The setting of `MCAsmInfo` properties for XCOFF got split between
`MCAsmInfoXCOFF` and `PPCXCOFFMCAsmInfo`. Except for the properties that
are dependent on the target information being passed via the
constructor, the properties being set in `PPCXCOFFMCAsmInfo` had no
fundamental reason for being treated as specific for XCOFF on PowerPC.
Indeed, the property that might be considered more specific to PowerPC,
`NeedsFunctionDescriptors`, was set in `MCAsmInfoXCOFF`.
XCOFF being specific to PowerPC anyway, this patch consolidates the
setting of the properties into `MCAsmInfoXCOFF` except for the cases
that are dependent on the information provided via the
`PPCXCOFFMCAsmInfo` constructor.
This patch also reorders the assignments to the fields to match the
declaration order in `MCAsmInfo`.
This change add support for defined wasm globals in the .s format,
the MC layer, and wasm-ld
Currently there is no support custom initialization and all wasm
globals are initialized to zero.

The generic implementation is actually specific to x86. It assumes the
offset is relative to the end of the instruction and the immediate is
not scaled (which is false on most RISC).
Summary:
Before this patch, `relaxInstruction` takes three arguments, the first
argument refers to the instruction before relaxation and the third
argument is the output instruction after relaxation. There are two quite
strange things:
1) The first argument's type is `const MCInst &`, the third
argument's type is `MCInst &`, but they may be aliased to the same
variable
2) The backends of ARM, AMDGPU, RISC-V, Hexagon assume that the third
argument is a fresh uninitialized `MCInst` even if `relaxInstruction`
may be called like `relaxInstruction(Relaxed, STI, Relaxed)` in a
loop.
In this patch, we drop the thrid argument, and let `relaxInstruction`
directly modify the given instruction. Also, this patch fixes the bug https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45580, which is introduced by D77851, and
breaks the assumption of ARM, AMDGPU, RISC-V, Hexagon.

According to DWARF standard, is_stmt is a global flag; when set or cleared it should affect subsequent .loc directives.
However llvm assembler handled is_stmt differently: it forced all locations to have is_stmt=1 unless is_stmt was specified explicitly as 0.
The fix utilizes current DWARF state flags to compute correct is_stmt values.

Ensure that symbols explicitly* assigned a section name are placed into
a section with a compatible entry size.
This is done by creating multiple sections with the same name** if
incompatible symbols are explicitly given the name of an incompatible
section, whilst:
- Avoiding using uniqued sections where possible (for readability and
to maximize compatibly with assemblers).
- Creating as few SHF_MERGE sections as possible (for efficiency).
Given that each symbol is assigned to a section in a single pass, we
must decide which section each symbol is assigned to without seeing the
properties of all symbols. A stable and easy to understand assignment is
desirable. The following rules facilitate this: The "generic" section
for a given section name will be mergeable if the name is a mergeable
"default" section name (such as .debug_str), a mergeable "implicit"
section name (such as .rodata.str2.2), or MC has already created a
mergeable "generic" section for the given section name (e.g. in response
to a section directive in inline assembly). Otherwise, the "generic"
section for a given name is non-mergeable; and, non-mergeable symbols
are assigned to the "generic" section, while mergeable symbols are
assigned to uniqued sections.
Terminology:
"default" sections are those always created by MC initially, e.g. .text
or .debug_str.
"implicit" sections are those created normally by MC in response to the
symbols that it encounters, i.e. in the absence of an explicit section
name assignment on the symbol, e.g. a function foo might be placed into
a .text.foo section.
"generic" sections are those that are referred to when a unique section
ID is not supplied, e.g. if there are multiple unique .bob sections then
".quad .bob" will reference the generic .bob section. Typically, the
generic section is just the first section of a given name to be created.
Default sections are always generic.

Some minor fixes were required to LLVM's tests, for tests had been using
the old behavior - which allowed for explicitly assigning globals with
incompatible entry sizes to a section.
This fix relies on the ",unique ," assembly feature. This feature is not
available until bintuils version 2.35

integrated assembler is not being used then we avoid using this feature
for compatibility and instead try to place mergeable symbols into
non-mergeable sections or issue an error otherwise.

We follow x86-64 psABI and use SHT_X86_64_UNWIND for .eh_frame

For `.bss; nop`, MC inappropriately calls abort() (via report_fatal_error()) with a message
`cannot have fixups in virtual section!`
It is a bug to crash for invalid user input. Fix it by erroring out early in EmitInstToData().
Similarly, emitIntValue() in a virtual section (SHT_NOBITS in ELF) can crash with the mssage
`non-zero initializer found in section '.bss'` (see D4199)
It'd be nice to report the location but so many directives can call emitIntValue()
and it is difficult to track every location.
Note, COFF does not crash because MCAssembler::writeSectionData() is not
called for an IMAGE_SCN_CNT_UNINITIALIZED_DATA section.
Note, GNU as' arm64 backend reports ``Error: attempt to store non-zero value in section `.bss'``
for a non-zero .inst but fails to do so for other instructions.
We simply reject all instructions, even if the encoding is all zeros.

MCExpr has a bunch of free space that is currently going to waste.
Repurpose it as 24 bits of subclass data, which is enough to reduce
the size of all subclasses by 8 bytes. This gives us some respectable

On PowerPC most functions require a valid TOC pointer.
This is the case because either the function itself needs to use this
pointer to access the TOC or because other functions that are called
from that function expect a valid TOC pointer in the register R2.
The main exception to this is leaf functions that do not access the TOC
since they are guaranteed not to need a valid TOC pointer.
This patch introduces a feature that will allow more functions to not
require a valid TOC pointer in R2.

Summary:
Since D75300 has been landed, I want to support enhanced relaxation when we need to align branches and allow prefix padding. "Enhanced Relaxtion" means we allow an instruction that could not be traditionally relaxed to be emitted into RelaxableFragment so that we increase its length by adding prefixes for optimization.
The motivation is straightforward, RelaxFragment is mostly for relative jumps and we can not increase the length of jumps when we need to align them, so if we need to achieve D75300's purpose (reducing the bytes of nops) when need to align jumps, we have to make more instructions "relaxable".

Summary:
For current architect, we always require setContainingCsect to be
called on every MCSymbol got used in XCOFF context.
This is very hard to achieve because symbols gets created everywhere
and other MCSymbol types(ELF, COFF) do not have similar rules.
It's very easy to miss setting the containing csect, and we would
need to add a lot of XCOFF specialized code around some common code area.
This patch intendeds to do
1. Rely on getFragment().getParent() to get csect from labels.
2. Only use get/setRepresentedCsect (was get/setContainingCsect)
if symbol itself represents a csect.

This patch adds
- New arguments to getMinPrefetchStride() to let the target decide on a
per-loop basis if software prefetching should be done even with a stride
within the limit of the hw prefetcher.
- New TTI hook enableWritePrefetching() to let a target do write prefetching
by default (defaults to false).
- In LoopDataPrefetch:
- A search through the whole loop to gather information before emitting any
prefetches. This way the target can get information via new arguments to
getMinPrefetchStride() and emit prefetches more selectively. Collected
information includes: Does the loop have a call, how many memory
accesses, how many of them are strided, how many prefetches will cover
them. This is NFC to before as long as the target does not change its
definition of getMinPrefetchStride().
- If a previous access to the same exact address was 'read', and the
current one is 'write', make it a 'write' prefetch.
- If two accesses that are covered by the same prefetch do not dominate
each other, put the prefetch in a block that dominates both of them.
- If a ConstantMaxTripCount is less than ItersAhead, then skip the loop.
- A SystemZ implementation of getMinPrefetchStride().

MC already knows how to emulate the .weak directive (with its ELF
semantics; i.e., an undefined weak symbol resolves to 0, and a defined
weak symbol has lower link precedence than a strong symbol of the same
name) using COFF weak externals. Plumb this through the ASM printer too,
so that definitions marked with __attribute__((weak)) at the language
level (which gets translated to weak linkage at the IR level) have the
corresponding .weak directive emitted. Note that declarations marked
with __attribute__((weak)) at the language level (which translates to
extern_weak at the IR level) already have .weak directives emitted.
Weak*/linkonce* symbols without an associated comdat (in particular, ones
generated with __attribute__((weak)) in C/C++) were earlier emitted as
normal unique globals, as the comdat is required to provide the linkonce
semantics. This change makes sure they are emitted as .weak instead,
allowing other symbols to override them.
Rename the existing coff-weak.ll test to coff-linkonce.ll. I'm not
quite sure what that test covers, since the behavior being tested in it
(the emission of a one_only section) is just a result of passing
-function-sections to llc; the linkonce_odr makes no difference.
Add a new coff-weak.ll which tests the new directive emission.

The current relaxation implementation is not correctly adjusting the
size and offsets of fragements in one section based on changes in size
of another if the layout order of the two happened to be such that the
former was visited before the later. Therefore, we need to invalidate
the fragments in all sections after each iteration of relaxation, and
possibly further relax some of them in the next ieration. This fixes

MCTargetOptionsCommandFlags.inc and CommandFlags.inc are headers which contain
cl::opt with static storage.
These headers are meant to be incuded by tools to make it easier to parametrize
codegen/mc.
However, these headers are also included in at least two libraries: lldCommon
and handle-llvm. As a result, when creating DYLIB, clang-cpp holds a reference
to the options, and lldCommon holds another reference. Linking the two in a
single executable, as zig does[0], results in a double registration.
This patch explores an other approach: the .inc files are moved to regular
files, and the registration happens on-demand through static declaration of
options in the constructor of a static object.

alignBranches is X86 specific, change the name in a
more general one since other target can do some state
chang before and after emitting the instruction.
These symbols need to be external (MSVC tools error out if a weak
external points at a symbol that isn't external; this was tried before
but had to be reverted in bc5b7217dc,
and this was originally explicitly fixed in
732eeaf2a9).
If multiple object files have weak symbols with defaults, their
defaults could cause linker errors due to duplicate definitions,
unless the names of the defaults are unique.
GNU binutils handles this by appending the name of another symbol
from the same object file to the name of the default symbol. Try
to implement something similar; before writing the object file,
locate a symbol that should have a unique name and use the name of
that one for making the weak defaults unique.

For context, the proposed RISC-V bit manipulation extension has a subset
of instructions which require one of two SubtargetFeatures to be
enabled, 'zbb' or 'zbp', and there is no defined feature which both of
these can imply to use as a constraint either (see comments in D65649).
AssemblerPredicates allow multiple SubtargetFeatures to be declared in
the "AssemblerCondString" field, separated by commas, and this means
that the two features must both be enabled. There is no equivalent to
say that _either_ feature X or feature Y must be enabled, short of
creating a dummy SubtargetFeature for this purpose and having features X
and Y imply the new feature.
To solve the case where X or Y is needed without adding a new feature,
and to better match a typical TableGen style, this replaces the existing
"AssemblerCondString" with a dag "AssemblerCondDag" which represents the
same information. Two operators are defined for use with
AssemblerCondDag, "all_of", which matches the current behaviour, and
"any_of", which adds the new proposed ORing features functionality.
This was originally proposed in the RFC at

Changes to all current backends are mechanical to support the replaced
functionality, and are NFCI.
At this stage, it is illegal to combine features with ands and ors in a
single AssemblerCondDag. I suspect this case is sufficiently rare that
adding more complex changes to support it are unnecessary.

Summary:
Currently, a BoundaryAlign fragment may be inserted after the branch
that needs to be aligned to truncate the current fragment, this fragment is
unused at most of time. To avoid that, we can insert a new empty Data
fragment instead. Non-relaxable instruction is usually emitted into Data
fragment, so the inserted empty Data fragment will be reused at a high
possibility.

Summary:
Mixing stackmaps and DWARF in a single file triggers an assertion in
MCMachOStreamer as stackmap sections are emitted in AsmPrinter::emitEndOfAsmFile
after the DWARF sections have already been emitted.
Since it should be safe to emit stackmap sections after DWARF sections this
patch relaxes the assertion to allow that.

Summary:
Dollar signed prefixed integers were not allowed by the AsmParser to be
used as Identifiers, differing from the GNU assembler behavior.
This patch updates the parsing of Identifiers to consider such cases as
valid, where the identifier string includes the $ prefix itself. As the
Lexer currently splits these occurrences into separate tokens, those
need to be combined by the AsmParser itself.

Having this as it's own function helps to reduce indentation and allows use of return instead of wiring a value over the switch. A lambda would have also worked, but with slightly deeper nesting.

In clang cc1as, MCContext::UseNamesOnTempLabels is true.
When parsing a .fnstart directive, FnStart gets redefined to a temporary symbol of a different name (.Ltmp0, .Ltmp1, ...).
MCContext::getELFSection() called by SwitchToEHSection() will create a different .ARM.exidx each time.
llvm-mc uses `Ctx.setUseNamesOnTempLabels(false);` and FnStart is unnamed.
MCContext::getELFSection() called by SwitchToEHSection() will reuse the same .ARM.exidx .

GNU as started to emit warnings for changed sh_type or sh_flags in 2000.
GNU as>=2.35 will emit errors for most sh_type/sh_flags change, and error for entsize change.
Some cases remain warnings for legacy reasons:

# And some obscure sh_flags changes (OS/Processor specific flags)
The rationale of a diagnostic (warning or error) is that sh_type,
sh_flags or sh_entsize changes usually indicate user errors. The values
are taken from the first .section directive. Successive directives are ignored.
We just try to be rigid and emit errors for all sh_type/sh_flags/sh_entsize change.

This first draft has preliminary support for:
- conditional directives (including errors),
- data allocation (unsigned types up to 8 bytes, and ALIGN),
- equates/variables (numeric and text),
- and procedure directives (without parameters),
as well as COMMENT, ECHO, INCLUDE, INCLUDELIB, PUBLIC, and EXTERN. Text variables (aka text macros) are expanded in-place wherever the identifier occurs.
We deliberately ignore all ml.exe processor directives.
Prominent features not yet supported:
- structs
- macros (both procedures and functions)
- procedures (with specified parameters)
- substitution & expansion operators
Conditional directives are complicated by the fact that "ifdef rax" is a valid way to check if a file is being assembled for a 64-bit x86 processor; we add support for "ifdef <register>" in general, which requires adding a tryParseRegister method to all MCTargetAsmParsers. (Some targets require backtracking in the non-register case.)

Pad macho section data to pointer size bytes, so that relocation
table and symbol table following section data will be pointer size
aligned.

Printing floating point number in decimal is inconvenient for humans.
Verbose asm output will print out floating point values in comments, it
helps.
But in lots of cases, users still need additional work to covert the
decimal back to hex or binary to check the bit patterns,
especially when there are small precision difference.
Hexadecimal form is one of the supported form in LLVM IR, and easier for
debugging.
This patch try to print all FP constant in hex form instead.

"linked-to section" is used by the ELF spec. By analogy, "linked-to
symbol" is a good name for the signature symbol. The word "linked-to"
implies a directed edge and makes it clear its relation with "sh_link",
while one can argue that "associated" means an undirected edge.
Also, combine tests and add precise SMLoc to improve diagnostics.

This is how it should've been and brings it more in line with

This is mostly mechanical from a custom clang-tidy check, with a lot of
manual fixups. It uncovers a lot of minor inefficiencies.
This doesn't actually modify StringRef yet, I'll do that in a follow-up.
Summary:
Previously, we would erroneously turn %pcrel_lo(label), where label has
a %pcrel_hi against a weak symbol, into %pcrel_lo(label + offset), as
evaluatePCRelLo would believe the target independent logic was going to
fold it. Moreover, even if that were fixed, shouldForceRelocation lacks
an MCAsmLayout and thus cannot evaluate the %pcrel_hi fixup to a value
and check the symbol, so we would then erroneously constant-fold the
%pcrel_lo whilst leaving the %pcrel_hi intact. After D72197, this same
sequence also occurs for symbols with global binding, which is triggered
in real-world code.
Instead, as discussed in D71978, we introduce a new FKF_IsTarget flag to
avoid these kinds of issues. All the resolution logic happens in one
place, with no coordination required between RISCAsmBackend and
RISCVMCExpr to ensure they implement the same logic twice. Although the
implementation of %pcrel_hi can be left as target independent, we make
it target dependent to ensure that they are handled identically to
%pcrel_lo, otherwise we risk one of them being constant folded but the
other being preserved. This also allows us to properly support fixup
pairs where the instructions are in different fragments.

Summary:
We create a number of standard types of control sections in multiple places for
things like the function descriptors, external references and the TOC anchor
among others, so it is possible for their properties to be defined
inconsistently in different places. This refactor moves their creation and
properties into functions in the TargetLoweringObjectFile class hierarchy, where
functions for retrieving various special types of sections typically seem
to reside.
Note: There is one case in PPCISelLowering which is specific to function entry
points which we don't address since we don't have access to the TLOF there.

When compiling position-independent executables, we now use
DW_EH_PE_pcrel | DW_EH_PE_sdata4. However, the MIPS ABI does not define a
64-bit PC-relative ELF relocation so we cannot use sdata8 for the large
code model case. When using the large code model, we fall back to the
previous behaviour of generating absolute relocations.
With this change clang-generated .o files can be linked by LLD without
having to pass -Wl,-z,notext (which creates text relocations).
This is simpler than the approach used by ld.bfd, which rewrites the
.eh_frame section to convert absolute relocations into relative references.
I saw in D13104 that apparently ld.bfd did not accept pc-relative relocations
for MIPS ouput at some point. However, I also checked that recent ld.bfd
can process the clang-generated .o files so this no longer seems true.

For a target symbol defined in the same section, currently we don't emit
a relocation if VariantKind is VK_None (with few exceptions like RISC-V
relaxation), while GNU as emits one. This causes program behavior
differences with and without -ffunction-sections, and can break intended
symbol interposition in a -shared link.

Unify these cases by always emitting a relocation. If we ever want to
optimize `call foo` in -shared links, we should emit a STB_LOCAL alias
and call via the alias.
ARM/thumb2-beq-fixup.s: we now emit a relocation to global_thumb_fn as GNU as does.
X86/Inputs/align-branch-64-2.s: we now emit R_X86_64_PLT32 to foo as GNU does.
ELF/relax.s: rewrite the test as target-in-same-section.s .
We omitted relocations to `global` and now emit R_X86_64_PLT32.
Note, GNU as does not emit a relocation for `jmp global` (maybe its own
bug). Our new behavior is compatible except `jmp global`.

The argument is llvm::null() everywhere except llvm::errs() in
llvm-objdump in -DLLVM_ENABLE_ASSERTIONS=On builds. It is used by no
target but X86 in -DLLVM_ENABLE_ASSERTIONS=On builds.
If we ever have the needs to add verbose log to disassemblers, we can
record log with a member function, instead of passing it around as an
argument.
Summary:
Extend D71677 to apply to all branch-target operands, rather than special-casing call instructions.
Also add a regression test for llvm.org/PR44272, since this finishes fixing it.

`APFLoat::convertFromString` returns `Expected` result, which must be
"checked" if the LLVM_ENABLE_ABI_BREAKING_CHECKS preprocessor flag is
set.
To mark an `Expected` result as "checked" we must consume the `Error`
within.
In many cases, we are only interested in knowing if an error occured,
without the need to examine the error info. This is achieved, easily,
with the `errorToBool()` API.
As discussed heavily in the original review (D70157), there's a need for the compiler to be able to selective suppress padding (either nop or prefix) to respect assumptions about the meaning of labels and instructions in generated code.
Rather than wait for syntax to be finalized - which appears to be a very slow process - this patch focuses on the compiler use case and *only* worries about the integrated assembler. To my knowledge, this covers all cases mentioned to date for clang/JIT support.
For testing purposes, I wired it up so that if the integrated assembler was using autopadding for branch alignment (e.g. enabled at command line) then the textual assembly output would contain a comment for each location where padding was enabled or disabled. This seemed like the least painful choice overall.
Note that the result of this patch effective disables the jcc errata mitigation for many constructs (statepoints, implicit null checks, xray, etc...) which is non ideal. It is at least *correct* and should allow us to enable the mitigation for the compiler. Once that's done, and a few other items are worked through, we probably want to come back to this an explore a bundling based approach instead so that we can pad instructions while keeping labels in the right place.

Silence (clang/MSVC) static analyzer warnings that the fragment data may either write out of bounds of the local array or reference uninitialized data.
printInst prints a branch/call instruction as `b offset` (there are many
variants on various targets) instead of `b address`.
It is a convention to use address instead of offset in most external
symbolizers/disassemblers. This difference makes `llvm-objdump -d`
output unsatisfactory.
Add `uint64_t Address` to printInst(), so that it can pass the argument to
printInstruction(). `raw_ostream &OS` is moved to the last to be
consistent with other print* methods.
The next step is to pass `Address` to printInstruction() (generated by
tablegen from the instruction set description). We can gradually migrate
targets to print addresses instead of offsets.
In any case, downstream projects which don't know `Address` can pass 0 as
the argument.

sizeof(MCFragment) does not change, but some if its subclasses do, e.g.
on a 64-bit platform,
sizeof(MCEncodedFragment) decreases from 64 to 56,
sizeof(MCDataFragment) decreases from 224 to 216.
This simplifies the generic interface and also makes SHF_ARM_PURECODE
more robust (fixes a TODO). Inspecting MCDataFragment contents covers
more cases than MCObjectStreamer::EmitBytes.
clang/lib/CodeGen/CodeGenModule performs the -mpie-copy-relocations
check and sets dso_local on applicable global variables. We don't need
to duplicate the work in TargetMachine shouldAssumeDSOLocal.
Verified that -mpie-copy-relocations can still emit PC relative
relocations for external variable accesses.

If we have references to the same extern_weak in multiple objects,
all of them would generate external symbols with the same name. Make
them static to avoid duplicate definitions; nothing should need to
refer to this symbol outside of the current object.
GCC/binutils seems to handle the same by not using a fixed string
for the ".default" suffix, but instead using the name of some other
defined external symbol from the same object (which is supposed to
be unique among objects unless there's other duplicate definitions).

This is a preliminary patch on the patch towards mitigating the performance
regressions caused by Intel's microcode update for Jump Conditional Code

The patch adds the required assembler infrastructure and command line options
needed to exercise the logic for INTERNAL TESTING. These are NOT public flags,
and should not be used for anything other than LLVM's own testing/debugging
purposes. They are likely to change both in spelling and meaning.
WARNING: This patch is knowingly incorrect in some cornercases. We need, and
do not yet provide, a mechanism to selective enable/disable the padding.
Conversation on this will continue in parellel with work on extending this
infrastructure to support prefix padding.
The goal here is to have the assembler align specific instructions such that
they neither cross or end at a 32 byte boundary. The impacted instructions are:
a. Conditional jump.
b. Fused conditional jump.
c. Unconditional jump.
d. Indirect jump.
e. Ret.
f. Call.
The new options for llvm-mc are:
-x86-align-branch-boundary=NUM aligns branches within NUM byte boundary.
-x86-align-branch=TYPE[+TYPE...] specifies types of branches to align.
A new MCFragment type, MCBoundaryAlignFragment, is added, which may emit
NOP to align the fused/unfused branch.
alignBranchesBegin inserts MCBoundaryAlignFragment before instructions,
alignBranchesEnd marks the end of the branch to be aligned,
relaxBoundaryAlign grows or shrinks sizes of NOP to align the target branch.
Nop padding is disabled when the instruction may be rewritten by the linker,
such as TLS Call.
Process Note: I am landing a patch by skan as it has been LGTMed, and
continuing to iterate on the review is simply slowing us down at this point.

This commit moves the "Pending Labels" list into each MCStream, so that
this label-fragment matching process is resilient to section changes. If
the streamer emits a label in a new section, switches to another section to
do other work, then switches back to the first section and emits a
fragment, that initial label will be associated with this new fragment.
Labels will only receive empty data fragments in the case where no other
fragment exists for that section.
The downstream effects of this can be seen in Mach-O relocations. The
previous approach could produce local section relocations and external
symbol relocations for the same data in an object file, and this mix of
relocation types resulted in problems in the ld64 Mach-O linker. This
commit ensures relocations triggered by temporary labels are consistent.

MCSymbolRefExpr::getVariantKindForName does not return VK_WEAKREF, so this code path is not exercised. Moreoever, .weakref is probably a feature that nobody uses.

Intel has now worked on an assembler patch to mitigate performance loss
after applying microcode update for the Jump Conditional Code Erratum.

Tablegen was emitting a large switch containing a sequence of operand checks,
each of which created many conditions and many BBs. Register allocation and
jump threading both did not scale well with such a large repetitive sequence of
basic blocks.

Summary:
Emit the correct .toc psuedo op when we change to the TOC and emit
TC entries. Make sure TOC psuedos get the right symbols via overriding
getMCSymbolForTOCPseudoMO on AIX. Add a test for TOC assembly writing
and update tests to include TOC entries.
Also make sure external globals have a csect set and handle external function descriptor (originally authored by Jason Liu) so we can emit TOC entries for them.

The third parameter to Streamer.EmitSymbolValue() is "bool
IsSectionRelative = false".
For ELF, these debug sections are mapped to address zero, so a normal,
absolute address relocation works just fine, but COFF needs a section
relative relocation, and COFF is the only target where
needsDwarfSectionOffsetDirective() returns true. This matches how
EmitSymbolValue is called elsewhere in the same source file.

Summary:
Most libraries are defined in the lib/ directory but there are also a
few libraries defined in tools/ e.g. libLLVM, libLTO. I'm defining
"Component Libraries" as libraries defined in lib/ that may be included in
libLLVM.so. Explicitly marking the libraries in lib/ as component
libraries allows us to remove some fragile checks that attempt to
differentiate between lib/ libraries and tools/ libraires:
1. In tools/llvm-shlib, because
llvm_map_components_to_libnames(LIB_NAMES "all") returned a list of
all libraries defined in the whole project, there was custom code
needed to filter out libraries defined in tools/, none of which should
be included in libLLVM.so. This code assumed that any library
defined as static was from lib/ and everything else should be
excluded.
With this change, llvm_map_components_to_libnames(LIB_NAMES, "all")
only returns libraries that have been added to the LLVM_COMPONENT_LIBS
global cmake property, so this custom filtering logic can be removed.
Doing this also fixes the build with BUILD_SHARED_LIBS=ON
and LLVM_BUILD_LLVM_DYLIB=ON.
2. There was some code in llvm_add_library that assumed that
libraries defined in lib/ would not have LLVM_LINK_COMPONENTS or
ARG_LINK_COMPONENTS set. This is only true because libraries
defined lib lib/ use LLVMBuild.txt and don't set these values.
This code has been fixed now to check if the library has been
explicitly marked as a component library, which should now make it
easier to remove LLVMBuild at some point in the future.
I have tested this patch on Windows, MacOS and Linux with release builds
and the following combinations of CMake options:
- "" (No options)
- -DLLVM_BUILD_LLVM_DYLIB=ON
- -DLLVM_LINK_LLVM_DYLIB=ON
- -DBUILD_SHARED_LIBS=ON

This patch implements writing function descriptors and TOC base into
data section, and also add function descriptors(both csect and label)
and TOC base symbols to the symbol table.
In MCObjectStreamer, when there is no current fragment, initially
symbols are created in a "pending" state and assigned to a dummy
empty fragment.
Previously, they were not being assigned an offset, and thus
evaluateAbsolute would fail if trying to evaluate an expression 'a -
b', where both 'a' and 'b' were in this pending state.
Also slightly refactored the EmitLabel overload which takes an
MCFragment for clarity.

Recommit r373168, which was reverted by r373242. This actually exposed a
boringssl bug which has been fixed for more than one month.
For the following two cases, we currently suppress the symbols. This
patch emits them (compatible with GNU as).
* `test2_a = undef`: if `undef` is otherwise unused.
* `.hidden hidden`: if `hidden` is unused. This is the main point of the
patch, because omitting the symbol would cause a linker semantic
difference.
It causes a behavior change that is not compatible with GNU as:
.weakref foo1, bar1
When neither foo1 nor bar1 is used, we now emit bar1, which is arguably
more consistent.
Another change is that we will emit .TOC. for .TOC.@tocbase . For this
directive, suppressing .TOC. can be seen as a size optimization, but we
choose to drop it for simplicity and consistency.
Summary:
We are using symbols to represent label and csect interchangeably before, and that could be a problem.
There are cases we would need to add storage mapping class to the symbol if that symbol is actually the name of a csect, but it's hard for us to figure out whether that symbol is a label or csect.
This patch intend to do the following:
1. Construct a QualName (A name include the storage mapping class)
MCSymbolXCOFF for every MCSectionXCOFF.
2. Keep a pointer to that QualName inside of MCSectionXCOFF.
3. Use that QualName whenever we need a symbol refers to that
MCSectionXCOFF.
4. Adapt the snowball effect from the above changes in
XCOFFObjectWriter.cpp.

A new function pass (Transforms/CFGuard/CFGuard.cpp) inserts CFGuard checks on
indirect function calls, using either the check mechanism (X86, ARM, AArch64) or
or the dispatch mechanism (X86-64). The check mechanism requires a new calling
convention for the supported targets. The dispatch mechanism adds the target as
an operand bundle, which is processed by SelectionDAG. Another pass
(CodeGen/CFGuardLongjmp.cpp) identifies and emits valid longjmp targets, as
required by /guard:cf. This feature is enabled using the `cfguard` CC1 option.

Summary:
Right now we handle each CsectGroup(ProgramCodeCsects, BSSCsects)
individually when assigning indices, writing symbol table, and
writing section raw data. However, there is already a pattern there,
and we could common up those actions for every CsectGroup. This will
make adding new CsectGroup(Read Write data, Read only data, TC/TOC,
mergeable string) easier, and less error prone.

MipsMCAsmInfo was using '$' prefix for Mips32 and '.L' for Mips64

Re-apply 9fdfb045ae8b/r365676 with fixes for PPC and Hexagon. This involved
moving defaults from TargetTransformInfoImplBase to MCSubtargetInfo.
Rework the TTI cache and software prefetching APIs to prepare for the
introduction of a general system model. Changes include:
- Marking existing interfaces const and/or override as appropriate
- Adding comments
- Adding BasicTTIImpl interfaces that delegate to a subtarget
implementation
- Moving the default TargetTransformInfoImplBase implementation to a default
MCSubtarget implementation
Only a handful of targets use these interfaces currently: AArch64, Hexagon, PPC
and SystemZ. AArch64 already has a custom subtarget implementation, so its
custom TTI implementation is migrated to use the new facilities in BasicTTIImpl
to invoke its custom subtarget implementation. The custom TTI implementations
continue to exist for the other targets with this change. They are not moved
over to subtarget-based implementations.
The end goal is to have the default subtarget implementation defer to the system
model defined by the target. With this change, the default MCSubtargetInfo
implementation essentially returns the defaults TargetTransformInfoImplBase used
to return. Existing users of TTI defaults will hit the defaults now in
MCSubtargetInfo. Targets that define their own custom TTI implementations won't
use the BasicTTIImpl implementations that route to the subtarget.
Once system models are in place for the targets that use these interfaces, their
custom TTI implementations can be removed.

David added the JamCRC implementation in r246590. More recently, Eugene
added a CRC-32 implementation in r357901, which falls back to zlib's
crc32 function if present.
These checksums are essentially the same, so having multiple
implementations seems unnecessary. This replaces the CRC-32
implementation with the simpler one from JamCRC, and implements the
JamCRC interface in terms of CRC-32 since this means it can use zlib's
implementation when available, saving a few bytes and potentially making
it faster.
JamCRC took an ArrayRef<char> argument, and CRC-32 took a StringRef.
This patch changes it to ArrayRef<uint8_t> which I think is the best
choice, and simplifies a few of the callers nicely.

Summary:
The functions different in two ways:
- getLLVMRegNum could return both "eh" and "other" dwarf register
numbers, while getLLVMRegNumFromEH only returned the "eh" number.
- getLLVMRegNum asserted if the register was not found, while the second
function returned -1.
The second distinction was pretty important, but it was very hard to
infer that from the function name. Aditionally, for the use case of
dumping dwarf expressions, we needed a function which can work with both
kinds of number, but does not assert.
This patch solves both of these issues by merging the two functions into
one, returning an Optional<unsigned> value. While the same thing could
be achieved by adding an "IsEH" argument to the (renamed)
getLLVMRegNumFromEH function, it seemed better to avoid the confusion of
two functions and put the choice of asserting into the hands of the
caller -- if he checks the Optional value, he can safely process
"untrusted" input, and if he blindly dereferences the Optional, he gets
the assertion.
I've updated all call sites to the new API, choosing between the two
options according to the function they were calling originally, except
that I've updated the usage in DWARFExpression.cpp to use the "safe"
method instead, and added a test case which would have previously
triggered an assertion failure when processing (incorrect?) dwarf
expressions.

Passing INT64_MIN to MCInstPrinter::formatHex triggers undefined
behavior because the negation of -9223372036854775808 cannot be
represented in type 'int64_t' (aka 'long long'). This patch puts a
workaround in place to just print the hex value directly.
A possible alternative involves using a small helper functions that uses
(implementation) defined conversions to achieve the desirable value:

The underlying problem is that MCInstPrinter::formatHex(int64_t) returns
a format_object<int64_t> and should really return a

and hex (where we'd prefer to always have an unsigned).

These flags should simply be passed through to the target, which will do
the right thing. Add an MC/X86 test that uses these directives with the
three primary object file formats and shows that they disassemble the
same everywhere.
There is a missing test for .code32 on Windows ARM, since I'm not sure
exactly how to construct one.

Adds Wrapper classes for MCSymbol and MCSection into the XCOFF target
object writer. Also adds a class to represent the top-level sections, which we
materialize in the ObjectWriter.
executePostLayoutBinding will map all csects into the appropriate
container depending on its storage mapping class, and map all symbols
into their containing csect. Once all symbols have been processed we
- Assign addresses and symbol table indices.
- Calaculte section sizes.
- Build the section header table.
- Assign the sections raw-pointer value for non-virtual sections.
Since the .bss section is virtual, writing the header table is enough to
add support. Writing of a sections raw data, or of any relocations is
not included in this patch.
Testing is done by dumping the section header table, but it needs to be
extended to include dumping the symbol table once readobj support for
dumping auxiallary entries lands.

symbols that are not present in the final output (i.e. not live).
However it is also possible to have R_WASM_TABLE_INDEX relocations

WebAssembly doesn't support PC relative relocation or relocation
expressions that can't be reduced to single symbol.
The only support for we have for fixups involving two symbols are when
both symbols are defined and withing the same section. In this case
evaluateFixup will already have evaluated to the expression before
calling recordRelocation.

GNU as keeps the original symbol in the symbol table for defined @ and
@@, but suppresses it in other cases (@@@ or undefined). The original
symbol is usually undesired:
In a shared object, the original symbol can be localized with a version
script, but it is hard to remove/localize in an archive:
1) a post-processing step removes the undesired original symbol
2) consumers (executable) of the archive are built with the
version script
Moreover, it can cause linker issues like binutils PR/18703 if the
original symbol name and the base name of the versioned symbol is the
same (both ld.bfd and gold have some code to work around defined @ and
@@). In lld, if it sees f and f@v1:
--version-script =(printf 'v1 {};') => f and f@v1
--version-script =(printf 'v1 { f; };') => f@v1 and f@@v1
It can be argued that @@@ added on 2000-11-13 corrected the @ and @@ mistake.
This patch catches some more multiple version errors (defined @ and @@),
and consistently suppress the original symbol. This addresses all the
problems listed above.
If the user wants other aliases to the versioned symbol, they can copy
the original symbol to other symbol names with .set directive, e.g.
.symver f, f@v1 # emit f@v1 but not f into .symtab
.set f_impl, f # emit f_impl into .symtab

Summary:
This patch keeps track of MCSymbols created for blocks that were
referenced in inline asm. It prevents creating a new symbol which
doesn't refer to the block.
Inline asm may have a reference to a label. The asm parser however
doesn't recognize it as a label and tries to create a new symbol. The
result being that instead of the original symbol (e.g. ".Ltmp0") the
parser replaces it in the inline asm with the new one (e.g. ".Ltmp00")
without updating it in the symbol table. So the machine basic block
retains the "old" symbol (".Ltmp0"), but the inline asm uses the new one
(".Ltmp00").

Deleted code was introduced as a work around for a bug in the gold linker
(http://sourceware.org/PR16794). Test case that was given as a reason for
this part of code, the one on previous link, now works for the gold.
This condition is too strict and when a code is compiled with debug info
it forces generation of numerous relocations with symbol for architectures
that do not have relocation addend.

In debug frame information, some fields, e.g., Length in CIE/FDE and
Offset in FDE are attributes to describe the structure of CIE/FDE. They
are not related to the relaxed code. However, these attributes are
symbol differences. So, in current design, these attributes will be
filled as zero and LLVM generates relocations for them.
We only need to generate relocations for symbols in executable sections.
So, if the symbols are not located in executable sections, we still
evaluate their values under relaxation.

Rework the TTI cache and software prefetching APIs to prepare for the
introduction of a general system model. Changes include:
- Marking existing interfaces const and/or override as appropriate
- Adding comments
- Adding BasicTTIImpl interfaces that delegate to a subtarget
implementation
- Adding a default "no information" subtarget implementation
Only a handful of targets use these interfaces currently: AArch64,
Hexagon, PPC and SystemZ. AArch64 already has a custom subtarget
implementation, so its custom TTI implementation is migrated to use
the new facilities in BasicTTIImpl to invoke its custom subtarget
implementation. The custom TTI implementations continue to exist for
the other targets with this change. They are not moved over to
subtarget-based implementations.
The end goal is to have the default subtarget implementation defer to
the system model defined by the target. With this change, the default
subtarget implementation essentially returns "no information" for
these interfaces. None of the existing users of TTI will hit that
implementation because they define their own custom TTI
implementations and won't use the BasicTTIImpl implementations.
Once system models are in place for the targets that use these
interfaces, their custom TTI implementations can be removed.

Summary:
The directive defines a symbol as an group/local memory (LDS) symbol.
LDS symbols behave similar to common symbols for the purposes of ELF,
using the processor-specific SHN_AMDGPU_LDS as section index.
It is the linker and/or runtime loader's job to "instantiate" LDS symbols
and resolve relocations that reference them.
It is not possible to initialize LDS memory (not even zero-initialize
as for .bss).
We want to be able to link together objects -- starting with relocatable
objects, but possible expanding to shared objects in the future -- that
access LDS memory in a flexible way.
LDS memory is in an address space that is entirely separate from the
address space that contains the program image (code and normal data),
so having program segments for it doesn't really make sense.
Furthermore, we want to be able to compile multiple kernels in a
compilation unit which have disjoint use of LDS memory. In that case,
we may want to place LDS symbols differently for different kernels
to save memory (LDS memory is very limited and physically private to
each kernel invocation), so we can't simply place LDS symbols in a
.lds section.
Hence this solution where LDS symbols always stay undefined.

.file/.loc directives, we should instead emit the debug info described

(1) Function descriptor on AIX
On AIX, a called routine may have 2 distinct symbols associated with it:
* A function descriptor (Name)
* A function entry point (.Name)
The descriptor structure on AIX is the same as those in the ELF V1 ABI:
* The address of the entry point of the function.
* The TOC base address for the function.
* The environment pointer.
The descriptor symbol uses the same name as the source level function in C.
The function entry point is analogous to the symbol we would generate for a
function in a non-descriptor-based ABI, except that it is renamed by
prepending a ".".
Which symbol gets referenced depends on the context:
* Taking the address of the function references the descriptor symbol.
* Calling the function references the entry point symbol.
(2) Speaking of implementation on AIX, for direct function call target, we
create proper MCSymbol SDNode(e.g . ".foo") while constructing SDAG to
replace original TargetGlobalAddress SDNode. Then down the path, we can
take advantage of this MCSymbol.

Testing with debuggers shows that our previous behavior was correct.
The reason I thought MSVC did things differently is that MSVC prefers to
use the 0xB combined code offset and code length update opcode when
inline sites are discontiguous.
Keep the test changes, and update the llvm-pdbutil inline line table
dumper to account for this new interpretation of the opcodes.

After improving the inline line table dumper in llvm-pdbutil and looking
at MSVC's inline line tables, it is clear that setting the length of the
inlined code region does not update the code offset. This means that the
delta to the beginning of a new discontiguous inlined code region should
be calculated relative to the last code offset, excluding the length.
Implementing this is a one line fix for MC: simply don't update
LastLabel.
While I'm updating these test cases, switch them to use llvm-objdump -d
and llvm-pdbutil. This allows us to show offsets of each instruction and
correlate the line table offsets to the actual code.

Those two subtarget features were awkward because their semantics are
reversed: each one indicates the _lack_ of support for something in
the architecture, rather than the presence. As a consequence, you
don't get the behavior you want if you combine two sets of feature
bits.
Each SubtargetFeature for an FP architecture version now comes in four
versions, one for each combination of those options. So you can still
say (for example) '+vfp2' in a feature string and it will mean what
it's always meant, but there's a new string '+vfp2d16sp' meaning the
version without those extra options.
A lot of this change is just mechanically replacing positive checks
for the old features with negative checks for the new ones. But one
more interesting change is that I've rearranged getFPUFeatures() so
that the main FPU feature is appended to the output list *before*
rather than after the features derived from the Restriction field, so
that -fp64 and -d32 can override defaults added by the main feature.

This patch implements a limited form of autolinking primarily designed to allow
either the --dependent-library compiler option, or "comment lib" pragmas (
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/preprocessor/comment-c-cpp?view=vs-2017) in
C/C++ e.g. #pragma comment(lib, "foo"), to cause an ELF linker to automatically
add the specified library to the link when processing the input file generated
by the compiler.
Currently this extension is unique to LLVM and LLD. However, care has been taken
to design this feature so that it could be supported by other ELF linkers.
The design goals were to provide:
- A simple linking model for developers to reason about.
- The ability to to override autolinking from the linker command line.
- Source code compatibility, where possible, with "comment lib" pragmas in other
environments (MSVC in particular).
Dependent library support is implemented differently for ELF platforms than on
the other platforms. Primarily this difference is that on ELF we pass the
dependent library specifiers directly to the linker without manipulating them.
This is in contrast to other platforms where they are mapped to a specific
linker option by the compiler. This difference is a result of the greater
variety of ELF linkers and the fact that ELF linkers tend to handle libraries in
a more complicated fashion than on other platforms. This forces us to defer
handling the specifiers to the linker.
In order to achieve a level of source code compatibility with other platforms
we have restricted this feature to work with libraries that meet the following
"reasonable" requirements:
1. There are no competing defined symbols in a given set of libraries, or
if they exist, the program owner doesn't care which is linked to their
program.
2. There may be circular dependencies between libraries.
The binary representation is a mergeable string section (SHF_MERGE,
SHF_STRINGS), called .deplibs, with custom type SHT_LLVM_DEPENDENT_LIBRARIES
(0x6fff4c04). The compiler forms this section by concatenating the arguments of
the "comment lib" pragmas and --dependent-library options in the order they are
encountered. Partial (-r, -Ur) links are handled by concatenating .deplibs
sections with the normal mergeable string section rules. As an example, #pragma
comment(lib, "foo") would result in:

For LTO, equivalent information to the contents of a the .deplibs section can be
retrieved by the LLD for bitcode input files.
LLD processes the dependent library specifiers in the following way:
1. Dependent libraries which are found from the specifiers in .deplibs sections
of relocatable object files are added when the linker decides to include that
file (which could itself be in a library) in the link. Dependent libraries
behave as if they were appended to the command line after all other options. As
a consequence the set of dependent libraries are searched last to resolve
symbols.
2. It is an error if a file cannot be found for a given specifier.
3. Any command line options in effect at the end of the command line parsing apply
to the dependent libraries, e.g. --whole-archive.
4. The linker tries to add a library or relocatable object file from each of the
strings in a .deplibs section by; first, handling the string as if it was
specified on the command line; second, by looking for the string in each of the
library search paths in turn; third, by looking for a lib<string>.a or
lib<string>.so (depending on the current mode of the linker) in each of the
library search paths.
5. A new command line option --no-dependent-libraries tells LLD to ignore the
dependent libraries.
Rationale for the above points:
1. Adding the dependent libraries last makes the process simple to understand
from a developers perspective. All linkers are able to implement this scheme.
2. Error-ing for libraries that are not found seems like better behavior than
failing the link during symbol resolution.
3. It seems useful for the user to be able to apply command line options which
will affect all of the dependent libraries. There is a potential problem of
surprise for developers, who might not realize that these options would apply
to these "invisible" input files; however, despite the potential for surprise,
this is easy for developers to reason about and gives developers the control
that they may require.
4. This algorithm takes into account all of the different ways that ELF linkers
find input files. The different search methods are tried by the linker in most
obvious to least obvious order.
5. I considered adding finer grained control over which dependent libraries were
ignored (e.g. MSVC has /nodefaultlib:<library>); however, I concluded that this
is not necessary: if finer control is required developers can fall back to using
the command line directly.

On PowerPC64 ELFv2 ABI, the top 3 bits of st_other encode the local
entry offset. A versioned symbol alias created by .symver should copy
the bits from the source symbol.
This partly fixes PR41048. A full fix needs tracking of .set assignments
and updating st_other fields when finish() is called, see D56586.

The primary fix here is to WinException.cpp: we need to exclude jump
tables when computing the length of a function, or else we fail to
correctly compute the length. (We can only compute the number of bytes
consumed by certain assembler directives after the entire file is
parsed. ".p2align" is one of those directives, and is used by jump table
generation.)
The secondary fix, to MCWin64EH, is to make sure we don't silently
miscompile if we hit a similar situation in the future.
It's possible we could extend ARM64EmitUnwindInfo so it allows function
bodies that contain assembler directives, but that's a lot more
complicated; see the FIXME in MCWin64EH.cpp.

reflect the requirements of the compressed section.
Currently, llvm-mc always puts uncompressed section alignment to sh_addralign.
It is not correct. zlib styled section contains an Elfxx_Chdr header,
so we should either use 4 or 8 values depending on the target
(Uncompressed section alignment is stored in ch_addralign field of the compression header).
GNU assembler version 2.31.1 also has this issue,
but in 2.32.51 it was already fixed. This is how it was found
during debugging of the https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40482
actually.

Another attempt to land the changes in debug line header to prevent duplicate
files in Dwarf 5. I rolled back my previous commit because of a mistake in
generating the object file in a test. Meanwhile, I addressed some offline
comments and changed the implementation; the largest difference is that
MCDwarfLineTableHeader does not keep DwarfVersion but gets it as a parameter. I
also merged the patch to fix two lld tests that will strt to fail into this
patch.

Motivation: In previous dwarf versions, file name indexes started from 1, and
the primary source file was not explicit. Dwarf 5 standard (6.2.4) prescribes
the primary source file to be explicitly given an entry with an index number 0.
The current implementation honors the specification by just duplicating the
main source file, once with index number 0, and later maybe with another
index number. While this is compliant with the letter of the standard, the
duplication causes problems for consumers of this information such as lldb.
(Some files are duplicated, where only some of them have a line table although
all refer to the same file)
With this change, dwarf 5 debug line section files always start from 0, and
the zeroth entry is not duplicated whenever possible. This requires different
handling of dwarf 4 and dwarf 5 during generation (e.g. when a function returns
an index zero for a file name, it signals an error in dwarf 4, but not in dwarf
5) However, I think the minor complication is worth it, because it enables all
consumers (lldb, gdb, dwarfdump, objdump, and so on) to treat all files in the
file name list homogenously.

This patch has three related fixes to improve float literal lexing:
1. Make AsmLexer::LexDigit handle floats without a decimal point more
consistently.
2. Make AsmLexer::LexFloatLiteral print an error for floats which are
apparently missing an "e".
3. Make APFloat::convertFromString use binutils-compatible exponent
parsing.
Together, this fixes some cases where a float would be incorrectly
rejected, fixes some cases where the compiler would crash, and improves
diagnostics in some cases.

This change implements lowering of references global symbols in PIC
mode.
This change implements lowering of global references in PIC mode using a
new @GOT reference type. @GOT references can be used with function or
data symbol names combined with the get_global instruction. In this case
the linker will insert the wasm global that stores the address of the
symbol (either in memory for data symbols or in the wasm table for
function symbols).
For now I'm continuing to use the R_WASM_GLOBAL_INDEX_LEB relocation
type for this type of reference which means that this relocation type
can refer to either a global or a function or data symbol. We could
choose to introduce specific relocation types for GOT entries in the

Spec says about the first symbol table entry that index 0 both designates the first entry in the table
and serves as the undefined symbol index. It should have zero value.
Hence the first symbol table entry has no name. And so has to have a st_name == 0.

Currently, we do not emit zero value for the first symbol table entry.
That happens because we add empty strings to the string builder, which
for each such case adds a zero byte:

After the string optimization performed it might return non zero indexes for the
empty string requested.
The patch fixes this issue for the case above and other sections with no names.

Summary:
Implements a new target features section in assembly and object files
that records what features are used, required, and disallowed in
WebAssembly objects. The linker uses this information to ensure that
all objects participating in a link are feature-compatible and records
the set of used features in the output binary for use by optimizers
and other tools later in the toolchain.
The "atomics" feature is always required or disallowed to prevent
linking code with stripped atomics into multithreaded binaries. Other
features are marked used if they are enabled globally or on any
function in a module.
Future CLs will add linker flags for ignoring feature compatibility
checks and for specifying the set of allowed features, implement using
the presence of the "atomics" feature to control the type of memory
and segments in the linked binary, and add front-end flags for
relaxing the linkage policy for atomics.

v5 ops that need to reference a base_type.
The new DW_OP_LLVM_convert is used from lib/Transforms/Utils/Local.cpp
to perform sext/zext on debug values but mainly the patch is about
preparing terrain for adding other Dwarf v5 ops that need to reference a
base_type.
For Dwarf v5 the op maps to DW_OP_convert and for earlier versions a
complex shift & mask pattern is generated to emulate sext/zext.
This is a recommit of r356442 with trivial fixes for the failing tests.

This isn't necessary according to the DWARF standard, but it matches the
.eh_frame sections emitted by other tools in practice, and the Android
libunwindstack rejects .eh_frame sections where an FDE refers to a CIE
other than the closest previous CIE. So match the other tools and also
sort accordingly.
I consider this a bug in libunwindstack, but it's easy enough to emit
a compatible .eh_frame section for compatibility with installed
operating systems.

The SubtargetFeature class managed a list of features as strings. And it also had functions for setting bits in a FeatureBitset.
The methods that operated on the Feature list as strings are used in other parts of the backend. But the parts that operate on FeatureBitset are very tightly coupled to MCSubtargetInfo and requires passing in the arrays that MCSubtargetInfo owns. And the same struct type is used for ProcFeatures and ProcDesc.
This has led to MCSubtargetInfo having 2 arrays keyed by CPU name. One containing a mapping from a CPU name to its features. And one containing a mapping from CPU name to its scheduler model.
I would like to make a single CPU array containing all CPU information and remove some unneeded fields the ProcDesc array currently has. But I don't want to make SubtargetFeatures.h have to know about the scheduler model type and have to forward declare or pull in the header file.

Subtarget features are stored in a std::bitset that has been subclassed. There is a special constructor to allow the tablegen files to provide a list of bits to initialize the std::bitset to. This constructor isn't constexpr and std::bitset doesn't support many constexpr operations either. This results in a static global constructor being used to initialize the feature bitsets in these files at startup.
To fix this I've introduced a new FeatureBitArray class that holds three 64-bit values representing the initial bit values and taught tablegen to emit hex constants for them based on the feature enum values. This makes the tablegen files less readable than they were before. I can add the list of features back as a comment if we think that's important.
I've added a method to convert from this class into the std::bitset subclass we had before. I considered making the new FeatureBitArray class just implement the std::bitset interface we need instead, but thought I'd see how others felts about that first.
I've simplified the interfaces to SetImpliedBits and ClearImpliedBits a little minimize the number of times we need to convert to the bitset.
This removes about 27K from my local release+asserts build of llc.

We record the type of the symbol (event/function/data/global) in the
MCWasmSymbol and so it should always be clear how to handle a relocation
based on the symbol itself.
The exception is a function which still needs the special @TYPEINDEX
then the relocation contains the signature rather than the address

This class is used for two difference tablegen generated tables. For one of the tables the Value FeatureBitset only has one bit set. For the other usage the Implies field was unused.
This patch changes the Value field to just be an unsigned. For the usage that put a real vector in bitset, we now use the previously unused Implies field and leave the Value field unused instead.
This is good for a 16K reduction in the size of llc on my local build with all targets enabled.

When a landing pad is calculated in a program that is compiled for micromips
with -fPIC flag, it will point to an even address.
Such an error will cause a segmentation fault, as the instructions in
micromips are aligned on odd addresses. This patch sets the last bit of the
offset where a landing pad is, to 1, which will effectively be an odd
address and point to the instruction exactly.
r344591 fixed this issue for -static compilation.

Summary:
Before r349976, MC ignored such directives when producing an object file
and asserted when re-producing textual assembly output. I turned this
assertion into a hard error in both cases in r349976, but this makes it
unnecessarily difficult to write a single assembly file that supports
both MachO and other object formats that support .file. A user reported
this as PR40578, and we decided to go back to ignoring the directive.

This patch removes hidden codegen flag -print-schedule effectively reverting the
logic originally committed as r300311
(https://llvm.org/viewvc/llvm-project?view=revision&revision=300311).
Flag -print-schedule was originally introduced by r300311 to address PR32216
(https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32216). That bug was about adding "Better
testing of schedule model instruction latencies/throughputs".
These days, we can use llvm-mca to test scheduling models. So there is no longer
a need for flag -print-schedule in LLVM. The main use case for PR32216 is
now addressed by llvm-mca.
Flag -print-schedule is mainly used for debugging purposes, and it is only
actually used by x86 specific tests. We already have extensive (latency and
throughput) tests under "test/tools/llvm-mca" for X86 processor models. That
means, most (if not all) existing -print-schedule tests for X86 are redundant.
When flag -print-schedule was first added to LLVM, several files had to be
modified; a few APIs gained new arguments (see for example method
MCAsmStreamer::EmitInstruction), and MCSubtargetInfo/TargetSubtargetInfo gained
a couple of getSchedInfoStr() methods.
Method getSchedInfoStr() had to originally work for both MCInst and
MachineInstr. The original implmentation of getSchedInfoStr() introduced a
subtle layering violation (reported as PR37160 and then fixed/worked-around by
r330615).
In retrospect, that new API could have been designed more optimally. We can
always query MCSchedModel to get the latency and throughput. More importantly,
the "sched-info" string should not have been generated by the subtarget.
Note, r317782 fixed an issue where "print-schedule" didn't work very well in the
presence of inline assembly. That commit is also reverted by this change.

Linker relaxation may change code size. We need to fix up the alignment
of alignment directive in text section by inserting Nops and R_RISCV_ALIGN
relocation type. So then linker could satisfy the alignment by removing Nops.
To do this:
1. Add shouldInsertExtraNopBytesForCodeAlign target hook to calculate
the Nops we need to insert.
2. Add shouldInsertFixupForCodeAlign target hook to insert
R_RISCV_ALIGN fixup type.

N_FUNC_COLD is a new MachO symbol attribute. It's a hint to the linker
to order a symbol towards the end of its section, to improve locality.

This patch adds a new ReadAdvance definition named ReadInt2Fpu.
ReadInt2Fpu allows x86 scheduling models to accurately describe delays caused by
data transfers from the integer unit to the floating point unit.
ReadInt2Fpu currently defaults to a delay of zero cycles (i.e. no delay) for all
x86 models excluding BtVer2. That means, this patch is only a functional change
for the Jaguar cpu model only.
Tablegen definitions for instructions (V)PINSR* have been updated to account for
the new ReadInt2Fpu. That read is mapped to the the GPR input operand.
On Jaguar, int-to-fpu transfers are modeled as a +6cy delay. Before this patch,
that extra delay was added to the opcode latency. In practice, the insert opcode
only executes for 1cy. Most of the actual latency is actually contributed by the
so-called operand-latency. According to the AMD SOG for family 16h, (V)PINSR*
latency is defined by expression f+1, where f is defined as a forwarding delay
from the integer unit to the fpu.
When printing instruction latency from MCA (see InstructionInfoView.cpp) and LLC
(only when flag -print-schedule is speified), we now need to account for any
extra forwarding delays. We do this by checking if scheduling classes declare
any negative ReadAdvance entries. Quoting a code comment in TargetSchedule.td:
"A negative advance effectively increases latency, which may be used for
cross-domain stalls". When computing the instruction latency for the purpose of
our scheduling tests, we now add any extra delay to the formula. This avoids
regressing existing codegen and mca schedule tests. It comes with the cost of an
extra (but very simple) hook in MCSchedModel.

Summary:
objdump was interpreting the function header containing the locals
declaration as instructions. To parse these without injecting target
specific code in objdump, MCDisassembler::onSymbolStart was added to
be implemented by the WebAssembly implemention.
WasmObjectFile now returns a code offset for the "address" of a symbol,
rather than the index. This is also more in-line with what other
targets do.
Also ensured that the AsmParser correctly puts each function
in its own segment to enable this test case.

There are cases where we have multiple epilogues that have the exact same unwind
code sequence. In that case, the epilogues can share the same unwind codes in
the .xdata section. This should get us past the assert "SEH unwind data
splitting not yet implemented" in many cases.
We still need to add support for generating multiple .pdata/.xdata sections for
those functions that need to be split into fragments.

Summary:
The "single parameter" .file directive appears to be an ELF-only feature
that is intended to insert the main source filename into the string
table table.
I noticed that if you assemble an ELF .s file for COFF, typically it
will assert right away on a .file directive near the top of the file. My
first change was to make this emit a proper error in the asm parser so
that we don't assert so easily.
However, COFF actually does have some support for this directive, and if
you emit an object file, llvm-mc does not assert. When emitting a COFF
object, MC will take those file names and create "debug" symbol table
entries for them. I'm not familiar with these kinds of symbol table
entries, and I'm not aware of any users of them, but @compnerd added
them a while ago. They don't introduce absolute paths, and most main
source file paths are short enough that this extra entry shouldn't cause
any problems, so I enabled the flag in MCAsmInfoCOFF that indicates that
it's supported.
This has the side effect of adding an extra debug symbol to every object
produced by clang, which is a pretty big functional change. My question
is, should we keep the functionality or remove it in the name of symbol
table minimalism?

- When signing return addresses with -msign-return-address=<scope>{+<key>},
either the A key instructions or the B key instructions can be used. To
correctly authenticate the return address, the unwinder/debugger must know
which key was used to sign the return address.
- When and exception is thrown or a break point reached, it may be necessary to
unwind the stack. To accomplish this, the unwinder/debugger must be able to
first authenticate an the return address if it has been signed.
- To enable this, the augmentation string of CIEs has been extended to allow
inclusion of a 'B' character. Functions that are signed using the B key
variant of the instructions should have and FDE whose associated CIE has a 'B'
in the augmentation string.

build version load commands in the object file
This commit introduces a new metadata node called "SDK Version". It will be set
by the frontend to mark the platform SDK (macOS/iOS/etc) version which was used
during that particular compilation.
This node is used when machine code is emitted, by either saving the SDK version
into the appropriate macho load command (version min/build version), or by
emitting the assembly for these load commands with the SDK version specified as
well.
The assembly for both load commands is extended by allowing it to contain the
sdk_version X, Y [, Z] trailing directive to represent the SDK version
respectively.

This improves compatibility with GCC produced object files, where
the .eh_frame sections are read only. With mixed flags for the
involved .eh_frame sections, LLD creates two separate .eh_frame
sections in the output binary, one for each flag combination,
while ld.bfd probably merges them.

Currently, variadic operands on an MCInst are assumed to be uses,
because they come after the defs. However, this is not always the case,
for example the Arm/Thumb LDM instructions write to a variable number of
registers.
This adds a property of instruction definitions which can be used to
mark variadic operands as defs. This only affects MCInst, because
MachineInstruction already tracks use/def per operand in each instance
of the instruction, so can already represent this.
This property can then be checked in MCInstrDesc, allowing us to remove
some special cases in ARMAsmParser::isITBlockTerminator.

In the Arm assembly parser, we first match an instruction, then call
processInstruction to possibly change it to a different encoding, to
match rules in the architecture manual which can't be expressed by the
table-generated matcher.
This adds debug printing so that this process is visible when using the
-debug option.
To support this, I've added a new overload of MCInst::dump_pretty which
takes the opcode name as a StringRef, since we don't have an InstPrinter
instance in the assembly parser. Instead, we can get the same
information directly from the MCInstrInfo.

This patch adds BPF Debug Format (BTF) as a standalone
LLVM debuginfo. The BTF related sections are directly
generated from IR. The BTF debuginfo is generated
only when the compilation target is BPF.
What is BTF?
============
First, the BPF is a linux kernel virtual machine
and widely used for tracing, networking and security.

Basically, the bpf program needs to be compiled with -g with
dwarf sections generated. The pahole is enhanced such that
a .BTF section can be generated based on dwarf. This format
of the .BTF section matches the format expected by
the kernel, so a bpf loader can just take the .BTF section
and load it into the kernel.

What use cases this patch tries to address?
===========================================
Currently, only the bpf instruction stream is required to
pass to the kernel. The kernel verifies it, jits it if configured
to do so, attaches it to a particular kernel attachment point,
and later executes when a particular event happens.
This patch tries to expand BTF to support two more use cases below:
(1). BPF supports subroutine calls.
During performance analysis, it would be good to
differentiate which call is hot instead of just
providing a virtual address. This would require to
pass a unique identifier for each subroutine to
the kernel, the subroutine name is a natual choice.
(2). If a particular jitted instruction is hot, we want
user to know which source line this jitted instruction
belongs to. This would require the source information
is available to various profiling tools.
Note that in a single ELF file,
. there may be multiple loadable bpf programs,
. for a particular to-be-loaded bpf instruction stream,
its instructions may come from multiple PROGBITS sections,
the bpf loader needs to merge them together to a single
consecutive insn stream before loading to the kernel.
For example:

The bpf loader could construct two loadable bpf instruction
streams and load them into the kernel:

So per ELF section function offset and instruction offset
will need to be adjusted before passing to the kernel, and
the kernel essentially expect only one code section regardless
of how many in the ELF file.
What do we propose and Why?
===========================
To support the above two use cases, we propose to
add an additional section, .BTF.ext, to the ELF file
which is the input of the bpf loader. A different section
is preferred since loader may need to manipulate it before
loading part of its data to the kernel.
The .BTF.ext section has a similar header to the .BTF section
and it contains two subsections for func_info and line_info.
. the func_info maps the func insn byte offset to a func
type in the .BTF type subsection.
. the line_info maps the insn byte offset to a line info.
. both func_info and line_info subsections are organized
by ELF PROGBITS AX sections.
pahole is not a good place to implement .BTF.ext as
pahole is mostly for structure hole information and more
importantly, we want to pass the actual code to the kernel.
. bpf program typically is small so storage overhead
should be small.
. in bpf land, it is totally possible that
an application loads the bpf program into the
kernel and then that application quits, so
holding debug info by the user space application
is not practical as you may not even know who
loads this bpf program.
. having source codes directly kept by kernel
would ease deployment since the original source
code does not need ship on every hosts and
kernel-devel package does not need to be
deployed even if kernel headers are used.
LLVM is a good place to implement.
. The only reliable time to get the source code is
during compilation time. This will result in both more
accurate information and easier deployment as
stated in the above.
. Another consideration is for JIT. The project like bcc
(https://github.com/iovisor/bcc)
use MCJIT to compile a C program into bpf insns and
load them to the kernel. The llvm generated BTF sections
will be readily available for such cases as well.
Design and implementation of emiting .BTF/.BTF.ext sections
===========================================================
The BTF debuginfo format is defined. Both .BTF and .BTF.ext
sections are generated directly from IR when both
"-target bpf" and "-g" are specified. Note that
dwarf sections are still generated as dwarf is used
by user space tools like llvm-objdump etc. for BPF target.
This patch also contains tests to verify generated
.BTF and .BTF.ext sections for all supported types, func_info
and line_info subsections. The patch is also tested
against linux kernel bpf sample tests and selftests.

This patch adds support for labels as offsets.
If offset is a forward declared label, MCObjectStreamer keeps the fixup locally
and adds it to the fixups vector after the label (and its offset) is defined.

int). For regsiter numbers > 64 we have to use DW_CFA_restore_extended
instead which uses a ULEB128 value.
I discovered this problem in the out-of-tree CHERI target since we use

Summary:
This is to replace the ELFAsmParser that WebAssembly was using, which
so far was a stub that didn't do anything, and couldn't work correctly
with wasm.
This new class is there to implement generic directives related to
wasm as a binary format. Wasm target specific directives are still
parsed in WebAssemblyAsmParser as before. The two classes now
cooperate more correctly too.

Summary:
This adds dummy implementation of `EmitRawText` in `MCNullStreamer`.
This fixes the behavior of `AsmPrinter` with `MCNullStreamer` on targets
on which no integrated assembler is used. An attempt to emit inline asm
on such a target would previously lead to a crash, since `AsmPrinter` does not
check for `hasRawTextSupport` in `EmitInlineAsm` and calls `EmitRawText`
anyway if integrated assembler is disabled (the behavior has changed
in D2686).

not a call site but a landing pad.
In wasm EH, the VM is responsible for stack unwinding. After an
exception occurs and the stack is unwound, the control flow is
transferred to wasm 'catch' instruction by the VM, after which the
personality function is called from the compiler-generated code. (Refer
to WasmEHPrepare pass for more information on this part.)

make this 1:1 match with a catchpad instruction
- Stores landingpad index info and catch type info MachineFunction in

Summary:
This renames the IsParsingMSInlineAsm member variable of AsmLexer to
LexMasmIntegers and moves it up to MCAsmLexer. This is the only behavior
controlled by that variable. I added a public setter, so that it can be
set from outside or from the llvm-mc command line. We may need to
arrange things so that users can get this behavior from clang, but
that's future work.
I also put additional hex literal lexing functionality under this flag
to fix PR32973. It appears that this hex literal parsing wasn't intended
to be enabled in non-masm-style blocks.
Now, masm integers (0b1101 and 0ABCh) work in __asm blocks from clang,
but 0b label references work when using .intel_syntax in standalone .s
files.
However, 0b label references will *not* work from __asm blocks in clang.
They will work from GCC inline asm blocks, which it sounds like is
important for Crypto++ as mentioned in PR36144.
Essentially, we only lex masm literals for inline asm blobs that use
intel syntax. If the .intel_syntax directive is used inside a gnu-style
inline asm statement, masm literals will not be lexed, which is
compatible with gas and llvm-mc standalone .s assembly.
This fixes PR36144 and PR32973.

If the target does not support `.asciz` and `.ascii` directives, the
strings are represented as bytes and each byte is placed on the new line
as a separate byte directive `.b8 <data>`. NVPTX target allows to
represent the vector of the data of the same type as a vector, where
values are separated using `,` symbol: `.b8 <data1>,<data2>,...`. This
allows to reduce the size of the final PTX file. Ptxas tool includes ptx
files into the resulting binary object, so reducing the size of the PTX
file is important.

I was considering adding another boolean here. I standardized on bools

This avoids a crash (with asserts) or bad codegen (without asserts)
in Dwarf streamer later on. This patch fixes this condition in
MCStreamer and propogates SMLoc down when it's available with an
added bonus of source locations for those specific types of errors.
Further patches could use similar improvements as currently most
non-Windows CFI directives lack an SMLoc parameter.
Modified an existing test to verify source location propogation and
added an object-file version of it to verify that it does not crash in
addition to a standalone test to only ensure it does not crash.

When a landing pad is calculated in a program that is compiled
for micromips, it will point to an even address. Such an error will
cause a segmentation fault, as the instructions in micromips are
aligned on odd addresses. This patch sets the last bit of the offset
where a landing pad is, to 1, which will effectively be
an odd address and point to the instruction exactly.

BTF is the debug format for BPF, a kernel virtual machine
and widely used for tracing, networking and security, etc ([1]).
Currently only instruction streams are passed to kernel,
the kernel verifier verifies them before execution. In order to
provide better visibility of bpf programs to user space
tools, some debug information, e.g., function names and
debug line information are desirable for kernel so tools
can get such information with better annotation
for jited instructions for performance or other reasons.
The dwarf is too complicated in kernel and for BPF.
Hence, BTF is designed to be the debug format for BPF ([2]).
Right now, pahole supports BTF for types, which
are generated based on dwarf sections in the ELF file.
In order to annotate performance metrics for jited bpf insns,
it is necessary to pass debug line info to the kernel.
Furthermore, we want to pass the actual code to the
kernel because of the following reasons:
. bpf program typically is small so storage overhead
should be small.
. in bpf land, it is totally possible that
an application loads the bpf program into the
kernel and then that application quits, so
holding debug info by the user space application

This patch implemented generation of BTF info in llvm
compiler. The BTF related sections will be generated
when both -target bpf and -g are specified. Two sections
are generated:
.BTF contains all the type and string information, and
.BTF.ext contains the func_info and line_info.
The separation is related to how two sections are used
differently in bpf loader, e.g., linux libbpf ([4]).
The .BTF section can be loaded into the kernel directly
while .BTF.ext needs loader manipulation before loading
to the kernel. The format of the each section is roughly
defined in llvm:include/llvm/MC/MCBTFContext.h and
from the implementation in llvm:lib/MC/MCBTFContext.cpp.
A later example also shows the contents in each section.
The type and func_info are gathered during CodeGen/AsmPrinter
by traversing dwarf debug_info. The line_info is
gathered in MCObjectStreamer before writing to
the object file. After all the information is gathered,
the two sections are emitted in MCObjectStreamer::finishImpl.
With cmake CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug, the compiler can
dump out all the tables except insn offset, which
will be resolved later as relocation records.
The debug type "btf" is used for BTFContext dump.
Dwarf tests the debug info generation with
llvm-dwarfdump to decode the binary sections and
check whether the result is expected. Currently
we do not have such a tool yet. We will implement
btf dump functionality in bpftool ([5]) as the bpftool is
considered the recommended tool for bpf introspection.
The implementation for type and func_info is tested
with linux kernel test cases. The line_info is visually
checked with dump from linux kernel libbpf ([4]) and
checked with readelf dumping section raw data.
Note that the .BTF and .BTF.ext information will not
be emitted to assembly code and there is no assembler
support for BTF either.
In the below, with a clang/llvm built with CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug,

git clone https://github.com/yonghong-song/bpf-next-linux.git
cd bpf-next-linux
git checkout btf
The change will push to linux kernel soon once this patch is landed.

For O32 and N32 ABI FDE/CFI encoding should be `DW_EH_PE_sdata4` and only
N64 ABI uses `DW_EH_PE_sdata8`. To cover all cases this patch check code
pointer size and setup a correct FDE/CFI encoding type.
