Aaron Ballman 416b127456 Disable __has_cpp_attribute when not compiling in C++ mode. As this feature test macro only supports C++ style attributes, it doesn't apply to code compiled as C code, and can lead to diagnostics when given a scoped attribute.
This addresses PR23435.

Richard Smith 66a8186ed4 Rename MacroDefinition -> MacroDefinitionRecord, Preprocessor::MacroDefinition -> MacroDefinition.
clang::MacroDefinition now models the currently-defined value of a macro. The
previous MacroDefinition type, which represented a record of a macro definition
directive for a detailed preprocessing record, is now called MacroDefinitionRecord.

Richard Smith ee977933f7 [modules] Add -fmodules-local-submodule-visibility flag.
This flag specifies that the normal visibility rules should be used even for
local submodules (submodules of the currently-being-built module). Thus names
will only be visible if a header / module that declares them has actually been
included / imported, and not merely because a submodule that happened to be
built earlier declared those names. This also removes the need to modularize
bottom-up: textually-included headers will be included into every submodule
that includes them, since their include guards will not leak between modules.

So far, this only governs visibility of macros, not of declarations, so is not
ready for real use yet.

Richard Smith 20e883e59b [modules] Stop trying to fake up a linear MacroDirective history.
Modules builds fundamentally have a non-linear macro history. In the interest
of better source fidelity, represent the macro definition information
faithfully: we have a linear macro directive history within each module, and at
any point we have a unique "latest" local macro directive and a collection of
visible imported directives. This also removes the attendent complexity of
attempting to create a correct MacroDirective history (which we got wrong
in the general case).

No functionality change intended.

Writing 4k of zeros is preferrable to 4k of random memory. Document that. While

index zero. It was writing a literal '0' instead of a null byte at the

Yaron Keren 92e1b62d45 Remove many superfluous SmallString::str() calls.
Now that SmallString is a first-class citizen, most SmallString::str()
calls are not required. This patch removes a whole bunch of them, yet
there are lots more.

There are two use cases where str() is really needed:
1) To use one of StringRef member functions which is not available in
SmallString.
2) To convert to std::string, as StringRef implicitly converts while
SmallString do not. We may wish to change this, but it may introduce
ambiguity.

Ben Langmuir 1f6a32b3e7 Don't load Framework module.map files when searching subdirectories
This would cause frameworks to have spurious "redefinition" errors if
they had both a (legacy) "module.map" and a (new) "module.modulemap" file and we
happened to do a sub-directory search in that directory using a
non-framework include path (e.g. -Ifoo/ -Ffoo/). For migration
purposes it's very handy that the compiler will prefer the new spelling
of the filename and not look at the old one if it doesn't need to.

The warning -Wkeyword-macro now is not issued in patterns that are used

And finally if macro replacement is also a keyword identical to the replaced
one but decorated with leading/trailing underscores:

    #define inline __inline

Warning -Wreserved-id-macro is off by default, it could help catching

stuff in practice. But [macro.names]p2 does disallow defining or undefining
keywords, override and final, and alignas, so keep the warning but move it
into -pedantic.

-Wreserved-id-macro warns on

    #define __need_size_t

motivated by a standard, remove it.

Original commit message:

[modules] Add experimental -fmodule-map-file-home-is-cwd flag to -cc1.

For files named by -fmodule-map-file=, and files found by 'extern module'
directives, this flag specifies that we should resolve filenames relative to
the current working directory rather than relative to the directory in which
the module map file resides. This is aimed at fixing path handling, in

Sean Callanan 8759649013 Modified the Objective-C lexer and parser (only

and pass them to the debugger.

In the preprocessor, accept import declarations
if the debugger is enabled, but don't actually
load the module, just pass the import path on to
the preprocessor callbacks.

In the Objective-C parser, if it sees an import
declaration in statement context (usual for LLDB),
ignore it and return a NullStmt.

Richard Smith 0152e78146 [modules] Add experimental -fmodule-map-file-home-is-cwd flag to -cc1.
For files named by -fmodule-map-file=, and files found by 'extern module'
directives, this flag specifies that we should resolve filenames relative to
the current working directory rather than relative to the directory in which
the module map file resides. This is aimed at fixing path handling, in
particular for relative -I paths, when building modules that represent

Ted Kremenek eeccb30b94 Add support for the static analyzer to synthesize function implementations from external model files.
Currently the analyzer lazily models some functions using 'BodyFarm',
which constructs a fake function implementation that the analyzer
can simulate that approximates the semantics of the function when
it is called. BodyFarm does this by constructing the AST for
such definitions on-the-fly. One strength of BodyFarm
is that all symbols and types referenced by synthesized function
bodies are contextual adapted to the containing translation unit.
The downside is that these ASTs are hardcoded in Clang's own
source code.

A more scalable model is to allow these models to be defined as source
code in separate "model" files and have the analyzer use those
definitions lazily when a function body is needed. Among other things,
it will allow more customization of the analyzer for specific APIs
and platforms.

This patch provides the initial infrastructure for this feature.
It extends BodyFarm to use an abstract API 'CodeInjector' that can be
used to synthesize function bodies. That 'CodeInjector' is
implemented using a new 'ModelInjector' in libFrontend, which lazily
parses a model file and injects the ASTs into the current translation
unit.

Models are currently found by specifying a 'model-path' as an
analyzer option; if no path is specified the CodeInjector is not
used, thus defaulting to the current behavior in the analyzer.

Models currently contain a single function definition, and can
be found by finding the file <function name>.model. This is an
initial starting point for something more rich, but it bootstraps
this feature for future evolution.

This patch was contributed by Gábor Horváth as part of his
Google Summer of Code project.

Some notes:

- This introduces the notion of a "model file" into
FrontendAction and the Preprocessor. This nomenclature
is specific to the static analyzer, but possibly could be
generalized. Essentially these are sources pulled in
  exogenously from the principal translation.

  Preprocessor gets a 'InitializeForModelFile' and
'FinalizeForModelFile' which could possibly be hoisted out
of Preprocessor if Preprocessor exposed a new API to
change the PragmaHandlers and some other internal pieces. This
  can be revisited.

FrontendAction gets a 'isModelParsingAction()' predicate function
used to allow a new FrontendAction to recycle the Preprocessor
and ASTContext. This name could probably be made something
more general (i.e., not tied to 'model files') at the expense
of losing the intent of why it exists. This can be revisited.

- This is a moderate sized patch; it has gone through some amount of
offline code review. Most of the changes to the non-analyzer
parts are fairly small, and would make little sense without
  the analyzer changes.

- Most of the analyzer changes are plumbing, with the interesting
behavior being introduced by ModelInjector.cpp and
  ModelConsumer.cpp.

- The new functionality introduced by this change is off-by-default.
It requires an analyzer config option to enable.

Richard Smith 3be1cb294f Use -Rblah, not -Wblah, to control remark diagnostics. This was always the
intent when we added remark support, but was never implemented in the general
case, because the first -R flags didn't need it. (-Rpass= had special handling
to accomodate its argument.)

-Rno-foo, -Reverything, and -Rno-everything can be used to turn off a remark,
or to turn on or off all remarks. Per discussion on cfe-commits, -Weverything
does not affect remarks, and -Reverything does not affect warnings or errors.

The only "real" -R flag we have right now is -Rmodule-build; that flag is
effectively renamed from -Wmodule-build to -Rmodule-build by this change.

-Wpass and -Wno-pass (and their friends) are also renamed to -Rpass and
-Rno-pass by this change; it's not completely clear whether we intended to have
a -Rpass (with no =pattern), but that is unchanged by this commit, other than
the flag name. The default pattern is effectively one which matches no passes.
In future, we may want to make the default pattern be .*, so that -Reverything
works for -Rpass properly.

Ben Langmuir b537a3a651 Add stopgap option -fmodule-implementation-of <name>
This flag specifies that we are building an implementation file of the
module <name>, preventing importing <name> as a module. This does not
consider this to be the 'current module' for the purposes of doing
modular checks like decluse or non-modular-include warnings, unlike
-fmodule-name.

This is needed as a stopgap until:
1) we can resolve relative includes to a VFS-mapped module (or can
safely import a header textually and as part of a module)

and ideally
2) we can safely do incremental rebuilding when implementation files

Richard Smith e657bbdcbc Reinstate r213348, reverted in r213395, with an additional bug fix and more
thorough tests.

Original commit message:

[modules] Fix macro hiding bug exposed if:

 * A submodule of module A is imported into module B
 * Another submodule of module A that is not imported into B exports a macro
 * Some submodule of module B also exports a definition of the macro, and
happens to be the first submodule of B that imports module A.

In this case, we would incorrectly determine that A's macro redefines B's
macro, and so we don't need to re-export B's macro at all.

This happens with the 'assert' macro in an LLVM self-host. =(

Alp Toker d4a3f0e894 Hide the concept of diagnostic levels from lex, parse and sema
The compilation pipeline doesn't actually need to know about the high-level
concept of diagnostic mappings, and hiding the final computed level presents
several simplifications and other potential benefits.

The only exceptions are opportunistic checks to see whether expensive code
paths can be avoided for diagnostics that are guaranteed to be ignored at a
certain SourceLocation.

This commit formalizes that invariant by introducing and using
DiagnosticsEngine::isIgnored() in place of individual level checks throughout

Nico Weber 5f5b94141c Don't leak MacroArgs when using code completion, PR19688.
MacroArgs are owned by TokenLexer, and when a TokenLexer is destroyed, it'll
call its MacroArgs's destroy() method. destroy() only appends the MacroArg to
Preprocessor's MacroArgCache list, and Preprocessor's destructor then calls
deallocate() on all MacroArgs in that list. This method then ends up freeing
the MacroArgs's memory.

In a code completion context, Parser::cutOffParsing() gets called when a code
completion token is hit, which changes the type of the current token to
tok::eof.  eof tokens aren't always ConsumeToken()ed, so
Preprocessor::HandleEndOfFile() isn't always called, and that function is
responsible for popping the macro stack.

Due to this, Preprocessor::CurTokenLexer can be non-NULL when
~Preprocessor runs. It's a unique_ptr, so it ended up being destructed after
~Preprocessor completed, and its MacroArgs thus got added to the freelist after
the code freeing things on the freelist had already completed. The fix is to
explicitly call reset() before the freelist processing happens. (See the bug
for more notes.)

To differentiate between two modules with the same name, we will
consider the path the module map file that they are defined by* part of
the ‘key’ for looking up the precompiled module (pcm file).
Specifically, this patch renames the precompiled module (pcm) files from
  cache-path/<module hash>/Foo.pcm
to
  cache-path/<module hash>/Foo-<hash of module map path>.pcm

In addition, I’ve taught the ASTReader to re-resolve the names of
imported modules during module loading so that if the header search
context changes between when a module was originally built and when it
is loaded we can rebuild it if necessary. For example, if module A
imports module B

first time:
clang -I /path/to/A -I /path/to/B ...

second time:
clang -I /path/to/A -I /different/path/to/B ...

will now rebuild A as expected.

* in the case of inferred modules, we use the module map file that
allowed the inference, not the __inferred_module.map file, since the
inferred file path is the same for every inferred module.

that A's macro could also be visible through a different path. The rules (as

With this, the number of regressions in libc++'s testsuite when modules are

There were two issues with the original patch that have now been fixed.
1. We were memset'ing over a FileEntry in a test case. After adding a

2. I didn't pass the FileManager into the new compiler instance in

clear the module cache in the test.

Also, I changed the copy constructor for FileEntry, which was memcpy'ing
in a (now) unsafe way.

  - List of targets is added to LLVM_COMMON_DEPENDS.
  - all clang libraries and targets depend on generated headers.

You might wonder this would be regression, but in fact, this is little loss.
  - Almost all of clang libraries depend on tblgen'd files and clang-tblgen.
  - clang-tblgen may cause short stall-out but doesn't cause unconditional rebuild.
  - Each library's dependencies to tblgen'd files might vary along headers' structure.
It made hard to track and update *really optimal* dependencies.

Replace the last incorrect uses and templatize the function to require a

The diagnostic formatter expects well-formed input and has undefined behaviour
with arbitrary input or crafted user strings in source files. Accepting user

can be problematic in long-running sessions or language bindings.

There's been long-standing confusion over the role of these two options. This
commit makes the necessary changes to differentiate them clearly, following up
from r198936.

MicrosoftExt (aka. fms-extensions):
Enable largely unobjectionable Microsoft language extensions to ease
portability. This mode, also supported by gcc, is used for building software
like FreeBSD and Linux kernel extensions that share code with Windows drivers.

MSVCCompat (aka. -fms-compatibility, formerly MicrosoftMode):
Turn on a special mode supporting 'heinous' extensions for drop-in
compatibility with the Microsoft Visual C++ product. Standards-compilant C and
C++ code isn't guaranteed to work in this mode. Implies MicrosoftExt.

Note that full -fms-compatibility mode is currently enabled by default on the
Windows target, which may need tuning to serve as a reasonable default.

Replaces most of the hard-coded diagnostic messages related to expected tokens,

If a header file belonging to a certain module is not found on the
filesystem, that header gets marked as unavailable. Now, the layering
warning (-fmodules-decluse) should still warn about headers of this
module being wrongfully included. Currently, headers belonging to those
modules are just treated as not belonging to modules at all which means
they can be included freely from everywhere.

To implement this (somewhat) cleanly, I have moved most of the layering
checks into the ModuleMap. This will also help with showing FixIts

In order to make the migration to modules easier, it seems to be helpful
to allow a 1:1 mapping between target names of a current build system

characters like "-". ":" and "/", allowing arbitrary quote-escaped
strings seems to be a straightforward option.

After several offline discussions, the precise mechanisms for C++
module names especially regarding submodules and import statements has
yet to be determined. Thus, this patch only enables string literals as
names inside the module map files which can be used by automatic module
import (through #include).

Manuel Klimek 1f76c4e810 Use the same SourceManager for ModuleMaps and compilations.
This allows using virtual file mappings on the original SourceManager to
map in virtual module.map files. Without this patch, the ModuleMap
search will find a module.map file (as the FileEntry exists in the
FileManager), but will be unable to get the content from the
SourceManager (as ModuleMap previously created its own SourceManager).

Two problems needed to be fixed which this patch exposed:

1. Storing the inferred module map
When writing out a module, the ASTWriter stores the names of the files
in the main source manager; when loading the AST again, the ASTReader
errs out if such a file is found missing, unless it is overridden.
Previously CompilerInstance's compileModule method would store the
inferred module map to a temporary file; the problem with this approach
is that now that the module map is handled by the main source manager,
the ASTWriter stores the name of the temporary module map as source to
the compilation; later, when the module is loaded, the temporary file
has already been deleted, which leads to a compilation error. This patch
changes the inferred module map to instead inject a virtual file into
the source manager. This both saves some disk IO, and works with how the
ASTWriter/ASTReader handle overridden source files.

2. Changing test input in test/Modules/Inputs/*
Now that the module map file is handled by the main source manager, the
VerifyDiagnosticConsumer will not ignore diagnostics created while
parsing the module map file. The module test test/Modules/renamed.m uses
-I test/Modules/Inputs and triggers recursive loading of all module maps
in test/Modules/Inputs, some of which had conflicting names, thus
leading errors while parsing the module maps. Those diagnostics already
occur on trunk, but before this patch they would not break the test, as
they were ignored by the VerifyDiagnosticConsumer. This patch thus
changes the module maps that have been recently introduced which broke
the invariant of compatible modules maps in test/Modules/Inputs.

Daniel Jasper 97da9178ce Allow a header to be part of multiple modules.
This patch changes two things:

a) Allow a header to be part of multiple modules. The reasoning is that
in existing codebases that have a module-like build system, the same
headers might be used in several build targets. Simple reasons might be
that they defined different classes that are declared in the same
header. Supporting a header as a part of multiple modules will make the
transistion easier for those cases. A later step in clang can then
determine whether the two modules are actually compatible and can be
merged and error out appropriately. The later check is similar to what
needs to be done for template specializations anyway.

b) Allow modules to be stored in a directory tree separate from the
headers they describe.

Daniel Jasper ba7f2f7110 Module use declarations (II)
Review: http://llvm-reviews.chandlerc.com/D1546.

I have picked up this patch form Lawrence
(http://llvm-reviews.chandlerc.com/D1063) and did a few changes.

From the original change description (updated as appropriate):
This patch adds a check that ensures that modules only use modules they
have so declared. To this end, it adds a statement on intended module
use to the module.map grammar:

  use module-id

A module can then only use headers from other modules if it 'uses' them.
This enforcement is off by default, but may be turned on with the new
option -fmodules-decluse.

When enforcing the module semantics, we also need to consider a source
file part of a module. This is achieved with a compiler option

-fmodule-name=<module-id>.

The compiler at present only applies restrictions to the module directly
being built.

Before this patch, Lex() would recurse whenever the current lexer changed (e.g.
upon entry into a macro). This patch turns the recursion into a loop: the
various lex routines now don't return a token when the current lexer changes,
and at the top level Preprocessor::Lex() now loops until it finds a token.
Normally, the recursion wouldn't end up being very deep, but the recursion depth
can explode in edge cases like a bunch of consecutive macros which expand to
nothing (like in the testcase test/Preprocessor/macro_expand_empty.c in this
patch).

of requiring a single "module.map"-file per include directory). This
step adds a new "extern module" declaration that enables

The next steps are:

* Combine this with the use-declaration (from
http://llvm-reviews.chandlerc.com/D1546) in order to only load module
map files required for a specific compilation.
* Add an additional flag to start with a specific module-map-file (instead

detect application-specific issues within their own code.

Rafael Espindola f8f91b8976 Use llvm::sys::fs::UniqueID for windows and unix.
This unifies the unix and windows versions of FileManager::UniqueDirContainer
and FileManager::UniqueFileContainer by using UniqueID.

We cannot just replace "struct stat" with llvm::sys::fs::file_status, since we
want to be able to construct fake ones, and file_status has different members
on unix and windows.

What the patch does is:

* Record only the information that clang is actually using.
* Use llvm::sys::fs::status instead of stat and fstat.
* Use llvm::sys::fs::UniqueID
* Delete the old windows versions of UniqueDirContainer and
UniqueFileContainer since the "unix" one now works on windows too.

Bob Wilson 5721735025 Reduce stack frame size by avoiding a large token vector on an error path.
Beginning with svn r186971, we noticed an internal test started to fail when
using clang built with LTO. After much investigation, it turns out that there
are no blatant bugs here, we are just running out of stack space and crashing.
Preprocessor::ReadFunctionLikeMacroArgs already has one vector of 64 Tokens,
and r186971 added another. When built with LTO, that function is inlined into
Preprocessor::HandleMacroExpandedIdentifier, which for our internal test is
invoked in a deep recursive cycle. I'm leaving the original 64 Token vector
alone on the assumption that it is important for performance, but the new
FixedArgTokens vector is only used on an error path, so it should be OK if it
requires additional heap storage. It would be even better if we could avoid
the deep recursion, but I think this change is a good thing to do regardless.

David Blaikie 7d17010db5 Use only explicit bool conversion operator
The most common (non-buggy) case are where such objects are used as
return expressions in bool-returning functions or as boolean function
arguments. In those cases I've used (& added if necessary) a named
function to provide the equivalent (or sometimes negative, depending on
convenient wording) test.

DiagnosticBuilder kept its implicit conversion operator owing to the
prevalent use of it in return statements.

One bug was found in ExprConstant.cpp involving a comparison of two
PointerUnions (PointerUnion did not previously have an operator==, so
instead both operands were converted to bool & then compared). A test
is included in test/SemaCXX/constant-expression-cxx1y.cpp for the fix
(adding operator== to PointerUnion in LLVM).

Douglas Gregor 6b930967e8 When building a module, forward diagnostics to the outer diagnostic consumer.
Previously, we would clone the current diagnostic consumer to produce
a new diagnostic consumer to use when building a module. The problem
here is that we end up losing diagnostics for important diagnostic
consumers, such as serialized diagnostics (where we'd end up with two
diagnostic consumers writing the same output file). With forwarding,
the diagnostics from all of the different modules being built get
forwarded to the one serialized-diagnostic consumer and are emitted in

Douglas Gregor 34d52749e4 When looking for the module associated with one of our magical builtin headers, speculatively load module maps.
The "magical" builtin headers are the headers we provide as part of
the C standard library, which typically comes from /usr/include. We
essentially merge our headers into that location (due to cyclic
dependencies). This change makes sure that, when header search finds
one of our builtin headers, we figure out which module it actually
lives in. This case is fairly rare; one ends up having to include one
of the few built-in C headers we provide before including anything
from /usr/include to trigger it. Fixes <rdar://problem/13787184>.

Douglas Gregor 35b13ece23 <rdar://problem/10796651> Introduce configuration macros into module maps.
Configuration macros are macros that are intended to alter how a
module works, such that we need to build different module variants
for different values of these macros. A module can declare its
configuration macros, in which case we will complain if the definition
of a configation macro on the command line (or lack thereof) differs
from the current preprocessor state at the point where the module is
imported. This should eliminate some surprises when enabling modules,
because "#define CONFIG_MACRO ..." followed by "#include
<module/header.h>" would silently ignore the CONFIG_MACRO setting. At
least it will no longer be silent about it.

Configuration macros are eventually intended to help reduce the number
of module variants that need to be built. When the list of
configuration macros for a module is exhaustive, we only need to
consider the settings for those macros when building/finding the
module, which can help isolate modules for various project-specific -D
flags that should never affect how modules are build (but currently do).

It's beneficial when compiling to treat // as the start of a line
comment even in -std=c89 mode, since it's not valid C code (with a few
rare exceptions) and is usually intended as such. We emit a pedantic
warning and then continue on as if line comments were enabled.
This has been our behavior for quite some time.

However, people use the preprocessor for things besides C source files.
In today's prompting example, the input contains (unquoted) URLs, which
contain // but should still be preserved.

This change instructs the lexer to treat // as a plain token if Clang is
in C90 mode and generating preprocessed output rather than actually compiling.

Argyrios Kyrtzidis 09c9e811de [preprocessor] Split the MacroInfo class into two separate concepts, MacroInfo class
for the data specific to a macro definition (e.g. what the tokens are), and
MacroDirective class which encapsulates the changes to the "macro namespace"
(e.g. the location where the macro name became active, the location where it was undefined, etc.)

(A MacroDirective always points to a MacroInfo object.)

Usually a macro definition (MacroInfo) is where a macro name becomes active (MacroDirective) but
splitting the concepts allows us to better model the effect of modules to the macro namespace
(also as a bonus it allows better modeling of push_macro/pop_macro #pragmas).
Modules can have their own macro history, separate from the local (current translation unit)
macro history; MacroDirectives will be used to model the macro history (changes to macro namespace).

For example, if "@import A;" imports macro FOO, there will be a new local MacroDirective created
to indicate that "FOO" became active at the import location. Module "A" itself will contain another
MacroDirective in its macro history (at the point of the definition of FOO) and both MacroDirectives
will point to the same MacroInfo object.

Introducing the separation of macro concepts is the first part towards better modeling of module macros.

Jordan Rose 7f43dddae0 Handle universal character names and Unicode characters outside of literals.
This is a missing piece for C99 conformance.

This patch handles UCNs by adding a '\\' case to LexTokenInternal and
LexIdentifier -- if we see a backslash, we tentatively try to read in a UCN.
If the UCN is not syntactically well-formed, we fall back to the old
treatment: a backslash followed by an identifier beginning with 'u' (or 'U').

Because the spelling of an identifier with UCNs still has the UCN in it, we
need to convert that to UTF-8 in Preprocessor::LookUpIdentifierInfo.

Of course, valid code that does *not* use UCNs will see only a very minimal
performance hit (checks after each identifier for non-ASCII characters,
checks when converting raw_identifiers to identifiers that they do not
contain UCNs, and checks when getting the spelling of an identifier that it
does not contain a UCN).

This patch also adds basic support for actual UTF-8 in the source. This is
treated almost exactly the same as UCNs except that we consider stray
Unicode characters to be mistakes and offer a fixit to remove them.
