Saleem Abdulrasool 5a36558c5b ExpressionParser: only force link MCJIT when needed
This was added to support FreeBSD.  The inclusion of this header increases the
size of `lldb-server` due to MCJIT being forcefully preserved.  Conditionalise
the inclusion to shared builds of LLVM which will allow for MCJIT to be stripped
if unnecessary when performing static linking of tools.  This shaves off ~28% of
the binary size for lldb-server when linked with gold using
`-ffunction-sections` and `-fdata-sections`.

Raphael Isemann 1756630dfa C.128 override, virtual keyword handling
Summary:
According to [C128] "Virtual functions should specify exactly one
of `virtual`, `override`, or `final`", I've added override where a
virtual function is overriden but the explicit `override` keyword
was missing. Whenever both `virtual` and `override` were specified,
I removed `virtual`. As C.128 puts it:

> [...] writing more than one of these three is both redundant and
> a potential source of errors.

I anticipate a discussion about whether or not to add `override` to
destructors but I went for it because of an example in [ISOCPP1000].
Let me repeat the comment for you here:

Consider this code:

```
    struct Base {
      virtual ~Base(){}
    };

    struct SubClass : Base {
      ~SubClass() {
        std::cout << "It works!\n";
      }
    };

    int main() {
      std::unique_ptr<Base> ptr = std::make_unique<SubClass>();
    }
```

If for some odd reason somebody removes the `virtual` keyword from the
`Base` struct, the code will no longer print `It works!`. So adding
`override` to destructors actively protects us from accidentally
breaking our code at runtime.

Saleem Abdulrasool c7c3cf685d Initialization: remove ObjectContainer from Common
This restructures the initialization path to move the ObjectContainer
initialization into the *full* initialization path. This is not needed
for the lldb-server initialization path. This helps strip off ~1MiB
from the binary.

Jonas Devlieghere 2b29b432d2 [ScriptInterpreter] Move ownership into debugger (NFC)
This is part two of the change started in r359330. This patch moves the
ownership of the script interpreter from the command interpreter into
the debugger. I would've preferred to remove the lazy initialization,
however the fact that the scripting language is set after the debugger
is created makes that tricky. So for now this does exactly the same
thing as when it was under the command interpreter. The result is that
this patch is fully NFC.

Jonas Devlieghere 8b3af63b89 [NFC] Remove ASCII lines from comments
A lot of comments in LLDB are surrounded by an ASCII line to delimit the
begging and end of the comment.

Its use is not really consistent across the code base, sometimes the
lines are longer, sometimes they are shorter and sometimes they are
omitted. Furthermore, it looks kind of weird with the 80 column limit,
where the comment actually extends past the line, but not by much.
Furthermore, when /// is used for Doxygen comments, it looks
particularly odd. And when // is used, it incorrectly gives the
impression that it's actually a Doxygen comment.

I assume these lines were added to improve distinguishing between
comments and code. However, given that todays editors and IDEs do a
great job at highlighting comments, I think it's worth to drop this for
the sake of consistency. The alternative is fixing all the
inconsistencies, which would create a lot more churn.

Pavel Labath 26ca5a57bc Remove unneeded #ifdef SWIGs
Summary:
Some of these were present in files which should never be read by swig
(and we also had one in the interface file, which is only read by swig).
They are probably leftovers from the time when we were running swig over
lldb headers directly.

While writing this patch, I noticed that some of the #ifdefs were
guarding public functions that were operating on lldb_private data
types. While it wasn't strictly necessary for this patch, I made these
private, as nobody should really be accessing them. This can potentially
break existing code if it happened to use these methods, though it will
only break at build time -- if someone builds against an old header, he
should still be able to link to a new lldb library, since the functions
are still there.

We could keep these public for backward compatbility, but I would argue
that if anyone was actually using these functions for anything, his code
is already broken.

Jim Ingham b78094abcf Get the run locker before you ask if your thread is valid.
I have occasional crashes coming from SBThread::GetExtendedBacktraceThread.  The 
symptom is that we got true back from HasThreadScope - so we should have a valid
live thread, but then when we go to use the thread, it is not good anymore and we
crash.
I can't spot any obvious cause for this crash, but in looking for same I noticed
that in the current code we check that the thread is valid, THEN we take the stop 
locker.  We really should do that in the other order, and ensure that the process 
will stay stopped before we check our thread is still good.  That's what this patch does.

Jason Molenda 1724a179e7 Rename Target::GetSharedModule to Target::GetOrCreateModule.
Add a flag to control whether the ModulesDidLoad notification is
called when a module is added.  If the notifications are disabled,
the caller must call ModulesDidLoad after adding all the new modules,
but postponing this notification until they're all batched up can
allow for better efficiency than notifying one-by-one.

Change the name of the ModuleList notifier functions that a subclass
can implement to start with 'Notify' to make it clear what they are.
Add a NotifyModulesRemoved.

Add header documentation for the changed/updated methods.

Added defaulted-value 'notify' argument to ModuleList Append,
AppendIfNeeded, and Remove because callers working with a local
ModuleList don't have an obvious idea of what notify means in this
context.  When the ModuleList is a part of the Target class, the
notify behavior matters.

DynamicLoaderDarwin has been updated so that libraries being
added/removed are correctly batched up before notifications are
sent.  Added the TestModuleLoadedNotifys.py test to run on 
Darwin to test this.

Jonas Devlieghere 306809f292 [Reproducers] Capture return values of functions returning by ptr/ref
For some reason I had convinced myself that functions returning by
pointer or reference do not require recording their result. However,
after further considering I don't see how that could work, at least not
with the current implementation. Interestingly enough, the reproducer
instrumentation already (mostly) accounts for this, though the
lldb-instr tool did not.

This patch adds the missing macros and updates the lldb-instr tool.

Pavel Labath 4bc0500635 Make operator==s consistent between c++ and python APIs
Summary:
modify-python-lldb.py had code to insert python equality operators to
some classes. Some of those classes already had c++ equality operators,
and some didn't.

This makes the situation more consistent, by removing all equality
handilng from modify-python-lldb. Instead, I add c++ operators to
classes where they were missing, and expose them in the swig interface
files so that they are available to python too.

The only tricky case was the SBAddress class, which had an operator==
defined as a free function, which is not handled by swig. This function
cannot be removed without breaking ABI, and we cannot add an extra
operator== member, as that would make equality comparisons ambiguous.
For this class, I define a python __eq__ function by hand and have it
delegate to the operator!=, which I have defined as a member function.

This isn't fully NFC, as the semantics of some equality functions in
python changes slightly, but I believe it changes for the better (e.g.,
previously SBBreakpoint.__eq__ would consider two breakpoints with the
same ID as equal, even if they belonged to different targets; now they
are only equal if they belong to the same target).

The python plugin uses wrappers generated by swig. For the symbols to be
available, we'd need to link against liblldb, which is not an option
because the symbols could conflict with the static library we are
testing. Instead we define the symbols ourselves in the unit test.

Michal Gorny ae211ece6a [lldb] [Reproducer] Move SBRegistry registration into declaring files
Move SBRegistry method registrations from SBReproducer.cpp into files
declaring the individual APIs, in order to reduce the memory consumption
during build and improve maintainability.  The current humongous
SBRegistry constructor exhausts all memory on a NetBSD system with 4G
RAM + 4G swap, therefore making it impossible to build LLDB.

Jonas Devlieghere 13ecae2f9a [Reproducers] Support capturing a reproducer without an explicit path.
Tablegen doesn't support options that are both flags and take values as
an argument. I noticed this when doing the tablegen rewrite, but forgot
that that affected the reproducer --capture flag.

This patch makes --capture a flag and adds --capture-path to specify a
path for the reproducer. In reality I expect this to be mostly used for
testing, but it could be useful nonetheless.

Jonas Devlieghere 7bc8356435 [Reproducers] Implement log_append for function pointers.
Changing the type in the DUMMY macro to void* doesn't actually fix the
build error, because the argument type is deducted from the template (as
opposed to when serializing through the instrumentation framework, where
this would matter). Instead I've added a proper instance of log_append
that takes function pointers and logs their address.

Pavel Labath 7f5237bccc Add "operator bool" to SB APIs
Summary:
Our python version of the SB API has (the python equivalent of)
operator bool, but the C++ version doesn't.

This is because our python operators are added by modify-python-lldb.py,
which performs postprocessing on the swig-generated interface files.

In this patch, I add the "operator bool" to all SB classes which have an
IsValid method (which is the same logic used by modify-python-lldb.py).
This way, we make the two interfaces more constent, and it allows us to
rely on swig's automatic syntesis of python __nonzero__ methods instead
of doing manual fixups.

Jonas Devlieghere 84e571ce75 [Reproducers] Add LLDB_RECORD_DUMMY
Add a macro that doesn't actually record anything but still toggles the
API boundary. Removing just the register macros for lldb::thread_t
wasn't sufficient on NetBSD because the serialization logic needed the
underlying type to be complete.

This macro should be used by functions that are currently unsupported,
as they might trip the API boundary logic. This should be easy using the
lldb-instr tool.

Jonas Devlieghere 581af8b09d [SBAPI] Log from record macro
The current record macros already log the function being called. This
patch extends the macros to also log their input arguments and removes
explicit logging from the SB API.

This might degrade the amount of information in some cases (because of
smarter casts or efforts to log return values). However I think this is
outweighed by the increased coverage and consistency. Furthermore, using
the reproducer infrastructure, diagnosing bugs in the API layer should
become much easier compared to relying on log messages.

/BIGOBJ is used to bypass certain COFF file format
limitations and is used with, unsurprisingly, very big
object files.  This file has grown large enough that it
needs this flag in order to compile successfully.

Adrian Prantl 0e4c482124 Pass ConstString by value (NFC)
My apologies for the large patch. With the exception of ConstString.h
itself it was entirely produced by sed.

ConstString has exactly one const char * data member, so passing a
ConstString by reference is not any more efficient than copying it by
value. In both cases a single pointer is passed. But passing it by
value makes it harder to accidentally return the address of a local
object.

(This fixes rdar://problem/48640859 for the Apple folks)

Jonas Devlieghere bd4bf82a48 [SBAPI] Don't check IsValid in constructor
When running the test suite with the instrumentation macros, I noticed
two lldb-mi tests regressed. The issue was the copy constructor of
SBLineEntry. Without the macros the returned value would be elided, but
with the macros the copy constructor was called. The latter using ::IsValid
to determine whether the underlying opaque pointer should be set. This
is likely a remnant of when ::IsValid would only check the validity of the
smart pointer. In SBLineEntry however, it actually forwards to
LineEntry::IsValid().

So what happened here was that because of the macros the copy
constructor was called. The opaque pointer was valid but the LineEntry
didn't consider itself valid. So the copied-to object ended up default
initialized.

This patch replaces all checks for IsValid in copy (assignment)
constructors with checks for the opaque pointer itself.

Zachary Turner 805e71060e Move ProcessInfo from Host to Utility.
There are set of classes in Target that describe the parameters of a
process - e.g. it's PID, name, user id, and similar. However, since it
is a bare description of a process and contains no actual functionality,
there's nothing specifically that makes this appropriate for being in
Target -- it could just as well be describing a process on the host, or
some hypothetical virtual process that doesn't even exist.

To cement this, I'm moving these classes to Utility. It's possible that
we can find a better place for it in the future, but as it is neither
Host specific nor Target specific, Utility seems like the most appropriate
place for the time being.

After this there is only 2 remaining references to Target from Host,
which I'll address in a followup.

Shoaib Meenai 5be71faf4b [build] Rename clang-headers to clang-resource-headers
Summary:
The current install-clang-headers target installs clang's resource
directory headers. This is different from the install-llvm-headers
target, which installs LLVM's API headers. We want to introduce the
corresponding target to clang, and the natural name for that new target
would be install-clang-headers. Rename the existing target to
install-clang-resource-headers to free up the install-clang-headers name
for the new target, following the discussion on cfe-dev [1].

I didn't find any bots on zorg referencing install-clang-headers. I'll
send out another PSA to cfe-dev to accompany this rename.

Jonas Devlieghere d77c2e0926 [Reproducers] Capture and replay interpreter commands.
This patch adds the necessary logic to capture and replay commands
entered into the command interpreter. A DataRecorder shadows the input
and writes its data to a know file. During replay this file is used as
the command interpreter's input.

It's possible to the command interpreter more than once, with a
different input source. We support this scenario by using multiple
buffers. The synchronization for this takes place at the SB layer, where
we create a new recorder every time the debugger input is changed.
During replay we use the corresponding buffer as input.

Jonas Devlieghere d5b440369d Replace 'ap' with 'up' suffix in variable names. (NFC)
The `ap` suffix is a remnant of lldb's former use of auto pointers,
before they got deprecated. Although all their uses were replaced by
unique pointers, some variables still carried the suffix.

In r353795 I removed another auto_ptr remnant, namely redundant calls to
::get for unique_pointers. Jim justly noted that this is a good
opportunity to clean up the variable names as well.

I went over all the changes to ensure my find-and-replace didn't have
any undesired side-effects. I hope I didn't miss any, but if you end up
at this commit doing a git blame on a weirdly named variable, please
know that the change was unintentional.

Jonas Devlieghere 796ac80b86 Use std::make_shared in LLDB (NFC)
Unlike std::make_unique, which is only available since C++14,
std::make_shared is available since C++11. Not only is std::make_shared
a lot more readable compared to ::reset(new), it also performs a single
heap allocation for the object and control block.

Aleksandr Urakov 40624a085c [Expressions] Add support of expressions evaluation in some object's context
Summary:
This patch adds support of expression evaluation in a context of some object.
Consider the following example:
```
struct S {
  int a = 11;
  int b = 12;
};

int main() {
  S s;
  int a = 1;
  int b = 2;
  // We have stopped here
  return 0;
}
```
This patch allows to do something like that:
```
lldb.frame.FindVariable("s").EvaluateExpression("a + b")
```
and the result will be `33` (not `3`) because fields `a` and `b` of `s` will be
used (not locals `a` and `b`).

This is achieved by replacing of `this` type and object for the expression. This
has some limitations: an expression can be evaluated only for values located in
the debuggee process memory (they must have an address of `eAddressTypeLoad`
type).

Pavel Labath eef758e949 Move FileAction, ProcessInfo and ProcessLaunchInfo from Target to Host
Summary:
These classes describe the details of the process we are about to
launch, and so they are naturally used by the launching code in the Host
module. Previously they were present in Target because that is the most
important (but by far not the only) user of the launching code.

Since the launching code has other customers, must of which do not care
about Targets, it makes sense to move these classes to the Host layer,
next to the launching code.

This move reduces the number of times that Target is included from host
to 8 (it used to be 14).

Chandler Carruth 2946cd7010 Update the file headers across all of the LLVM projects in the monorepo
to reflect the new license.

We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header
entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the
Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach.

Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM
project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers
include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed
code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of
our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and
repository.

Adrian Prantl d963a7c398 Make CompilerType::getBitSize() / getByteSize() return an optional result. NFC
The code in LLDB assumes that CompilerType and friends use the size 0
as a sentinel value to signal an error. This works for C++, where no
zero-sized type exists, but in many other programming languages
(including I believe C) types of size zero are possible and even
common. This is a particular pain point in swift-lldb, where extra
code exists to double-check that a type is *really* of size zero and
not an error at various locations.

To remedy this situation, this patch starts by converting
CompilerType::getBitSize() and getByteSize() to return an optional
result. To avoid wasting space, I hand-rolled my own optional data
type assuming that no type is larger than what fits into 63
bits. Follow-up patches would make similar changes to the ValueObject
hierarchy.

Zachary Turner 576495e67b [SymbolFile] Remove SymbolContext parameter from FindTypes.
This parameter was only ever used with the Module set, and
since a SymbolFile is tied to a module, the parameter turns
out to be entirely unnecessary.  Furthermore, it doesn't make
a lot of sense to ask a caller to ask SymbolFile which is tied
to Module X to find types for Module Y, but that possibility
was open with the previous interface.  By removing this
parameter from the API, it makes it harder to use incorrectly
as well as easier for an implementor to understand what it
needs to do.

Pavel Labath 1cf23e1a37 Introduce SymbolFileBreakpad and use it to fill symtab
Summary:
This commit adds the glue code necessary to integrate the
SymbolFileBreakpad into the plugin system. Most of the methods are
stubbed out. The only method implemented method is AddSymbols, which
parses the PUBLIC "section" of the breakpad "object file", and fills out
the Module's symtab.

To enable testing this, I've made two additional changes:
- dump Symtab from the SymbolVendor class. The symtab was already being
  dumped as a part of the object file dump, but that happened before
  symbol vendor kicked in, so it did not reflect any symbols added
  there.
- add ability to explicitly specify the external symbol file in
  lldb-test (so that the object file could be linked with the breakpad
  symbol file). To make things simpler, I've changed lldb-test from
  consuming multiple inputs (and dumping their symbols) to having it
  just process a single file per invocation. This was not a problem
  since everyone was using it that way already.

Summary:
Simplify SWIG invocation and handling of generated files.

The `swig_wrapper` target can generate `LLDBWrapPython.cpp` and `lldb.py` in its own binary directory, so we can get rid of a few global variables and their logic. We can use the swig_wrapper's BINARY_DIR target property to refer to it and liblldb's LIBRARY_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY to refer to the framework/shared object output directory.

Add features to LLDB CMake builds that have so far only been available in Xcode. Clean up a few inconveniences and prepare further improvements.

Options:
* `LLDB_FRAMEWORK_BUILD_DIR` determines target directory (in build-tree)
* `LLDB_FRAMEWORK_INSTALL_DIR` **only** determines target directory in install-tree
* `LLVM_EXTERNALIZE_DEBUGINFO` allows externalized debug info (dSYM on Darwin, emitted to `bin`)
* `LLDB_FRAMEWORK_TOOLS` determines which executables will be copied to the framework's Resources (dropped symlinking, removed INCLUDE_IN_SUITE, removed dummy targets)

Other changes:
* clean up `add_lldb_executable()`
* include `LLDBFramework.cmake` from `source/API/CMakeLists.txt`
* use `*.plist.in` files, which are typical for CMake and independent from Xcode
* add clang headers to the framework bundle

Kuba Mracek c9e1190a27 [lldb] Retrieve currently handled Obj-C exception via __cxa_current_exception_type and add GetCurrentExceptionBacktrace SB ABI
This builds on https://reviews.llvm.org/D43884 and https://reviews.llvm.org/D43886 and extends LLDB support of Obj-C exceptions to also look for a "current exception" for a thread in the C++ exception handling runtime metadata (via call to __cxa_current_exception_type). We also construct an actual historical SBThread/ThreadSP that contains frames from the backtrace in the Obj-C exception object.

The high level goal this achieves is that when we're already crashed (because an unhandled exception occurred), we can still access the exception object and retrieve the backtrace from the throw point. In Obj-C, this is particularly useful because a catch+rethrow is very common and in those cases you currently don't have any access to the throw point backtrace.

Pavel Labath d1e3fe2190 Rename ObjectFile::GetHeaderAddress to GetBaseAddress
Summary:
This function was named such because in the case of MachO files, the
mach header is located at this address. However all (most?) usages of
this function were not interested in that fact, but the fact that this
address is used as the base address for expressing various relative
addresses in the object file.

For other object file formats, this name is not appropriate (and it's
probably the reason why this function was not implemented in these
classes). In the ELF case the ELF header will usually end up at this
address, but this is a result of the linker optimizing the file layout
and not a requirement of the spec. For COFF files, I believe the is no
header located at this address either.

Pavel Labath 1f6b247717 Re-commit "Introduce ObjectFileBreakpad"
This re-commits r348592, which was reverted due to a failing test on
macos.

The issue was that I was passing a null pointer for the
"CreateMemoryInstance" callback when registering ObjectFileBreakpad,
which caused crashes when attemping to load modules from memory. The
correct thing to do is to pass a callback which always returns a null
pointer (as breakpad files are never loaded in inferior memory).

It turns out that there is only one test which exercises this code path,
and it's mac-only, so I've create a new test which should run everywhere
(except windows, as one cannot delete an executable which is being run).
Unfortunately, this test still fails on linux for other reasons, but at
least it gives us something to aim for.

The original commit message was:
This patch adds the scaffolding necessary for lldb to recognise symbol
files generated by breakpad. These (textual) files contain just enough
information to be able to produce a backtrace from a crash
dump. This information includes:
- UUID, architecture and name of the module
- line tables

Jonas Devlieghere 15eacd741f [Reproducers] Change how reproducers are initialized.
This patch changes the way the reproducer is initialized. Rather than
making changes at run time we now do everything at initialization time.
To make this happen we had to introduce initializer options and their SB
variant. This allows us to tell the initializer that we're running in
reproducer capture/replay mode.

Because of this change we also had to alter our testing strategy. We
cannot reinitialize LLDB when using the dotest infrastructure. Instead
we use lit and invoke two instances of the driver.

Another consequence is that we can no longer enable capture or replay
through commands. This was bound to go away form the beginning, but I
had something in mind where you could enable/disable specific providers.
However this seems like it adds very little value right now so the
corresponding commands were removed.

Finally this change also means you now have to control this through the
driver, for which I replaced --reproducer with --capture and --replay to
differentiate between the two modes.

Aleksandr Urakov 9b087d2ce6 [Target] Do not skip a stop on a breakpoint if a plan was completed
Summary:
This patch fixes the next situation. On Windows clang-cl makes no stub before
the main function, so the main function is located exactly on module entry
point. May be it is the same on other platforms. So consider the following
sequence:

- set a breakpoint on main and stop there;
- try to evaluate expression, which requires a code execution on the debuggee
  side. Such an execution always returns to the module entry, and the plan waits
  for it there;
- the plan understands that it is complete now and removes its breakpoint. But
  the breakpoint site is still there, because we also have a breakpoint on
  entry;
- StopInfo analyzes a situation. It sees that we have stopped on the breakpoint
  site, and it sees that the breakpoint site has owners, and no one logical
  breakpoint is internal (because the plan is already completed and it have
  removed its breakpoint);
- StopInfo thinks that it's a user breakpoint and skips it to avoid recursive
  computations;
- the program continues.

So in this situation the program continues without a stop right after
the expression evaluation. To avoid this an additional check that
the plan was completed was added.

Kuba Mracek e60bc53b46 [lldb] Add GetCurrentException APIs to SBThread, add frame recognizer for objc_exception_throw for Obj-C runtimes
This adds new APIs and a command to deal with exceptions (mostly Obj-C exceptions): SBThread and Thread get GetCurrentException API, which returns an SBValue/ValueObjectSP with the current exception for a thread. "Current" means an exception that is currently being thrown, caught or otherwise processed. In this patch, we only know about the exception when in objc_exception_throw, but subsequent patches will expand this (and add GetCurrentExceptionBacktrace, which will return an SBThread/ThreadSP containing a historical thread backtrace retrieved from the exception object. Currently unimplemented, subsequent patches will implement this).

Extracting the exception from objc_exception_throw is implemented by adding a frame recognizer.

This also add a new sub-command "thread exception", which prints the current exception.

Jonas Devlieghere 68ed93d252 [Reproducers] Improve reproducer API and add unit tests.
When I landed the initial reproducer framework I knew there were some
things that needed improvement. Rather than bundling it with a patch
that adds more functionality I split it off into this patch. I also
think the API is stable enough to add unit testing, which is included in
this patch as well.

Other improvements include:

 - Refactor how we initialize the loader and generator.
 - Improve naming consistency: capture and replay seems the least ambiguous.
 - Index providers by name and make sure there's only one of each.
 - Add convenience methods for creating and accessing providers.

Jonas Devlieghere e103ae92ef Add setting to require hardware breakpoints.
When debugging read-only memory we cannot use software breakpoint. We
already have support for hardware breakpoints and users can specify them
with `-H`. However, there's no option to force LLDB to use hardware
breakpoints internally, for example while stepping.

This patch adds a setting target.require-hardware-breakpoint that forces
LLDB to always use hardware breakpoints. Because hardware breakpoints
are a limited resource and can fail to resolve, this patch also extends
error handling in thread plans, where breakpoints are used for stepping.

Zachary Turner 991e44534a Don't type-erase the SymbolContextItem enumeration.
When we get the `resolve_scope` parameter from the SB API, it's a
`uint32_t`.  We then pass it through all of LLDB this way, as a uint32.
This is unfortunate, because it means the user of an API never actually
knows what they're dealing with.  We can call it something like
`resolve_scope` and have comments saying "this is a value from the
`SymbolContextItem` enumeration, but it makes more sense to just have it
actually *be* the correct type in the actual C++ type system to begin
with.  This way the person reading the code just knows what it is.

The reason to use integers instead of enumerations for flags is because
when you do bitwise operations on enumerations they get promoted to
integers, so it makes it tedious to constantly be casting them back
to the enumeration types, so I've introduced a macro to make this
happen magically.  By writing LLDB_MARK_AS_BITMASK_ENUM after defining
an enumeration, it will define overloaded operators so that the
returned type will be the original enum.  This should address all
the mechanical issues surrounding using rich enum types directly.

This way, we get a better debugger experience, and new users to
the codebase can get more easily acquainted with the codebase because
their IDE features can help them understand what the types mean.

Vedant Kumar 4b36f7911d Add support for artificial tail call frames
This patch teaches lldb to detect when there are missing frames in a
backtrace due to a sequence of tail calls, and to fill in the backtrace
with artificial tail call frames when this happens. This is only done
when the execution history can be determined from the call graph and
from the return PC addresses of calls on the stack. Ambiguous sequences
of tail calls (e.g anything involving tail calls and recursion) are
detected and ignored.

Stefan Granitz c678ed774d Add EchoCommentCommands to CommandInterpreterRunOptions in addition to the existing EchoCommands and expose both as interpreter settings.
Summary:
Add settings to control command echoing:
```
(lldb) settings set interpreter.echo-commands true
(lldb) settings set interpreter.echo-comment-commands true
```

Both settings default to true, which keeps LLDB's existing behavior in non-interactive mode (echo all command inputs to the output).

So far the only way to change this behavior was the `--source-quietly` flag, which disables all output including evaluation results.
Now `echo-commands` allows to turn off echoing for commands, while evaluation results are still printed. No effect if `--source-quietly` was present.
`echo-comment-commands` allows to turn off echoing for commands in case they are pure comment lines. No effect if `echo-commands` is false.

Note that the behavior does not change immediately! The new settings take effect only with the next command source.

LLDB lit test are the main motivation for this feature. So far incoming `#CHECK` line have always been echoed to the output and so they could never fail. Now we can disable it in lit-lldb-init.
Todos: Finish test for this feature. Add to lit-lldb-init. Check for failing lit tests.

Raphael Isemann 7f88829cea Add support for descriptions with command completions.
Summary:
This patch adds a framework for adding descriptions to the command completions we provide.
It also adds descriptions for completed top-level commands so that we can test this code.

Completions are in general supposed to be displayed alongside the completion itself. The descriptions
can be used to provide additional information about the completion to the user. Examples for descriptions
are function signatures when completing function calls in the expression command or the binary name
when providing completion for a symbol.

There is still some boilerplate code from the old completion API left in LLDB (mostly because the respective
APIs are reused for non-completion related purposes, so the CompletionRequest doesn't make sense to be
used), so that's why I still had to change some function signatures. Also, as the old API only passes around a
list of matches, and the descriptions are for these functions just another list, I had to add some code that
essentially just ensures that both lists are always the same side (e.g. all the manual calls to
`descriptions->AddString(X)` below a `matches->AddString(Y)` call).

The initial command descriptions that come with this patch are just reusing the existing
short help that is already added in LLDB.

An example completion with descriptions looks like this:

Alex Langford aad4027dc3 Add compatibility version to liblldb in framework builds
Summary:
Building LLDB with xcodebuild sets the compatibility version of liblldb
in LLDB.framework. Building the framework with cmake does not set the
compatibility version, and so it defaults to 0.0.0. This is a discrepency in the
difference between the xcode build and the cmake build.

I tested this change by building without this patch. From the build tree I ran
`otool -L Library/Frameworks/LLDB.framework/Versions/A/LLDB` and got this:
```
@rpath/LLDB.framework/Versions/A/LLDB (compatibility version 0.0.0, current version 8.0.0)
```

Did the same with this patch and the output contained this:
```

Adrian Prantl 431b158400 Support setting a breakpoint by FileSpec+Line+Column in the SBAPI.

Alex Langford 36706fd977 Introduce install-lldb-framework target
Summary:
Previously, I thought that install-liblldb would fail because CMake had
a bug related to installing frameworks. In actuality, I misunderstood the
semantics of `add_custom_target`: the DEPENDS option refers to specific files,
not targets. Therefore `install-liblldb` should rely on the actual liblldb
getting generated rather than the target.

This means that the previous patch I committed (to stop relying on CMake's
framework support) is no longer needed and has been reverted. Using CMake's
framework support greatly simplifies the implementation.

`install-lldb-framework` (and the stripped variant) is as simple as
depending on `install-liblldb` because CMake knows that liblldb was built as a
framework and will install the whole framework for you. The stripped variant
will depend on the stripped variants of individual tools only to ensure they
actually are stripped as well.

Alex Langford 97ba3b64dd Invert dependency between lldb-framework and lldb-suite
Summary:
Currently, if you build lldb-framework the entire framework doesn't
actually build. In order to build the entire framework, you need to actually
build lldb-suite. This abstraction doesn't feel quite right because
lldb-framework truly does depend on lldb-suite (liblldb + related tools).

In this change I want to invert their dependency. This will mean that lldb and
finish_swig will depend on lldb-framework in a framework build, and lldb-suite
otherwise. Instead of adding conditional logic everywhere to handle this, I
introduce LLDB_SUITE_TARGET to handle it.

Pavel Labath abc0c6ad09 Skip core file tests on build configurations lacking necessary components
Summary:
To successfully open a core file, we need to have LLVM built with
support for the relevant target. Right now, if one does not have the
appropriate targets configured, the tests will fail.

This patch uses the GetBuildConfiguration SB API to inform the test (and
anyone else who cares) about the list of supported LLVM targets. The
test then uses this information to approriately skip the tests.

Pavel Labath 2f93fd1f50 Represent invalid UUIDs as UUIDs with length zero
Summary:
During the previous attempt to generalize the UUID class, it was
suggested that we represent invalid UUIDs as length zero (previously, we
used an all-zero UUID for that). This meant that some valid build-ids
could not be represented (it's possible however unlikely that a checksum of
some file would be zero) and complicated adding support for variable
length build-ids (should a 16-byte empty UUID compare equal to a 20-byte
empty UUID?).

This patch resolves these issues by introducing a canonical
representation for an invalid UUID. The slight complication here is that
some clients (MachO) actually use the all-zero notation to mean "no UUID
has been set". To keep this use case working (while making it very
explicit about which construction semantices are wanted), replaced the
UUID constructors and the SetBytes functions with named factory methods.
- "fromData" creates a UUID from the given data, and it treats all bytes
  equally.
- "fromOptionalData" first checks the data contents - if all bytes are
  zero, it treats this as an invalid/empty UUID.

Pavel Labath 470b286ee5 Modernize UUID class
Instead of a separate GetBytes + GetByteSize methods I introduce a
single GetBytes method returning an ArrayRef.

This is NFC cleanup now, but it should make handling arbitrarily-sized
UUIDs cleaner, should we choose to go that way. I also took the
opportunity to add some unit tests for this class.

Pavel Labath 60f028ff03 Replace HostInfo::GetLLDBPath with specific functions
Summary:
Instead of a function taking an enum value determining which path to
return, we now have a suite of functions, each returning a single path
kind. This makes it easy to move the python-path function into a
specific plugin in a follow-up commit.

All the users of GetLLDBPath were converted to call specific functions
instead. Most of them were hard-coding the enum value anyway, so this
conversion was simple. The only exception was SBHostOS, which I've
changed to use a switch on the incoming enum value.

Summary:
In this patch I aim to do the following:

1) Create an lldb-framework target that acts as the target that handles generating LLDB.framework. Previously, liblldb acted as the target for generating the framework in addition to generating the actual lldb library. This made the target feel overloaded.
2) Centralize framework generation as much as it makes sense to do so.
3) Create a target lldb-suite, which depends on every tool and library that makes liblldb fully functional. One result of having this target is it makes tracking dependencies much clearer.

Jonas Devlieghere 937348cd13 [FileSpec] Make style argument mandatory for SetFile. NFC
SetFile has an optional style argument which defaulted to the native
style. This patch makes that argument mandatory so clients of the
FileSpec class are forced to think about the correct syntax.

At the same time this introduces a (protected) convenience method to
update the file from within the FileSpec class that keeps the current
style.

These two changes together prevent a potential pitfall where the style
might be forgotten, leading to the path being updated and the style
unintentionally being changed to the host style.

Additionally, the implementation was unconditionally setting sb_process, so it wasn't even possible to check if the return SBProcess is valid.

This change adds a new overload which surfaces the errors and also returns a valid SBProcess only if the core load succeeds:

Pavel Labath fa3fa5b90e Move ObjectFile initialization out of SystemInitializerCommon
Summary:
For lldb-server, it is sufficient to parse only the native object file
format for its target OS (no other file can be loaded into a running
process). This moves the object file initialization code into specific
initializer classes: lldb-test and liblldb get all object files;
lldb-server gets only one of them. For this to work, I've needed to
create a special SystemInitializer for use in lldb-server, instead of it
calling directly into the common one.

This reduces the size of lldb-server by about 2%, which is not
earth-shattering, but it's an easy win, and it helps.

Pavel Labath 4c7763eb2f Enable ProcessMachCore plugin on non-apple platforms
Summary:
The plugin already builds fine on other platforms (linux, at least). All
that was necessary was to revitalize the hack in PlatformDarwinKernel
(not a very pretty hack, but it gets us going at least).

I haven't done a thorough investigation of the state of the plugin on
other platforms, but at least the two core file tests we have seem to
pass, so I enable them.

Pavel Labath 145d95c964 Move Args.cpp from Interpreter to Utility

The Args class is used in plenty of places besides the command
interpreter (e.g., anything requiring an argc+argv combo, such as when
launching a process), so it needs to be in a lower layer. Now that the
class has no external dependencies, it can be moved down to the Utility
module.

This removes the last (direct) dependency from the Host module to
Interpreter, so I remove the Interpreter module from Host's dependency
list.

Pavel Labath 62930e57eb Add Utility/Environment class for handling... environments
Summary:
There was some confusion in the code about how to represent process
environment. Most of the code (ab)used the Args class for this purpose,
but some of it used a more basic StringList class instead. In either
case, the fact that the underlying abstraction did not provide primitive
operations for the typical environment operations meant that even a
simple operation like checking for an environment variable value was
several lines of code.

This patch adds a separate Environment class, which is essentialy a
llvm::StringMap<std::string> in disguise. To standard StringMap
functionality, it adds a couple of new functions, which are specific to
the environment use case:
- (most important) envp conversion for passing into execve() and likes.
  Instead of trying to maintain a constantly up-to-date envp view, it
  provides a function which creates a envp view on demand, with the
  expectation that this will be called as the very last thing before
  handing the value to the system function.
- insert(StringRef KeyEqValue) - splits KeyEqValue into (key, value)
  pair and inserts it into the environment map.
- compose(value_type KeyValue) - takes a map entry and converts in back
  into "KEY=VALUE" representation.

With this interface most of the environment-manipulating code becomes
one-liners. The only tricky part was maintaining compatibility in
SBLaunchInfo, which expects that the environment entries are accessible
by index and that the returned const char* is backed by the launch info
object (random access into maps is hard and the map stores the entry in
a deconstructed form, so we cannot just return a .c_str() value). To
solve this, I have the SBLaunchInfo convert the environment into the
"envp" form, and use it to answer the environment queries. Extra code is
added to make sure the envp version is always in sync.

(This also improves the layering situation as Args was in the Interpreter module
whereas Environment is in Utility.)

Pavel Labath f59056ff93 Fix assertion in ClangASTContext
Summary:
llvm::APSInt(0) asserts because it creates an int with bit-width 0 and
not (as I thought) a value 0.

Theoretically it should be sufficient to change this to APSInt(1), as
the intention there was that the value of the first argument should be
ignored if the type is invalid, but that would look dodgy.

Instead, I use llvm::Optional to denote an invalid value and use a
special struct instead of a std::pair, to reduce typing and increase
clarity.

Pavel Labath 5f19b90783 Move ArchSpec to the Utility module
The rationale here is that ArchSpec is used throughout the codebase,
including in places which should not depend on the rest of the code in
the Core module.

This commit touches many files, but most of it is just renaming of
 #include lines. In a couple of cases, I removed the #include ArchSpec
line altogether, as the file was not using it. In one or two places,
this necessitated adding other #includes like lldb-private-defines.h.

Pavel Labath 769b21eaf2 CompilerType: Add ability to retrieve an integral template argument
Summary:
Despite it's name, GetTemplateArgument was only really working for Type
template arguments. This adds the ability to retrieve integral arguments
as well (which I've needed for the std::bitset data formatter).

I've done this by splitting the function into three pieces. The idea is
that one first calls GetTemplateArgumentKind (first function) to
determine the what kind of a parameter this is. Based on that, one can
then use specialized functions to retrieve the correct value. Currently,
I only implement two of these: GetTypeTemplateArgument and
GetIntegralTemplateArgument.

Pavel Labath f753bfeeec Fix LLVM_LINK_LLVM_DYLIB build (pr35053)
Summary:
r316368 broke this build when it introduced a reference to a pthread
function to the Utility module. This caused cmake to generate an
incorrect link line (wrong order of libs) because it did not see the
dependency from Utility to the system libraries. Instead these libraries
were being manually added to each final target.

This changes moves the dependency management from the individual targets
to the lldbUtility module, which is consistent with how llvm does it.
The final targets will pick up these libraries as they will be a part of
the link interface of the module.

Technically, some of these dependencies could go into the host module,
as that's where most of the os-specific code is, but I did not try to
investigate which ones.

Pavel Labath 7263f1bda6 Invert ArchSpec<->Platform dependency
Summary:
ArchSpec::SetTriple was taking a Platform as an argument, and used it to
fill in missing pieces of the specified triple. I invert the dependency
by moving this code to other classes. For this purpose, I've created
three new functions.
- HostInfo::GetAugmentedArchSpec: fills in the triple using the host
  platform (this used to be implemented by passing a null platform
  pointer). By putting this code in the Host module, we can provide a
  way to anyone who does not have a platform instance (lldb-server) an
  easy way to get Host data.
- Platform::GetAugmentedArchSpec: if you have a platform instance, you
  can call this to let it fill in the triple.
- static Platform::GetAugmentedArchSpec: implements the "if platform ==
  0 then use_host() else use_platform()" part.

callback to this place. The motivation for this is to remove complex
dependencies from the ArchSpec class because it is used in a lot of

Jim Ingham b842f2ecf0 Make breakpoint names real entities.
When introduced, breakpoint names were just tags that you could
apply to breakpoints that would allow you to refer to a breakpoint
when you couldn't capture the ID, or to refer to a collection of
breakpoints.  

This change makes the names independent holders of breakpoint options
that you can then apply to breakpoints when you add the name to the
breakpoint.  It adds the "breakpoint name configure" command to set
up or reconfigure breakpoint names.  There is also full support for
then in the SB API, including a new SBBreakpointName class.

The connection between the name and the breakpoints
sharing the name remains live, so if you reconfigure the name, all the
breakpoint options all change as well.  This allows a quick way
to share complex breakpoint behavior among a bunch of breakpoints, and
a convenient way to iterate on the set.

You can also create a name from a breakpoint, allowing a quick way
to copy options from one breakpoint to another.

I also added the ability to make hidden and delete/disable protected
names.  When applied to a breakpoint, you will only be able to list,
delete or disable that breakpoint if you refer to it explicitly by ID.

This feature will allow GUI's that need to use breakpoints for their
own purposes to keep their breakpoints from getting accidentally 
disabled or deleted.

Jim Ingham f08f5c9926 Add an auto-continue flag to breakpoints & locations.
You can get a breakpoint to auto-continue by adding "continue"
as a command, but that has the disadvantage that if you hit two
breakpoints simultaneously, the continue will force the process
to continue, and maybe even forstalling the commands on the other.
The auto-continue flag means the breakpoints can negotiate about
whether to stop.

Writing tests, I wanted to supply some commands when I made the
breakpoints, so I also added that ability.

Jim Ingham af26b22cd2 Fix a mis-feature with propagation of breakpoint options -> location options.
When an option was set at on a location, I was just copying the whole option set 
to the location, and letting it shadow the breakpoint options.  That was wrong since
it meant changes to unrelated options on the breakpoint would no longer take on this
location.  I added a mask of set options and use that for option propagation.

I also added a "location" property to breakpoints, and added SBBreakpointLocation.{G,S}etCommandLineCommands
since I wanted to use them to write some more test cases.

On iOS frameworks don't have versions or resources, they are flatter bundles. This updates the LLDB framework build to accommodate the flatter bundles.

Jason Molenda 43294c9f48 Change the ABI class to have a weak pointer to its Process;
some methods in the ABI need a Process to do their work.
Instead of passing it in as a one-off argument to those
methods, this patch puts it in the base class and the methods
can retrieve if it needed.

Note that ABI's are sometimes built without a Process 
(e.g. SBTarget::GetStackRedZoneSize) so it's entirely
possible that the process weak pointer will not be
able to reconsistitue into a strong pointer.

Pavel Labath 4ccd99541b Move Connection and IOObject interfaces to Utility module
Summary:
These interfaces have no dependencies, so it makes sense for them to be
in the lowest level modules, to make sure that other parts of the
codebase can use them without introducing loops.

The only exception here is the Connection::CreateDefaultConnection
method, which I've moved to Host, as it instantiates concrete
implementations, and that's where the implementations live.

Pavel Labath 2a1c09fee9 Shorten sanitizer plugin names
Summary:
The new UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer plugin was breaking file path length
limits, because it's (fairly long name) appears multiple times in the
path. Cmake ends up putting the object file at path
tools/lldb/source/Plugins/InstrumentationRuntime/UndefinedBehaviorSanitizer/CMakeFiles/lldbPluginInstrumentationRuntimeUndefinedBehaviorSanitizer.dir/UndefinedBehaviorSanitizerRuntime.cpp.obj
which is 191 characters long and very dangerously close to the 260
character path limit on windows systems (also, just the include line for
that file was breaking the 80 character line limit).

This renames the sanitizer plugins to use shorter names (asan, ubsan,
tsan). I think this will still be quite understandable to everyone as
those are the names everyone uses to refer to them anyway.

Pavel Labath f9d1647657 Remove an expensive lock from Timer
The Timer destructor would grab a global mutex in order to update
execution time. Add a class to define a category once, statically; the
class adds itself to an atomic singly linked list, and thus subsequent
updates only need to use an atomic rather than grab a lock and perform a
hashtable lookup.

Zachary Turner 97206d5727 Rename Error -> Status.
This renames the LLDB error class to Status, as discussed
on the lldb-dev mailing list.

A change of this magnitude cannot easily be done without
find and replace, but that has potential to catch unwanted
occurrences of common strings such as "Error".  Every effort
was made to find all the obvious things such as the word "Error"
appearing in a string, etc, but it's possible there are still
some lingering occurences left around.  Hopefully nothing too
serious.

Jim Ingham abc5d72f02 Be a little more permissive in DynamicLoaderMacOS::CanLoadImage
If we can't find the "is dyld locked" symbol, assume it is safe
to load the image unless we only have 1 image loaded - in which case
we are in _dyld_start and it is definitely NOT safe.

Also add a little better errors to that function, and better logging
in SBProcess.cpp.

Ravitheja Addepally d5d8d91c1d Initial implementation of SB APIs for Tracing support.
Summary:
This patch introduces new SB APIs for tracing support
inside LLDB. The idea is to gather trace data from
LLDB and provide it through this APIs to external
tools integrating with LLDB. These tools will be
responsible for interpreting and presenting the
trace data to their users.

The patch implements the following new SB APIs ->
-> StartTrace - starts tracing with given parameters
-> StopTrace - stops tracing.
-> GetTraceData - read the trace data .
-> GetMetaData - read the meta data assosciated with the trace.
-> GetTraceConfig - read the trace configuration

Tracing is associated with a user_id that is returned
by the StartTrace API and this id needs to be used
for accessing the trace data and also Stopping
the trace. The user_id itself may map to tracing
the complete process or just an individual thread.
The APIs require an additional thread parameter
when the user of these APIs wishes to perform
thread specific manipulations on the tracing instances.
The patch also includes the corresponding
python wrappers for the C++ based APIs.

Kamil Rytarowski 12801f1e0f [LLDB] OpenBSD support
Summary:
Add basic OpenBSD support. This is enough to be able to analyze core dumps for OpenBSD/amd64, OpenBSD/arm, OpenBSD/arm64 and OpenBSD/i386.

Note that part of the changes to source/Plugins/ObjectFile/ELF/ObjectFileELF.cpp fix a bug that probably affects other platforms as well.  The GetProgramHeaderByIndex() interface use 1-based indices, but in some case when looping over the headers the, the loop starts at 0 and misses the last header.  This caused problems on OpenBSD since OpenBSD core dumps have the PT_NOTE segment as the last program header.

Zachary Turner 8d48cd6009 Resubmit "Delete the remainder of platform specific code in FileSpec."
This was causing a test failure in one of LLDB's tests which
specifically dealt with a limitation in LLVM's implementation
of home_directory() that LLDB's own implementation had worked
around.

This limitation has been addressed in r298513 on the LLVM side,
so the failing test (which is now unnecessary as the limitation
no longer exists) was removed in r298519, allowing this patch to
be re-submitted without modification.

Summary:
previously we switched to llvm streams for log output, this completes
the switch for the error streams.

I also clean up the includes and remove the unused argument from
DisableAllLogChannels().

This required adding a bit of boiler plate to convert the output in the
command interpreter, but that should go away when we switch command
results to use llvm streams as well.

Pavel Labath 30e6cbfcfc Revert "Use LLVM for all stat-related functionality."
this reverts r297116 because it breaks the unittests and
TestCompDirSymlink. The ModuleCache unit test is trivially fixable, but
the CompDirSymlink failure is a symptom of a deeper problem: llvm's stat
functionality is not a drop-in replacement for lldb's. The former is
based on stat(2) (which does symlink resolution), while the latter is
based on lstat(2) (which does not).

This also reverts subsequent build fixes (r297128, r297120, 297117) and
r297119 (Remove FileSpec dependency on FileSystem) which builds on top
of this.

Zachary Turner 7f6a7a3752 Remove FileSpec::ReadFileContents.
This functionality is subsumed by DataBufferLLVM, which is
also more efficient since it will try to mmap.  However, we
don't yet support mmaping writable private sections, and in
some cases we were using ReadFileContents and then modifying
the buffer.  To address that I've added a flag to the
DataBufferLLVM methods that allow you to map privately, which
disables the mmaping path entirely.  Eventually we should teach
DataBufferLLVM to use mmap with writable private, but that is
orthogonal to this effort.

In an effort to move the various DataBuffer / DataExtractor
classes from Core -> Utility, we have to separate the low-level
functionality from the higher level functionality.  Only a
few functions required anything other than reading/writing
raw bytes, so those functions are separated out into a
more appropriate area.  Specifically, Dump() and DumpHexBytes()
are moved into free functions in Core/DumpDataExtractor.cpp,
and GetGNUEHPointer is moved into a static function in the
only file that it's referenced from.

Pavel Labath 6ac8403430 Switch SBBreakpoint to storing a weak_ptr of the internal breakpoint object
Summary:
There is nothing we can do with the breakpoint once the associated
target becomes deleted. This will make sure we don't hold on to more
resources than we need in this case. In particular, this fixes the case
TestStepOverBreakpoint on windows, where a lingering SBBreakpoint object
causes us to nor unmap the executable file from memory.

Summary:
Per discussion in D28616, having two ways two request logging (log
enable lldb XXX verbose && log enable -v lldb XXX) is confusing. This
removes the first option and standardizes all code to use the second
one.

I've added a LLDB_LOGV macro as a shorthand for if(log &&
log->GetVerbose()) and switched most of the affected log statements to
use that (I've only left a couple of cases that were doing complex
computations in an if(log) block).

The goal here is to get lldbUtility into a state where it has
no dependendencies except on itself and LLVM, so it can be the
starting point at which to start untangling LLDB's dependencies.
These are all low level and very widely used classes, and
previously lldbUtility had dependencies up to lldbCore in order
to use these classes.  So moving then down to lldbUtility makes
sense from both the short term and long term perspective in
solving this problem.

Chris Bieneman 679d02f2a1 [CMake] Only support LLDB_BUILD_FRAMEWORK on CMake 3.7 and later
CMake's framework target generation was unable to generate POST_BUILD steps (see: https://gitlab.kitware.com/cmake/cmake/issues/16363).

It turns out working around this is really not reasonable. The more reasonable solution to me is just to not support LLDB.framework unless you are on CMake 3.7 or newer.

Since CMake 3.7.1 is released that's how I'm going to handle this.

Hafiz Abid Qadeer f6ee79c926 Fix build for mingw.
Summary: I was building lldb using cross mingw-w64 toolchain on Linux and observed some issues. This is first patch in the series to fix that build. It mostly corrects the case of include files and adjusts some #ifdefs from _MSC_VER to _WIN32 and vice versa. I built lldb on windows with VS after applying this patch to make sure it does not break the build there.

Pavel Labath d35031e1e5 Use Timeout<> in the Listener class
Summary:
Communication classes use the Timeout<> class to specify the timeout. Listener
class was converted to chrono some time ago, but it used a different meaning for
a timeout of zero (Listener: infinite wait, Communication: no wait). Instead,
Listener provided separate functions which performed a non-blocking event read.

This converts the Listener class to the new Timeout class, to improve
consistency. It also allows us to get merge the different GetNextEvent*** and
WaitForEvent*** functions into one. No functional change intended.

Adrian McCarthy 4ad5def9b0 Refactor LLDB's Windows process plugin (NFC)
The Windows process plugin was broken up into multiple pieces a while back in
order to share code between debugging live processes and minidumps
(postmortem) debugging. The minidump portion was replaced by a cross-platform
solution. This left the plugin split into a formerly "common" base classes and
the derived classes for live debugging. This extra layer made the code harder
to understand and work with.

This patch simplifies these class hierarchies by rolling the live debugging
concrete classes up to the base classes. Last week I posted my intent to make
this change to lldb-dev, and I didn't hear any objections.

This involved moving code and changing references to classes like
ProcessWindowsLive to ProcessWindows. It still builds for both 32- and 64-bit,
and the tests still pass on 32-bit. (Tests on 64-bit weren't passing before
this refactor for unrelated reasons.)

Zachary Turner c156427ded Don't allow direct access to StreamString's internal buffer.
This is a large API change that removes the two functions from
StreamString that return a std::string& and a const std::string&,
and instead provide one function which returns a StringRef.

Direct access to the underlying buffer violates the concept of
a "stream" which is intended to provide forward only access,

Summary:
This commit disables the windows-only minidump plugin and enables the new
cross-platform plugin for windows minidump files. Test decorators are adjusted to
reflect that: windows minidump tests can now run  on all platforms. The exception
is the tests that create minidump files, as that functionality is not available
yet.  I've checked that this works on windows and linux.

Jim Ingham 6a9767c7e6 Clean up the stop printing header lines.
I added a "thread-stop-format" to distinguish between the form
that is just the thread info (since the stop printing immediately prints
the frame info) and one with more frame 0 info - which is useful for
"thread list" and the like.

I also added a frame.no-debug boolean to the format entities so you can
print frame information differently between frames with source info and those
without.

Jim Ingham 306b62b4ae Switch SBWatchpoint::SetEnabled over to using Process::{Enable,Disable}Watchpoint.
We don't have a good story for what happens to watchpoints when you don't
have a process, or if your process exits.  Clearing that up will instruct 
how to fix this for real.

Also added a test to make sure disable->enable works as well.
This resolves llvm.org/pr30789.

Chris Bieneman b9fc4727cc [CMake] Populate the build directory's framework
This ensures that the Resources and clang headers are properly symlinked in LLDB's framework. This should fix the modules-related tests when building on Darwin with CMake if you are building a framework.

I have another fix coming which gets them working on Darwin if you're building liblldb instead of a framework.

Dimitar Vlahovski 7b18dd4f77 Minidump plugin: Adding ProcessMinidump, ThreadMinidump and register the plugin in SystemInitializerFull
Summary:
This plugin resembles the already existing Windows-only Minidump plugin.
The WinMinidumpPlugin uses the Windows API for parsing Minidumps
while this plugin is cross-platform because it includes a Minidump
parser (which is already commited)

It is able to produce a backtrace, to read the general puprose regiters,
inspect local variables, show image list, do memory reads, etc.

For now the only arches that this supports are x86_32 and x86_64.
This is because I have only written register contexts for those.
Others will come in next CLs.

I copied the WinMinidump tests and adapted them a little bit for them to
work with the new plugin (and they pass)
I will add more tests, aiming for better code coverage.

There is still functionality to be added, see TODOs in code.

Summary:
This patch adds support for installing public headers in LLDB.framework, and symlinking the headers into the build directory.

While writing the patch I discovered a bug in CMake that prevents applying POST_BUILD steps to framework targets (https://gitlab.kitware.com/cmake/cmake/issues/16363).

I've implemented the support using POST_BUILD steps wrapped under a CMake version check with a TODO so that we can track the fix.

Zachary Turner d6ef28462b Disable warnings in LLDBWrapPython.cpp with -Werror.
When -Werror is used, we don't have control over the generated
code from SWIG, and it often has warnings.  Just disable them for
this file when -Werror is used, they are usually not important
anyway.

Jim Ingham f7e0725628 Fix serialization of Python breakpoint commands.
CommandData breakpoint commands didn't know whether they were
Python or Command line commands, so they couldn't serialize &
deserialize themselves properly.  Fix that.
I also changed the "breakpoint list" command to note in the output
when the commands are Python commands.  Fortunately only one test
was relying on this explicit bit of text output.

Chris Bieneman d3199f5ed2 [CMake] Initial support for LLDB.framework
Summary:
This patch adds a CMake option LLDB_BUILD_FRAMEWORK, which builds libLLDB as a macOS framework instead of as a *nix shared library.

With this patch any LLDB executable that has the INCLUDE_IN_FRAMEWORK option set will be built into the Framework's resources directory, and a symlink to the exeuctable will be placed under the build directory's bin folder. Creating the symlinks allows users to run commands from the build directory without altering the workflow.

The framework generated by this patch passes the LLDB test suite, but has not been tested beyond that. It is not expected to be fully ready to ship, but it is a first step.

With this patch binaries that are placed inside the framework aren't being properly installed. Fixing that would increase the patch size significantly, so I'd like to do that in a follow-up.

Todd Fiala 9666ba7526 add stop column highlighting support
This change introduces optional marking of the column within a source
line where a thread is stopped.  This marking will show up when the
source code for a thread stop is displayed, when the debug info
knows the column information, and if the optional column marking is
enabled.

There are two separate methods for handling the marking of the stop
column:

* via ANSI terminal codes, which are added inline to the source line
  display.  The default ANSI mark-up is to underline the column.

* via a pure text-based caret that is added in the appropriate column
  in a newly-inserted blank line underneath the source line in
  question.

There are some new options that control how this all works.

* settings set stop-show-column

  This takes one of 4 values:

  * ansi-or-caret: use the ANSI terminal code mechanism if LLDB
    is running with color enabled; if not, use the caret-based,
    pure text method (see the "caret" mode below).

  * ansi: only use the ANSI terminal code mechanism to highlight
    the stop line.  If LLDB is running with color disabled, no
    stop column marking will occur.

  * caret: only use the pure text caret method, which introduces
    a newly-inserted line underneath the current line, where
    the only character in the new line is a caret that highlights
    the stop column in question.

  * none: no stop column marking will be attempted.

* settings set stop-show-column-ansi-prefix

  This is a text format that indicates the ANSI formatting
  code to insert into the stream immediately preceding the
  column where the stop column character will be marked up.
  It defaults to ${ansi.underline}; however, it can contain
  any valid LLDB format codes, e.g.

      ${ansi.fg.red}${ansi.bold}${ansi.underline}

* settings set stop-show-column-ansi-suffix

  This is the text format that specifies the ANSI terminal
  codes to end the markup that was started with the prefix
  described above.  It defaults to: ${ansi.normal}.  This
  should be sufficient for the common cases.

Zachary Turner 95eae4235d Make lldb::Regex use StringRef.
This updates getters and setters to use StringRef instead of
const char *.  I tested the build on Linux, Windows, and OSX
and saw no build or test failures.  I cannot test any BSD
or Android variants, however I expect the required changes
to be minimal or non-existant.

Zachary Turner ecbb0bb169 Fix more functions in Args to use StringRef.
This patch also marks the const char* versions as =delete to prevent
their use.  This has the potential to cause build breakages on some
platforms which I can't compile.  I have tested on Windows, Linux,
and OSX.  Best practices for fixing broken callsites are outlined in
Args.h in a comment above the deleted function declarations.

Eventually we can remove these =delete declarations, but for now they
are important to make sure that all implicit conversions from
const char * are manually audited to make sure that they do not invoke a
conversion from nullptr.

*** to conform to clang-format’s LLVM style.  This kind of mass change has
*** two obvious implications:

Firstly, merging this particular commit into a downstream fork may be a huge
effort.  Alternatively, it may be worth merging all changes up to this commit,
performing the same reformatting operation locally, and then discarding the
merge for this particular commit.  The commands used to accomplish this
reformatting were as follows (with current working directory as the root of
the repository):

    find . \( -iname "*.c" -or -iname "*.cpp" -or -iname "*.h" -or -iname "*.mm" \) -exec clang-format -i {} +
    find . -iname "*.py" -exec autopep8 --in-place --aggressive --aggressive {} + ;

The version of clang-format used was 3.9.0, and autopep8 was 1.2.4.

Secondly, “blame” style tools will generally point to this commit instead of
a meaningful prior commit.  There are alternatives available that will attempt
to look through this change and find the appropriate prior commit.  YMMV.

Zachary Turner f343968f5d Delete Host/windows/win32.h
It's always hard to remember when to include this file, and
when you do include it it's hard to remember what preprocessor
check it needs to be behind, and then you further have to remember
whether it's windows.h or win32.h which you need to include.

This patch changes the name to PosixApi.h, which is more appropriately
named, and makes it independent of any preprocessor setting.

There's still the issue of people not knowing when to include this,
because there's not a well-defined set of things it exposes other
than "whatever is missing on Windows", but at least this should
make it less painful to fix when problems arise.

This patch depends on LLVM revision r278170.

Saleem Abdulrasool 2d6a9ec935 Clean up vestigial remnants of locking primitives
This finally removes the use of the Mutex and Condition classes. This is an
intricate patch as the Mutex and Condition classes were tied together.
Furthermore, many places had slightly differing uses of time values. Convert
timeout values to relative everywhere to permit the use of
std::chrono::duration, which is required for the use of
std::condition_variable's timeout. Adjust all Condition and related Mutex
classes over to std::{,recursive_}mutex and std::condition_variable.

This change primarily comes at the cost of breaking the TracingMutex which was
based around the Mutex class. It would be possible to write a wrapper to
provide similar functionality, but that is beyond the scope of this change.

Tamas Berghammer d7d69f8083 Support loading files even when incorrect file name specified by the linker
"Incorrect" file name seen on Android whene the main executable is
called "app_process32" (or 64) but the linker specifies the package
name (e.g. com.android.calculator2). Additionally it can be present
in case of some linker bugs.

This CL adds logic to try to fetch the correct file name from the proc
file system based on the base address sepcified by the linker in case
we are failed to load the module by name.

Jason Molenda 9ab5dc2417 Add a new DynamicLoader plugin that uses SPI that are in development
for the fall (northern hemisphere) 2016 Darwin platforms to learn
about loaded images, instead of reading dyld internal data structures.
These new SPI don't exist on older releases, and new packets are
needed from debugserver to use them (those changes are already committed).

I had to change the minimum deployment target for debugserver in the xcode
project file to macOS 10.10 so that debugserver will use the 
[[NSProcessInfo processInfo] operatingSystemVersion]
call in MachProcess::GetOSVersionNumbers to get the operarting system
version # -- this API is only available in macOS 10.10 and newer
("OS X Yosemite", released Oct 2014).  If we have many people building
llvm.org lldb on older systems still, we can back off on this for the
llvm.org sources.

There should be no change in behavior with this commit, either to
older darwin systems or newer darwin systems.

For now the new DynamicLoader plugin is never activated - I'm forcing
the old plugin to be used in DynamicLoaderDarwin::UseDYLDSPI.
I'll remove that unconditional use of the old plugin soon, so the
newer plugin is used on the newest Darwin platforms.

The patch re-uses the m_core_range_infos list that was recently added to implement GetMemoryRegionInfo in both ProcessElfCore and ProcessMachCore to ensure the returned regions match the regions returned by Process::GetMemoryRegionInfo(addr_t load_addr, MemoryRegionInfo &region_info).

Enrico Granata 106aae5108 Because of our lifetime rules w.r.t. ValueObjects and ClusterManagers, synthetic children caching is a tricky area:
- if a synthetic child comes from the same hierarchy as its parent object, then it can't be cached by SharedPointer inside the synthetic provider, or it will cause a reference loop;
- but, if a synthetic child is made from whole cloth (e.g. from an expression, a memory region, ...), then it better be cached by SharedPointer, or it will be cleared out and cause an assert() to fail if used at a later point

For most cases of self-rooted synthetic children, we have a flag we set "IsSyntheticChildrenGenerated", but we were not using it to track caching. So, what ended up happening is each provider would set up its own cache, and if it got it wrong, a hard to diagnose crash would ensue

This patch fixes that by centralizing caching in ValueObjectSynthetic - if a provider returns a self-rooted child (as per the flag), then it gets cached centrally by the ValueObject itself
This cache is used only for lifetime management and not later retrieval of child values - a different cache handles that (because we might have a mix of self-rooted and properly nested child values for the same parent, we can't trivially use this lifetime cache for retrieval)

Greg Clayton 63a27afae3 Added support for thread local variables on all Apple OS variants.
We had support that assumed that thread local data for a variable could be determined solely from the module in which the variable exists. While this work for linux, it doesn't work for Apple OSs. The DWARF for thread local variables consists of location opcodes that do something like:

DW_OP_const8u (x)
DW_OP_form_tls_address

or 

DW_OP_const8u (x)
DW_OP_GNU_push_tls_address

The "x" is allowed to be anything that is needed to determine the location of the variable. For Linux "x" is the offset within the TLS data for a given executable (ModuleSP in LLDB). For Apple OS variants, it is the file address of the data structure that contains a pthread key that can be used with pthread_getspecific() and the offset needed. 

This fix passes the "x" along to the thread:

virtual lldb::addr_t
lldb_private::Thread::GetThreadLocalData(const lldb::ModuleSP module, lldb::addr_t tls_file_addr);

Then this is passed along to the DynamicLoader::GetThreadLocalData():

virtual lldb::addr_t
lldb_private::DynamicLoader::GetThreadLocalData(const lldb::ModuleSP module, const lldb::ThreadSP thread, lldb::addr_t tls_file_addr);

This allows each DynamicLoader plug-in do the right thing for the current OS.

The DynamicLoaderMacOSXDYLD was modified to be able to grab the pthread key from the data structure that is in memory and call "void *pthread_getspecific(pthread_key_t key)" to get the value of the thread local storage and it caches it per thread since it never changes.

I had to update the test case to access the thread local data before trying to print it as on Apple OS variants, thread locals are not available unless they have been accessed at least one by the current thread.

I also added a new lldb::ValueType named "eValueTypeVariableThreadLocal" so that we can ask SBValue objects for their ValueType and be able to tell when we have a thread local variable.

Pavel Labath f17635375a Remove platform plugins from lldb-server
Summary:
This removes the last usage of Platform plugins in lldb-server -- it was used for launching child
processes, where it can be trivially replaced by Host::LaunchProces (as lldb-server is always
running on the host).

Removing platform plugins enables us to remove a lot of other unused code, which was pulled in as
a transitive dependency, and it reduces lldb-server size by 4%--9% (depending on build type and
architecture).

Howard Hellyer 2603684372 Add MemoryRegionInfo to SB API
Summary:
This adds new SB API calls and classes to allow a user of the SB API to obtain a full list of memory regions accessible within the process. Adding this to the API makes it possible use the API for tasks like scanning memory for blocks allocated with a header and footer to track down memory leaks, otherwise just inspecting every address is impractical especially for 64 bit processes.

These changes only add the API itself and a base implementation of GetMemoryRegions() to lldb_private::Process::GetMemoryRegions.
I will submit separate patches to fill in lldb_private::Process::GetMemoryRegionInfoList and GetMemoryRegionInfo for individual platforms.

Greg Clayton 4a9d83a55e Fix a memory leak in InstructionLLVMC where it held onto a strong reference to the DisassemblerLLVMC which in turn had a vector of InstructionSP causing the strong cycle. This is fixed now.
Rules are as follows for internal code using lldb::DisassemblerSP and lldb::InstructionSP:
1 - The disassembler needs to stay around as long as instructions do as the Instruction subclass now has a weak pointer to the disassembler
2 - The public API has been fixed so that if you get a SBInstruction, it will hold onto a strong reference to the disassembler in a new InstructionImpl class

This will keep code like like: 

inst = lldb.target.ReadInstructions(frame.GetPCAddress(), 1).GetInstructionAtIndex(0)
inst.GetMnemonic()

Working as expected (not the SBInstructionList() that was returned by SBTarget.ReadInstructions() is gone, but "inst" has a strong reference inside of it to the disassembler and the instruction.
                                                     
All code inside the LLDB shared library was verified to correctly hold onto the disassembler instance in all places.

Jim Ingham 76bb8d6719 Add the ability to limit "source regexp" breakpoints to a particular function
within a source file.

This isn't done, I need to make the name match smarter (right now it requires an
exact match which is annoying for methods of a class in a namespace.

Also, though we use it in tests all over the place, it doesn't look like we have
a test for Source Regexp breakpoints by themselves, I'll add that in a follow-on patch.

Ulrich Weigand bb00d0b6b2 Support Linux on SystemZ as platform
This patch adds support for Linux on SystemZ:
- A new ArchSpec value of eCore_s390x_generic
- A new directory Plugins/ABI/SysV-s390x providing an ABI implementation
- Register context support
- Native Linux support including watchpoint support
- ELF core file support
- Misc. support throughout the code base (e.g. breakpoint opcodes)
- Test case updates to support the platform

This should provide complete support for debugging the SystemZ platform.
Not yet supported are optional features like transaction support (zEC12)
or SIMD vector support (z13).

There is no instruction emulation, since our ABI requires that all code
provide correct DWARF CFI at all PC locations in .eh_frame to support
unwinding (i.e. -fasynchronous-unwind-tables is on by default).

The implementation follows existing platforms in a mostly straightforward
manner.  A couple of things that are different:

- We do not use PTRACE_PEEKUSER / PTRACE_POKEUSER to access single registers,
  since some registers (access register) reside at offsets in the user area
  that are multiples of 4, but the PTRACE_PEEKUSER interface only allows
  accessing aligned 8-byte blocks in the user area.  Instead, we use a s390
  specific ptrace interface PTRACE_PEEKUSR_AREA / PTRACE_POKEUSR_AREA that
  allows accessing a whole block of the user area in one go, so in effect
  allowing to treat parts of the user area as register sets.

- SystemZ hardware does not provide any means to implement read watchpoints,
  only write watchpoints.  In fact, we can only support a *single* write
  watchpoint (but this can span a range of arbitrary size).  In LLDB this
  means we support only a single watchpoint.  I've set all test cases that
  require read watchpoints (or multiple watchpoints) to expected failure
  on the platform.  [ Note that there were two test cases that install
  a read/write watchpoint even though they nowhere rely on the "read"
  property.  I've changed those to simply use plain write watchpoints. ]

Sean Callanan 863fab69a2 Expose top-level Clang expressions via the command line and the API.
Top-level Clang expressions are expressions that act as new translation units,
and define their own symbols.  They do not have function wrappers like regular
expressions do, and declarations are persistent regardless of use of the dollar
sign in identifiers.  Names defined by these are given priority over all other
symbol lookups.

This patch adds a new expression option, '-p' or '--top-level,' which controls
whether the expression is treated this way.  It also adds a flag controlling 
this to SBExpressionOptions so that this API is usable externally.  It also adds
a test that validates that this works.  (The test requires a fix to the Clang
AST importer which I will be committing shortly.)

Stephane Sezer 65fd8f4345 Fix FILE * leak in Python API
Summary:
This fixes a leak introduced by some of these changes:

The changes made in these patches result in leaking the FILE* passed
to SetImmediateOutputFile. GetStream() will dup() the fd held by the
python caller and create a new FILE*. It will then pass this FILE*
to SetImmediateOutputFile, which always uses the flag
transfer_ownership=false when it creates a File from the FILE*.

Since transfer_ownership is false, the lldb File destructor will not
close the underlying FILE*. Because this FILE* came from a dup-ed fd,
it will also not be closed when the python caller closes its file.

Leaking the FILE* causes issues if the same file is used multiple times
by different python callers during the same lldb run, even if these
callers open and close the python file properly, as you can end up
with issues due to multiple buffered writes to the same file.

Jim Ingham a1e541bf9f Use Clang's FixItHints to correct expressions with "trivial" mistakes (e.g. "." for "->".)
This feature is controlled by an expression command option, a target property and the
SBExpressionOptions setting.  FixIt's are only applied to UserExpressions, not UtilityFunctions,
those you have to get right when you make them.

This is just a first stage.  At present the fixits are applied silently.  The next step
is to tell the user about the applied fixit.

Kuba Brecka 6a83143650 Add ThreadSanitizer debugging support.
This patch adds ThreadSanitizer support into LLDB:
- Adding a new InstrumentationRuntime plugin, ThreadSanitizerRuntime, in the same way ASan is implemented.
- A breakpoint stops in `__tsan_on_report`, then we extract all sorts of information by evaluating an expression. We then populate this into StopReasonExtendedInfo.
- SBThread gets a new API, SBThread::GetStopReasonExtendedBacktraces(), which returns TSan’s backtraces in the form of regular SBThreads. Non-TSan stop reasons return an empty collection.
- Added some test cases.

to each other.  This should remove some infrequent teardown crashes when the
listener is not the debugger's listener.

Processes now need to take a ListenerSP, not a Listener&.

This required changing over the Process plugin class constructors to take a ListenerSP, instead
of a Listener&.   Other than that there should be no functional change.

Zachary Turner 74e08ca05c Add support for reading line tables from PDB files.
PDB is Microsoft's debug information format, and although we
cannot yet generate it, we still must be able to consume it.
Reason for this is that debug information for system libraries
(e.g. kernel32, C Runtime Library, etc) only have debug info
in PDB format, so in order to be able to support debugging
of system code, we must support it.

Currently this code should compile on every platform, but on
non-Windows platforms the PDB plugin will return 0 capabilities,
meaning that for now PDB is only supported on Windows.  This
may change in the future, but the API is designed in such a way
that this will require few (if any) changes on the LLDB side.
In the future we can just flip a switch and everything will
work.

This patch only adds support for line tables.  It does not return
information about functions, types, global variables, or anything
else.  This functionality will be added in a followup patch.

Jason Molenda 878ae01889 This patch stops lldb from loading a .lldbinit file from the current
working directory by default -- a typical security problem that we
need to be more conservative about.

It adds a new target setting, target.load-cwd-lldbinit which may
be true (always read $cwd/.lldbinit), false (never read $cwd/.lldbinit)
or warn (warn if there is a $cwd/.lldbinit and don't read it).  The
default is set to warn.  If this is met with unhappiness, we can look
at changing the default to true (to match current behavior) on a 
different platform.

This does not affect reading of ~/.lldbinit - that will still be read,
as before.  If you run lldb in your home directory, it will not warn
about the presence of a .lldbinit file there.

I had to add two SB API - SBHostOS::GetUserHomeDirectory and 
SBFileSpec::AppendPathComponent - for the lldb driver code to be
able to get the home directory path in an OS neutral manner.

The warning text is

There is a .lldbinit file in the current directory which is not being read.
To silence this warning without sourcing in the local .lldbinit,
add the following to the lldbinit file in your home directory:
    settings set target.load-cwd-lldbinit false
To allow lldb to source .lldbinit files in the current working directory,
set the value of this variable to true.  Only do so if you understand and
accept the security risk.

Greg Clayton ae088e52f3 Now that SymbolFileDWARF supports having types in completely separate .pcm file with "-fmodules -gmodules", each SymbolFileDWARF can reference module DWARF info by looking in other DWARF files. Then if you have 1000 .o files that each reference one or more .pcm files in their debug info, a simple Module::FindTypes(...) call can end up searching the same .pcm file over and over and over. Now all internal FindTypes methods in classes (ModuleList, Module, SymbolFile) now take an extra argument:
llvm::DenseSet<lldb_private::SymbolFile *> &searched_symbol_files
    
Each time a SymbolFile::FindTypes() is called, it needs to check the searched_symbol_files list to make sure it hasn't already been asked to find the type and return immediately if it has been checked. This will stop circular dependencies from also crashing LLDB during type queries. 

This has proven to be an issue when debugging large applications on MacOSX that use DWARF in .o files.

Tamas Berghammer 4fbd67ac11 Add a new option to Platform::LoadImage to install the image
This change introduce 3 different working mode for Platform::LoadImage
depending on the file specs specified.
* If only a remote file is specified then the remote file is loaded on
  the target (same behavior as before)
* If only a local file is specified then the local file is installed to
  the current working directory and then loaded from there.
* If both local and remote file is specified then the local file is
  installed to the specified location and then loaded from there.

The same options are exposed on the SB API with a new method LoadImage
method while the old signature presers its meaning.

On the command line the installation of the shared library can be specified
with the "--install" option of "process load".

Fixed a crash that would happen if you tried to get the name of a constructor or destructor by calling "getDeclName()" instead of calling getName() (which would assert and crash).

Jim Ingham 0fcdac363c Make the language specifier to "break set" actually filter the names by their language. So for
instance:

break set -l c++ -r Name

will only break on C++ symbols that match Name, not ObjC or plain C symbols.  This also works
for "break set -n" and there are SB API's to pass this as well.

Dawn Perchik 8826519e2a Summary provider for char.
This patch enables type summary for 'char' type. Given:
    char c = 'h';
Before this patch, c evaluates as:
    (char) $0 = 'h'
After this patch, we get:
    (char) $0 = 104 'h'
This change allows the formatting of character types in MI to be removed
and replaced with that in lldb, and can be useful when evaluating
non-printable characters.

Siva Chandra 9ac7a6c51f [SBValue] Add a method GetNumChildren(uint32_t max)
Summary:
Along with this, support for an optional argument to the "num_children"
method of a Python synthetic child provider has also been added. These have
been added with the following use case in mind:

Synthetic child providers currently have a method "has_children" and
"num_children". While the former is good enough to know if there are
children, it does not give any insight into how many children there are.
Though the latter serves this purpose, calculating the number for children
of a data structure could be an O(N) operation if the data structure has N
children. The new method added in this change provide a middle ground.
One can call GetNumChildren(K) to know if a child exists at an index K
which can be as large as the callers tolerance can be. If the caller wants
to know about children beyond K, it can make an other call with 2K. If the
synthetic child provider maintains state about it counting till K
previosly, then the next call is only an O(K) operation. Infact, all
calls made progressively with steps of K will be O(K) operations.

This makes LLDB launch and create a REPL, specifying no target so that the REPL
can create one for itself.  Also added the "--repl-language" option, which
specifies the language to use.  Plumbed the relevant arguments and errors

Todd Fiala d6f840609b cmake: provide flag that enables 'log enable --stack' to provide useful file/function info on POSIX systems
Adding the following flag to a cmake line:
-DLLDB_EXPORT_ALL_SYMBOLS=TRUE

will cause all symbols to be exported from liblldb.  This enables the llvm
backtrace mechanism to see and report backtrace symbols properly when using
(lldb) log enable --stack ...

Prior to this change, only the SB API symbols would show up on Linux and other
systems that use a public-symbols-based backtrace lookup mechanism.

log enable --stack ... is a very handy, quick way to understand the flow
of how some log lines are getting hit within lldb without having to hook
up a top-level debugger over your current debug session.

Bruce Mitchener 6ec5d61bda Fix handling of LLDB_VERS_GENERATED_FILE.
Summary:
This is Darwin only.

The symbol defined by ${LLDB_VERS_GENERATED_FILE} is used by
source/lldb.cpp, so anything that uses lldb.cpp (which is in
lldbBase) should also have the generated symbol. This means
that the entire process can be centralized within source/CMakeLists.txt
where lldbBase is constructed.

Additionally, the custom command should have dependencies on the
project file as well as the generation script so that if either
changes, the version file is correctly re-generated and everything
is re-linked appropriately.

* cmake/LLDBDependencies.cmake: Remove everything related to
  the generated version file from here.

* source/CMakeLists.txt: On Darwin, add the generated version
  file to the sources that make up lldbBase.  Also, create a
  custom target and make lldbBase depend on it to re-generate
  the generated file as needed.

* source/API/CMakeLists.txt: Don't need to build the generated
  version file here or use it to control linking against swig_wrapper.

* tools/lldb-server/CMakeLists.txt: Likewise.

Dawn Perchik 74b8f4cbdf [lldb-mi] Fix evaluation of strings containing characters from non-ascii range
If a string contained characters outside the ASCII range, lldb-mi would
print them as hexadecimal codes.  This patch fixes this behaviour by
converting to UTF-8 instead, by having lldb-mi use registered type
summary providers, when they are available.  This patch also fixes
incorrect evaluation of some composite types, like std::string, by
having them use a type registered type summary provider.

Greg Clayton 56939cb310 TypeSystem is now a plugin interface and removed any "ClangASTContext &Class::GetClangASTContext()" functions.
This cleans up type systems to be more pluggable. Prior to this we had issues:
- Module, SymbolFile, and many others has "ClangASTContext &GetClangASTContext()" functions. All have been switched over to use "TypeSystem *GetTypeSystemForLanguage()"
- Cleaned up any places that were using the GetClangASTContext() functions to use TypeSystem
- Cleaned up Module so that it no longer has dedicated type system member variables:

- Fixed code in Type.h to not request the full type for a type for no good reason, just request the forward type and let the type expand as needed

Jim Ingham 151c032c86 This patch makes Clang-independent base classes for all the expression types that lldb currently vends.
Before we had:

ClangFunction
ClangUtilityFunction
ClangUserExpression

and code all over in lldb that explicitly made Clang-based expressions. This patch adds an Expression 
base class, and three pure virtual implementations for the Expression kinds:

FunctionCaller
UtilityFunction
UserExpression

You can request one of these expression types from the Target using the Get<ExpressionType>ForLanguage. 
The Target will then consult all the registered TypeSystem plugins, and if the type system that matches 
the language can make an expression of that kind, it will do so and return it.

Because all of the real expression types need to communicate with their ExpressionParser in a uniform way, 
I also added a ExpressionTypeSystemHelper class that expressions generically can vend, and a ClangExpressionHelper 
that encapsulates the operations that the ClangExpressionParser needs to perform on the ClangExpression types. 
Then each of the Clang* expression kinds constructs the appropriate helper to do what it needs.

The patch also fixes a wart in the UtilityFunction that to use it you had to create a parallel FunctionCaller 
to actually call the function made by the UtilityFunction. Now the UtilityFunction can be asked to vend a 
FunctionCaller that will run its function. This cleaned up a lot of boiler plate code using UtilityFunctions.

Note, in this patch all the expression types explicitly depend on the LLVM JIT and IR, and all the common 
JIT running code is in the FunctionCaller etc base classes. At some point we could also abstract that dependency 
but I don't see us adding another back end in the near term, so I'll leave that exercise till it is actually necessary.

It is required because of the following edge case on arm:

bx <addr>   Non-tail call in a no return function
[data-pool] Marked with $d mapping symbol

The return address of the function call will point to the data pool but
we have to treat it as code so the StackFrame can calculate the symbols
correctly.

Bruce Mitchener 3921fc7de7 Only export public symbols with the cmake build.
Summary:
This also moves the xcode support files to be near or the same
as the ones used for cmake.

The source/API/liblldb.xcodes.exports differs from the
source/API/liblldb.exports in that one contains the actual
symbol names (_ prefixed) while the other contains the symbol
names as they are in the code. The liblldb.exports file is
preprocessed by the cmake scripts into the correct per-platform
file needed (like a linker script on Linux).

This is not enabled on Windows as Windows doesn't use the same
name mangling and so it won't be valid there. Also, this is handled
already in a different way on Windows (via dll exports).

Create a new "lldb_private::CompilerDeclContext" class that will replace all direct uses of "clang::DeclContext" when used in compiler agnostic code, yet still allow for conversion to clang::DeclContext subclasses by clang specific code. This completes the abstraction of type parsing by removing all "clang::" references from the SymbolFileDWARF. The new "lldb_private::CompilerDeclContext" class abstracts decl contexts found in compiler type systems so they can be used in internal API calls. The TypeSystem is required to support CompilerDeclContexts with new pure virtual functions that start with "DeclContext" in the member function names. Converted all code that used lldb_private::ClangNamespaceDecl over to use the new CompilerDeclContext class and removed the ClangNamespaceDecl.cpp and ClangNamespaceDecl.h files.

Removed direct use of clang APIs from SBType and now use the abstract type systems to correctly explore types.

Bulk renames for things that used to return a ClangASTType which is now CompilerType:

    "Type::GetClangFullType()" to "Type::GetFullCompilerType()"
    "Type::GetClangLayoutType()" to "Type::GetLayoutCompilerType()"
    "Type::GetClangForwardType()" to "Type::GetForwardCompilerType()"
    "Value::GetClangType()" to "Value::GetCompilerType()"
    "Value::SetClangType (const CompilerType &)" to "Value::SetCompilerType (const CompilerType &)"
    "ValueObject::GetClangType ()" to "ValueObject::GetCompilerType()"
    many more renames that are similar.

Zachary Turner 2c1f46dcc6 Convert the ScriptInterpreter system to a plugin-based one.
Previously embedded interpreters were handled as ad-hoc source
files compiled into source/Interpreter.  This made it hard to
disable a specific interpreter, or to add support for other
interpreters and allow the developer to choose which interpreter(s)
were enabled for a particular build.

This patch converts script interpreters over to a plugin-based system.
Script interpreters now live in source/Plugins/ScriptInterpreter, and
the canonical LLDB interpreter, ScriptInterpreterPython, is moved there
as well.

Any new code interfacing with the Python C API must live in this location
from here on out.  Additionally, generic code should never need to
reference or make assumptions about the presence of a specific interpreter
going forward.

Jason Molenda 6ab659a922 First part of an attempt to indicate to the user when they are
debugging optimized code.  Adds new methods on Function/SBFunction
to query whether a given function is optimized.  Adds a new
function.is-optimized format entity and changes the default 
frame-format to append "[opt]" if the function was built with
optimization.

The only indication that a binary was built with optimization
that we have right now is the presence of the DW_AT_APPLE_optimized
attribute (DW_FORM_flag value 1) in the DW_TAG_compile_unit.
The absence of this flag may mean that the compile_unit was not
compiled with optimization, or it may mean that the producer 
does not generate this attribute.

Currently this only works for dSYM debugging.  When we create
the CompileUnit with dwarf-in-.o-file debugging we don't have
the attribute value yet so it's not set.  I need to find the
flag value when we do start to read the .o file DWARF and 
set the CompileUnit's status at that point - but haven't 
done it yet.

I'm also going to add a mechanism for issuing warnings to users
such that they're only issued once in a debug session and 
there is away for users to suppress these warnings altogether
via .lldbinit file settings.  But I want to get this changeset
committed now that it's at a useful state.

Dawn Perchik 23b1decbe7 Add support for specifying a language to use when parsing breakpoints.
Target and breakpoints options were added:
    breakpoint set --language lang --name func
    settings set target.language pascal
These specify the Language to use when interpreting the breakpoint's
expression (note: currently only implemented for breakpoints on
identifiers).  If the breakpoint language is not set, the target.language
setting is used.
This support is required by Pascal, for example, to set breakpoint at 'ns.foo'
for function 'foo' in namespace 'ns'.
Tests on the language were also added to Module::PrepareForFunctionNameLookup
for efficiency.

Stephane Sezer 38a1b7ea58 Move WindowsDYLD to the Plugins/DynamicLoader directory.
Summary:
This commit moves the Windows DyanamicLoader to the common DynamicLoader
directory. This is required to remote debug Windows targets.

This commit also initializes the Windows DYLD plugin in
SystemInitializerCommon (similarly to both POSIX and MacOSX DYLD
plugins) so that we can automatically instantiate this class when
connected to a windows process.

Greg Clayton 358cf1ea30 Resubmitting 240466 after fixing the linux test suite failures.
A few extras were fixed

- Symbol::GetAddress() now returns an Address object, not a reference. There were places where people were accessing the address of a symbol when the symbol's value wasn't an address symbol. On MacOSX, undefined symbols have a value zero and some places where using the symbol's address and getting an absolute address of zero (since an Address object with no section and an m_offset whose value isn't LLDB_INVALID_ADDRESS is considered an absolute address). So fixing this required some changes to make sure people were getting what they expected. 
- Since some places want to access the address as a reference, I added a few new functions to symbol:
    Address &Symbol::GetAddressRef();
    const Address &Symbol::GetAddressRef() const;

Linux test suite passes just fine now.

Pavel Labath b36f917854 Remove old local-only linux debugging code
Summary:
Currently, the local-only path fails about 50% of the tests, which means that: a) nobody is using
it; and b) the remote debugging path is much more stable. This commit removes the local-only
linux debugging code (ProcessLinux) and makes remote-loopback the only way to debug local
applications (the same architecture as OSX). The ProcessPOSIX code is moved to the FreeBSD
directory, which is now the only user of this class. Hopefully, FreeBSD will soon move to the new
architecture as well and then this code can be removed completely.

Test Plan: Test suite passes via remote stub.

Greg Clayton ffb2d44ab9 Reduced packet counts to the remote GDB server where possible.
We have been working on reducing the packet count that is sent between LLDB and the debugserver on MacOSX and iOS. Our approach to this was to reduce the packets required when debugging multiple threads. We currently make one qThreadStopInfoXXXX call (where XXXX is the thread ID in hex) per thread except the thread that stopped with a stop reply packet. In order to implement multiple thread infos in a single reply, we need to use structured data, which means JSON. The new jThreadsInfo packet will attempt to retrieve all thread infos in a single packet. The data is very similar to the stop reply packets, but packaged in JSON and uses JSON arrays where applicable. The JSON output looks like:

It contains an array of dicitionaries with all of the key value pairs that are normally in the stop reply packet. Including the expedited registers. Notice that is also contains expedited memory in the "memory" key. Any values in this memory will get included in a new L1 cache in lldb_private::Process where if a memory read request is made and that memory request fits into one of the L1 memory cache blocks, it will use that memory data. If a memory request fails in the L1 cache, it will fall back to the L2 cache which is the same block sized caching we were using before these changes. This allows a process to expedite memory that you are likely to use and it reduces packet count. On MacOSX with debugserver, we expedite the frame pointer backchain for a thread (up to 256 entries) by reading 2 pointers worth of bytes at the frame pointer (for the previous FP and PC), and follow the backchain. Most backtraces on MacOSX and iOS now don't require us to read any memory!

We will try these packets out and if successful, we should port these to lldb-server in the near future.

Greg Clayton 7d1483f51c Cleanup the code a bit to make it more readable.
Add some if/then to avoid calling a function to get dynamic/synthetic types if we know we aren't going to need to call it.

Avoid calling a function that returns a shared pointer twice: once for testing it and once for assigning it (even though that shared pointer is cached inside the value object), it just makes the code a bit clearer.

Zachary Turner 1124045ac7 Don't #include "lldb-python.h" from anywhere.
Since interaction with the python interpreter is moving towards
being more isolated, we won't be able to include this header from
normal files anymore, all includes of it should be localized to
the python library which will live under source/bindings/API/Python
after a future patch.

None of the files that were including this header actually depended
on it anyway, so it was just a dead include in every single instance.

Greg Clayton 424a5dbc73 Added a new API to SBFrame:
lldb::addr_t SBFrame::GetCFA();

This gets the CFA (call frame address) of the frame so it allows us to take an address that is on the stack and figure out which thread it comes from.

Also modified the heap.py module to be able to find out which variable in a frame's stack frame contains an address. This way when ptr_refs finds a match on the stack, it get then report which variable contains the pointer.

This fixed a current issue with ptr_refs, cstr_refs and malloc_info so that they can work. If expressions define their own types and then return expression results that use those types, those types get copied into the target's AST context so they persist and the expression results can be still printed and used in future expressions. Code was added to the expression parser to copy the context in which types are defined if they are used as the expression results. So in the case of types defined by expressions, they get defined in a lldb_expr function and that function and _all_ of its statements get copied. Many types of statements are not supported in this copy (array subscript, lambdas, etc) so this causes expressions to fail as they can't copy the result types. To work around this issue I have added code that allows expressions to specify an expression specific prefix. Then when you evaluate the expression you can pass the "expr_options" and have types that can be correctly copied out into the target. I added this as a way to work around an issue, but I also think it is nice to be allowed to specify an expression prefix that can be reused by many expressions, so this feature is very useful.

Flags allow features such as not letting the command run if there's no target, or if the process is not stopped, ...
Commands could always check for these things themselves, but having these accessible via flags makes custom commands more consistent with built-in ones

Omair Javaid b78e05fead This patch adds support aarch64-linux-gnu (SysV) abi in lldb.
This code is also an import from MacOSx implementation as SysV abi is
similar to what has been implemented for MacOS but may require a few tweaks.

Jason Molenda ede3193bbd Add a "force_kill" arg to Process::Destroy(). This is needed after
the changes in r233255/r233258.  Normally if lldb attaches to
a running process, when we call Process::Destroy, we want to detach
from the process.  If lldb launched the process itself, ::Destroy
should kill it.

However, if we attach to a process and the driver calls SBProcess::Kill()
(which calls Destroy), we need to kill it even if we didn't launch it
originally.

The force_kill param allows for the SBProcess::Kill method to force the
behavior of Destroy.

Tamas Berghammer d8c338d42f Add single stepping logic for linux arm
Linux arm don't support hardware stepping (neither mismatch
breakpoints). This patch implement signle stepping with doing a software
emulation of the next instruction and then setting a temporary
breakpoint at the address where the thread will stop next.

Colin Riley 5ec532a935 Initial language runtime support for RenderScript.

Zachary Turner e6e2bb3842 Rework LLDB system initialization.
In an effort to reduce binary size for components not wishing to
link against all of LLDB, as well as a parallel effort to reduce
link dependencies on Python, this patch splits out the notion of
LLDB initialization into "full" and "common" initialization.

All code related to initializing the full LLDB suite lives directly
in API now.  Previously it was only referenced from API, but because
it was defined in lldbCore, it would get implicitly linked against
by everything including lldb-server, causing a considerable
increase in binary size.

By moving this to the API layer, it also creates a better layering
for the ongoing effort to make the embedded interpreter replacable
with one from a different language (or even be completely removeable).

One semantic change necessary to get this all working was to remove
the notion of a shared debugger refcount.  The debugger is either
initialized or uninitialized now, and calling Initialize() multiple
times will simply have no effect, while the first Terminate() will
now shut it down no matter how many times Initialize() was called.
This behaves nicely with all of our supported usage patterns though,
and allows us to fix a number of nasty hacks from before.
