Benjamin Kramer 8817cca5ce Provide basic type safety for array_pod_sort comparators.
This makes using array_pod_sort significantly safer. The implementation relies
on function pointer casting but that should be safe as we're dealing with void*
here.

David Blaikie 8dec407649 Unshift the GDB index/GNU pubnames constants modified in r191025
Based on code review feedback from Eric Christopher, unshifting these
constants as they can appear in the gdb_index itself, shifted a further
24 bits. This means that keeping them preshifted is a bit inflexible, so
let's not do that.

Given the motivation, wrap up some nicer enums, more type safety, and
some utility functions.

Filip Pizlo 67d9709341 Make PrettyStackTraceEntry use ManagedStatic for its ThreadLocal.
This was somewhat tricky because ~PrettyStackTraceEntry() may run after
llvm_shutdown() has been called. This is rare and only happens for a common idiom
used in the main() functions of command-line tools. This works around the idiom by
skipping the stack clean-up if the PrettyStackTraceHead ManagedStatic is not
constructed (i.e. llvm_shutdown() has been called).

Rui Ueyama 471d0c57e7 Add getenv() wrapper that works on multibyte environment variable.
On Windows, character encoding of multibyte environment variable varies
depending on settings. The only reliable way to handle it I think is to use
GetEnvironmentVariableW().

GetEnvironmentVariableW() works on wchar_t string, which is on Windows UTF16
string. That's not ideal because we use UTF-8 as the internal encoding in LLVM.
This patch defines a wrapper function which takes and returns UTF-8 string for
GetEnvironmentVariableW().

The wrapper function does not do any conversion and just forwards the argument
to getenv() on Unix.

than cleanup. It did help me find PR17055 in clang-format though.

Daniel Dunbar eb6c708d92 [conf] Add config variable to disable crash related overrides.
- We do some nasty things w.r.t. installing or overriding signal handlers in
order to improve our crash recovery support or interaction with crash
reporting software, and those things are not necessarily appropriate when
LLVM is being linked into a client application that has its own ideas about
how to do things. This gives those clients a way to disable that handling at
   build time.

 - Currently, the code this guards is all Apple specific, but other platforms
might have the same concerns so I went for a more generic configure
name. Someone who is more familiar with library embedding on Windows can
handle choosing which of the Windows/Signals.inc behaviors might make sense
   to go under this flag.

 - This also fixes the proper autoconf'ing of ENABLE_BACKTRACES. The code
expects it to be undefined when disabled, but the autoconf check was just
   defining it to 0.

Eli Friedman e72f132097 Change default # of digits for APFloat::toString
This is a re-commit of r189442; I'll follow up with clang changes.

The previous default was almost, but not quite enough digits to
represent a floating-point value in a manner which preserves the
representation when it's read back in. The larger default is much
less confusing.

I spent some time looking into printing exactly the right number of
digits if a precision isn't specified, but it's kind of complicated,
and I'm not really sure I understand what APFloat::toString is supposed
to output for FormatPrecision != 0 (or maybe the current API specification
is just silly, not sure which). I have a WIP patch if anyone is interested.

Chandler Carruth 912198585d Remove all checking for the various terminfo headers (term.h and
curses.h). Finding these headers is next to impossible. For example, on
Debian systems libtinfo-dev provides the terminfo reading library we
want, but *not* term.h. For the header, you have to use libncurses-dev.
And libncursesw-dev provides a *different* term.h in a different
location!

These headers aren't worth it. We want two functions the signatures of
which are clearly spec'ed in sys-v and other documentation. Just declare
them ourselves and call them. This should fix some debian builders and
provide better support for "minimal" debian systems that do want color
autodetection.

llvm-svn: 188165
2013-08-12 10:40:11 +00:00
Chandler Carruth f11f1e43de Target a minimal terminfo library rather than necessarily a full curses
library for color support detection. This still will use a curses
library if that is all we have available on the system. This change
tries to use a smaller subset of the curses library, specifically the
subset that is on some systems split off into a separate library. For
example, if you install ncurses configured --with-tinfo, a 'libtinfo' is
install that provides just the terminfo querying functionality. That
library is now used instead of curses when it is available.

This happens to fix a build error on systems with that library because
when we tried to link ncurses into the binary, we didn't pull tinfo in
as well. =]

It should also provide an easy path for supporting the NetBSD
libterminfo library, but as I don't have access to a NetBSD system I'm
leaving adding that support to those folks.

Chandler Carruth cad7e5e0b4 Add support for linking against a curses library when available and
using it to detect whether or not a terminal supports colors. This
replaces a particularly egregious hack that merely compared the TERM
environment variable to "dumb". That doesn't really translate to
a reasonable experience for users that have actually ensured their
terminal's capabilities are accurately reflected.

This makes testing a terminal for color support somewhat more expensive,
but it is called very rarely anyways. The important fast path when the
output is being piped somewhere is already in place.

The global lock may seem excessive, but the spec for calling into curses
is *terrible*. The whole library is terrible, and I spent quite a bit of
time looking for a better way of doing this before convincing myself
that this was the fundamentally correct way to behave. The damage of the
curses library is very narrowly confined, and we continue to use raw
escape codes for actually manipulating the colors which is a much sane
system than directly using curses here (IMO).

If this causes trouble for folks, please let me know. I've tested it on
Linux and will watch the bots carefully. I've also worked to account for
the variances of curses interfaces that I could finde documentation for,
but that may not have been sufficient.

Michael Gottesman b0e688e87c [APFloat] Make all arithmetic operations with NaN produce positive NaNs.
IEEE-754R 1.4 Exclusions states that IEEE-754R does not specify the
interpretation of the sign of NaNs. In order to remove an irrelevant
variable that most floating point implementations do not use,
standardize add, sub, mul, div, mod so that operating anything with
NaN always yields a positive NaN.

In a later commit I am going to update the APIs for creating NaNs so
that one can not even create a negative NaN.

Bill Schmidt 419f7c2345 [PowerPC] Improve consistency in use of __ppc__, __powerpc__, etc.
Both GCC and LLVM will implicitly define __ppc__ and __powerpc__ for
all PowerPC targets, whether 32- or 64-bit. They will both implicitly
define __ppc64__ and __powerpc64__ for 64-bit PowerPC targets, and not
for 32-bit targets. We cannot be sure that all other possible
compilers used to compile Clang/LLVM define both __ppc__ and
__powerpc__, for example, so it is best to check for both when relying
on either inside the Clang/LLVM code base.

This patch makes sure we always check for both variants. In addition,
it fixes one unnecessary check in lib/Target/PowerPC/PPCJITInfo.cpp.
(At least one of __ppc__ and __powerpc__ should always be defined when
compiling for a PowerPC target, no matter which compiler is used, so
testing for them is unnecessary.)

There are some places in the compiler that check for other variants,
like __POWERPC__ and _POWER, and I have left those in place. There is
no need to add them elsewhere. This seems to be in Apple-specific
code, and I won't take a chance on breaking it.

There is no intended change in behavior; thus, no test cases are
added.

Bill Schmidt 0a9170d931 [PowerPC] Support powerpc64le as a syntax-checking target.
This patch provides basic support for powerpc64le as an LLVM target.
However, use of this target will not actually generate little-endian
code. Instead, use of the target will cause the correct little-endian
built-in defines to be generated, so that code that tests for
__LITTLE_ENDIAN__, for example, will be correctly parsed for
syntax-only testing. Code generation will otherwise be the same as
powerpc64 (big-endian), for now.

The patch leaves open the possibility of creating a little-endian
PowerPC64 back end, but there is no immediate intent to create such a
thing.

The LLVM portions of this patch simply add ppc64le coverage everywhere
that ppc64 coverage currently exists. There is nothing of any import
worth testing until such time as little-endian code generation is
implemented. In the corresponding Clang patch, there is a new test
case variant to ensure that correct built-in defines for little-endian
code are generated.

The main observation is that we never need both the filesize and the map size.
When mapping a slice of a file, it doesn't make sense to request a null
terminator and that would be the only case where the filesize would be used.

There are other cleanups that should be done in this area:

* A client should not have to pass the size (even an explicit -1) to say if
it wants a null terminator or not, so we should probably swap the argument
  order.
* The default should be to not require a null terminator. Very few clients
require this, but many end up asking for it just because it is the default.

Ulrich Weigand 1d4dbda5b9 [APFloat] PR16573: Avoid losing mantissa bits in ppc_fp128 to double truncation
When truncating to a format with fewer mantissa bits, APFloat::convert
will perform a right shift of the mantissa by the difference of the
precision of the two formats. Usually, this will result in just the
mantissa bits needed for the target format.

One special situation is if the input number is denormal. In this case,
the right shift may discard significant bits. This is usually not a
problem, since truncating a denormal usually results in zero (underflow)
after normalization anyway, since the result format's exponent range is
usually smaller than the target format's.

However, there is one case where the latter property does not hold:
when truncating from ppc_fp128 to double. In particular, truncating
a ppc_fp128 whose first double of the pair is denormal should result
in just that first double, not zero. The current code however
performs an excessive right shift, resulting in lost result bits.
This is then caught in the APFloat::normalize call performed by
APFloat::convert and causes an assertion failure.

This patch checks for the scenario of truncating a denormal, and
attempts to (possibly partially) replace the initial mantissa
right shift by decrementing the exponent, if doing so will still
result in a valid *target format* exponent.

This function is complementary to createTemporaryFile. It handles the case were
the unique file is *not* temporary: we will rename it in the end. Since we
will rename it, the file has to be in the same filesystem as the final
destination and we don't prepend the system temporary directory.

This has a small semantic difference from unique_file: the default mode is 0666.
This matches the behavior of most unix tools. For example, with this change

of a loop header given the probability of leaving the loop.

Our long division algorithm already saturates on overflow, so that was a
freebie.

Rafael Espindola e79a87226a Improvements to unique_file and createUniqueDirectory.
* Don't try to create parent directories in unique_file. It had two problem:
   * It violates the contract that it is atomic. If the directory creation
success and the file creation fails, we would return an error but the
     file system was modified.
   * When creating a temporary file clang would have to first check if the
parent directory existed or not to avoid creating one when it was not
     supposed to.

* More efficient implementations of createUniqueDirectory and the unique_file
that produces only the file name. Now all 3 just call into a static
function passing what they want (name, file or directory).

Clang also has to be updated, so tests might fail if a bot picks up this commit
and not the corresponding clang one.

Michael Gottesman 79b0967548 Revert "Revert "[APFloat] Removed APFloat constructor which initialized to either zero/NaN but allowed you to arbitrarily set the category of the float.""
This reverts commit r185099.

Looks like both the ppc-64 and mips bots are still failing after I reverted this
change.

Since:

1. The mips bot always performs a clean build,
2. The ppc64-bot failed again after a clean build (I asked the ppc-64
maintainers to clean the bot which they did... Thanks Will!),

I think it is safe to assume that this change was not the cause of the failures
that said builders were seeing. Thus I am recomitting.

Michael Gottesman 03255a1675 [APFloat] Removed APFloat constructor which initialized to either zero/NaN but allowed you to arbitrarily set the category of the float.
The category which an APFloat belongs to should be dependent on the
actual value that the APFloat has, not be arbitrarily passed in by the
user. This will prevent inconsistency bugs where the category and the
actual value in APFloat differ.

I also fixed up all of the references to this constructor (which were
only in LLVM).

Michael Gottesman 8136c384c5 [APFloat] Convert all references to fcNormal to references to isFiniteNonZero().
Currently inside APFloat fcNormal still implies the old definition of Normal

This patch prepares for the internal switch inside APFloat by converting all
references that check if a category is fcNormal directly with an indirect call
via isFiniteNonZero().

The method significandParts() is a helper method meant to ease access to
APFloat's significand by allowing the user to not need to be aware of whether or
not the APFloat is using memory allocated in the instance itself or in an
external array.

This assert says that one can only access the significand of FiniteNonZero/NaN
floats. This makes it cumbersome and more importantly dangerous when one wishes
to zero out the significand of a zero/infinity value since one will have to deal
with the aforementioned quandary related to how the memory in APFloat is
allocated.

Zero is used by BlockFrequencyInfo as a special "don't know" value. It also
causes a sink for frequencies as you can't ever get off a zero frequency with
more multiplies.

This recovers a 10% regression on MultiSource/Benchmarks/7zip. A zero frequency
was propagated into an inner loop causing excessive spilling.

Tobias Grosser bd9e549e21 Make host ARM CPU feature detection independent of the vendor
For ARM on linux we use /proc/cpuinfo to detect the host CPU's features.
Linux derives these values without ever looking at the vendor of the

Ahmed Bougacha aa79068157 MC: Disassembled CFG reconstruction.
This patch builds on some existing code to do CFG reconstruction from
a disassembled binary:
- MCModule represents the binary, and has a list of MCAtoms.
- MCAtom represents either disassembled instructions (MCTextAtom), or
contiguous data (MCDataAtom), and covers a specific range of addresses.
- MCBasicBlock and MCFunction form the reconstructed CFG. An MCBB is
backed by an MCTextAtom, and has the usual successors/predecessors.
- MCObjectDisassembler creates a module from an ObjectFile using a
disassembler. It first builds an atom for each section. It can also
construct the CFG, and this splits the text atoms into basic blocks.

MCModule and MCAtom were only sketched out; MCFunction and MCBB were
implemented under the experimental "-cfg" llvm-objdump -macho option.
This cleans them up for further use; llvm-objdump -d -cfg now generates
graphviz files for each function found in the binary.

In the future, MCObjectDisassembler may be the right place to do
"intelligent" disassembly: for example, handling constant islands is just
a matter of splitting the atom, using information that may be available
in the ObjectFile. Also, better initial atom formation than just using
sections is possible using symbols (and things like Mach-O's
function_starts load command).

This brings two minor regressions in llvm-objdump -macho -cfg:
- The printing of a relocation's referenced symbol.
- An annotation on loop BBs, i.e., which are their own successor.

Relocation printing is replaced by the MCSymbolizer; the basic CFG
annotation will be superseded by more related functionality.

Bob Wilson 111b0b6da4 Remove declaration of __clear_cache for __APPLE__. <rdar://problem/13924072>
This fixes a bootstrapping problem with builds for Apple ARM targets.
Clang had the wrong prototype for __clear_cache with ARM targets. Rafael
fixed that in clang svn r181784 and r181810, but without those changes,
we can't build this code for ARM because clang reports an error about the
declaration in Memory.inc not matching the builtin declaration. Some of our
buildbots need to use an older compiler that doesn't have the clang fix.
Since __clear_cache is never used here when __APPLE__ is defined, I'm just
conditionalizing the declaration to match that. I also moved the declaration
of sys_icache_invalidate inside the conditional for __APPLE__ while I was at
it.

David Blaikie 041f1aa3e2 Use only explicit bool conversion operators
BitVector/SmallBitVector::reference::operator bool remain implicit since
they model more exactly a bool, rather than something else that can be
boolean tested.

The most common (non-buggy) case are where such objects are used as
return expressions in bool-returning functions or as boolean function
arguments. In those cases I've used (& added if necessary) a named
function to provide the equivalent (or sometimes negative, depending on
convenient wording) test.

One behavior change (YAMLParser) was made, though no test case is
included as I'm not sure how to reach that code path. Essentially any
comparison of llvm::yaml::document_iterators would be invalid if neither
iterator was at the end.

This helped uncover a couple of bugs in Clang - test cases provided for
those in a separate commit along with similar changes to `operator bool`
instances in Clang.

Summary:
This patch allows using \n inside long help strings for command-line
options, so that all lines are equally indented. This is not a perfect solution,
as we don't (and probably don't want to) know about terminal width, but it
allows to format long help strings somehow readable without manually padding
them with spaces. A motivating example is -help output from clang-format (source
code in tools/clang-format/ClangFormat.cpp, see cl options offset, length,
style, and dump-config).

Ulrich Weigand 90c9abdd27 [SystemZ] Support System Z as host architecture
The llvm::sys::AddSignalHandler function (as well as related routines) in
lib/Support/Unix/Signals.inc currently registers a signal handler routine
via "sigaction". When this handler is called due to a SIGSEGV, SIGILL or
similar signal, it will show a stack backtrace, deactivate the handler,
and then simply return to the operating system. The intent is that the
OS will now retry execution at the same location as before, which ought
to again trigger the same error condition and cause the same signal to be
delivered again. Since the hander is now deactivated, the OS will take
its default action (usually, terminate the program and possibly create
a core dump).

However, this method doesn't work reliably on System Z: With certain
signals (namely SIGILL, SIGFPE, and SIGTRAP), the program counter stored
by the kernel on the signal stack frame (which is the location where
execution will resume) is not the instruction that triggered the fault,
but then instruction *after it*. When the LLVM signal handler simply
returns to the kernel, execution will then resume at *that* address,
which will not trigger the problem again, but simply go on and execute
potentially unrelated code leading to random errors afterwards.

To fix this, the patch simply goes and re-raises the signal in question
directly from the handler instead of returning from it. This is done
only on System Z and only for those signals that have this particular
problem.

Chandler Carruth 0a9875abfe Revert r177543: Add timing of the IR parsing code with a new
-time-ir-parsing flag

This breaks the layering of the Support library. We can't add an
implementation side to IRReader because it refers directly to entities
only accessible as part of the IR, AsmParser, and BitcodeReader
libraries. It can only be used in a context where all of those libraries
will be available.

We'll need to find some other way to get this functionality, and
hopefully solve the long-standing layering problem of IRReader.h...

Tim Northover e0e3aefdd3 Add AArch64 as an experimental target.
This patch adds support for AArch64 (ARM's 64-bit architecture) to
LLVM in the "experimental" category. Currently, it won't be built
unless requested explicitly.

This initial commit should have support for:
    + Assembly of all scalar (i.e. non-NEON, non-Crypto) instructions
(except the late addition CRC instructions).
+ CodeGen features required for C++03 and C99.
+ Compilation for the "small" memory model: code+static data <
      4GB.
    + Absolute and position-independent code.
    + GNU-style (i.e. "__thread") TLS.
    + Debugging information.

The principal omission, currently, is performance tuning.

This patch excludes the NEON support also reviewed due to an outbreak of
batshit insanity in our legal department. That will be committed soon bringing
the changes to precisely what has been approved.

Peter Collingbourne a51c6ed608 Introduce llvm::sys::getProcessTriple() function.
In r143502, we renamed getHostTriple() to getDefaultTargetTriple()
as part of work to allow the user to supply a different default
target triple at configure time. This change also affected the JIT.
However, it is inappropriate to use the default target triple in the
JIT in most circumstances because this will not necessarily match
the current architecture used by the process, leading to illegal
instruction and other such errors at run time.

Introduce the getProcessTriple() function for use in the JIT and
its clients, and cause the JIT to use it. On architectures with a
single bitness, the host and process triples are identical. On other
architectures, the host triple represents the architecture of the
host CPU, while the process triple represents the architecture used
by the host CPU to interpret machine code within the current process.
For example, when executing 32-bit code on a 64-bit Linux machine,
the host triple may be 'x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu', while the process
triple may be 'i386-unknown-linux-gnu'.

This fixes JIT for the 32-on-64-bit (and vice versa) build on non-Apple
platforms.

I don't test the value of _POSIX_CPUTIME because the spec merely says
that if it is defined, the CPU-specific timers are available, whereas it
says that _POSIX_TIMERS must be defined and defined to a value greater

"If the symbolic constant _POSIX_CPUTIME is defined, then the symbolic

Chandler Carruth ef7f968e09 Add time getters to the process interface for requesting the elapsed
wall time, user time, and system time since a process started.

For walltime, we currently use TimeValue's interface and a global
initializer to compute a close approximation of total process runtime.

For user time, this adds support for an somewhat more precise timing
mechanism -- clock_gettime with the CLOCK_PROCESS_CPUTIME_ID clock
selected.

For system time, we have to do a full getrusage call to extract the
system time from the OS. This is expensive but unavoidable.

In passing, clean up the implementation of the old APIs and fix some
latent bugs in the Windows code. This might have manifested on Windows
ARM systems or other systems with strange 64-bit integer behavior.

The old API for this both user time and system time simultaneously from
a single getrusage call. While this results in fewer system calls, it
also results in a lower precision user time and if only user time is
desired, it introduces a higher overhead. It may be worthwhile to switch
some of the pass timers to not track system time and directly track user
and wall time. The old API also tracked walltime in a confusing way --
it just set it to the current walltime rather than providing any measure
of wall time since the process started the way buth user and system time
are tracked. The new API is more consistent here.

The plan is to eventually implement these methods for a *child* process
by using the wait3(2) system call to populate an rusage struct
representing the whole subprocess execution. That way, after waiting on
a child process its stats will become accurate and cheap to query.

Chandler Carruth 9fb823bbd4 Move all of the header files which are involved in modelling the LLVM IR
into their new header subdirectory: include/llvm/IR. This matches the
directory structure of lib, and begins to correct a long standing point
of file layout clutter in LLVM.

There are still more header files to move here, but I wanted to handle
them in separate commits to make tracking what files make sense at each
layer easier.

The only really questionable files here are the target intrinsic
tablegen files. But that's a battle I'd rather not fight today.

I've updated both CMake and Makefile build systems (I think, and my
tests think, but I may have missed something).

I've also re-sorted the includes throughout the project. I'll be
committing updates to Clang, DragonEgg, and Polly momentarily.

Chandler Carruth 97683aa2fa Begin sketching out the process interface.
The coding style used here is not LLVM's style because this is modeled
after a Boost interface and thus done in the style of a candidate C++
standard library interface. I'll probably end up proposing it as
a standard C++ library if it proves to be reasonably portable and
useful.

This is just the most basic parts of the interface -- getting the
process ID out of it. However, it helps sketch out some of the boiler
plate such as the base class, derived class, shared code, and static
factory function. It also introduces a unittest so that I can
incrementally ensure this stuff works.

However, I've not even compiled this code for Windows yet. I'll try to
fix any Windows fallout from the bots, and if I can't fix it I'll revert
and get someone on Windows to help out. There isn't a lot more that is
mandatory, so soon I'll switch to just stubbing out the Windows side and
get Michael Spencer to help with implementation as he can test it
directly.
