David Blaikie 8bf66c4f3f DebugInfo: Emit relocation to debug_line section when emitting asm for asm
I don't think this is reachable by any frontend (why would you transform
asm to asm+debug info?) but it helps tidy up some of this code, avoid
the weird special case of "emit the first CU, store the label, then emit
the rest" in MCDwarfLineTable::Emit by instead having the
DWARF-for-assembly case use the same codepath as DwarfDebug.cpp, by
registering the label of the debug_line section, thus causing it to be
emitted. (with a special case in asm output to just emit the label since
asm output uses the .loc directives, etc, rather than the debug_loc
directly)

Benjamin Kramer 3ad660a515 Detemplatize LOHDirective.
The ARM64 backend uses it only as a container to keep an MCLOHType and
Arguments around so give it its own little copy. The other functionality
isn't used and we had a crazy method specialization hack in place to
keep it working. Unfortunately that was incompatible with MSVC.

Also range-ify a couple of loops while at it.

Tim Northover 00ed9964c6 ARM64: initial backend import
This adds a second implementation of the AArch64 architecture to LLVM,
accessible in parallel via the "arm64" triple. The plan over the
coming weeks & months is to merge the two into a single backend,
during which time thorough code review should naturally occur.

Everything will be easier with the target in-tree though, hence this
commit.

Tim Northover d1c6f51730 MC-exceptions: add support for compact-unwind without .eh_frame
ARM64 has compact-unwind information, but doesn't necessarily want to
emit .eh_frame directives as well. This teaches MC about such a
situation so that it will skip .eh_frame info when compact unwind has
been successfully produced.

For functions incompatible with compact unwind, the normal information
is still written.

The upcoming ARM64 backend doesn't have section-relative relocations,

linker-private is the best kind for this purpose.

Rafael Espindola 5904e12bfa Completely rewrite ELFObjectWriter::RecordRelocation.
I started trying to fix a small issue, but this code has seen a small fix too
many.

The old code was fairly convoluted. Some of the issues it had:

* It failed to check if a symbol difference was in the some section when
  converting a relocation to pcrel.
* It failed to check if the relocation was already pcrel.
* The pcrel value computation was wrong in some cases (relocation-pc.s)
* It was missing quiet a few cases where it should not convert symbol
  relocations to section relocations, leaving the backends to patch it up.
* It would not propagate the fact that it had changed a relocation to pcrel,
  requiring a quiet nasty work around in ARM.
* It was missing comments.

Saleem Abdulrasool edbdd2e5df Canonicalise Windows target triple spellings
Construct a uniform Windows target triple nomenclature which is congruent to the
Linux counterpart. The old triples are normalised to the new canonical form.
This cleans up the long-standing issue of odd naming for various Windows
environments.

There are four different environments on Windows:

MSVC: The MS ABI, MSVCRT environment as defined by Microsoft
GNU: The MinGW32/MinGW32-W64 environment which uses MSVCRT and auxiliary libraries
Itanium: The MSVCRT environment + libc++ built with Itanium ABI
Cygnus: The Cygwin environment which uses custom libraries for everything

The following spellings are now written as:

i686-pc-win32 => i686-pc-windows-msvc
i686-pc-mingw32 => i686-pc-windows-gnu
i686-pc-cygwin => i686-pc-windows-cygnus

This should be sufficiently flexible to allow us to target other windows
environments in the future as necessary.

Rafael Espindola 10be0837ac Create .symtab_shndxr only when needed.
We need .symtab_shndxr if and only if a symbol references a section with an
index >= 0xff00.

The old code was trying to figure out if the section was needed ahead of time,
making it a fairly dependent on the code actually writing the table. It was
also somewhat conservative and would create the section in cases where it was
not needed.

If I remember correctly, the old structure was there so that the sections were
created in the same order gas creates them. That was valuable when MC's support
for ELF was new and we tested with elf-dump.py.

This patch refactors the symbol table creation to another class and makes it
obvious that .symtab_shndxr is really only created when we are about to output
a reference to a section index >= 0xff00.

While here, also improve the tests to use macros. One file is one section
short of needing .symtab_shndxr, the second one has just the right number.

Rafael Espindola a6e3a599d1 Propagate types from symbol to aliases.
This is similar, but not identical to what gas does. The logic in MC is to just
compute the symbol table after parsing the entire file. GAS is mixed, given

.type b, @object
a = b
b:
.type b, @function

It will propagate the change and make 'a' a function. Given

.type b, @object
b:
a = b
.type b, @function

the type of 'a' is still object.

Since we do the computation in the end, we produce a function in both cases.

Saleem Abdulrasool 44419fc3cd ARM IAS: properly handle function entries in .thumb
When a label is parsed, check if there is type information available for the
label. If so, check if the symbol is a function. If the symbol is a function
and we are in thumb mode and no explicit thumb_func has been emitted, adjust the
symbol data to indicate that the function definition is a thumb function.

The application of this inferencing is improved value handling in the object
file (the required thumb bit is set on symbols which are thumb functions). It
also helps improve compatibility with binutils.

The one complication that arises from this handling is the MCAsmStreamer. The
default implementation of getOrCreateSymbolData in MCStreamer does not support
tracking the symbol data. In order to support the semantics of thumb functions,
track symbol data in assembly streamer. Although O(n) in number of labels in
the TU, this is already done in various other streamers and as such the memory
overhead is not a practical concern in this scenario.

Rafael Espindola 7fadc0ea7d Look through variables when computing relocations.
Given

bar = foo + 4
	.long bar

MC would eat the 4. GNU as includes it in the relocation. The rule seems to be
that a variable that defines a symbol is used in the relocation and one that
does not define a symbol is evaluated and the result included in the relocation.

Fixing this unfortunately required some other changes:

* Since the variable is now evaluated, it would prevent the ELF writer from
  noticing the weakref marker the elf streamer uses. This patch then replaces
  that with a VariantKind in MCSymbolRefExpr.

* Using VariantKind then requires us to look past other VariantKind to see

	.weakref	bar,foo
	call	bar@PLT

  doing this also fixes

	zed = foo +2
	call zed@PLT

  so that is a good thing.

* Looking past VariantKind means that the relocation selection has to use
  the fixup instead of the target.

This is a reboot of the previous fixes for MC. I will watch the sanitizer
buildbot and wait for a build before adding back the previous fixes.

Saleem Abdulrasool 11543a9953 ARM IAS: support .thumb_set
This performs the equivalent of a .set directive in that it creates a symbol
which is an alias for another symbol or value which may possibly be yet
undefined. This directive also has the added property in that it marks the
aliased symbol as being a thumb function entry point, in the same way that the
.thumb_func directive does.

The current implementation fails one test due to an unrelated issue. Functions
within .thumb sections are not marked as thumb_func. The result is that
the aliasee function is not valued correctly.

David Blaikie c714ef4581 DebugInfo: Improve reuse of file table entries in asm debug info
The previous deduping strategy was woefully inadequate - it only
considered the most recent file used and avoided emitting a duplicate in
that case - never considering the a/b/a scenario.

It was also lacking when it came to directory paths as the previous
filename would never match the current if the filename had been split
into file and directory components.

This change builds caching functionality into the line table at the
lowest level in an optional form (a file number of 0 indicates that one
should be chosen and returned) and will eventually be reused by the
normal source level debugging DWARF emission.

This makes the mapping consistent with other CU->X mappings in the

I haven't renamed the data structure as that would make the patch churn

structure now contains lines for multiple sections covered by a single
CU, rather than lines for a single section in multiple CUs) and further
refactorings will follow that may remove this type entirely.

For convenience, I also gave the MCLineSection value semantics so we
didn't have to do the lazy construction, manual delete, etc.

Until this point only macro definition with named parameters were parsed but the

In order to support the full semantics of the keyword arguments, the arguments
are no longer lazily initialised since the keyword arguments can be specified
out of order and partially if they are defaulted. Prepopulate the arguments
with the default value for any defaulted parameters, and then parse the
specified arguments.

This simplies some of the handling of the arguments in the inner loop since
empty arguments simply increment the parameter index and move on.

Daniel Sanders 753e17629d Re-commit: Demote EmitRawText call in AsmPrinter::EmitInlineAsm() and remove hasRawTextSupport() call
Summary:
AsmPrinter::EmitInlineAsm() will no longer use the EmitRawText() call for
targets with mature MC support. Such targets will always parse the inline
assembly (even when emitting assembly). Targets without mature MC support
continue to use EmitRawText() for assembly output.

The hasRawTextSupport() check in AsmPrinter::EmitInlineAsm() has been replaced
with MCAsmInfo::UseIntegratedAs which when true, causes the integrated assembler
to parse inline assembly (even when emitting assembly output). UseIntegratedAs
is set to true for targets that consider any failure to parse valid assembly
to be a bug. Target specific subclasses generally enable the integrated
assembler in their constructor. The default value can be overridden with
-no-integrated-as.

All tests that rely on inline assembly supporting invalid assembly (for example,
those that use mnemonics such as 'foo' or 'hello world') have been updated to
disable the integrated assembler.

Changes since review (and last commit attempt):
- Fixed test failures that were missed due to configuration of local build.
  (fixes crash.ll and a couple others).
- Fixed tests that happened to pass because the local build was on X86
  (should fix 2007-12-17-InvokeAsm.ll)
- mature-mc-support.ll's should no longer require all targets to be compiled.
  (should fix ARM and PPC buildbots)
- Object output (-filetype=obj and similar) now forces the integrated assembler
  to be enabled regardless of default setting or -no-integrated-as.
  (should fix SystemZ buildbots)

David Peixotto b9b7362cdc Fix PR18345: ldr= pseudo instruction produces incorrect code when using in inline assembly
This patch fixes the ldr-pseudo implementation to work when used in
inline assembly. The fix is to move arm assembler constant pools
from the ARMAsmParser class to the ARMTargetStreamer class.

Previously we kept the assembler generated constant pools in the
ARMAsmParser object. This does not work for inline assembly because
a new parser object is created for each blob of inline assembly.
This patch moves the constant pools to the ARMTargetStreamer class
so that the constant pool will remain alive for the entire code
generation process.

An ARMTargetStreamer class is now required for the arm backend.
There was no existing implementation for MachO, only Asm and ELF.
Instead of creating an empty MachO subclass, we decided to make the
ARMTargetStreamer a non-abstract class and provide default
(llvm_unreachable) implementations for the non constant-pool related
methods.

So let the lexer produce an AsmLexer::Integer as before for numbers which
are small enough — which appears to cover what was previously a nasty
special case handling of numbers which don't fit in int64_t but *do* fit

Where the number is too large even for that, produce an AsmLexer::BigNum

Greg Fitzgerald 1f6a6086ae Fix inline assembly that switches between ARM and Thumb modes
This patch restores the ARM mode if the user's inline assembly
does not. In the object streamer, it ensures that instructions
following the inline assembly are encoded correctly and that
correct mapping symbols are emitted. For the asm streamer, it
emits a .arm or .thumb directive.

This patch does not ensure that the inline assembly contains
the ADR instruction to switch modes at runtime.

The problem we need to solve is code like this:

  int foo(int a, int b) {
    int r = a + b;
    asm volatile(
        ".align 2     \n"
        ".arm         \n"
        "add r0,r0,r0 \n"
    : : "r"(r));
    return r+1;
  }

If we compile this function in thumb mode then the inline assembly
will switch to arm mode. We need to make sure that we switch back to
thumb mode after emitting the inline assembly or we will incorrectly
encode the instructions that follow (i.e. the assembly instructions
for return r+1).

Kevin Enderby c030848f8f Tweak the MCExternalSymbolizer to not use the SymbolLookUp() call back
to not guess at a symbol name in some cases.

The problem is that in object files assembled starting at address 0, when
trying to symbolicate something that starts like this:

% cat x.s
_t1:
	vpshufd	$0x0, %xmm1, %xmm0

the symbolic disassembly can end up like this:

% otool -tV x.o
x.o:
(__TEXT,__text) section
_t1:
0000000000000000	vpshufd	$_t1, %xmm1, %xmm0

Which is in this case produced incorrect symbolication.

But it is useful in some cases to use the SymbolLookUp() call back
to guess at some immediate values. For example one like this
that does not have an external relocation entry:

% cat y.s
_t1:
	movl	$_d1, %eax
.data
_d1:	.long	0

% clang -c -arch i386 y.s

% otool -tV y.o
y.o:
(__TEXT,__text) section
_t1:
0000000000000000	movl	$_d1, %eax

% otool -rv y.o
y.o:
Relocation information (__TEXT,__text) 1 entries
address pcrel length extern type scattered symbolnum/value
00000001 False long False VANILLA False 2 (__DATA,__data)

So the change is based on it is not likely that an immediate Value
coming from an instruction field of a width of 1 byte, other than branches
and items with relocation, are not likely symbol addresses.

With the change the first case above simply becomes:

% otool -tV x.o
x.o:
(__TEXT,__text) section
_t1:
0000000000000000	vpshufd	$0x0, %xmm1, %xmm0

and the second case continues to work as expected.

Rafael Espindola 58873566b3 Make the llvm mangler depend only on DataLayout.
Before this patch any program that wanted to know the final symbol name of a
GlobalValue had to link with Target.

This patch implements a compromise solution where the mangler uses DataLayout.
This way, any tool that already links with Target (llc, clang) gets the exact
behavior as before and new IR files can be mangled without linking with Target.

With this patch the mangler is constructed with just a DataLayout and DataLayout
is extended to include the information the Mangler needs.

Reid Kleckner 7f10a8cd45 Fix miscompile of MS inline assembly with stack realignment
For stack frames requiring realignment, three pointers may be needed:
- ebp to address incoming arguments
- esi (could be any callee-saved register) to address locals
- esp to address outgoing arguments

We would use esi unconditionally without verifying that it did not
conflict with inline assembly.

This change doesn't do the verification, it simply emits a fatal error
on functions that use stack realignment, dynamic SP adjustments, and
inline assembly.

Because stack realignment is common on Windows, we also no longer assume
that MS inline assembly clobbers esp. Instead, we analyze the inline
instructions for implicit definitions and check if esp is there. If so,
we require the use of a base pointer and consider it in the condition
above.

Mostly fixes PR16830, but we could try harder to find a non-conflicting
base pointer.

Andrew Trick 32591d3111 Fix a crash that occurs when PWD is invalid.
MCJIT needs to be able to run in hostile environments, even when PWD
is invalid. There's no need to crash MCJIT in this case.

The obvious fix is to simply leave MCContext's CompilationDir empty
when PWD can't be determined. This way, MCJIT clients,
and other clients that link with LLVM don’t need a valid working directory.

If we do want to guarantee valid CompilationDir, that should be done
only for clients of getCompilationDir(). This is as simple as checking
for an empty string.

The only current use of getCompilationDir is EmitGenDwarfInfo, which
won’t conceivably run with an invalid working dir. However, in the
purely hypothetically and untestable case that this happens, the
AT_comp_dir will be omitted from the compilation_unit DIE.

David Peixotto 2cdc56d26b Integrated assembler incorrectly lexes ARM-style comments
The integrated assembler fails to properly lex arm comments when
they are adjacent to an identifier in the input stream. The reason
is that the arm comment symbol '@' is also used as symbol variant in
other assembly languages so when lexing an identifier it allows the
'@' symbol as part of the identifier.

Example:
  $ cat comment.s
  foo:
    add r0, r0@got to parse this as a comment

  $ llvm-mc -triple armv7 comment.s
  comment.s:4:18: error: unexpected token in argument list
    add r0, r0@got to parse this as a comment
                   ^
This should be parsed as correctly as `add r0, r0`.

This commit modifes the assembly lexer to not include the '@' symbol
in identifiers when lexing for targets that use '@' for comments.

David Peixotto 8ad70b3542 Add support for parsing ARM symbol variants on ELF targets
ARM symbol variants are written with parens instead of @ like this:

  .word __GLOBAL_I_a(target1)

This commit adds support for parsing these symbol variants in
expressions. We introduce a new flag to MCAsmInfo that indicates the
parser should use parens to parse the symbol variant. The expression
parser is modified to look for symbol variants using parens instead
of @ when the corresponding MCAsmInfo flag is true.

The MCAsmInfo parens flag is enabled only for ARM on ELF.

By adding this flag to MCAsmInfo, we are able to get rid of
redundant ARM-specific symbol variants and use the generic variants
instead (e.g. VK_GOT instead of VK_ARM_GOT). We use the new
UseParensForSymbolVariant attribute in MCAsmInfo to correctly print
the symbol variants for arm.

To achive this we need to keep a handle to the MCAsmInfo in the
MCSymbolRefExpr class that we can check when printing the symbol
variant.

David Peixotto 7266731f9e ARM integrated assembler generates incorrect nop opcode
This patch fixes a bug in the assembler that was causing bad code to
be emitted. When switching modes in an assembly file (e.g. arm to
thumb mode) we would always emit the opcode from the original mode.

Consider this small example:

$ cat align.s
.code 16
foo:
  add r0, r0
.align 3
  add r0, r0

$ llvm-mc -triple armv7-none-linux align.s -filetype=obj -o t.o
$ llvm-objdump -triple thumbv7 -d t.o
Disassembly of section .text:
foo:
       0:       00 44         add     r0, r0
       2:       00 f0 20 e3   blx #4195904
       6:       00 00         movs    r0, r0
       8:       00 44         add     r0, r0

This shows that we have actually emitted an arm nop (e320f000)
instead of a thumb nop. Unfortunately, this encodes to a thumb
branch which causes bad things to happen when compiling assembly
code with align directives.

The fix is to notify the ARMAsmBackend when we switch mode. The
MCMachOStreamer was already doing this correctly. This patch makes
the same change for the MCElfStreamer.

There is still a bug in the way nops are emitted for alignment
because the MCAlignment fragment does not store the correct mode.
The ARMAsmBackend will emit nops for the last mode it knew about. In
the example above, we still generate an arm nop if we add a `.code
32` to the end of the file.

Hans Wennborg ce69d77cec MC asm parser: allow ?'s in symbol names, and handle @'s in names in MS asm
This is another (final?) stab at making us able to parse our own asm output
on Windows.

Symbols on Windows often contain @'s and ?'s in their names. Our asm parser
didn't like this. ?'s were not allowed, and @'s were intepreted as trying to
reference PLT/GOT/etc.

We can't just add quotes around the bad names, since e.g. for MinGW, we use gas
to assemble, and it doesn't like quotes in some places (notably in .def
directives).

This commit makes us allow ?'s in symbol names, and @'s in symbol names for MS
assembly.

Hans Wennborg 7ddcdc82a5 Revert "Re-commit r192758 - MC: quote tricky symbol names in asm output"
This caused the clang-native-mingw32-win7 buildbot to break.

The assembler was complaining about the following lines that were showing up
in the asm for CrashRecoveryContext.cpp:

  movl  $"__ZL16ExceptionHandlerP19_EXCEPTION_POINTERS@4", 4(%eax)
  calll "_AddVectoredExceptionHandler@8"
  .def   "__ZL16ExceptionHandlerP19_EXCEPTION_POINTERS@4";
  "__ZL16ExceptionHandlerP19_EXCEPTION_POINTERS@4":
  calll "_RemoveVectoredExceptionHandler@4"

Reverting for now.

Hans Wennborg 69918bccab Re-commit r192758 - MC: quote tricky symbol names in asm output
The reason this got reverted was that the @feat.00 symbol which was emitted
for every TU became quoted, and on cygwin/mingw we use the gas assembler which
couldn't handle the quotes.

This commit fixes the problem by only emitting @feat.00 for win32, where we use
clang -cc1as to assemble. gas would just drop this symbol anyway, so there is no
loss there.

With @feat.00 gone, there shouldn't be quoted symbols showing up on cygwin since
it uses the Itanium ABI, which doesn't put these funny characters in symbols.

This patch fixes a small mistake in MCDataAtom::addData() where it doesn't ever
call remap():

     remap(Begin, End + 1);

the patch includes a unit test.

Hans Wennborg d34cf14339 MC: Better handling of tricky symbol and section names
Because of win32 mangling, we produce symbol and section names with
funny characters in them, most notably @ characters.

MC would choke on trying to parse its own assembly output. This patch addresses
that by:

- Making @ trigger quoting of symbol names
- Also quote section names in the same way
- Just parse section names like other identifiers (to allow for quotes)
- Don't assume @ signifies a symbol variant if it is in a string.

Rafael Espindola a17151ad5a Add a MCTargetStreamer interface.
This patch fixes an old FIXME by creating a MCTargetStreamer interface
and moving the target specific functions for ARM, Mips and PPC to it.

The ARM streamer is still declared in a common place because it is
used from lib/CodeGen/ARMException.cpp, but the Mips and PPC are
completely hidden in the corresponding Target directories.

I will send an email to llvmdev with instructions on how to use this.

Rafael Espindola ac4ad25a00 Remove some really nasty uses of hasRawTextSupport.
When MC was first added, targets could use hasRawTextSupport to keep features
working before they were added to the MC interface.

The design goal of MC is to provide an uniform api for printing assembly and
object files. Short of relaxations and other corner cases, a object file is
just another representation of the assembly.

It was never the intention that targets would keep doing things like

if (hasRawTextSupport())
  Set flags in one way.
else
  Set flags in another way.

When they do that they create two code paths and the object file is no longer
just another representation of the assembly. This also then requires testing
with llc -filetype=obj, which is extremelly brittle.

This patch removes some of these hacks by replacing them with smaller ones.
The ARM flag setting is trivial, so I just moved it to the constructor. For
Mips, the patch adds two temporary hack directives that allow the assembly
to represent the same things as the object file was already able to.

The hope is that the mips developers will replace the hack directives with
the same ones that gas uses and drop the -print-hack-directives flag.

I will also try to implement a target streamer interface, so that we can
move this out of the common code.

In summary, for any new work, two rules of the thumb are
  * Don't use "llc -filetype=obj" in tests.
  * Don't add calls to hasRawTextSupport.

Jack Carter 721726adfc [MC][AsmParser] Hook for post assembly file processing
This patch handles LLVM standalone assembler (llvm-mc) ELF flag setting based on input file
directive processing.

Mips assembly requires processing inline directives that directly and
indirectly affect the output ELF header flags. This patch handles one
".abicalls".

To process these directives we are following the model the code generator
uses by storing state in a container as we go through processing and when
we detect the end of input file processing, AsmParser is notified and we
update the ELF header flags through a MipsELFStreamer method with a call from
MCTargetAsmParser::emitEndOfAsmFile(MCStreamer &OutStreamer).

This patch will allow other targets the same functionality.
