Simon Pilgrim 32857c54d2 [X86][SSE] Lower shuffles to permute(unpack(x,y)) (PR31151)
Attempt to lower a shuffle as an unpack of elements from two inputs followed by a single-input (wider) permutation.

As long as the permutation is wider this is a win - there may be some circumstances where same size permutations would also be useful but I've left that for future work.

Simon Pilgrim 6b9bf7ecbc [X86][AVX] Prefer VPBLENDW+VPBLENDD to VPBLENDVB for v16i16 blend shuffles
Noticed while looking at D49562 codegen - we can avoid a large constant mask load and a slow VPBLENDVB select op by using VPBLENDW+VPBLENDD instead.

TODO: As discussed on the patch, we should investigate adding VPBLENDVB handling to target shuffle combining as well, that will allow us to extend this to VPBLENDW+VPBLENDW+VPBLENDD.

Sanjay Patel 8a84c747d2 [x86] try harder to use broadcast to load a scalar into vector reg
This is a preliminary step for a preliminary step for D50992.
I noticed that x86 often misses chances to load a scalar directly
into a vector register.

So this patch is just allowing more of those cases to match a
broadcast op in lowerBuildVectorAsBroadcast(). The old code comment
said it doesn't make sense to use a broadcast when we're loading a
single element and everything else is undef, but I think that's the
best case in the improved tests in insert-loaded-scalar.ll. We avoid
scalar-to-vector-register move and/or less efficient shuffling.

Note that there are some existing types that were already producing
a broadcast, but that happens semi-accidentally. Ie, it's not
happening as part of lowerBuildVectorAsBroadcast(). The build vector
gets expanded into load + shuffle, and then shuffle lowering produces
the broadcast.

Description of the other test diffs:
1. avx-basic.ll - replacing load+shufle is a win.
2. sse3-avx-addsub-2.ll - vmovddup vs. vbroadcastss is neutral
3. sse41.ll - don't care - we convert that intrinsic to generic IR now, so this test is deprecated
4. vector-shuffle-128-v8.ll / vector-shuffle-256-v16.ll - pshufb alternatives with an extra instruction are not obviously bad

Craig Topper 08e082619a [X86] Improve AVX1 shuffle lowering for v8f32 shuffles where the low half comes from V1 and the high half comes from V2 and the halves do the same operation
To lower this we now create a new V1 containing the low half of both sources and a new V2 containing the upper half of both sources. Then we created a repeated lane shuffle of those new sources to create the final result.

Craig Topper 247016a735 [X86] Use vptestm/vptestnm for comparisons with zero to avoid creating a zero vector.
We can use the same input for both operands to get a free compare with zero.

We already use this trick in a couple places where we explicitly create PTESTM with the same input twice. This generalizes it.

I'm hoping to remove the ISD opcodes and move this to isel patterns like we do for scalar cmp/test.

Simon Pilgrim c701596e86 [X86][SSE] Match PSHUFLW/PSHUFHW + PSHUFD vXi16 shuffle patterns (PR34686)
As noted in PR34686, we are relying on a PSHUFD+PSHUFLW+PSHUFHW shuffle chain for most general vXi16 unary shuffles.

This patch checks for simpler PSHUFLW+PSHUFD and PSHUFHW+PSHUFD cases beforehand, building on some existing code that just handled splat shuffles.

By doing so we also prevent premature use of PSHUFB shuffles which can be slower and require the creation/loading of constant shuffle masks.

We now have the 'fast-variable-shuffle' option for hardware that prefers combining 2 or more shuffles to VPSHUFB etc.

Simon Pilgrim fd5df639a3 [X86][SSE] Add cpu feature for aggressive combining to variable shuffles
As mentioned in D38318 and D40865, modern Intel processors prefer to combine multiple shuffles to a variable shuffle mask (PSHUFB/VPERMPS etc.) instead of having multiple stage 'fixed' shuffles which put more pressure on Port 5 (at the expense of extra shuffle mask loads).

This patch provides a FeatureFastVariableShuffle target flag for Haswell+ CPUs that prefers combining 2 or more fixed shuffles to a single variable shuffle (default is 3 shuffles).

The long term aim is to drive more of this from schedule data (probably via the MC) but we're not close to being ready for that yet.

The shuffle combining and lowerVectorShuffleAsLanePermuteAndBlend were both still trying to use VPERM2XF128 for unary shuffles when AVX2 is enabled. VPERM2X128 takes two inputs meaning when we use it for a unary shuffle one of those inputs is left undefined creating a false dependency on whatever register gets allocated there.

If we have VPERMQ/PD we should prefer those since they only have a single input.

Craig Topper cb0e74975a [AVX-512] Remove patterns that select vmovdqu8/16 for unmasked loads. Prefer vmovdqa64/vmovdqu64 instead.
These were taking priority over the aligned load instructions since there is no vmovda8/16. I don't think there is really a difference between aligned and unaligned on newer cpus so I don't think it matters which instructions we use.

But with this change we reduce the size of the isel table a little and we allow the aligned information to pass through to the evex->vec pass and produce the same output has avx/avx2 in some cases.

I also generally dislike patterns rooted in a bitcast which these were.

Craig Topper 058f2f6d72 [AVX-512] Fix accidental uses of AH/BH/CH/DH after copies to/from mask registers
We've had several bugs(PR32256, PR32241) recently that resulted from usages of AH/BH/CH/DH either before or after a copy to/from a mask register.

This ultimately occurs because we create COPY_TO_REGCLASS with VK1 and GR8. Then in CopyToFromAsymmetricReg in X86InstrInfo we find a 32-bit super register for the GR8 to emit the KMOV with. But as these tests are demonstrating, its possible for the GR8 register to be a high register and we end up doing an accidental extra or insert from bits 15:8.

I think the best way forward is to stop making copies directly between mask registers and GR8/GR16. Instead I think we should restrict to only copies between mask registers and GR32/GR64 and use EXTRACT_SUBREG/INSERT_SUBREG to handle the conversion from GR32 to GR16/8 or vice versa.

Unfortunately, this complicates fastisel a bit more now to create the subreg extracts where we used to create GR8 copies. We can probably make a helper function to bring down the repitition.

This does result in KMOVD being used for copies when BWI is available because we don't know the original mask register size. This caused a lot of deltas on tests because we have to split the checks for KMOVD vs KMOVW based on BWI.

Gadi Haber 19c4fc5e62 This is a large patch for X86 AVX-512 of an optimization for reducing code size by encoding EVEX AVX-512 instructions using the shorter VEX encoding when possible.
There are cases of AVX-512 instructions that have two possible encodings. This is the case with instructions that use vector registers with low indexes of 0 - 15 and do not use the zmm registers or the mask k registers.
The EVEX encoding prefix requires 4 bytes whereas the VEX prefix can take only up to 3 bytes. Consequently, using the VEX encoding for these instructions results in a code size reduction of ~2 bytes even though it is compiled with the AVX-512 features enabled.
