Jordan Rose 42ee04d00a [analyzer] Add a test that we are, in fact, doing a DFS on the ExplodedGraph.
Previously:
...the comment said DFS...
...the WorkList being instantiated said BFS...
...and the implementation was actually DFS...
...due to an unintentional change in 2010...
...and everything kept working anyway.

This fixes our std::deque implementation of BFS, but switches back to a
SmallVector-based implementation of DFS.

We should probably still investigate the ramifications of DFS vs. BFS,
especially for large functions (and especially when we hit our block path
limit), since this might completely change our memory use. It can also mask
some bugs and reveal others depending on when we halt analysis. But at least
we will not have this kind of little mistake creep in again.

Richard Trieu 9184423984 Add template type diffing to Clang. This feature will provide a better
comparison between two templated types when they both appear in a diagnostic.
Type elision will remove indentical template arguments, which can be disabled
with -fno-elide-type. Cyan highlighting is applied to the differing types.

For more formatting, -fdiagnostic-show-template-tree will output the template
type as an indented text tree, with differences appearing inline. Template
tree works with or without type elision.

Fariborz Jahanian 6362803cfe block literal irgen: several improvements on naming block
literal helper functions. All helper functions (global
and locals) use block_invoke as their prefix. Local literal
helper names are prefixed by their enclosing mangled function
names. Blocks in non-local initializers (e.g. a global variable
or a C++11 field) are prefixed by their mangled variable name.
The descriminator number added to end of the name starts off
with blank (for first block) and _<N> (for the N+2-th block).

David Blaikie 368055211a PR12937: Explicitly deleting an explicit template specialization.
This works around a quirk in the way that explicit template specializations are
handled in Clang. We generate an implicit declaration from the original
template which the explicit specialization is considered to redeclare. This
trips up the explicit delete logic.

This change only works around that strange representation. At some point it'd
be nice to remove those extra declarations to make the AST more accurately
reflect the C++ semantics.

resulted in it being reverted. A test for that bug was added in r158950.

Original comment:

If an object (such as a std::string) with an appropriate c_str() member function
is passed to a variadic function in a position where a format string indicates
that c_str()'s return type is desired, provide a note suggesting that the user
may have intended to call the c_str() member.

Factor the non-POD-vararg checking out of DefaultVariadicArgumentPromotion and
move it to SemaChecking in order to facilitate this. Factor the call checking
out of function call checking and block call checking, and extend it to cover
constructor calls too.

choose a TLS model that is better than what LLVM would select by
default. For example, a variable might be declared as:

Alexis Hunt 6aa9beef50 Clean up a large number of C++11 attribute parse issues, including parsing
attributes in more places where we didn't and catching a lot more issues.

This implements nearly every aspect of C++11 attribute parsing, except for:
 - Attributes are permitted on explicit instantiations inside the declarator
   (but not preceding the decl-spec)
 - Attributes are permitted on friend declarations of functions.
 - Multiple instances of the same attribute in an attribute-list (e.g.
[[noreturn, noreturn]], not [[noreturn]] [[noreturn]] which is conforming)
   are allowed.
The first two are marked as expected-FIXME in the test file and the latter
is probably a defect and is currently untested.

Jordan Rose 422080f547 Pretend that enum constants have enum type when inferring a block return type.
In C, enum constants have the type of the enum's underlying integer type,
rather than the type of the enum. (This is not true in C++.) This leads to
odd warnings when returning enum constants directly in blocks with inferred
return types. The easiest way out of this is to pretend that, like C++, enum
constants have enum type when being returned from a block.

Jordan Rose 815fe26ed3 Don't warn for -Wstatic-in-inline if the used function is also inline.
Also, don't warn if the used function is __attribute__((const)), in which case
it's not supposed to use global variables anyway.

The inline-in-inline thing is a heuristic, and one that's possibly incorrect
fairly often because the function being inlined could definitely use global
variables. However, even some C standard library functions are written using
other (trivial) static-inline functions in the headers, and we definitely don't
want to be warning on that (or on anything that /uses/ these trivial inline
functions). So we're using "inlined" as a marker for "fairly trivial".

(Note that __attribute__((pure)) does /not/ guarantee safety like ((const),
because ((const)) does not guarantee that global variables are not being used,
and the warning is about globals not being shared across TUs.)

Now that this is a C-only warning, we can use "static" instead of "internal

Jordan Rose de9e976468 Remove -Winternal-linkage-in-inline in C++.
It's very easy for anonymous external linkage to propagate in C++ through
return types and parameter types. Likewise, it's possible that a template
containing an inline function is only used with parameters that have internal
linkage. Actually diagnosing where the internal linkage comes from is fairly
difficult (both to locate and then to print nicely). Finally, since we only
have one translation unit available, we can't even prove that any of this
violates the ODR.

This warning needs better-defined behavior in C++ before it can really go in.

Rewording of the C warning (which /is/ specified by C99) coming shortly.

John McCall 5fb5df9c83 Restructure how the driver communicates information about the
target Objective-C runtime down to the frontend: break this
down into a single target runtime kind and version, and compute
all the relevant information from that. This makes it
relatively painless to add support for new runtimes to the
compiler. Make the new -cc1 flag, -fobjc-runtime=blah-x.y.z,
available at the driver level as a better and more general
alternative to -fgnu-runtime and -fnext-runtime. This new
concept of an Objective-C runtime also encompasses what we
were previously separating out as the "Objective-C ABI", so
fragile vs. non-fragile runtimes are now really modelled as
different kinds of runtime, paving the way for better overall
differentiation.

As a sort of special case, continue to accept the -cc1 flag
-fobjc-runtime-has-weak, as a sop to PLCompatibilityWeak.

I won't go so far as to say "no functionality change", even
ignoring the new driver flag, but subtle changes in driver
semantics are almost certainly not intended.

Jordan Rose 44320367ac [analyzer] Invalidate placement args; return the pointer given to placement new
The default global placement new just returns the pointer it is given.
Note that other custom 'new' implementations with placement args are not
guaranteed to do this.

In addition, we need to invalidate placement args, since they may be updated by
the allocator function. (Also, right now we don't properly handle the
constructor inside a CXXNewExpr, so we need to invalidate the placement args
just so that callers know something changed!)

This invalidation is not perfect because CallOrObjCMessage doesn't support
CXXNewExpr, and all of our invalidation callbacks expect that if there's no
CallOrObjCMessage, the invalidation is happening manually (e.g. by a direct
assignment) and shouldn't affect checker-specific metadata (like malloc state);
hence the malloc test case in new-fail.cpp. But region values are now
properly invalidated, at least.

The long-term solution to this problem is to rework CallOrObjCMessage into
something more general, rather than the morass of branches it is today.

Jordan Rose de409b6d5f [analyzer] Buffers passed to CGBitmapContextCreate can escape.
Specifically, although the bitmap context does not take ownership of the
buffer (unlike CGBitmapContextCreateWithData), the data buffer can be extracted
out of the created CGContextRef. Thus the buffer is not leaked even if its
original pointer goes out of scope, as long as
- the context escapes, or
- it is retrieved via CGBitmapContextGetData and freed.

This is explicitly forbidden in C99 6.7.4p3. This is /not/ forbidden in C++,
probably because by default file-scope const/constexpr variables have internal

Hal Finkel 8eb5928514 Add PPC support for translating gcc-style -mcpu options into LLVM -target-cpu options.
This functionality is based on what is done on ARM, and enables selecting PPC CPUs
in a way compatible with gcc's driver. Also, mirroring gcc (and what is done on x86),
-mcpu=native support was added. This uses the host cpu detection from LLVM
(which will also soon be updated by refactoring code currently in backend).

Objective-C literals conceptually always create new objects, but may be
optimized by the compiler or runtime (constant folding, singletons, etc).
Comparing addresses of these objects is relying on this optimization
behavior, which is really an implementation detail.

In the case of == and !=, offer a fixit to a call to -isEqual:, if the
method is available. This fixit is directly on the error so that it is
automatically applied.

Most of the time, this is really a newbie mistake, hence the fixit.

This is a stopgap solution, which still doesn't cover the case of a class with

Jordan Rose de1a29277e Disable _Pragma during HTML macro rewriting to keep from crashing.
The preprocessor's handling of diagnostic push/pops is stateful, so
encountering pragmas during a re-parse causes problems. HTMLRewrite
already filters out normal # directives including #pragma, so it's
clear it's not expected to be interpreting pragmas in this mode.

This fix adds a flag to Preprocessor to explicitly disable pragmas.
The "right" fix might be to separate pragma lexing from pragma
parsing so that we can throw away pragmas like we do preprocessor
directives, but right now it's important to get the fix in.

Note that this has nothing to do with the "hack" of re-using the
input preprocessor in HTMLRewrite. Even if we someday copy the
preprocessor instead of re-using it, the copy would (and should) include
the diagnostic level tables and have the same problems.

Jordan Rose ccf43ca05c Add pedantic warning -Wempty-translation-unit (C11 6.9p1).
In standard C since C89, a 'translation-unit' is syntactically defined to have
at least one "external-declaration", which is either a decl or a function
definition. In Clang the latter gives us a declaration as well.

The tricky bit about this warning is that our predefines can contain external
declarations (__builtin_va_list and the 128-bit integer types). Therefore our
AST parser now makes sure we have at least one declaration that doesn't come
from the predefines buffer.

Also, remove bogus warning about empty source files. This doesn't catch source
files that only contain comments, and never fired anyway because of our
predefines.

Jordan Rose 97c6f2b9e5 Teach format string checking about compile-time CFString constants.
Within the guts of CheckFormatHandler, the IsObjCLiteral flag was being used in
two ways: to see if null bytes were allowed, and to see if the '%@' specifier
is allowed.* The former usage has been changed to an explicit test and the
latter pushed down to CheckPrintfHandler and renamed ObjCContext, since it
applies to CFStrings as well.

* This also changes how wide chars are interpreted; in OS X Foundation, the
wide character type is 'unichar', a typedef for short, rather than wchar_t.

Richard Smith eb3cad53e7 Add a warning for when an array-to-pointer decay is performed on an array
temporary or an array subobject of a class temporary, and the resulting value
is used to initialize a pointer which outlives the temporary. Such a pointer
is always left dangling after the initialization completes and the array's
lifetime ends.

In order to detect this situation, this change also adds an
LValueClassification of LV_ArrayTemporary for temporaries of array type which
aren't subobjects of class temporaries. These occur in C++11 T{...} and GNU C++
(T){...} expressions, when T is an array type. Previously we treated the former
as a generic prvalue and the latter as a class temporary.

This is a large class of false positives where anonymous enums are used to
declare constants (see Clang's Diagnostics.h for example). A small number of
true positives could probably be found in this bucket by still warning if the
anonymous enum is used in a declarator (enum { ... } x;) but so far we don't
believe this to be a source of significant benefit so I haven't bothered to
preserve those cases.

Richard Smith 1bb8edb8ac In response to some discussions on IRC, tweak the wording of the new

of the issue may be a condition which must always evaluate to true or
false, rather than an uninitialized variable.

To emphasize this, add a new note with a fixit which removes the
impossible condition or replaces it with a constant.

Also, downgrade the diagnostic from -Wsometimes-uninitialized to
-Wconditional-uninitialized when it applies to a range-based for loop,
since the condition is not written explicitly in the code in that case.

Richard Smith 4323bf8e2e Split a chunk of -Wconditional-uninitialized warnings out into a separate flag,

This chunk of warnings tentatively lives within -Wuninitialized, in order to
give it more visibility to existing Clang users.

David Blaikie 18e9ac7914 Don't warn when NULL is used within a macro but its conversion is outside a macro.
This fixes the included test case & was reported by Nico Weber.

It's a little bit nasty using the difference in the conversion context, but
seems to me like a not unreasonable solution. I did have to fix up the
conversion context for conditional operators (it seems correct to me to include
the context for which we're actually doing the comparison - across all the
nested conditionals, rather than the innermost conditional which might not
actually have the problematic implicit conversion at all) and template default
arguments (this is a bit of a hack, since we don't have the source location of
the '=' anymore, so I just used the start of the parameter - open to
suggestions there)

John McCall 8b3f5ffb0a Change the mangling of a ref-qualifier on a function type so that
it is placed in a position which is never ambiguous with a
reference-to-function type. This follows some recent discussion
and ensuing proposal on cxx-abi-dev. It is not necessary to
change the mangling of CV-qualifiers because you cannot
apply CV-qualification in the normal sense to a function type.
It is not necessary to change the mangling of ref-qualifiers on
method declarations because they appear in an unambiguous
location.

In addition, mangle CV-qualifiers and ref-qualifiers on function
types when they occur in positions other than member pointers
(that is, when they appear as template arguments).

This is a minor ABI break with previous releases of clang. It
is not considered critical because (1) ref-qualifiers are
relatively rare, since AFAIK we're the only implementing compiler,
and (2) they're particularly likely to come up in contexts that
do not rely on the ODR for correctness. We apologize for any
inconvenience; this is the right thing to do.

Rafael Espindola c67f223c9e Fix an old (2009) FIXME:
// FIXME: This needs to happen before we merge declarations. Then,
// let attribute merging cope with attribute conflicts.

This was already being done for variables, but for functions we were merging
then first and then applying the attributes. To avoid duplicating merging
logic, some of the helpers in SemaDeclAttr.cpp become methods that can
handle merging two attributes in one decl or inheriting attributes from one
decl to another.

With this change we are now able to produce errors for variables with
incompatible visibility attributes or warn about unused dllimports in
variables.

This changes the attribute list iteration back to being in reverse source
code order, as that matches what decl merging does and avoids differentiating
the two cases is the merge*Attr methods.

Richard Smith 6f8d2c6c9c A little tweak to the SFINAE condition reporting. Don't say:
candidate template ignored: substitution failed [with T = int]: no type named 'type' in 'std::enable_if<false, void>'

Instead, just say:

candidate template ignored: disabled by 'enable_if' [with T = int]

... and point at the enable_if condition which (we assume) failed.

This is applied to all cases where the user writes 'typename enable_if<...>::type' (optionally prefixed with a nested name specifier), and 'enable_if<...>' names a complete class type which does not have a member named 'type', and this results in a candidate function being ignored in a SFINAE context. Thus it catches 'std::enable_if', 'std::__1::enable_if', 'boost::enable_if' and 'llvm::enable_if'.

Jordy Rose 728be7f6ac [analyzer] Rework both constraint managers to handle mixed-type comparisons.
This involves keeping track of three separate types: the symbol type, the
adjustment type, and the comparison type. For example, in "$x + 5 > 0ULL",
if the type of $x is 'signed char', the adjustment type is 'int' and the
comparison type is 'unsigned long long'. Most of the time these three types
will be the same, but we should still do the right thing when the
comparison value is out of range, and wraparound should be calculated in
the adjustment type.

This also re-disables an out-of-bounds test; we were extracting the symbol
from non-additive SymIntExprs, but then throwing away the integer.

Sorry for the large patch; both the basic and range constraint managers needed
to be updated together, since they share code in SimpleConstraintManager.

Richard Smith 9ca6461f5a When we suppress an error due to SFINAE, stash the diagnostic away with the
overload candidate, and include its message in any subsequent 'candidate not
viable due to substitution failure' note we may produce.

To keep the note small (since the 'overload resolution failed' diagnostics are
often already very verbose), the text of the SFINAE diagnostic is included as
part of the text of the note, and any notes which were attached to it are
discarded.

There happened to be spare space in OverloadCandidate into which a
PartialDiagnosticAt could be squeezed, and this patch goes to lengths to avoid
unnecessary PartialDiagnostic copies, resulting in no slowdown that I could
measure. (Removal in passing of some PartialDiagnostic copies has resulted in a
slightly smaller clang binary overall.) Even on a torture test, I was unable to
measure a memory increase of above 0.2%.

Jordy Rose 54569448f8 [analyzer] Reduce parallel code paths in SimpleSValBuilder::evalBinOpNN, and handle mixed-type operations more generally.
The logical change is that the integers in SymIntExprs may not have the same type as the symbols they are paired with. This was already the case with taint-propagation expressions created by SValBuilder::makeSymExprValNN, but I think those integers may never have been used. SimpleSValBuilder should be able to handle mixed-integer-type SymIntExprs fine now, though, and the constraint managers were already being defensive (though not entirely correct). All existing tests pass.

The logic in evalBinOpNN has been simplified so that conversion is done as late as possible. As a result, most of the switch cases have been reduced to do the minimal amount of work, delegating to another case when they can by substituting ConcreteInts and (as before) reversing the left and right arguments when useful.

Comparisons require special handling in two places (building SymIntExprs and evaluating constant-constant operations) because we don't /know/ the best type for comparing the two values. I've approximated the rules in Sema [C99 6.3.1.8] but it'd be nice to refactor Sema's actual algorithm into ASTContext.

This is also groundwork for handling mixed-type constraints better than we do now.

Rafael Espindola 2d243bfe2f Split mergeAvailabilityAttr out of handleAvailabilityAttr. This is important
for having a uniform logic for adding attributes to a decl. This in turn
is needed to fix the FIXME:

// FIXME: This needs to happen before we merge declarations. Then,
// let attribute merging cope with attribute conflicts.
  ProcessDeclAttributes(S, NewFD, D,
                        /*NonInheritable=*/false, /*Inheritable=*/true);

The idea is that mergeAvailabilityAttr will become a method. Once attributes
are processed before merging, it will be called from handleAvailabilityAttr to
handle multiple attributes in one decl:

void f(int) __attribute__((availability(ios,deprecated=3.0),
                           availability(ios,introduced=2.0)));

and from SemaDecl.cpp to handle multiple decls:

void f(int) __attribute__((availability(ios,deprecated=3.0)));
void f(int) __attribute__((availability(ios,introduced=2.0)));

As a bonus, use the new structure to diagnose incompatible availability
attributes added to different decls (see included testcases).

Anna Zaks b35437a85e [analyzer] Construct a SymExpr even when the constraint solver cannot
reason about the expression.

This essentially keeps more history about how symbolic values were
constructed. As an optimization, previous to this commit, we only kept
the history if one of the symbols was tainted, but it's valuable keep
the history around for other purposes as well: it allows us to avoid
constructing conjured symbols.

Specifically, we need to identify the value of ptr as
ElementRegion (result of pointer arithmetic) in the following code.
However, before this commit '(2-x)' evaluated to Unknown value, and as
the result, 'p + (2-x)' evaluated to Unknown value as well.

int *p = malloc(sizeof(int));
ptr = p + (2-x);

David Blaikie 7afed5e5bf PR12710 - broken default argument handling for templates.
I broke this in r155838 by not actually instantiating non-dependent default arg
expressions. The motivation for that change was to avoid producing duplicate
conversion warnings for such default args (we produce them once when we parse
the template - there's no need to produce them at each instantiation) but
without actually instantiating the default arg, things break in weird ways.

Technically, I think we could still get the right diagnostic experience without
the bugs if we instantiated the non-dependent args (for non-dependent params
only) immediately, rather than lazily. But I'm not sure if such a refactoring/
change would be desirable so here's the conservative fix for now.

Julien Lerouge 4a5b444371 Currently __builtin_annotation() only annotates an i32.
i32 __builtin_annotation(i32, string);

Applying it to i64 (e.g., long long) generates the following IR.

        trunc i64 {{.*}} to i32
        call i32 @llvm.annotation.i32
        zext i32 {{.*}} to i64

The redundant truncation and extension make the result difficult to use.

This patch makes __builtin_annotation() generic.

        type __builtin_annotation(type, string);

For the i64 example, it simplifies the generated IR to:

        call i64 @llvm.annotation.i64

Anna Zaks 7e53bd6fb0 [analyzer] Run remove dead bindings right before leaving a function.
This is needed to ensure that we always report issues in the correct
function. For example, leaks are identified when we call remove dead
bindings. In order to make sure we report a callee's leak in the callee,
we have to run the operation in the callee's context.

This change required quite a bit of infrastructure work since:
 - We used to only run remove dead bindings before a given statement;
here we need to run it after the last statement in the function. For
this, we added additional Program Point and special mode in the
SymbolReaper to remove all symbols in context lower than the current
one.
 - The call exit operation turned into a sequence of nodes, which are
now guarded by CallExitBegin and CallExitEnd nodes for clarity and
convenience.

Kaelyn Uhrain b3967d7fdc In Parser::isCXXDeclarationSpecifier, consider a non-type identifier
followed by an identifier as declaration specificer (except for ObjC).
This allows e.g. an out-of-line C++ member function definitions to be
recognized as functions and not as variable declarations if the type
name for the first parameter is not recognized as a type--say, when there
is a function name shadowing an enum type name and the parameter is
missing the "enum" keyword needed to distinguish the two.

Note that returning TPResult::Error() instead of TPResult::True()

members. Expand the comments to explain why that works.

Rafael Espindola 1280fe6245 In mergeVisibilityWithMin, let an implicit hidden symbol take precedence over
an explicit default one. This means that with -fvisibility hidden we
now produce a hidden symbol for

  void bar() {}
};
class zed {};
template class foo<zed>;

This matches the behaviour of gcc 4.7.

Richard Smith f623c96260 Implement DR1330 in C++11 mode, to support libstdc++4.7 which uses it.
We have a new flavor of exception specification, EST_Uninstantiated. A function
type with this exception specification carries a pointer to a FunctionDecl, and
the exception specification for that FunctionDecl is instantiated (if needed)
and used in the place of the function type's exception specification.

When a function template declaration with a non-trivial exception specification
is instantiated, the specialization's exception specification is set to this
new 'uninstantiated' kind rather than being instantiated immediately.

Expr::CanThrow has migrated onto Sema, so it can instantiate exception specs
on-demand. Also, any odr-use of a function triggers the instantiation of its
exception specification (the exception specification could be needed by IRGen).
In passing, fix two places where a DeclRefExpr was created but the corresponding
function was not actually marked odr-used. We used to get away with this, but
don't any more.

Also fix a bug where instantiating an exception specification which refers to
function parameters resulted in a crash. We still have the same bug in default
arguments, which I'll be looking into next.

This, plus a tiny patch to fix libstdc++'s common_type, is enough for clang to
parse (and, in very limited testing, support) all of libstdc++4.7's standard
headers.

Douglas Gregor 3024f07c12 Implement C++11 [expr.prim.general]p3, which permits the use of 'this'
in the declaration of a non-static member function after the
(optional) cv-qualifier-seq, which in practice means in the exception
specification and late-specified return type.

The new scheme here used to manage 'this' outside of a member function
scope is more general than the Scope-based mechanism previously used
for non-static data member initializers and late-parsesd attributes,
because it can also handle the cv-qualifiers on the member
function. Note, however, that a separate pass is required for static
member functions to determine whether 'this' was used, because we
might not know that we have a static function until after declaration
matching.

Finally, this introduces name mangling for 'this' and for the implicit
'this', which is intended to match GCC's mangling. Independent
verification for the new mangling test case would be appreciated.

Richard Smith 01ba47d7b6 Implement the missing pieces needed to support libstdc++4.7's <atomic>:
__atomic_test_and_set, __atomic_clear, plus a pile of undocumented __GCC_*
predefined macros.

Implement library fallback for __atomic_is_lock_free and
__c11_atomic_is_lock_free, and implement __atomic_always_lock_free.

Contrary to their documentation, GCC's __atomic_fetch_add family don't
multiply the operand by sizeof(T) when operating on a pointer type.
libstdc++ relies on this quirk. Remove this handling for all but the
__c11_atomic_fetch_add and __c11_atomic_fetch_sub builtins.

Contrary to their documentation, __atomic_test_and_set and __atomic_clear
take a first argument of type 'volatile void *', not 'void *' or 'bool *',
and __atomic_is_lock_free and __atomic_always_lock_free have an argument
of type 'const volatile void *', not 'void *'.

With this change, libstdc++4.7's <atomic> passes libc++'s atomic test suite,
except for a couple of libstdc++ bugs and some cases where libc++'s test
suite tests for properties which implementations have latitude to vary.

This is not quite sufficient for libstdc++'s <atomic>: we still need
__atomic_test_and_set and __atomic_clear, and may need a more complete
__atomic_is_lock_free implementation.

We are also missing an implementation of __atomic_always_lock_free,
__atomic_nand_fetch, and __atomic_fetch_nand, but those aren't needed
for libstdc++.
