Matthias Braun 115efcd3d1 MachineScheduler: Export function to construct "default" scheduler.
This makes the createGenericSchedLive() function that constructs the
default scheduler available for the public API. This should help when
you want to get a scheduler and the default list of DAG mutations.

This also shrinks the list of default DAG mutations:
{Load|Store}ClusterDAGMutation and MacroFusionDAGMutation are no longer
added by default. Targets can easily add them if they need them. It also
makes it easier for targets to add alternative/custom macrofusion or
clustering mutations while staying with the default
createGenericSchedLive(). It also saves the callback back and forth in
TargetInstrInfo::enableClusterLoads()/enableClusterStores().

Adam Nemet a415a9bde6 [GVN, OptDiag] Include the value that is forwarded in load elimination
This requires some changes to the opt-diag API. Hal and I have
discussed this at the Dev Meeting and came up with a streaming delimiter
(setExtraArgs) to solve this.

Arguments after this delimiter are only included in the optimization
records and not in the remarks printed in the compiler output. (Note,
how in the test the content of the YAML file changes but the remarks on
the compiler output don't.)

This implements the green GVN message with a bug fix at line
http://lab.llvm.org:8080/artifacts/opt-view_test-suite/build/SingleSource/Benchmarks/Dhrystone/CMakeFiles/dry.dir/html/_org_test-suite_SingleSource_Benchmarks_Dhrystone_dry.c.html#L446

The fix is that now we properly include the constant value in the
message: "load of type i32 eliminated in favor of 7"

James Molloy 6bed13c551 [InlineCost] Reduce inline thresholds to compensate for cost changes
In r286814, the algorithm for calculating inline costs changed. This
caused more inlining to take place which is especially apparent
in optsize and minsize modes.

As the cost calculation removed a skewed behaviour (we were inconsistent
about the cost of calls) it isn't possible to update the thresholds to
get exactly the same behaviour as before. However, this threshold change
accounts for the very common case where an inline candidate has no
calls within it. In this case, r286814 would inline around 5-6 more (IR)
instructions.

The changes to -Oz have been heavily benchmarked. The "obvious" value
for the inline threshold at -Oz is zero, but due to inaccuracies in the
inline heuristics this can actually cause code size increases due to
not inlining key thunk functions (that then disappear). Experimentally,
5 was the sweet spot for code size over the test-suite.

For -Os, this change removes the outlier results shown up by green dragon
(http://104.154.54.203/db_default/v4/nts/13248).

Fixes D26848.

Chandler Carruth 0c6efff178 [PM] Remove weird marking of invalidated analyses as "preserved".
This never made a lot of sense. They've been invalidated for one IR unit
but they aren't really preserved in any normal sense. It seemed like it
would be an elegant way of communicating to outer IR units that pass
managers and adaptors had already handled invalidation, but we've since
ended up adding sets that model this more clearly: we're now using
the 'AllAnalysesOn<IRUnitT>' set to handle cases where the trick of
"preserving" invalidated analyses didn't work.

This patch moves to rely on that technique exclusively and removes the
cumbersome API aspect of updating the preserved set when doing
invalidation. This in turn will simplify a *number* of upcoming patches.

This has a side benefit of exposing a number of places where we were
failing to mark the 'AllAnalysesOn<IRUnitT>' set as preserved. This
patch fixes those, and with those fixes shouldn't change any observable
behavior.

Greg Clayton e65439797a Rely on a single DWARF version instead of having two copies
This patch makes AsmPrinter less reliant on DwarfDebug by relying on the DWARF version in the AsmPrinter's MCStreamer's MCContext. This allows us to remove the redundant DWARF version from DwarfDebug. It also lets us change code that used to access the AsmPrinter's DwarfDebug just to get to the DWARF version by changing the DWARF version accessor on AsmPrinter so that it grabs the version from its MCStreamer's MCContext.

Chandler Carruth dab4eae274 [PM] Change the static object whose address is used to uniquely identify
analyses to have a common type which is enforced rather than using
a char object and a `void *` type when used as an identifier.

This has a number of advantages. First, it at least helps some of the
confusion raised in Justin Lebar's code review of why `void *` was being
used everywhere by having a stronger type that connects to documentation
about this.

However, perhaps more importantly, it addresses a serious issue where
the alignment of these pointer-like identifiers was unknown. This made
it hard to use them in pointer-like data structures. We were already
dodging this in dangerous ways to create the "all analyses" entry. In
a subsequent patch I attempted to use these with TinyPtrVector and
things fell apart in a very bad way.

And it isn't just a compile time or type system issue. Worse than that,
the actual alignment of these pointer-like opaque identifiers wasn't
guaranteed to be a useful alignment as they were just characters.

This change introduces a type to use as the "key" object whose address
forms the opaque identifier. This both forces the objects to have proper
alignment, and provides type checking that we get it right everywhere.
It also makes the types somewhat less mysterious than `void *`.

We could go one step further and introduce a truly opaque pointer-like
type to return from the `ID()` static function rather than returning
`AnalysisKey *`, but that didn't seem to be a clear win so this is just
the initial change to get to a reliably typed and aligned object serving
is a key for all the analyses.

Thanks to Richard Smith and Justin Lebar for helping pick plausible
names and avoid making this refactoring many times. =] And thanks to
Sean for the super fast review!

While here, I've tried to move away from the "PassID" nomenclature
entirely as it wasn't really helping and is overloaded with old pass
manager constructs. Now we have IDs for analyses, and key objects whose
address can be used as IDs. Where possible and clear I've shortened this
to just "ID". In a few places I kept "AnalysisID" to make it clear what
was being identified.

PDBFileBuilder supports two different ways to create files.
One is PDBFileBuilder::commit. That function takes a filename

That returns a new PDBFile object.

This patch removes the latter because no one is using it and
in a real life situation we are very unlikely to need it.
Even if you need it, it'd be easy to write a new PDB to a memory
buffer and read it back.

Removing PDBFileBuilder::build enables us to remove other classes

Greg Clayton 6f6e4dbd5d Improve DWARF parsing speed by improving DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration
This patch gets a DWARF parsing speed improvement by having DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration instances know if they have a fixed byte size. If an abbreviation has a fixed byte size that can be calculated given a DWARFUnit, then parsing a DIE becomes two steps: parse ULEB128 abbrev code, and then add constant size to the offset.

This patch also adds a fixed byte size to each DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration::AttributeSpec so that attributes can quickly skip their values if needed without the need to lookup the fixed for size.

Notable improvements:

- DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration::findAttributeIndex() now returns an Optional<uint32_t> instead of a uint32_t and we no longer have to look for the magic -1U return value
- Optional<uint32_t> DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration::findAttributeIndex(dwarf::Attribute attr) const;
- DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration now has a getAttributeValue() function that extracts an attribute value given a DIE offset that takes advantage of the DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration::AttributeSpec::ByteSize
- bool DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration::getAttributeValue(const uint32_t DIEOffset, const dwarf::Attribute Attr, const DWARFUnit &U, DWARFFormValue &FormValue) const;
- A DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration instance can return a fixed byte size for itself so DWARF parsing is faster:
- Optional<size_t> DWARFAbbreviationDeclaration::getFixedAttributesByteSize(const DWARFUnit &U) const;
- Any functions that used to take a "const DWARFUnit *U" that would crash if U was NULL now take a "const DWARFUnit &U" and are only called with a valid DWARFUnit

Kevin Enderby 22fc007809 Add a checkSymbolTable() method to the MachOObjectFile class.
The philosophy of the error checking in libObject for Mach-O files
is that the constructor will check the load commands so for their
tables the offsets and sizes are properly contained in the file.
But there is no checking of the entries of any of the tables.

For the contents of the tables themselves the methods accessing
the contents of the entries return errors as needed. In some
cases this however makes it difficult or cumbersome to produce
a good error message which would include the tool name, file name,
archive member, and name of the architecture of a slice of a universal file
the error occurred in.

So idea is that there will be a method to check a table which can
be called up front before using it allowing a good error message
to be produced before a table is used. And if only verification of
the Mach-O file and its tables are wanted a new possible method
checkAllTables() could be added to call all of the methods to
check all the tables at some time when such methods exist.

The checkSymbolTable() is the first of such methods to check
one of the Mach-O file tables. This method initially will used in
llvm-objdump’s DisassembleMachO() routine before it gets the
section and symbol information. As if there are problems with
the symbol table currently the error is first encountered by the
bool operator() in the SymbolSorter() struct which passed to
std::sort(). In this case there is no context as to the file name
the symbol which results a poor error message:

LLVM ERROR: truncated or malformed object (bad string index: 22 for symbol at index 1)

with the added call to the checkSymbolTable() method the
error message includes the tool name and file name:

llvm-objdump: 'macho-invalid-symbol-strx': truncated or malformed object (bad string table index: 22 past the end of string table, for symbol at index 1)

Teresa Johnson 3624bdf60a Restore "[ThinLTO] Prevent exporting of locals used/defined in module level asm"
This restores the rest of r286297 (part was restored in r286475).
Specifically, it restores the part requiring adding a dependency from
the Analysis to Object library (downstream use changed to correctly
model split BitReader vs BitWriter libraries).

Original description of this part of patch follows:

Module level asm may also contain defs of values. We need to prevent
export of any refs to local values defined in module level asm (e.g. a
ref in normal IR), since that also requires renaming/promotion of the
local. To do that, the summary index builder looks at all values in the
module level asm string that are not marked Weak or Global, which is
exactly the set of locals that are defined. A summary is created for
each of these local defs and flagged as NoRename.

This required adding handling to the BitcodeWriter to look at GV

Teresa Johnson d5033a4576 [ThinLTO] Make inline assembly handling more efficient in summary
Summary:
The change in r285513 to prevent exporting of locals used in
inline asm added all locals in the llvm.used set to the reference
set of functions containing inline asm. Since these locals were marked
NoRename, this automatically prevented importing of the function.

Unfortunately, this caused an explosion in the summary reference lists
in some cases. In my particular example, it happened for a large protocol
buffer generated C++ file, where many of the generated functions
contained an inline asm call. It was exacerbated when doing a ThinLTO
PGO instrumentation build, where the PGO instrumentation included
thousands of private __profd_* values that were added to llvm.used.

We really only need to include a single llvm.used local (NoRename) value
in the reference list of a function containing inline asm to block it
being imported. However, it seems cleaner to add a flag to the summary
that explicitly describes this situation, which is what this patch does.

Summary:
This is the first step towards being able to add the avx512 shift by immediate intrinsics to InstCombineCalls where we aleady support the sse2 and avx2 intrinsics. We need to the unmasked versions so we can avoid having to teach InstCombineCalls that it would need to insert selects sometimes. Instead we'll just add the selects around the new instrinsics in the frontend.

This change should also enable the shift by i32 intrinsics to take a non-constant shift value just like the avx2 and sse intrinsics. This will enable us to fix PR30691 once we update clang.

Next I'll switch clang to use the new builtins. Then we'll come back to the backend and remove/autoupgrade the old intrinsics. Then I'll work on the same series for variable shifts.

Erik Eckstein 4d6fb72aa9 Make the FunctionComparator of the MergeFunctions pass a stand-alone utility.
This is pure refactoring. NFC.

This change moves the FunctionComparator (together with the GlobalNumberState
utility) in to a separate file so that it can be used by other passes.
For example, the SwiftMergeFunctions pass in the Swift compiler:
https://github.com/apple/swift/blob/master/lib/LLVMPasses/LLVMMergeFunctions.cpp

Details of the change:

*) The big part is just moving code out of MergeFunctions.cpp into FunctionComparator.h/cpp
*) Make FunctionComparator member functions protected (instead of private)
   so that a derived comparator class can use them.

Following refactoring helps to share code between the base FunctionComparator
class and a derived class:

*) Add a beginCompare() function
*) Move some basic function property comparisons into a separate function compareSignature()
*) Do the GEP comparison inside cmpOperations() which now has a new
   needToCmpOperands reference parameter

Lang Hames ae1fdddbc4 [ORC] Refactor the ORC RPC utilities to add some new features.
(1) Add support for function key negotiation.

The previous version of the RPC required both sides to maintain the same
enumeration for functions in the API. This means that any version skew between
the client and server would result in communication failure.

With this version of the patch functions (and serializable types) are defined
with string names, and the derived function signature strings are used to
negotiate the actual function keys (which are used for efficient call
serialization). This allows clients to connect to any server that supports a
superset of the API (based on the function signatures it supports).

(2) Add a callAsync primitive.

The callAsync primitive can be used to install a return value handler that will
run as soon as the RPC function's return value is sent back from the remote.

(3) Launch policies for RPC function handlers.

The new addHandler method, which installs handlers for RPC functions, takes two
arguments: (1) the handler itself, and (2) an optional "launch policy". When the
RPC function is called, the launch policy (if present) is invoked to actually
launch the handler. This allows the handler to be spawned on a background
thread, or added to a work list. If no launch policy is used, the handler is run
on the server thread itself. This should only be used for short-running
handlers, or entirely synchronous RPC APIs.

(4) Zero cost cross type serialization.

You can now define serialization from any type to a different "wire" type. For
example, this allows you to call an RPC function that's defined to take a
std::string while passing a StringRef argument. If a serializer from StringRef
to std::string has been defined for the channel type this will be used to
serialize the argument without having to construct a std::string instance.

This allows buffer reference types to be used as arguments to RPC calls without
requiring a copy of the buffer to be made.

Greg Clayton 82f12b149f Clean up DWARFFormValue by reducing duplicated code and removing DWARFFormValue::getFixedFormSizes()
In preparation for a follow on patch that improves DWARF parsing speed, clean up DWARFFormValue so that we have can get the fixed byte size of a form value given a DWARFUnit or given the version, address byte size and dwarf32/64.

This patch cleans up code so that everyone is using one of the new DWARFFormValue functions:

static Optional<uint8_t> DWARFFormValue::getFixedByteSize(dwarf::Form Form, const DWARFUnit *U = nullptr);
static Optional<uint8_t> DWARFFormValue::getFixedByteSize(dwarf::Form Form, uint16_t Version, uint8_t AddrSize, bool Dwarf32);

This patch changes DWARFFormValue::skipValue() to rely on the output of DWARFFormValue::getFixedByteSize(...) instead of duplicating the code in each function. This will reduce the number of changes we need to make to DWARF to fewer places in DWARFFormValue when we add support for new form.

This patch also starts to support DWARF64 so that we can get correct byte sizes for forms that vary according the DWARF 32/64.

To reduce the code duplication a new FormSizeHelper pure virtual class was created that can be created as a FormSizeHelperDWARFUnit when you have a DWARFUnit, or FormSizeHelperManual where you manually specify the DWARF version, address byte size and DWARF32/DWARF64. There is now a single implementation of a function that gets the fixed byte size (instead of two where one took a DWARFUnit and one took the DWARF version, address byte size and DWARFFormat enum) and one function to skip the form values.

This is to address Chandler's concern about sharing the same API header

why we create a single bitcode library in our downstream build of clang,
which led to r286297 being reverted as it added a dependency that
created a cycle only when there is a single bitcode library (not two as
in upstream).

Peter Collingbourne 4c15db45e4 X86: Introduce the "relocImm" ComplexPattern, which represents a relocatable immediate.
A relocatable immediate is either an immediate operand or an operand that
can be relocated by the linker to an immediate, such as a regular symbol
in non-PIC code.

Start using relocImm for 32-bit and 64-bit MOV instructions, and for operands
of type "imm32_su". Remove a number of now-redundant patterns.

Teresa Johnson 6955feebf3 [ThinLTO] Prevent exporting of locals used/defined in module level asm
Summary:
This patch uses the same approach added for inline asm in r285513 to
similarly prevent promotion/renaming of locals used or defined in module
level asm.

All static global values defined in normal IR and used in module level asm
should be included on either the llvm.used or llvm.compiler.used global.
The former were already being flagged as NoRename in the summary, and
I've simply added llvm.compiler.used values to this handling.

This required adding handling to the BitcodeWriter to look at GV
declarations to see if they have a summary (rather than skipping them
all).

Finally, added an assert to IRObjectFile::CollectAsmUndefinedRefs to
ensure that an MCAsmParser is available, otherwise the module asm parse
would silently fail. Initialized the asm parser in the opt tool for use
in testing this fix.

Fixes PR30610.

Peter Collingbourne e2dcf7c3a1 IR, Bitcode: Change bitcode reader to no longer own its memory buffer.
Unique ownership is just one possible ownership pattern for the memory buffer
underlying the bitcode reader. In practice, as this patch shows, ownership can
often reside at a higher level. With the upcoming change to allow multiple
modules in a single bitcode file, it will no longer be appropriate for
modules to generally have unique ownership of their memory buffer.

The C API exposes the ownership relation via the LLVMGetBitcodeModuleInContext
and LLVMGetBitcodeModuleInContext2 functions, so we still need some way for
the module to own the memory buffer. This patch does so by adding an owned
memory buffer field to Module, and using it in a few other places where it
is convenient.

Jordan Rose f1271c8d08 Disallow StringRef assignment from temporary std::strings.
Similar to r283798, this prevents accidentally referring to temporary
storage that goes out of scope by the end of the statement:

  someStringRef = getStringByValue();
  someStringRef = (Twine("-") + otherString).str();

Note that once again the constructor still has this problem:

  StringRef someStringRef = getStringByValue();

because once again we occasionally rely on this in calls:

  takesStringRef(getStringByValue());
  takesStringRef(Twine("-") + otherString);

Still, it's a step.

Bjorn Pettersson 7424c8ccd1 [Reassociate] Skip analysis of dead code to avoid infinite loop.
Summary:
It was detected that the reassociate pass could enter an inifite
loop when analysing dead code. Simply skipping to analyse basic
blocks that are dead avoids such problems (and as a side effect
we avoid spending time on optimising dead code).

The solution is using the same Reverse Post Order ordering of the
basic blocks when doing the optimisations, as when building the
precalculated rank map. A nice side-effect of this solution is
that we now know that we only try to do optimisations for blocks
with ranked instructions.

As proposed on llvm-dev:

This change also fixes an API oddity where BitstreamCursor::Read() would
return zero for the first read past the end of the bitstream, but would
report_fatal_error for subsequent reads. Now we always report_fatal_error
for all reads past the end. Updated clients to check for the end of the
bitstream before reading from it.

I also needed to add padding to the invalid bitcode tests in
test/Bitcode/. This is because the streaming interface was not checking that

Greg Clayton cddab279f6 Modify DWARFFormValue to remember the DWARFUnit that it was decoded with.
Modifying DWARFFormValue to remember the DWARFUnit that it was encoded with can simplify the usage of instances of this class. Previously users would have to try and pass in the same DWARFUnit that was used to decode the form value and there was a possibility that a different DWARFUnit might be supplied to the functions that extract values (strings, CU relative references, addresses) and cause problems. This fixes this potential issue by storing the DWARFUnit inside the DWARFFormValue so that this mistake can't be made. Instances of DWARFFormValue are not stored permanently and are used as temporary values, so the increase in size of an instance of DWARFFormValue isn't a big deal. This makes decoding form values more bullet proof and is a change that will be used by future modifications.

Instead of using the workaround of suppressing the entire index for

This avoids issues from having no summaries despite the module defining

optimization. It will be followed by a subsequent patch to make a
similar fix for local references in module level asm (to fix PR30610).

Simon Pilgrim 75a697a17e [DAGCombiner] (REAPPLIED) Add vector demanded elements support to computeKnownBits
Currently computeKnownBits returns the common known zero/one bits for all elements of vector data, when we may only be interested in one/some of the elements.

This patch adds a DemandedElts argument that allows us to specify the elements we actually care about. The original computeKnownBits implementation calls with a DemandedElts demanding all elements to match current behaviour. Scalar types set this to 1.

The approach was found to be easier than trying to add a per-element known bits solution, for a similar usefulness given the combines where computeKnownBits is typically used.

I've only added support for a few opcodes so far (the ones that have proven straightforward to test), all others will default to demanding all elements but can be updated in due course.

DemandedElts support could similarly be added to computeKnownBitsForTargetNode in a future commit.

This looked like this had caused compile time regressions on some buildbots (and was reverted in rL285381), but appears to have just been a harmless bystander!

Lang Hames a9682caf96 [Error] Unify +Asserts/-Asserts behavior for checked flags in Error/Expected<T>.
(1) Switches to raw pointer and bitmasking operations for Error payload.
(2) Always includes the 'unchecked' bitfield in Expected<T>, even in -Asserts.
(3) Always propagates checked bit status in move-ops for both classes, even in

This should allow debug programs to link against release libraries without
encountering spurious 'unchecked error' terminations.

Error checks still aren't verified in release mode so this doesn't introduce
any new control flow, but it does require new bit-masking ops in release mode
to preserve the flag values during move ops. I expect the overhead to be
minimal, but if we discover any corner cases where it matters we could fix
this by making flag propagation conditional on a new build option.

Programs with very large __llvm_covmap sections may fail to link on
Darwin because because of out-of-range 32-bit RIP relative references.
It isn't possible to work around this by using the large code model
because it isn't supported on Darwin. One solution is to move the
__llvm_covmap section past the end of the __DATA segment.

=== Testing ===

In addition to check-{llvm,clang,profile}, I performed a link test on a
simple object after injecting ~4GB of padding into __llvm_covmap:

  @__llvm_coverage_padding = internal constant [4000000000 x i8] zeroinitializer, section "__LLVM_COV,__llvm_covmap", align 8

(This test is too expensive to check-in.)

=== Backwards Compatibility ===

This patch should not pose any backwards-compatibility concerns. LLVM
is expected to scan all of the sections in a binary for __llvm_covmap,
so changing its segment shouldn't affect anything. I double-checked this
by loading coverage produced by an unpatched compiler with a patched
llvm-cov.

Tim Shen f38e87fa48 [APFloat] Add DoubleAPFloat mode to APFloat. NFC.
Summary:
This patch adds DoubleAPFloat mode to APFloat.

Now, an APFloat with semantics PPCDoubleDouble will have DoubleAPFloat layout
(APFloat.U.Double), which contains two underlying APFloats as
PPCDoubleDoubleImpl and IEEEdouble semantics. Currently the IEEEdouble APFloat
is not used, and the first APFloat behaves exactly the same before this change.

This patch consists of three kinds of logics:
1) Construction and destruction of APFloat. Now the ctors, dtor, assign
   opertors and factory functions construct different underlying layout
   based on the semantics passed in.
2) s/IEEE/getIEEE()/ for normal, lifetime-unrelated computation functions.
   These functions only access Floats[0] in DoubleAPFloat, which is the
   same as today's semantic.
3) A "Double dispatch" function, APFloat::convert. Converting between two
   different layouts requires appropriate logic.

Neither of these change the external behavior.

Kevin Enderby bc5c29a65f Another additional error check for invalid Mach-O files for the
obsolete load commands.

Again the philosophy of the error checking in libObject for
Mach-O files, the idea behind the checking is that we never
will return a Mach-O file out of libObject that contains unknown
things the library code can’t operate on. So known obsolete
load commands will cause a hard error.

Also to make things clear I have added comments to the
values and structures in Support/Mach-O.h and
Support/MachO.def as to what is obsolete.

As noted in a TODO in the code, there may need to be a
non-default mode to allow some unknown values for well
structured Mach-O files with things like unknown load
load commands. So things like using an old lldb on a newer
Mach-O file could still provide some limited functionality.

Simon Pilgrim 01e755eab1 [DAGCombiner] Add vector demanded elements support to computeKnownBits

Michael Ilseman e542804343 Add -strip-nonlinetable-debuginfo capability
This adds a new function to DebugInfo.cpp that takes an llvm::Module
as input and removes all debug info metadata that is not directly
needed for line tables, thus effectively stripping all type and
variable information from the module.

The primary motivation for this feature was the bitcode work flow
(cf. http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2016-June/100643.html
for more background). This is not wired up yet, but will be in
subsequent patches. For testing, the new functionality is exposed to
opt with a -strip-nonlinetable-debuginfo option.

The secondary use-case (and one that works right now!) is as a
reduction pass in bugpoint. I added two new bugpoint options
(-disable-strip-debuginfo and -disable-strip-debug-types) to control
the new features. By default it will first attempt to remove all debug
information, then only the type info, and then proceed to hack at any
remaining MDNodes.

Rafael Espindola 7912110ddc Make the LTO comdat api more symbol table friendly.
In an IR symbol table I would expect the comdats to be represented as:

- A table of strings, one for each comdat name.
- Each symbol has an optional index into that table.

The natural api for accessing that would be

InputFile:
ArrayRef<StringRef> getComdatTable() const;

Symbol:
int getComdatIndex() const;

This patch implements an API as close to that as possible. The
implementation on top of the current IRObjectFile is a bit hackish,
but should map just fine over a symbol table and is very convenient to
use.

Summary:
When SCEVRewriteVisitor traverses the SCEV DAG, it may visit the same SCEV
multiple times if this SCEV is referenced by multiple other SCEVs. This has
exponential time complexity in the worst case. Memoizing the results will
avoid re-visiting the same SCEV. Add a map to save the results, and override
the visit function of SCEVVisitor. Now SCEVRewriteVisitor only visit each
SCEV once and thus returns the same result for the same input SCEV.

This was all using ArrayRef<>s before which presents a problem
when you want to serialize to or deserialize from an actual
PDB stream. An ArrayRef<> is really just a special case of
what can be handled with StreamInterface though (e.g. by using
a ByteStream), so changing this to use StreamInterface allows
us to plug in a PDB stream and get all the record serialization
and deserialization for free on a MappedBlockStream.

Subsequent patches will try to remove TypeTableBuilder and
TypeRecordBuilder in favor of class that operate on
Streams as well, which should allow us to completely merge
the reading and writing codepaths for both types and symbols.

Sanjay Patel 0051efcf97 [Target] remove TargetRecip class; 2nd try
This is a retry of r284495 which was reverted at r284513 due to use-after-scope bugs
caused by faulty usage of StringRef.

This version also renames a pair of functions:
getRecipEstimateDivEnabled()
getRecipEstimateSqrtEnabled()
as suggested by Eric Christopher.

original commit msg:

[Target] remove TargetRecip class; move reciprocal estimate isel functionality to TargetLowering

This is a follow-up to https://reviews.llvm.org/D24816 - where we changed reciprocal estimates to be function attributes
rather than TargetOptions.

This patch is intended to be a structural, but not functional change. By moving all of the
TargetRecip functionality into TargetLowering, we can remove all of the reciprocal estimate
state, shield the callers from the string format implementation, and simplify/localize the
logic needed for a target to enable this.

If a function has a "reciprocal-estimates" attribute, those settings may override the target's
default reciprocal preferences for whatever operation and data type we're trying to optimize.
If there's no attribute string or specific setting for the op/type pair, just use the target
default settings.

As noted earlier, a better solution would be to move the reciprocal estimate settings to IR
instructions and SDNodes rather than function attributes, but that's a multi-step job that
requires infrastructure improvements. I intend to work on that, but it's not clear how long
it will take to get all the pieces in place.

Kevin Enderby 210030ba95 Next set of additional error checks for invalid Mach-O files for the
load commands that use the MachO::thread_command type
but are not used in llvm libObject code but used in llvm tool code.

This includes the LC_UNIXTHREAD and LC_THREAD
load commands.

A quick note about the philosophy of the error checking in
libObject for Mach-O files, the idea behind the checking is
that we never will return a Mach-O file out of libObject that
contains unknown things in the load commands.

To do this the 32-bit ARM and PPC general tread states
needed to be defined as two test case binaries contained
them. If other thread states for other CPUs need to be
added we will do that as needed.

Going forward the LC_MAIN load command is used to
set the entry point in Mach-O executables these days
instead of an LC_UNIXTHREAD as was done in the past.
So today only in core files are LC_THREAD load commands
and thread states usually found.

Other thread states have not yet been defined in
include/Support/MachO.h at this time. But that can be
added as needed with their corresponding checking also
added.

Profile runtime can generate an empty raw profile (when there is no function in

Summary:
std::chrono mostly covers the functionality of llvm::sys::TimeValue and
lldb_private::TimeValue. This header adds a bit of utility functions and
typedefs, which make the usage of the library and porting code from TimeValues
easier.

Rationale:
- TimePoint typedef - precision of system_clock is implementation defined -
  using a well-defined precision helps maintain consistency between platforms,
  makes it interact better with existing TimeValue classes, and avoids cases
  there a time point is implicitly convertible to a specific precision on some
  platforms but not on others.
- system_clock::to_time_t only accepts time_points with the default system
  precision (even though time_t has only second precision on all platforms we
  support). To avoid the need for explicit casts, I have added a toTimeT()
  wrapper function. toTimePoint(time_t) was not strictly necessary, but I have
  added it for symmetry.

Summary:
This pass shrink-wraps a condition to some library calls where the call
result is not used. For example:
   sqrt(val);
 is transformed to
   if (val < 0)
     sqrt(val);
Even if the result of library call is not being used, the compiler cannot
safely delete the call because the function can set errno on error
conditions.
Note in many functions, the error condition solely depends on the incoming
parameter. In this optimization, we can generate the condition can lead to
the errno to shrink-wrap the call. Since the chances of hitting the error
condition is low, the runtime call is effectively eliminated.

These partially dead calls are usually results of C++ abstraction penalty
exposed by inlining. This optimization hits 108 times in 19 C/C++ programs
in SPEC2006.

Zachary Turner 99eef2d736 [Support] Add support for "advanced" number formatting.
raw_ostream has not afforded a lot of flexibility in terms of
how to format numbers when outputting. Wrap this all up into
a set of low level helper functions that can be used to output
numbers with arbitrary precision, alignment, format, etc and
then update raw_ostream to use these functions.

This will be useful for upcoming improvements to llvm's string
formatting libraries, but are still useful independently.

With fix: hex edited the precompiled inputs from another testcases to pass new checks.

Original commit message:

[Object/ELF] - Check that e_shnum is null when e_shoff is.

Spec says (http://www.sco.com/developers/gabi/1998-04-29/ch4.eheader.html) :
e_shnum
This member holds the number of entries in the section header table. Thus the product of e_shentsize and e_shnum gives the section header table's size in bytes. If a file has no section header table, e_shnum holds the value zero.

Revealed using "id_000037,sig_11,src_000015,op_havoc,rep_8" from PR30540

That was the reason of crash in lld on incorrect input file.
Binary reduced using afl-min.

AMDGPU isa only supports 32-bit immediates. In order to access 64-bit address we need to generate 32-bit lo/hi relocations, and do the right math (separate patch). Currently we only generate one 32 bit relocation for lower bits for each access, losing higher bits. Hence we need relocations listed above.

Teresa Johnson 7943fecee8 Add interface to compute number of physical cores on host system
Summary:
For now I have only added support for x86_64 Linux, but other systems
can be added incrementally.

This is to be used for setting the default parallelism for ThinLTO
backends (instead of thread::hardware_concurrency which includes
hyperthreading and is too aggressive). I'll send this as a follow-on
patch, and it will fall back to hardware_concurrency when the new
getHostNumPhysicalCores returns -1 (when not supported for a given
host system).

I also added an interface to MemoryBuffer to force reading a file
as a stream - this is required for /proc/cpuinfo which is a special
file that looks like a normal file but appears to have 0 size.
The existing readers of this file in Host.cpp are reading the first
1024 or so bytes from it, because the necessary info is near the top.
But for the new functionality we need to be able to read the entire
file. I can go back and change the other readers to use the new
getFileAsStream as a follow-on patch since it seems much more robust.

Added a unittest.

Haicheng Wu 1ef17e90b2 Reapply "[LoopUnroll] Use the upper bound of the loop trip count to fullly unroll a loop"
Reappy r284044 after revert in r284051. Krzysztof fixed the error in r284049.

The original summary:

This patch tries to fully unroll loops having break statement like this

for (int i = 0; i < 8; i++) {
    if (a[i] == value) {
        found = true;
        break;
    }
}

GCC can fully unroll such loops, but currently LLVM cannot because LLVM only
supports loops having exact constant trip counts.

The upper bound of the trip count can be obtained from calling
ScalarEvolution::getMaxBackedgeTakenCount(). Part of the patch is the
refactoring work in SCEV to prevent duplicating code.

The feature of using the upper bound is enabled under the same circumstance
when runtime unrolling is enabled since both are used to unroll loops without
knowing the exact constant trip count.
