang-new -fc1`). With this patch:
```
flang-new -test-io input-file.f90
```
will read input-file.f90 and print it in the output file.

The `InputOutputTest` frontend action has been introduced primarily to
facilitate testing. It is hidden from users (i.e. it's only displayed with
`--help-hidden`). Currently Clang doesn’t have an equivalent action.

`-test-io` is used to trigger the InputOutputTest action in the Flang frontend
driver. This patch makes sure that “flang-new” forwards it to “flang-new -fc1"
by creating a preprocessor job. However, in Flang.cpp, `-test-io` is passed to
“flang-new -fc1” without `-E`. This way we make sure that the preprocessor is
_not_ run in the frontend driver. This is the desired behaviour: `-test-io`
should only read the input file and print it to the output stream.

Andrzej Warzynski 8d51d37e06 [flang] Introduce DiagnosticConsumer classes in libflangFrontend
Currently Flang uses TextDiagnostic, TextDiagnosticPrinter &
TestDiagnosticBuffer classes from Clang (more specifically, from
libclangFrontend). This patch introduces simplified equivalents of these
classes in Flang (i.e. it removes the dependency on libclangFrontend).

Flang only needs these diagnostics classes for the compiler driver
diagnostics. This is unlike in Clang in which similar diagnostic classes
are used for e.g. Lexing/Parsing/Sema diagnostics. For this reason, the
implementations introduced here are relatively basic. We can extend them
in the future if this is required.

This patch also enhances how the diagnostics are printed. In particular,
this is the diagnostic that you'd get _before_ the changes introduced here
(no text formatting):

```
$ bin/flang-new
error: no input files
```

This is the diagnostic that you get _after_ the changes introduced here
(in terminals that support it, the text is formatted - bold + red):

```
$ bin/flang-new
flang-new: error: no input files
```

Tests are updated accordingly and options related to enabling/disabling
color diagnostics are flagged as supported by Flang.

Caroline Concatto 257b29715b [flang][driver] Add the new flang compiler and frontend drivers
Summary:

This is the first patch implementing the new Flang driver as outlined in [1],
[2] & [3]. It creates Flang driver (`flang-new`) and Flang frontend driver
(`flang-new -fc1`). These will be renamed as `flang` and `flang -fc1` once the
current Flang throwaway driver, `flang`, can be replaced with `flang-new`.

Currently only 2 options are supported: `-help` and `--version`.

`flang-new` is implemented in terms of libclangDriver, defaulting the driver
mode to `FlangMode` (added to libclangDriver in [4]). This ensures that the
driver runs in Flang mode regardless of the name of the binary inferred from
argv[0].

The design of the new Flang compiler and frontend drivers is inspired by it
counterparts in Clang [3]. Currently, the new Flang compiler and frontend
drivers re-use Clang libraries: clangBasic, clangDriver and clangFrontend.

To identify Flang options, this patch adds FlangOption/FC1Option enums.
Driver::printHelp is updated so that `flang-new` prints only Flang options.
The new Flang driver is disabled by default. To enable it, set
`-DBUILD_FLANG_NEW_DRIVER=ON` when configuring CMake and add clang to
`LLVM_ENABLE_PROJECTS` (e.g. -DLLVM_ENABLE_PROJECTS=“clang;flang;mlir”).

2020-08-15 09:21:47 +00:00
Mehdi Amini 2056393387 Separate the Registration from Loading dialects in the Context
This changes the behavior of constructing MLIRContext to no longer load globally registered dialects on construction. Instead Dialects are only loaded explicitly on demand:
- the Parser is lazily loading Dialects in the context as it encounters them during parsing. This is the only purpose for registering dialects and not load them in the context.
- Passes are expected to declare the dialects they will create entity from (Operations, Attributes, or Types), and the PassManager is loading Dialects into the Context when starting a pipeline.

This changes simplifies the configuration of the registration: a compiler only need to load the dialect for the IR it will emit, and the optimizer is self-contained and load the required Dialects. For example in the Toy tutorial, the compiler only needs to load the Toy dialect in the Context, all the others (linalg, affine, std, LLVM, ...) are automatically loaded depending on the optimization pipeline enabled.

Summary:
This patch implements lowering of OpenMP barrier construct from
pft to OpenMPDialect.

Patch is carved out of following merged PR's from fir-dev branch
of https://github.com/flang-compiler/f18-llvm-project/

PR's:
https://github.com/flang-compiler/f18-llvm-project/pull/248
https://github.com/flang-compiler/f18-llvm-project/pull/251

Unfortunately primary tool `bbc` for functional validation is not
yet upstreamed. So this patch includes a unittest for lowering
`!OMP barrier` construct.

Some part of the these PR's still remains downstream(functional test
and dialect registration to legalizer) for obvious reasons.
Will upstream them when the dependencies are upstreamed.
