Johannes Doerfert 5699d08b79 [Attributor] Use knowledge retained in llvm.assume (operand bundles)
This patch integrates operand bundle llvm.assumes [0] with the
Attributor. Most IRAttributes will now look at uses of the associated
value and if there are llvm.assume operand bundle uses with the right
tag we will check if they are in the must-be-executed-context (around
the context instruction). Droppable users, which is currently only
llvm::assume, are handled special in some places now as well.

Florian Hahn 7caba33907 [ConstantRange] Add initial support for binaryXor.

Tyker 2543567c41 [AssumeBundles] filter usefull attriutes to preserve
Summary:
This patch will filter attributes to only preserve those that are usefull.
In the case of NoAlias it is filtered out not because it isn't usefull
but because it is incorrect to preserve it as it is only valdi for the
duration of the function.

Huihui Zhang 118abf2017 [SVE] Update API ConstantVector::getSplat() to use ElementCount.
Summary:
Support ConstantInt::get() and Constant::getAllOnesValue() for scalable
vector type, this requires ConstantVector::getSplat() to take in 'ElementCount',
instead of 'unsigned' number of element count.

This change is needed for D73753.

Adrian Prantl d5180ea134 Add debug info support for Swift/Clang APINotes.
In order for dsymutil to collect .apinotes files (which capture
attributes such as nullability, Swift import names, and availability),
I want to propose adding an apinotes: field to DIModule that gets
translated into a DW_AT_LLVM_apinotes (path) nested inside
DW_TAG_module. This will be primarily used by LLDB to indirectly
extract the Swift names of Clang declarations that were deserialized
from DWARF.

Adrian Prantl e4e7e44765 Add an SDK attribute to DICompileUnit
This is part of PR44213 https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44213

When importing (system) Clang modules, LLDB needs to know which SDK
(e.g., MacOSX, iPhoneSimulator, ...) they came from. While the sysroot
attribute contains the absolute path to the SDK, this doesn't work
well when the debugger is run on a different machine than the
compiler, and the SDKs are installed in different directories. It thus
makes sense to just store the name of the SDK instead of the absolute
path, so it can be found relative to LLDB.

Reid Kleckner 0c2b09a9b6 [IR] Lazily number instructions for local dominance queries
Essentially, fold OrderedBasicBlock into BasicBlock, and make it
auto-invalidate the instruction ordering when new instructions are
added. Notably, we don't need to invalidate it when removing
instructions, which is helpful when a pass mostly delete dead
instructions rather than transforming them.

The downside is that Instruction grows from 56 bytes to 64 bytes.  The
resulting LLVM code is substantially simpler and automatically handles
invalidation, which makes me think that this is the right speed and size
tradeoff.

The important change is in SymbolTableTraitsImpl.h, where the numbering
is invalidated. Everything else should be straightforward.

We probably want to implement a fancier re-numbering scheme so that
local updates don't invalidate the ordering, but I plan for that to be
future work, maybe for someone else.

Brian Gesiak c30d8f7c91 [IR] Set name when inserting 'llvm::Value*'
Summary:
I noticed a small regression in a toy project of mine after applying
D73835, in which instruction names weren't being set properly. In the
example test case included with this patch,
`llvm::IRBuilderBase::CreateAdd` returns an `llvm::Value *` that is then
passed as an argument to `llvm::IRBuilderBase::Insert`. The overloaded
function that is selected for that call then ignores the `Name`
parameter that is given. This patch addresses that issue.

Reid Kleckner 105642af5e Add PassManagerImpl.h to hide implementation details
ClangBuildAnalyzer results show that a lot of time is spent
instantiating AnalysisManager::getResultImpl across the code base:

**** Templates that took longest to instantiate:
 50445 ms: llvm::AnalysisManager<llvm::Function>::getResultImpl (412 times, avg 122 ms)
 47797 ms: llvm::AnalysisManager<llvm::Function>::getResult<llvm::TargetLibraryAnalysis> (389 times, avg 122 ms)
 46894 ms: std::tie<const unsigned long long, const bool> (2452 times, avg 19 ms)
 43851 ms: llvm::BumpPtrAllocatorImpl<llvm::MallocAllocator, 4096, 4096>::Allocate (3228 times, avg 13 ms)
 33911 ms: std::tie<const unsigned int, const unsigned int, const unsigned int, const unsigned int> (897 times, avg 37 ms)
 33854 ms: std::tie<const unsigned long long, const unsigned long long> (1897 times, avg 17 ms)
 27886 ms: std::basic_string<char, std::char_traits<char>, std::allocator<char> >::basic_string (11156 times, avg 2 ms)

I mentioned this result to @chandlerc, and he suggested this direction.

AnalysisManager is already explicitly instantiated, and getResultImpl
doesn't need to be inlined. Move the definition to an Impl header, and
include that header in files that explicitly instantiate
AnalysisManager. There are only four (real) IR units:
- function
- module
- loop
- cgscc

Looking at a specific transform (ArgumentPromotion.cpp), here are three
compilations before & after this change:

BEFORE:

peak memory: 258.15MB
real: 0m6.297s
peak memory: 257.54MB
real: 0m5.906s
peak memory: 257.47MB
real: 0m6.219s

AFTER:

peak memory: 234.72MB

peak memory: 234.39MB
real: 0m5.469s

The 20MB of memory saved seems real, and the time improvement seems like
it is there.

Benjamin Kramer adcd026838 Make llvm::StringRef to std::string conversions explicit.
This is how it should've been and brings it more in line with
std::string_view. There should be no functional change here.

This is mostly mechanical from a custom clang-tidy check, with a lot of
manual fixups. It uncovers a lot of minor inefficiencies.

This doesn't actually modify StringRef yet, I'll do that in a follow-up.

Nikita Popov ed80c86c88 [PatternMatch] Add m_APInt/m_APFloat matchers accepting undef
The current m_APInt() and m_APFloat() matchers do not accept splats
that include undefs (unlike m_Zero() and other matchers for specific
values). We can't simply change the default behavior, as there are
existing transforms that would not be safe with undefs.

For this reason, I'm introducing new m_APIntAllowUndef() and
m_APFloatAllowUndef() matchers, that allow splats with undefs.
Additionally, m_APIntForbidUndef() and m_APFloatForbidUndef() are
added. These have the same behavior as the existing m_APInt() and
m_APFloat(), but serve as an explicit indication that undefs were
considered and found unsound for this transform. This helps
distinguish them from existing uses of m_APInt() where we do not
know whether undefs can or cannot be allowed without additional review.

The DW_AT_LLVM_sysroot attribute is used for Clang module debug info,
to allow LLDB to import a Clang module from source. Currently it is
part of each DW_TAG_module, however, it is the same for all modules in
a compile unit. It is more efficient and less ambiguous to store it
once in the DW_TAG_compile_unit.

This should have no effect on DWARF consumers other than LLDB.

output. I bugs me that I called the attribute DW_AT_LLVM_isysroot
since the "i" is an artifact of GCC command line option syntax
(-isysroot is in the category of -i options) and doesn't carry any
useful information otherwise.

This attribute only appears in Clang module debug info.

Sanjay Patel 52b44902d0 [IR] fix crash in Constant::isElementWiseEqual() with FP types
We lifted this code from InstCombine for general usage in:
rL369842
...but it's not safe as-is. There are no existing users that can
trigger this bug, but I discovered it via crashing several
regression tests when trying to use it for select folding in
InstSimplify.

ICmp requires (vector) integer types, so give up on anything that's
not integer or FP (pointers and ?) then bitcast the constants
before trying the match. That matches the definition of "equal or
undef" that I was looking for. If someone wants an FP-aware version
of equality (deal with NaN, -0.0), that could be a different mode
or different function.

Sanjay Patel c8a14c2d47 [IR] fix potential crash in Constant::isElementWiseEqual()
There's only one user of this API currently, and it seems
impossible that it would compare values with different types.

But that's not true in general, so we need to make sure the
types are the same.

As denoted by the FIXME comments, we will also crash on FP
values. That's what brought me here, but we can make that a
follow-up patch.

This is an effort to allowing external libraries register their own pass instrumentation during their llvmGetPassPluginInfo() calls.

By exposing this through the added getPIC(), now a pass writer can do something like this:

Reid Kleckner 5d986953c8 [IR] Split out target specific intrinsic enums into separate headers
This has two main effects:
- Optimizes debug info size by saving 221.86 MB of obj file size in a
  Windows optimized+debug build of 'all'. This is 3.03% of 7,332.7MB of
  object file size.
- Incremental step towards decoupling target intrinsics.

The enums are still compact, so adding and removing a single
target-specific intrinsic will trigger a rebuild of all of LLVM.
Assigning distinct target id spaces is potential future work.

The DebugVariable class is a class declared in LiveDebugValues.cpp which

I initially though i will need `APInt::[us]mul_sat()` for these,
but it turned out much simpler to do what `ConstantRange::multiply()`
does - perform multiplication in twice the bitwidth, and then truncate.
Though here we want saturating signed truncation.

Jay Foad 2da4b6e514 [IR] Allow fast math flags on calls with floating point array type.
Summary:
This extends the rules for when a call instruction is deemed to be an
FPMathOperator, which is based on the type of the call (i.e. the return
type of the function being called). Previously we only allowed
floating-point and vector-of-floating-point types. Now we also allow
arrays (nested to any depth) of floating-point and
vector-of-floating-point types.

This was motivated by llpc, the pipeline compiler for AMD GPUs
(https://github.com/GPUOpen-Drivers/llpc). llpc has many math library
functions that operate on vectors, typically represented as <4 x float>,
and some that operate on matrices, typically represented as
[4 x <4 x float>], and it's useful to be able to decorate calls to all
of them with fast math flags.

Kevin P. Neal de79836312 [FPEnv] Teach the IRBuilder about correct use of the strictfp attribute.
The IRBuilder needs to add the strictfp attribute to function
definitions and calls when constrained floating point is enabled.

Since so far all front ends have had to do is flip the constrained
switch, I've made this patch always add the required attributes
when said constrained switch is enabled. This continues to keep
changes to front ends minimal.

Nikita Popov 926dae33ba [ConstantRange] Optimize nowrap region test, remove redundant tests; NFC
Enumerate one less constant range in TestNoWrapRegionExhaustive,
which was unnecessary. This allows us to bump the bit count from
3 to 5 while keeping reasonable timing.

Drop four tests for multiply nowrap regions, as these cover subsets
of the exhaustive test. They do use a wider bitwidth, but I don't
think it's worthwhile to have them additionally now.

This improves readability of Windows path string literals in LLVM IR.
The LLVM assembler has supported \\ in IR strings for a long time, but
the lexer doesn't tolerate escaped quotes, so they have to be printed as

Florian Hahn 5c3bc3c930 [PatternMatch] Make m_Br more flexible, add matchers for BB values.
Currently m_Br only takes references to BasicBlock*, which limits its
flexibility. For example, you have to declare a variable, even if you
ignore the result or you have to have additional checks to make sure the
matched BB matches an expected one.

This patch adds m_BasicBlock and m_SpecificBB matchers, which can be
used like the existing matchers for constants or values.

I also had a look at the existing uses and updated a few. IMO it makes
the code a bit more explicit.

inconsistency such as:

unoptimized conditional code begins life as a phi (based on what I see in clang).
Similarly, I don't expect this patch to do much on its own either because
SimplifyCFG promptly drops the flags when converting to select on a minimal
example like:

But once we have this plumbing in place, we should be able to wire up the FMF
propagation and start solving cases like that.

The change to RecurrenceDescriptor::AddReductionVar() is required to prevent a

FPMathOperator there, so if a phi is not properly annotated, new math
instructions may not be either. Once we fix the propagation in SimplifyCFG, it
may be safe to remove that hack.

of the basic block.

Teresa Johnson 9c27b59cec Change TargetLibraryInfo analysis passes to always require Function
Summary:
This is the first change to enable the TLI to be built per-function so
that -fno-builtin* handling can be migrated to use function attributes.
See discussion on D61634 for background. This is an enabler for fixing
handling of these options for LTO, for example.

This change should not affect behavior, as the provided function is not
yet used to build a specifically per-function TLI, but rather enables
that migration.

Most of the changes were very mechanical, e.g. passing a Function to the
legacy analysis pass's getTLI interface, or in Module level cases,
adding a callback. This is similar to the way the per-function TTI
analysis works.

There was one place where we were looking for builtins but not in the
context of a specific function. See FindCXAAtExit in
lib/Transforms/IPO/GlobalOpt.cpp. I'm somewhat concerned my workaround
could provide the wrong behavior in some corner cases. Suggestions
welcome.

Nick Desaulniers 7a7bba2895 [IR] CallBrInst: scan+update arg list when indirect dest list changes
Summary:
There's an unspoken invariant of callbr that the list of BlockAddress
Constants in the "function args" list match the BasicBlocks in the
"other labels" list. (This invariant is being added to the LangRef in
https://reviews.llvm.org/D67196).

When modifying the any of the indirect destinations of a callbr
instruction (possible jump targets), we need to update the function
arguments if the argument is a BlockAddress whose BasicBlock refers to
the indirect destination BasicBlock being replaced.  Otherwise, many
transforms that modify successors will end up violating that invariant.
A recent change to the arm64 Linux kernel exposed this bug, which
prevents the kernel from booting.

I considered maintaining a mapping from indirect destination BasicBlock
to argument operand BlockAddress, but this ends up being a one to
potentially many (though usually one) mapping.  Also, the list of
arguments to a function (or more typically inline assembly) ends up
being less than 10.  The implementation is significantly simpler to just
rescan the full list of arguments. Because of the one to potentially
many relationship, the full arg list must be scanned (we can't stop at
the first instance).

Cullen Rhodes 2ba5d64a80 [IntrinsicEmitter] Support scalable vectors in intrinsics
Summary:
This patch adds support for scalable vectors in intrinsics, enabling
intrinsics such as the following to be defined:

    declare <vscale x 4 x i32> @llvm.something.nxv4i32(<vscale x 4 x i32>)

Support for this is implemented by defining a new type descriptor for
scalable vectors and adding mangling support for scalable vector types
in the name mangling scheme used by 'any' types in intrinsic signatures.

Tests have been added for IRBuilder to test scalable vectors work as
expected when using intrinsics through this interface. This required
implementing an intrinsic that is explicitly defined with scalable
vectors, e.g.  LLVMType<nxv4i32>, an SVE floating-point convert
intrinsic was used for this.  The behaviour of the overloaded type
LLVMScalarOrSameVectorWidth with scalable vectors is tested using the
existing masked load intrinsic. Also added an .ll test to test the
Verifier catches a bad intrinsic argument when passing a fixed-width
predicate (mask) to the masked.load intrinsic where a scalable is
expected.

Yevgeny Rouban 592f44a7e7 Prepare for making SwitchInstProfUpdateWrapper strict
This patch removes the test part that relates to the non-strict
behavior of SwitchInstProfUpdateWrapper and changes
the assertion to llvm_unreachable() to allow the check in
release builds.
This patch prepares SwitchInstProfUpdateWrapper to become
strict with one line change. That is need to revert it easily
if any failure will arise.

Graham Hunter 957c40db6a Scalable Vector IR Type with further LTO fixes
Reintroduces the scalable vector IR type from D32530, after it was reverted
a couple of times due to increasing chromium LTO build times. This latest
incarnation removes the walk over aggregate types from the verifier entirely,
in favor of rejecting scalable vectors in the isValidElementType methods in
ArrayType and StructType. This removes the 70% degradation observed with
the second repro tarball from PR42210.

Yevgeny Rouban 4f9e68148b Make SwitchInstProfUpdateWrapper safer
While prof branch_weights inconsistencies are being fixed patch
by patch (pass by pass) we need SwitchInstProfUpdateWrapper to
be safe with respect to inconsistent metadata that can come from
passes that have not been fixed yet. See the bug found by @nikic
in https://reviews.llvm.org/D62126.

This patch introduces one more state (called Invalid) to the
wrapper class that allows users to work with the underlying
SwitchInst ignoring the prof metadata changes.

Created a unit test for the SwitchInstProfUpdateWrapper class.

Nikita Popov c061b99c5b [ConstantRange] Add sdiv() support
The implementation is conceptually simple: We separate the LHS and
RHS into positive and negative components and then also compute the
positive and negative components of the result, taking into account
that e.g. only pos/pos and neg/neg will give a positive result.

However, there's one significant complication: SignedMin / -1 is UB
for sdiv, and we can't just ignore it, because the APInt result of
SignedMin would break the sign segregation. Instead we drop SignedMin
or -1 from the corresponding ranges, taking into account some edge
cases with wrapped ranges.

Because of the sign segregation, the implementation ends up being
nearly fully precise even for wrapped ranges (the remaining
imprecision is due to ranges that are both signed and unsigned
wrapping and are divided by a trivial divisor like 1). This means
that the testing cannot just check the signed envelope as we
usually do. Instead we collect all possible results in a bitvector
and construct a better sign wrapped range (than the full envelope).

Note to front-end maintainers: if this causes test failures, it's probably
because the "byval" attribute is printed after attributes without any parameter
after this change.

Nikita Popov d5a403fb80 [ConstantRange] Add srem() support
Add support for srem() to ConstantRange so we can use it in LVI. For
srem the sign of the result matches the sign of the LHS. For the RHS
only the absolute value is important. Apart from that the logic is
like urem.

Just like for urem this is only an approximate implementation. The tests
check a few specific cases and run an exhaustive test for conservative
correctness (but not exactness).

correct. I was thinking of "exact" in terms of the result being
non-approximate. However, the relevant distinction here is whether
the result is

   (makeGuaranteedNoWrapRegion)
 * Smallest range such that:
   Forall Y in Other: Forall X not in Result: X BinOp Y wraps.
   (A hypothetical makeAllowedNoWrapRegion)
 * Both. (makeExactNoWrapRegion)

I'm adding a separate makeExactNoWrapRegion method accepting a
single APInt (same as makeExactICmpRegion) and using it in the
places where the guarantee is relevant.

Add support for uadd_sat and friends to ConstantRange, so we can
handle uadd.sat and friends in LVI. The implementation is forwarding
to the corresponding APInt methods with appropriate bounds.

One thing worth pointing out here is that the handling of wrapping
ranges is not maximally accurate. A simple example is that adding 0
to a wrapped range will return a full range, rather than the original
wrapped range. The tests also only check that the non-wrapping
envelope is correct and minimal.

Nikita Popov 3dc7c7ca31 [ConstantRange] Clarify makeGuaranteedNoWrapRegion() guarantees; NFC
makeGuaranteedNoWrapRegion() is actually makeExactNoWrapRegion() as
long as only one of NUW or NSW is specified. This is not obvious from
the current documentation, and some code seems to think that it is
only exact for single-element ranges. Clarify docs and add tests to
be more confident this really holds.

There are currently no users of makeGuaranteedNoWrapRegion() that
pass both NUW and NSW. I think it would be best to drop support for
this entirely and then rename the function to makeExactNoWrapRegion().

Knowing that the no-wrap region is exact is useful, because we can
backwards-constrain values. What I have in mind in particular is
that LVI should be able to constrain values on edges where the
with.overflow overflow flag is false.

Nikita Popov f38b46ffca [ConstantRange] Add signed/unsigned unionWith()
This extends D59959 to unionWith(), allowing to specify that a
non-wrapping unsigned/signed range is preferred. This is somewhat
less useful than the intersect case, because union operations are
rarer. An example use would the the phi union computed in SCEV.

The implementation is mostly a straightforward use of getPreferredRange(),
but I also had to adjust some <=/< checks to make sure that no ranges with
lower==upper get constructed before they're passed to getPreferredRange(),
as these have additional constraints.

Nikita Popov 4246106aba [ConstantRange] Add unsigned and signed intersection types
The intersection of two ConstantRanges may consist of two disjoint
ranges. As we can only return one range as the result, we need to
return one of the two possible ranges that cover both. Currently the
result is picked based on set size. However, this is not always
optimal: If we're in an unsigned context, we'd prefer to get a large
unsigned range over a small signed range -- the latter effectively
becomes a full set in the unsigned domain.

This revision adds a PreferredRangeType, which can be either Smallest,
Unsigned or Signed. Smallest is the current behavior and Unsigned and
Signed are new variants that prefer not to wrap the unsigned/signed
domain. The new type isn't used anywhere yet (but SCEV will be a good
first user, see D60035).

I've also added some comments to illustrate the various cases in
intersectWith(), which should hopefully make it more obvious what is
going on.

Marcello Maggioni 30eb575811 [ConstantRange] Shl considers full-set shifting to last bit position.
if we do SHL of two 16-bit ranges like [0, 30000) with [1,2) we get
"full-set" instead of what I would have expected [0, 60000) which is
still in the 16-bit unsigned range.

This patch changes the SHL algorithm to allow getting a usable range
even in this case.

Nikita Popov ee9f2ae5b9 [ConstantRangeTest] Add exhaustive intersectWith() test
Add a test that checks the intersectWith() implementation against
all 4-bit range pairs. The test uses a more explicit way of
calculating the possible intersections, and checks that the right
one is picked out according to the smallest set heuristic.

This is in preparation for introducing intersectWith() variants that
use different heuristics to pick an intersection range, if there are
multiple possibilities.

Nikita Popov 7b4e9a1c7a [ConstantRange] Add isWrappedSet() and isUpperSignWrapped()
Split off from D59749. This adds isWrappedSet() and
isUpperSignWrapped() set with the same behavior as isSignWrappedSet()
and isUpperWrapped() for the respectively other domain.

The methods isWrappedSet() and isSignWrappedSet() will not consider
ranges of the form [X, Max] == [X, 0) and [X, SignedMax] == [X, SignedMin)
to be wrapping, while isUpperWrapped() and isUpperSignWrapped() will.

Also replace the checks in getUnsignedMin() and friends with method
calls that implement the same logic.

Nikita Popov 6d855ea024 [ConstantRange] Rename isWrappedSet() to isUpperWrapped()
Split out from D59749. The current implementation of isWrappedSet()
doesn't do what it says on the tin, and treats ranges like
[X, Max] as wrapping, because they are represented as [X, 0) when
using half-inclusive ranges. This also makes it inconsistent with
the semantics of isSignWrappedSet().

This patch renames isWrappedSet() to isUpperWrapped(), in preparation
for the introduction of a new isWrappedSet() method with corrected
behavior.

Nikita Popov 977934f00f [ConstantRange] Add getFull() + getEmpty() named constructors; NFC
This adds ConstantRange::getFull(BitWidth) and
ConstantRange::getEmpty(BitWidth) named constructors as more readable
alternatives to the current ConstantRange(BitWidth, /* full */ false)
and similar. Additionally private getFull() and getEmpty() member
functions are added which return a full/empty range with the same bit
width -- these are commonly needed inside ConstantRange.cpp.

The IsFullSet argument in the ConstantRange(BitWidth, IsFullSet)
constructor is now mandatory for the few usages that still make use of it.

Fedor Sergeev ec74378e93 [Legacy][TimePasses] allow -time-passes reporting into a custom stream
As a followup to newpm -time-passes fix (D59366), now adding a similar
functionality to legacy time-passes.

Enhancing llvm::reportAndResetTimings to accept an optional stream
for reporting output. By default it still reports into the stream created
by CreateInfoOutputFile (-info-output-file).

Also fixing to actually reset after printing as declared.

Fedor Sergeev 6a9c2f4f98 [TimePasses] allow -time-passes reporting into a custom stream
TimePassesHandler object (implementation of time-passes for new pass manager)
gains ability to report into a stream customizable per-instance (per pipeline).

Intended use is to specify separate time-passes output stream per each compilation,
setting up TimePasses member of StandardInstrumentation during PassBuilder setup.
That allows to get independent non-overlapping pass-times reports for parallel
independent compilations (in JIT-like setups).

By default it still puts timing reports into the info-output-file stream
(created by CreateInfoOutputFile every time report is requested).

Unit-test added for non-default case, and it also allowed to discover that print() does not work
as declared - it did not reset the timers, leading to yet another report being printed into the default stream.
Fixed print() to actually reset timers according to what was declared in print's comments before.

Nikita Popov e3d3e862de [ConstantRange] Add overflow check helpers
Add functions to ConstantRange that determine whether the
unsigned/signed addition/subtraction of two ConstantRanges
may/always/never overflows. This will allow checking overflow
conditions based on known constant ranges in addition to known bits.

I'm implementing these methods on ConstantRange to allow them to be
unit tested independently of any ValueTracking machinery. The tests
include exhaustive testing on 4-bit ranges, to make sure the result
is both conservatively correct and maximally precise.

The OverflowResult enum is redeclared on ConstantRange, because
I wanted to avoid a dependency in either direction between
ValueTracking.h and ConstantRange.h.

Richard Trieu b37a70f40e Fix IR/Analysis layering issue with OptBisect
OptBisect is in IR due to LLVMContext using it.  However, it uses IR units from
Analysis as well.  This change moves getDescription functions from OptBisect
to their respective IR units.  Generating names for IR units will now be up
to the callers, keeping the Analysis IR units in Analysis.  To prevent
unnecessary string generation, isEnabled function is added so that callers know
when the description needs to be generated.

Original Message:
The FunctionCallee type is effectively a {FunctionType*,Value*} pair,
and is a useful convenience to enable code to continue passing the
result of getOrInsertFunction() through to EmitCall, even once pointer
types lose their pointee-type.

Then:
- update the CallInst/InvokeInst instruction creation functions to
  take a Callee,

The FunctionCallee type is effectively a {FunctionType*,Value*} pair,
and is a useful convenience to enable code to continue passing the

Serge Guelton be88539b85 Replace llvm::isPodLike<...> by llvm::is_trivially_copyable<...>
As noted in https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36651, the specialization for
isPodLike<std::pair<...>> did not match the expectation of
std::is_trivially_copyable which makes the memcpy optimization invalid.

This patch renames the llvm::isPodLike trait into llvm::is_trivially_copyable.
Unfortunately std::is_trivially_copyable is not portable across compiler / STL
versions. So a portable version is provided too.

Note that the following specialization were invalid:

    std::pair<T0, T1>
    llvm::Optional<T>

Tests have been added to assert that former specialization are respected by the
standard usage of llvm::is_trivially_copyable, and that when a decent version
of std::is_trivially_copyable is available, llvm::is_trivially_copyable is
compared to std::is_trivially_copyable.

As of this patch, llvm::Optional is no longer considered trivially copyable,
even if T is. This is to be fixed in a later patch, as it has impact on a
long-running bug (see r347004)

Note that GCC warns about this UB, but this got silented by https://reviews.llvm.org/D50296.

Chandler Carruth 2946cd7010 Update the file headers across all of the LLVM projects in the monorepo
to reflect the new license.

We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header
entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the
Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach.

Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM
project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers
include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed
code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of
our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and
repository.

James Y Knight c0044118c8 Remove TypeBuilder.h, and fix the few locations using it.
This shortcut mechanism for creating types was added 10 years ago, but
has seen almost no uptake since then, neither internally nor in
external projects.

The very small number of characters saved by using it does not seem
worth the mental overhead of an additional type-creation API, so,
delete it.

Mircea Trofin b53eeb6f4c [llvm] API for encoding/decoding DWARF discriminators.
Summary:
Added a pair of APIs for encoding/decoding the 3 components of a DWARF discriminator described in http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2016-October/106532.html: the base discriminator, the duplication factor (useful in profile-guided optimization) and the copy index (used to identify copies of code in cases like loop unrolling)

The encoding packs 3 unsigned values in 32 bits. This CL addresses 2 issues:
- communicates overflow back to the user
- supports encoding all 3 components together. Current APIs assume a sequencing of events. For example, creating a new discriminator based on an existing one by changing the base discriminator was not supported.

Sanjay Patel f5ead29b78 [PatternMatch] Handle undef vectors consistently
This patch fixes the issue noticed in D54532. 
The problem is that cst_pred_ty-based matchers like m_Zero() currently do not match 
scalar undefs (as expected), but *do* match vector undefs. This may lead to optimization 
inconsistencies in rare cases.

There is only one existing test for which output changes, reverting the change from D53205. 
The reason here is that vector fsub undef, %x is no longer matched as an m_FNeg(). While I 
think that the new output is technically worse than the previous one, it is consistent with 
scalar, and I don't think it's really important either way (generally that undef should have 
been folded away prior to reassociation.)

I've also added another test case for this issue based on InstructionSimplify. It took some 
effort to find that one, as in most cases undef folds are either checked first -- and in the 
cases where they aren't it usually happens to not make a difference in the end. This is the 
only case I was able to come up with. Prior to this patch the test case simplified to undef 
in the scalar case, but zeroinitializer in the vector case.

Paul Robinson cda5421016 [DebugInfo] DISubprogram flags get their own flags word. NFC.
This will hold flags specific to subprograms. In the future
we could potentially free up scarce bits in DIFlags by moving
subprogram-specific flags from there to the new flags word.

This patch does not change IR/bitcode formats, that will be
done in a follow-up.

David Blaikie bb279116f2 DebugInfo: Add a CU metadata attribute for use of DWARF ranges base address specifiers
Summary:
Ranges base address specifiers can save a lot of object size in
relocation records especially in optimized builds.

For an optimized self-host build of Clang with split DWARF and debug
info compression in object files, but uncompressed debug info in the
executable, this change produces about 18% smaller object files and 6%
larger executable.

While it would've been nice to turn this on by default, gold's 32 bit
gdb-index support crashes on this input & I don't think there's any
perfect heuristic to implement solely in LLVM that would suffice - so
we'll need a flag one way or another (also possible people might want to
aggressively optimized for executable size that contains debug info
(even with compression this would still come at some cost to executable
size)) - so let's plumb it through.

David Stenberg 5595b1ea28 Allow null-valued function operands in getCalledFunction()
Summary:
Change the dynamic cast in CallBase::getCalledFunction() to allow
null-valued function operands.

This patch fixes a crash that occurred when a funtion operand of a
call instruction was dropped, and later on a metadata-carrying
instruction was printed out. When allocating the metadata slot numbers,
getCalledFunction() would be invoked on the call with the dropped
operand, resulting in a failed non-null assertion in isa<>.

This fixes PR38924, in which a printout in DBCE crashed due to this.

This aligns getCalledFunction() with getCalledValue(), as the latter
allows the operand to be null.

Chandler Carruth e303c87e19 [TI removal] Make `getTerminator()` return a generic `Instruction`.
This removes the primary remaining API producing `TerminatorInst` which
will reduce the rate at which code is introduced trying to use it and
generally make it much easier to remove the remaining APIs across the
codebase.

Also clean up some of the stragglers that the previous mechanical update
of variables missed.

Users of LLVM and out-of-tree code generally will need to update any
explicit variable types to handle this. Replacing `TerminatorInst` with
`Instruction` (or `auto`) almost always works. Most of these edits were
made in prior commits using the perl one-liner:
```
perl -i -ple 's/TerminatorInst(\b.* = .*getTerminator\(\))/Instruction\1/g'
```

This also my break some rare use cases where people overload for both
`Instruction` and `TerminatorInst`, but these should be easily fixed by
removing the `TerminatorInst` overload.

Thomas Lively 16c349d892 [Intrinsic] Add llvm.minimum and llvm.maximum instrinsic functions
Summary:
These new intrinsics have the semantics of the `minimum` and `maximum`
operations specified by the latest draft of IEEE 754-2018. Unlike
llvm.minnum and llvm.maxnum, these new intrinsics propagate NaNs and
always treat -0.0 as less than 0.0. `minimum` and `maximum` lower
directly to the existing `fminnan` and `fmaxnan` ISel DAG nodes. It is
safe to reuse these DAG nodes because before this patch were only
emitted in situations where there were known to be no NaN arguments or
where NaN propagation was correct and there were known to be no zero
arguments. I know of only four backends that lower fminnan and
fmaxnan: WebAssembly, ARM, AArch64, and SystemZ, and each of these
lowers fminnan and fmaxnan to instructions that are compatible with
the IEEE 754-2018 semantics.

Neil Henning 57f5d0a885 [IRBuilder] Fixup CreateIntrinsic to allow specifying Types to Mangle.
The IRBuilder CreateIntrinsic method wouldn't allow you to specify the
types that you wanted the intrinsic to be mangled with. To fix this
I've:

- Added an ArrayRef<Type *> member to both CreateIntrinsic overloads.
- Used that array to pass into the Intrinsic::getDeclaration call.
- Added a CreateUnaryIntrinsic to replace the most common use of
  CreateIntrinsic where the type was auto-deduced from operand 0.
- Added a bunch more unit tests to test Create*Intrinsic calls that
  weren't being tested (including the FMF flag that wasn't checked).

This was suggested as part of the AMDGPU specific atomic optimizer
review (https://reviews.llvm.org/D51969).

  on different IRUnits (e.g. Analyses).

* PassInstrumentationAnalysis analysis is explicitly requested from PassManager through
  usual AnalysisManager::getResult. All pass managers were updated to run that
  to get PassInstrumentation object for instrumentation calls.

* Using tuples/index_sequence getAnalysisResult helper to extract generic AnalysisManager's extra
  args out of a generic PassManager's extra args. This is the only way I was able to explicitly

Adrian Prantl 4ddd059635 Prevent DILocation::getMergedLocation() from creating invalid metadata.
The function's new implementation from r340583 had a bug in it that
could cause an invalid scope to be generated when merging two
DILocations with no common ancestor scope.

This patch detects this situation and picks the scope of the first
location. This is not perfect, because the scope is misleading, but on
the other hand, this will be a line 0 location.

David Blaikie 66cf14d06b DebugInfo: Add metadata support for disabling DWARF pub sections
In cases where the debugger load time is a worthwhile tradeoff (or less
costly - such as loading from a DWP instead of a variety of DWOs
(possibly over a high-latency/distributed filesystem)) against object
file size, it can be reasonable to disable pubnames and corresponding
gdb-index creation in the linker.

A backend-flag version of this was implemented for NVPTX in
D44385/r327994 - which was fine for NVPTX which wouldn't mix-and-match
CUs. Now that it's going to be a user-facing option (likely powered by
"-gno-pubnames", the same as GCC) it should be encoded in the
DICompileUnit so it can vary per-CU.

After this, likely the NVPTX support should be migrated to the metadata
& the previous flag implementation should be removed.

Chijun Sima c72ff1011d [Dominators] Refine the logic of recalculate() in the DomTreeUpdater
Summary:
This patch refines the logic of `recalculate()` in the `DomTreeUpdater` in the following two aspects:
1. Previously, `recalculate()` tests whether there are pending updates/BBs awaiting deletion and then do recalculation under Lazy UpdateStrategy; and do recalculation immediately under Eager UpdateStrategy. (The former behavior is inherited from the `DeferredDominance` class). This is an inconsistency between two strategies and there is no obvious reason to do this. So the behavior is changed to always recalculate available trees when calling `recalculate()`.
2. Fix the issue of when DTU under Lazy UpdateStrategy holds nothing but with BBs awaiting deletion, after calling `recalculate()`, BBs awaiting deletion aren't flushed. An additional unittest is added to cover this case.

Vedant Kumar b572f64212 [DebugInfo] LowerDbgDeclare: Add derefs when handling CallInst users
LowerDbgDeclare inserts a dbg.value before each use of an address
described by a dbg.declare. When inserting a dbg.value before a CallInst
use, however, it fails to append DW_OP_deref to the DIExpression.

The DW_OP_deref is needed to reflect the fact that a dbg.value describes
a source variable directly (as opposed to a dbg.declare, which relies on
pointer indirection).

This patch adds in the DW_OP_deref where needed. This results in the
correct values being shown during a debug session for a program compiled
with ASan and optimizations (see https://reviews.llvm.org/D49520). Note
that ConvertDebugDeclareToDebugValue is already correct -- no changes
there were needed.

One complication is that SelectionDAG is unable to distinguish between
direct and indirect frame-index (FRAMEIX) SDDbgValues. This patch also
fixes this long-standing issue in order to not regress integration tests
relying on the incorrect assumption that all frame-index SDDbgValues are
indirect. This is a necessary fix: the newly-added DW_OP_derefs cannot
be lowered properly otherwise. Basically the fix prevents a direct
SDDbgValue with DIExpression(DW_OP_deref) from being dereferenced twice
by a debugger. There were a handful of tests relying on this incorrect
"FRAMEIX => indirect" assumption which actually had incorrect
DW_AT_locations: these are all fixed up in this patch.

Testing:

- check-llvm, and an end-to-end test using lldb to debug an optimized
  program.
- Existing unit tests for DIExpression::appendToStack fully cover the
  new DIExpression::append utility.
- check-debuginfo (the debug info integration tests)

Chijun Sima 00712cb749 [DomTreeUpdater] Ignore updates when both DT and PDT are nullptrs
Summary:
Previously, when both DT and PDT are nullptrs and the UpdateStrategy is Lazy, DomTreeUpdater still pends updates inside.
After this patch, DomTreeUpdater will ignore all updates from(`applyUpdates()/insertEdge*()/deleteEdge*()`) in this case. (call `delBB()` still pends BasicBlock deletion until a flush event according to the doc).
The behavior of DomTreeUpdater previously documented won't change after the patch.

This patch introduces two helpers to make it easier to ignore debug
intrinsics:

- Instruction::getNextNonDebugInstruction()

This is just like Instruction::getNextNode(), except that it skips debug
info.

- skipDebugInfo(BasicBlock::iterator)

A free function which advances a BasicBlock iterator past any debug
info. This is a no-op when the iterator already points to a non-debug
instruction.

Sanjay Patel 2ca3360b11 [IR] move shuffle mask queries from TTI to ShuffleVectorInst
The optimizer is getting smarter (eg, D47986) about differentiating shuffles 
based on its mask values, so we should make queries on the mask constant 
operand generally available to avoid code duplication.

We'll probably use this soon in the vectorizers and instcombine (D48023 and 
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37806).

We might clean up TTI a bit more once all of its current 'SK_*' options are 
covered.

Roman Tereshin cf88ffaaf9 [DebugInfo] Refactoring DIType::setFlags to DIType::cloneWithFlags, NFC
and using the latter in DIBuilder::createArtificialType and
DIBuilder::createObjectPointerType methods as well as introducing
mirroring DISubprogram::cloneWithFlags and

The primary goal here is to add createArtificialSubprogram to support
a pass downstream while keeping the method consistent with the

Nicola Zaghen d34e60ca85 Rename DEBUG macro to LLVM_DEBUG.
The DEBUG() macro is very generic so it might clash with other projects.
The renaming was done as follows:

- git diff -U0 master | ../clang/tools/clang-format/clang-format-diff.py -i -p1 -style LLVM
- Manual change to APInt
- Manually chage DOCS as regex doesn't match it.

In the transition period the DEBUG() macro is still present and aliased
to the LLVM_DEBUG() one.

Michael Zolotukhin 046da97806 [IDF] Enforce the returned blocks to be sorted.
Summary:
Currently the order of blocks returned by `IDF::calculate` can be
non-deterministic. This was discovered in several attempts to enable
SSAUpdaterBulk for JumpThreading (which led to miscompare in bootstrap between
stage 3 and stage4). Originally, the blocks were put into a priority queue with
a depth level as their key, and this patch adds a DFSIn number as a second key
to specify a deterministic order across blocks from one level.

The solution was suggested by Daniel Berlin.

Shiva Chen 2c864551df [DebugInfo] Add DILabel metadata and intrinsic llvm.dbg.label.
In order to set breakpoints on labels and list source code around
labels, we need collect debug information for labels, i.e., label
name, the function label belong, line number in the file, and the
address label located. In order to keep these information in LLVM
IR and to allow backend to generate debug information correctly.
We create a new kind of metadata for labels, DILabel. The format
of DILabel is

!DILabel(scope: !1, name: "foo", file: !2, line: 3)

We hope to keep debug information as much as possible even the
code is optimized. So, we create a new kind of intrinsic for label
metadata to avoid the metadata is eliminated with basic block.
The intrinsic will keep existing if we keep it from optimized out.
The format of the intrinsic is

llvm.dbg.label(metadata !1)

It has only one argument, that is the DILabel metadata. The
intrinsic will follow the label immediately. Backend could get the
label metadata through the intrinsic's parameter.

We also create DIBuilder API for labels to be used by Frontend.
Frontend could use createLabel() to allocate DILabel objects, and use
insertLabel() to insert llvm.dbg.label intrinsic in LLVM IR.

Adrian Prantl 5f8f34e459 Remove \brief commands from doxygen comments.
We've been running doxygen with the autobrief option for a couple of

redundant. Since they are a visual distraction and we don't want to

Nico Weber 712e8d29c4 s/LLVM_ON_WIN32/_WIN32/, llvm
LLVM_ON_WIN32 is set exactly with MSVC and MinGW (but not Cygwin) in
HandleLLVMOptions.cmake, which is where _WIN32 defined too.  Just use the
default macro instead of a reinvented one.

See thread "Replacing LLVM_ON_WIN32 with just _WIN32" on llvm-dev and cfe-dev.
No intended behavior change.

This moves over all uses of the macro, but doesn't remove the definition
of it in (llvm-)config.h yet.

Roman Lebedev 6959b8e76f [PatternMatch] Stabilize the matching order of commutative matchers
Summary:
Currently, we
1. match `LHS` matcher to the `first` operand of binary operator,
2. and then match `RHS` matcher to the `second` operand of binary operator.
If that does not match, we swap the `LHS` and `RHS` matchers:
1. match `RHS` matcher to the `first` operand of binary operator,
2. and then match `LHS` matcher to the `second` operand of binary operator.

This works ok.
But it complicates writing of commutative matchers, where one would like to match
(`m_Value()`) the value on one side, and use (`m_Specific()`) it on the other side.

This is additionally complicated by the fact that `m_Specific()` stores the `Value *`,
not `Value **`, so it won't work at all out of the box.

The last problem is trivially solved by adding a new `m_c_Specific()` that stores the
`Value **`, not `Value *`. I'm choosing to add a new matcher, not change the existing
one because i guess all the current users are ok with existing behavior,
and this additional pointer indirection may have performance drawbacks.
Also, i'm storing pointer, not reference, because for some mysterious-to-me reason
it did not work with the reference.

The first one appears trivial, too.
Currently, we
1. match `LHS` matcher to the `first` operand of binary operator,
2. and then match `RHS` matcher to the `second` operand of binary operator.
If that does not match, we swap the ~~`LHS` and `RHS` matchers~~ **operands**:

This makes it possible to reverse a filtered range. For example, here's
a way to visit memory accesses in a BasicBlock in reverse order:

      return isa<StoreInst>(&I) || isa<LoadInst>(&I);

    for (auto &MI : MemInsts)

To implement this functionality, I factored out forward iteration
functionality into filter_iterator_base, and added a specialization of
filter_iterator_impl which supports bidirectional iteration. Thanks to
Tim Shen, Zachary Turner, and others for suggesting this design and
providing feedback! This version of the patch supersedes the original
(https://reviews.llvm.org/D45792).

This was motivated by a problem we encountered in D45657: we'd like to
visit the non-debug-info instructions in a BasicBlock in reverse order.

Craig Topper f864250517 [Attributes] Fix a bug in AttributeList::get so it can handle a mix of FunctionIndex and ReturnIndex/arg indices at the same time
The code uses the index of the last element in the sorted array to determine the maximum size needed for the vector. But if the last index is a FunctionIndex(~0), attrIdxToArrayIdx will return 0 and the vector will have size 1. If there are any indices before FunctionIndex, those values would return a value larger than 0 from attrIdxToArrayIdx. Fedor Sergeev d29884c7e6 allow custom OptBisect classes set to LLVMContext
This patch introduces a way to set custom OptPassGate instances to LLVMContext.
A new instance field OptBisector and a new method setOptBisect() are added
to the LLVMContext classes. These changes allow to set a custom OptBisect class
that can make its own decisions on skipping optional passes.

Another important feature of this change is ability to set different instances
of OptPassGate to different LLVMContexts. So the different contexts can be used
independently in several compiling threads of one process.

One unit test is added.

Roman Tereshin d96de6f6ae [MIR] Making MIR Printing, opt -dot-cfg, and -debug printing faster
Value::printAsOperand has been scanning the entire module just to
print a single value as an operand, regardless being asked to print a
type or not at all, and regardless really needing to scan the module
to print a type.

It made some of the users of the method exceptionally slow on large
IR-modules (or large MIR-files with large IR-modules embedded).

This patch defers scanning a module looking for struct types, mostly
numbered struct types, as much as possible, speeding up those users
w/o changing any APIs at all.

See speedup examples below:

Reid Kleckner f8b51c5f90 [IR] Avoid the need to prefix MS C++ symbols with '\01'
Now the Windows mangling modes ('w' and 'x') do not do any mangling for
symbols starting with '?'. This means that clang can stop adding the
hideous '\01' leading escape. This means LLVM debug logs are less likely
to contain ASCII escape characters and it will be easier to copy and
paste MS symbol names from IR.

Finally.

For non-Windows platforms, names starting with '?' still get IR
mangling, so once clang stops escaping MS C++ names, we will get extra
'_' prefixing on MachO. That's fine, since it is currently impossible to
construct a triple that uses the MS C++ ABI in clang and emits macho
object files.

Scott Linder 16c7bdaf32 [DebugInfo] Support DWARF v5 source code embedding extension
In DWARF v5 the Line Number Program Header is extensible, allowing values with
new content types. In this extension a content type is added,
DW_LNCT_LLVM_source, which contains the embedded source code of the file.

Add new optional attribute for !DIFile IR metadata called source which contains
source text. Use this to output the source to the DWARF line table of code
objects. Analogously extend METADATA_FILE in Bitcode and .file directive in ASM
to support optional source.

Teach llvm-dwarfdump and llvm-objdump about the new values. Update the output
format of llvm-dwarfdump to make room for the new attribute on file_names
entries, and support embedded sources for the -source option in llvm-objdump.

This patch is the LLVM part of fixing the issues, described in

* The representation of enumerator values in the debug info metadata now
  contains a boolean flag isUnsigned, which determines how the bits of
  the value are interpreted.
* The DW_TAG_enumeration type DIE now always (for DWARF version >= 3)
  includes a DW_AT_type attribute, which refers to the underlying
  integer type, as suggested in DWARFv4 (5.7 Enumeration Type Entries).
* The debug info metadata for enumeration type contains (in flags)
  indication whether this is a C++11 "fixed enum".
* For C++11 enumeration with a fixed underlying type, the DIE also
  includes the DW_AT_enum_class attribute (for DWARF version >= 4).
* Encoding of enumerator constants uses DW_FORM_sdata for signed values
  and DW_FORM_udata for unsigned values, as suggested by DWARFv4 (7.5.4
  Attribute Encodings).

The changes should be backwards compatible:

* the isUnsigned attribute is optional and defaults to false.
* if the underlying type for the enumeration is not available, the
  enumerator values are considered signed.
* the FixedEnum flag defaults to clear.
* the bitcode format for DIEnumerator stores the unsigned flag bit #1 of
  the first record element, so the format does not change and the zero
  previously stored there is consistent with the false default for
  IsUnsigned.

Adrian Prantl 8c59921ca3 Add DWARF for discriminated unions
n Rust, an enum that carries data in the variants is, essentially, a
discriminated union. Furthermore, the Rust compiler will perform
space optimizations on such enums in some situations. Previously,
DWARF for these constructs was emitted using a hack (a magic field
name); but this approach stopped working when more space optimizations
were added in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/45225.

This patch changes LLVM to allow discriminated unions to be
represented in DWARF. It adds createDiscriminatedUnionType and
createDiscriminatedMemberType to DIBuilder and then arranges for this
to be emitted using DWARF's DW_TAG_variant_part and DW_TAG_variant.

Note that DWARF requires that a discriminated union be represented as
a structure with a variant part. However, as Rust only needs to emit
pure discriminated unions, this is what I chose to expose on
DIBuilder.

Summary:
This patch attempts to fix the DomTree incremental insertion bug found here [[ https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35969 | PR35969 ]] .

When performing an insertion into a piece of unreachable CFG, we may find the same not at different levels. When this happens, the node can turn out to be affected when we find it starting from a node with a lower level in the tree. The level at which we start visitation affects if we consider a node affected or not.

This patch tracks the lowest level at which each node was visited during insertion and allows it to be visited multiple times, if it can cause it to be considered affected.

Daniel Neilson 88dddb8948 [Attributes] Fix crash when attempting to remove alignment from an attribute list/set
Summary:
 Discovered while working on a patch to move alignment in
@llvm.memcpy/move/set from an arg into parameter attributes.

 The current implementations of AttributeSet::removeAttribute() and
AttributeList::removeAttribute crash when attempting to remove the
alignment attribute. Currently, these implementations add the
to-be-removed attributes to an AttrBuilder and then remove
the builder from the list/set. Alignment is special in that it
must be added to a builder with an integer value for the alignment;
attempts to add alignment to a builder without a value is an error.

 This change fixes the removeAttribute implementations for AttributeSet and
AttributeList to make them able to remove the alignment, and other similar,
attributes.

Brian M. Rzycki 9b7ae23256 [JumpThreading] Preservation of DT and LVI across the pass
Summary:
See D37528 for a previous (non-deferred) version of this
patch and its description.

Preserves dominance in a deferred manner using a new class
DeferredDominance. This reduces the performance impact of
updating the DominatorTree at every edge insertion and
deletion. A user may call DDT->flush() within JumpThreading
for an up-to-date DT. This patch currently has one flush()
at the end of runImpl() to ensure DT is preserved across
the pass.

LVI is also preserved to help subsequent passes such as
CorrelatedValuePropagation. LVI is simpler to maintain and
is done immediately (not deferred). The code to perform the
preversation was minimally altered and simply marked as
preserved for the PassManager to be informed.

This extends the analysis available to JumpThreading for
future enhancements such as threading across loop headers.

Adrian Prantl a8e56458e6 Let replaceVTableHolder accept any type.
In Rust, a trait can be implemented for any type, and if a trait
object pointer is used for the type, then a virtual table will be
emitted for that trait/type combination.

We would like debuggers to be able to inspect trait objects, which
requires finding the concrete type associated with a given vtable.

This patch changes LLVM so that any type can be passed to
replaceVTableHolder. This allows the Rust compiler to emit the needed
debug info -- associating a vtable with the concrete type for which it
was emitted.

This is a DWARF extension: DWARF only specifies the meaning of
DW_AT_containing_type in one specific situation. This style of DWARF
extension is routine, though, and LLVM already has one such case for
DW_AT_containing_type.

Sanjay Patel 629c411538 [IR] redefine 'UnsafeAlgebra' / 'reassoc' fast-math-flags and add 'trans' fast-math-flag

...this is a step in cleaning up our fast-math-flags implementation in IR to better match
the capabilities of both clang's user-visible flags and the backend's flags for SDNode.

As proposed in the above threads, we're replacing the 'UnsafeAlgebra' bit (which had the 
'umbrella' meaning that all flags are set) with a new bit that only applies to algebraic 
reassociation - 'AllowReassoc'.

We're also adding a bit to allow approximations for library functions called 'ApproxFunc' 
(this was initially proposed as 'libm' or similar).

...and we're out of bits. 7 bits ought to be enough for anyone, right? :) FWIW, I did 
look at getting this out of SubclassOptionalData via SubclassData (spacious 16-bits), 
but that's apparently already used for other purposes. Also, I don't think we can just 
add a field to FPMathOperator because Operator is not intended to be instantiated. 
We'll defer movement of FMF to another day.

We keep the 'fast' keyword. I thought about removing that, but seeing IR like this:
%f.fast = fadd reassoc nnan ninf nsz arcp contract afn float %op1, %op2
...made me think we want to keep the shortcut synonym.

Finally, this change is binary incompatible with existing IR as seen in the 
compatibility tests. This statement:
"Newer releases can ignore features from older releases, but they cannot miscompile 
them. For example, if nsw is ever replaced with something else, dropping it would be 
a valid way to upgrade the IR."

...provides the flexibility we want to make this change without requiring a new IR 
version. Ie, we're not loosening the FP strictness of existing IR. At worst, we will 
fail to optimize some previously 'fast' code because it's no longer recognized as 
'fast'. This should get fixed as we audit/squash all of the uses of 'isFast()'.

Note: an inter-dependent clang commit to use the new API name should closely follow 
commit.

Adrian Prantl a8b2ddbde4 Move the stripping of invalid debug info from the Verifier to AutoUpgrade.
This came out of a recent discussion on llvm-dev
(https://reviews.llvm.org/D38042). Currently the Verifier will strip
the debug info metadata from a module if it finds the dbeug info to be
malformed. This feature is very valuable since it allows us to improve
the Verifier by making it stricter without breaking bcompatibility,
but arguable the Verifier pass should not be modifying the IR. This
patch moves the stripping of broken debug info into AutoUpgrade
(UpgradeDebugInfo to be precise), which is a much better location for
this since the stripping of malformed (i.e., produced by older, buggy
versions of Clang) is a (harsh) form of AutoUpgrade.

This change is mostly NFC in nature, the one big difference is the
behavior when LLVM module passes are introducing malformed debug
info. Prior to this patch, a NoAsserts build would have printed a
warning and stripped the debug info, after this patch the Verifier
will report a fatal error. I believe this behavior is actually more
desirable anyway.

There is a bug in this implementation where the string value of the
checksum is outputted, instead of the actual hex bytes.  Therefore the
checksum is incorrect, and this prevent pdbs from being loaded by visual
studio.  Revert this until the checksum is emitted correctly.

Summary:
This patch introduces a way of informing the (Post)DominatorTree about multiple CFG updates that happened since the last tree update. This makes performing tree updates much easier, as it internally takes care of applying the updates in lockstep with the (virtual) updates to the CFG, which is done by reverse-applying future CFG updates.

The batch updater is able to remove redundant updates that cancel each other out. In the future, it should be also possible to reorder updates to reduce the amount of work needed to perform the updates.

Jakub Kuderski 638c085d07 [Dominators] Include infinite loops in PostDominatorTree
Summary:
This patch teaches PostDominatorTree about infinite loops. It is built on top of D29705 by @dberlin which includes a very detailed motivation for this change.

What's new is that the patch also teaches the incremental updater how to deal with reverse-unreachable regions and how to properly maintain and verify tree roots. Before that, the incremental algorithm sometimes ended up preserving reverse-unreachable regions after updates that wouldn't appear in the tree if it was constructed from scratch on the same CFG.

This patch makes the following assumptions:
- A sequence of updates should produce the same tree as a recalculating it.
- Any sequence of the same updates should lead to the same tree.
- Siblings and roots are unordered.

The last two properties are essential to efficiently perform batch updates in the future.
When it comes to the first one, we can decide later that the consistency between freshly built tree and an updated one doesn't matter match, as there are many correct ways to pick roots in infinite loops, and to relax this assumption. That should enable us to recalculate postdominators less frequently.

This patch is pretty conservative when it comes to incremental updates on reverse-unreachable regions and ends up recalculating the whole tree in many cases. It should be possible to improve the performance in many cases, if we decide that it's important enough.
That being said, my experiments showed that reverse-unreachable are very rare in the IR emitted by clang when bootstrapping  clang. Here are the statistics I collected by analyzing IR between passes and after each removePredecessor call:

Reid Kleckner 6be1ed05c7 Disable some IR death tests when SEH is available
They hang for me locally. I suspect that there is a use-after-free when
attempting to destroy an LLVMContext after asserting from the middle of
metadata tracking. It doesn't seem worth debugging it further.

Tobias Grosser bd351effcd [unittest] Remove TODO comment which caused concern
Remove the second part of the TODO comment that highlighted an issue with
possibly connecting all nodes to the exit of the CFG. This caused concerns
with Jakub Kuderski regarding its feasability, hence we remove it. Such
points are better discussed outside of CFG. If connecting all nodes makes
sense and what the impact is is currently part of an active review discussion.

Jakub Kuderski d869913f3b [Dominators] Teach LoopDeletion to use the new incremental API
Summary:
This patch makes LoopDeletion use the incremental DominatorTree API.

We modify LoopDeletion to perform the deletion in 5 steps:
1. Create a new dummy edge from the preheader to the exit, by adding a conditional branch.
2. Inform the DomTree about the new edge.
3. Remove the conditional branch and replace it with an unconditional edge to the exit. This removes the edge to the loop header, making it unreachable.
4. Inform the DomTree about the deleted edge.
5. Remove the unreachable block from the function.

Creating the dummy conditional branch is necessary to perform incremental DomTree update.
We should consider using the batch updater when it's ready.

Tobias Grosser 3d0ba4b0a5 [PostDom] document the current handling of infinite loops and unreachables
Summary:
As we are in the process of changing the behavior of how the post-dominator tree
is computed, make sure we have some more test coverage in this area.

Current inconsistencies:

  - Newly unreachable nodes are not added as new roots, in case the PDT is updated
    but not rebuilt.

  - Newly unreachable loops are not added to the CFG at all (neither when
    building from scratch nor when updating the CFG). This is inconsistent with
    the fact that unreachables are added to the PDT, but unreachable loops not.
    On the other side, PDT relationships are not loosened at the moment in
    cases where new unreachable loops are built.

Adrian Prantl d63bfd218b Debug Info: Add a file: field to DIImportedEntity.
DIImportedEntity has a line number, but not a file field. To determine
the decl_line/decl_file we combine the line number from the
DIImportedEntity with the file from the DIImportedEntity's scope. This
does not work correctly when the parent scope is a DINamespace or a
DIModule, both of which do not have a source file.

This patch adds a file field to DIImportedEntity to unambiguously
identify the source location of the using/import declaration.  Most
testcase updates are mechanical, the interesting one is the removal of
the FIXME in test/DebugInfo/Generic/namespace.ll.

Jakub Kuderski b292c22c8d [Dominators] Make IsPostDominator a template parameter
Summary:
DominatorTreeBase used to have IsPostDominators (bool) member to indicate if the tree is a dominator or a postdominator tree. This made it possible to switch between the two 'modes' at runtime, but it isn't used in practice anywhere.

This patch makes IsPostDominator a template argument. This way, it is easier to switch between different algorithms at compile-time based on this argument and design external utilities around it. It also makes it impossible to incidentally assign a postdominator tree to a dominator tree (and vice versa), and to further simplify template code in GenericDominatorTreeConstruction.

Jakub Kuderski eb370adeb6 [Dominators] Add CFGBuilder testing utility
Summary:
This patch introduces a new testing utility for building and modifying CFG -- CFGBuilder. The primary use case for the utility is testing the upcoming incremental dominator tree update API.

The current design provides a simple mechanism of constructing arbitrary graphs and then applying series of updates to them. CFGBuilder takes care of creating empty functions, connecting and disconnecting basic blocks. Under the hood it uses SwitchInst and UnreachableInst.

It will be also possible to create a thin wrapper over CFGBuilder for parsing string input and to hook it up to other textual tools (e.g. opt used with FileCheck).

Philip Pfaffe 730f2f9bb6 [PM] Enable registration of out-of-tree passes with PassBuilder
Summary:
This patch adds a callback registration API to the PassBuilder,
enabling registering out-of-tree passes with it.

Through the Callback API, callers may register callbacks with the
various stages at which passes are added into pass managers, including
parsing of a pass pipeline as well as at extension points within the
default -O pipelines.

Registering utilities like `require<>` and `invalidate<>` needs to be
handled manually by the caller, but a helper is provided.

Additionally, adding passes at pipeline extension points is exposed
through the opt tool. This patch adds a `-passes-ep-X` commandline
option for every extension point X, which opt parses into pipelines
inserted into that extension point.

This patch makes DomTreeNodes keep their level (depth) in the DomTree. By having this information always available, it is possible to speedup and simplify findNearestCommonDominator and certain dominance queries.

In the future, level information will be also needed to perform incremental updates.

My testing doesn't show any noticeable performance differences after applying this patch. There may be some improvements when other passes are thought to use the level information.

Jakub Kuderski 837755cf8b [Dominators] Don't compute DFS InOut numbers eagerly.
Summary:
DFS InOut numbers currently get eagerly computer upon DomTree construction. They are only needed to answer dome dominance queries and they get invalidated by updates and recalculations. Because of that, it is faster in practice to compute them lazily when they are actually needed.

Clang built without this patch takes 6m 45s to boostrap on my machine, and with the patch applied 6m 38s.

The way that LLVM interprets DW_OP_plus in DIExpression nodes is basically that of the DW_OP_plus_uconst operator since LLVM expects an unsigned constant operand. This unnecessarily restricts the DW_OP_plus operator, preventing it from being used to describe the evaluation of runtime values on the expression stack. These patches try to align the semantics of DW_OP_plus and DW_OP_minus with that of the DWARF definition, which pops two elements off the expression stack, performs the operation and pushes the result back on the stack.
 
This is done in three stages:
• The first patch (LLVM) adds support for DW_OP_plus_uconst.
• The second patch (Clang) contains changes all its uses from DW_OP_plus to DW_OP_plus_uconst.
• The third patch (LLVM) changes the semantics of DW_OP_plus and DW_OP_minus to be in line with its DWARF meaning. This patch includes the bitcode upgrade from legacy DIExpressions.

Chandler Carruth 9a67b07398 Re-sort #include lines for unittests. This uses a slightly modified
clang-format (https://reviews.llvm.org/D33932) to keep primary headers
at the top and handle new utility headers like 'gmock' consistently with
other utility headers.

No other change was made. I did no manual edits, all of this is
clang-format.

This should allow other changes to have more clear and focused diffs,
and is especially motivated by moving some headers into more focused
libraries.

Adam Nemet 4ef096b0c2 Handle non-unique edges in edge-dominance
This removes a quadratic behavior in assert-enabled builds.

GVN propagates the equivalence from a condition into the blocks guarded by the
condition.  E.g. for 'if (a == 7) { ... }', 'a' will be replaced in the block
with 7.  It does this by replacing all the uses of 'a' that are dominated by
the true edge.

For a switch with N cases and U uses of the value, this will mean N * U calls
to 'dominates'.  Asserting isSingleEdge in 'dominates' make this N^2 * U
because this function checks for the uniqueness of the edge. I.e. traverses
each edge between the SwitchInst's block and the cases.

The change removes the assert and makes 'dominates' works correctly in the
presence of non-unique edges.

This brings build time down by an order of magnitude for an input that has
~10k cases in a switch statement.

Chandler Carruth 8fa1e37342 [IR] Add an iterator and range accessor for the PHI nodes of a basic
block.

This allows writing much more natural and readable range based for loops
directly over the PHI nodes. It also takes advantage of the same tricks
for terminating the sequence as the hand coded versions.

I've replaced one example of this mostly to showcase the difference and
I've added a unit test to make sure the facilities really work the way
they're intended. I want to use this inside of SimpleLoopUnswitch but it
seems generally nice.

Reid Kleckner 96ab8726a3 [IR] De-virtualize ~Value to save a vptr
Summary:
Implements PR889

Removing the virtual table pointer from Value saves 1% of RSS when doing
LTO of llc on Linux. The impact on time was positive, but too noisy to
conclusively say that performance improved. Here is a link to the

This change makes it invalid to directly delete a Value, User, or
Instruction pointer. Instead, such code can be rewritten to a null check
and a call Value::deleteValue(). Value objects tend to have their
lifetimes managed through iplist, so for the most part, this isn't a big
deal.  However, there are some places where LLVM deletes values, and
those places had to be migrated to deleteValue.  I have also created
llvm::unique_value, which has a custom deleter, so it can be used in
place of std::unique_ptr<Value>.

I had to add the "DerivedUser" Deleter escape hatch for MemorySSA, which
derives from User outside of lib/IR. Code in IR cannot include MemorySSA
headers or call the MemoryAccess object destructors without introducing
a circular dependency, so we need some level of indirection.
Unfortunately, no class derived from User may have any virtual methods,
because adding a virtual method would break User::getHungOffOperands(),
which assumes that it can find the use list immediately prior to the
User object. I've added a static_assert to the appropriate OperandTraits
templates to help people avoid this trap.

Craig Topper c51d05369a [ConstantRange] Fix the early out in ConstantRange::multiply for positive numbers to really do what the comment says
r271020 added an early out to skip the signed multiply portion of ConstantRange::multiply. The comment says we don't need to do signed multiply if the range is only positive numbers, but the implemented check only ensures that the start of the range is positive. It doesn't look at the end of the range.

This patch checks the end of the range instead. Because Upper is one more than the end we have to see if its positive or if its one past the last positive number.

Adrian Prantl 1d12b885b0 Add support for DW_TAG_thrown_type.
For Swift we would like to be able to encode the error types that a
function may throw, so the debugger can display them alongside the
function's return value when finish-ing a function.

DWARF defines DW_TAG_thrown_type (intended to be used for C++ throw()
declarations) that is a perfect fit for this purpose. This patch wires
up support for DW_TAG_thrown_type in LLVM by adding a list of thrown
types to DISubprogram.

To offset the cost of the extra pointer, there is a follow-up patch
that turns DISubprogram into a variable-length node.

Commits were:

The changes assumed pointers are 8 byte aligned on all architectures.

Reid Kleckner 6190625381 Remove buggy 'addAttributes(unsigned, AttrBuilder)' overload
The 'addAttributes(unsigned, AttrBuilder)' overload delegated to 'get'
instead of 'addAttributes'.

Since we can implicitly construct an AttrBuilder from an AttributeSet,
just standardize on AttrBuilder.

Chandler Carruth 927d8e610a [IR] Redesign the case iterator in SwitchInst to actually be an iterator
and to expose a handle to represent the actual case rather than having
the iterator return a reference to itself.

All of this allows the iterator to be used with common STL facilities,
standard algorithms, etc.

Doing this exposed some missing facilities in the iterator facade that
I've fixed and required some work to the actual iterator to fully
support the necessary API.

Adam Nemet cd847a8f30 [IR] Add AllowContract to FastMathFlags
-ffp-contract=fast does not currently work with LTO because it's passed as a
TargetOption to the backend rather than in the IR. This adds it to
FastMathFlags.

Reid Kleckner b518054b87 Rename AttributeSet to AttributeList
Summary:
This class is a list of AttributeSetNodes corresponding the function
prototype of a call or function declaration. This class used to be
called ParamAttrListPtr, then AttrListPtr, then AttributeSet. It is
typically accessed by parameter and return value index, so
"AttributeList" seems like a more intuitive name.

Rename AttributeSetImpl to AttributeListImpl to follow suit.

It's useful to rename this class so that we can rename AttributeSetNode
to AttributeSet later. AttributeSet is the set of attributes that apply
to a single function, argument, or return value.

Reid Kleckner 45707d4d5a Remove getArgumentList() in favor of arg_begin(), args(), etc
Users often call getArgumentList().size(), which is a linear way to get
the number of function arguments. arg_size(), on the other hand, is
constant time.

In general, the fact that arguments are stored in an iplist is an
implementation detail, so I've removed it from the Function interface
and moved all other users to the argument container APIs (arg_begin(),
arg_end(), args(), arg_size()).

Keno Fischer 5e1e59180e [GlobalObject] Fix setSection("")
Summary:
In rL291613, the section name was interned in LLVMContext. However,
this broke the ability to remove the section from a GlobalObject,
because it tried to intern empty strings, which is not allowed.
Fix that and add an appropriate regression test.

Chandler Carruth 942c31474f [PM] Introduce a PoisoningVH as a (more expensive) alternative to
AssertingVH that delays any reported error until the handle is *used*.

This allows data structures to contain handles which become dangling
provided the data structure is cleaned up afterward rather than used for
anything interesting.

The implementation is moderately horrible in part because it works to
leave AssertingVH in place, undisturbed. If at some point there is
consensus that this is simply how AssertingVH should be used, it can be
substantially simplified.

This remains a boring pointer in a non-asserts build as you would
expect. The only place we pay cost is in asserts builds.

I plan to use this as a basis for replacing the asserting VHs that
currently dangle in the new PM until invalidation occurs in both LVI and
SCEV.
