Reid Kleckner af450eabb9 Avoid including FileSystem.h from MemoryBuffer.h
Lots of headers pass around MemoryBuffer objects, but very few open
them. Let those that do include FileSystem.h.

Saves ~250 includes of Chrono.h & FileSystem.h:

$ diff -u thedeps-before.txt thedeps-after.txt | grep '^[-+] ' | sort | uniq -c | sort -nr
    254 - ../llvm/include/llvm/Support/FileSystem.h
    253 - ../llvm/include/llvm/Support/Chrono.h
    237 - ../llvm/include/llvm/Support/NativeFormatting.h
    237 - ../llvm/include/llvm/Support/FormatProviders.h
    192 - ../llvm/include/llvm/ADT/StringSwitch.h
    190 - ../llvm/include/llvm/Support/FormatVariadicDetails.h
...

This requires duplicating the file_t typedef, which is unfortunate. I
sunk the choice of mapping mode down into the cpp file using variable
template specializations instead of class members in headers.

Bevin Hansson c3f36acc92 [MC] Widen the functional unit type from 32 to 64 bits.
Summary:
The type used to represent functional units in MC is
'unsigned', which is 32 bits wide. This is currently
not a problem in any upstream target as no one seems
to have hit the limit on this yet, but in our
downstream one, we need to define more than 32
functional units.

Increasing the size does not seem to cause a huge
size increase in the binary (an llc debug build went
from 1366497672 to 1366523984, a difference of 26k),
so perhaps it would be acceptable to have this patch
applied upstream as well.

Sanjay Patel 15e20dcb8f [Utils][x86] add an option to reduce scrubbing of shuffles with memops
I was drafting a patch that would increase broadcast load usage,
but our shuffle scrubbing makes it impossible to see if the memory
operand offset was getting created correctly. I'm proposing to make
that an option (defaulted to 'off' for now to reduce regression
test churn).

The updated files provide examples of tests where we can now verify
that the pointer offset for a loaded memory operand is correct. We
still have stack and constant scrubbing that can obscure the operand
even if we don't scrub the entire instruction.

Reid Kleckner 0c2b09a9b6 [IR] Lazily number instructions for local dominance queries
Essentially, fold OrderedBasicBlock into BasicBlock, and make it
auto-invalidate the instruction ordering when new instructions are
added. Notably, we don't need to invalidate it when removing
instructions, which is helpful when a pass mostly delete dead
instructions rather than transforming them.

The downside is that Instruction grows from 56 bytes to 64 bytes. The
resulting LLVM code is substantially simpler and automatically handles
invalidation, which makes me think that this is the right speed and size
tradeoff.

The important change is in SymbolTableTraitsImpl.h, where the numbering
is invalidated. Everything else should be straightforward.

We probably want to implement a fancier re-numbering scheme so that
local updates don't invalidate the ordering, but I plan for that to be
future work, maybe for someone else.

Simon Tatham 377b0e2b06 [TableGen] Don't elide bitconverts in PatFrag fragments.
Summary:
In the DAG pattern backend, `SimplifyTree` simplifies a pattern by
removing bitconverts between two identical types. But that function is
also run on the fragments list in instances of `PatFrags`, in which
the types haven't been specified yet. So the input and output of the
bitconvert always evaluate to the empty set of types, which makes them
compare equal. So the test always passes, and bitconverts are
unconditionally removed from the PatFrag RHS.

Fixed by spotting the empty type set and using it to inhibit the
optimization.

Eric Astor ee2c0f76d7 [ms] [llvm-ml] Add a draft MASM parser
Summary:
Many directives are unavailable, and support for others may be limited.

This first draft has preliminary support for:
    - conditional directives (including errors),
    - data allocation (unsigned types up to 8 bytes, and ALIGN),
    - equates/variables (numeric and text),
    - and procedure directives (without parameters),
as well as COMMENT, ECHO, INCLUDE, INCLUDELIB, PUBLIC, and EXTERN. Text variables (aka text macros) are expanded in-place wherever the identifier occurs.

We deliberately ignore all ml.exe processor directives.

Prominent features not yet supported:
    - structs
    - macros (both procedures and functions)
    - procedures (with specified parameters)
    - substitution & expansion operators

Conditional directives are complicated by the fact that "ifdef rax" is a valid way to check if a file is being assembled for a 64-bit x86 processor; we add support for "ifdef <register>" in general, which requires adding a tryParseRegister method to all MCTargetAsmParsers. (Some targets require backtracking in the non-register case.)

Stanislav Mekhanoshin f8d044bbcf [TBLGEN] Fix subreg value overflow in DAGISelMatcher
Tablegen's DAGISelMatcher emits integers in a VBR format,
so if an integer is below 128 it can fit into a single
byte, otherwise high bit is set, next byte is used etc.
MatcherTable is essentially an unsigned char table. When
SelectionDAGISel parses the table it does a reverse translation.

In a situation when numeric value of an integer to emit is
unknown it can be emitted not as OPC_EmitInteger but as
OPC_EmitStringInteger using a symbolic name of the value.
In this situation the value should not exceed 127.

One of the situations when OPC_EmitStringInteger is used is
if we need to emit a subreg into a matcher table. However,
number of subregs can exceed 127. Currently last defined subreg
for AMDGPU is 192. That results in a silent bug in the ISel
with matcher reading from an invalid offset.

Fixed this bug to emit actual VBR encoded value for a subregs
which value exceeds 127.

Update test scripts were limited because they performed a single action
on the entire file and if that action was controlled by arguments, like
the one introduced in D68819, there was no record of it.

This patch introduces the capability of changing the arguments passed to
the script "on-the-fly" while processing a test file. In addition, an
"on/off" switch was added so that processing can be disabled for parts
of the file where the content is simply copied. The last extension is a
record of the invocation arguments in the auto generated NOTE. These
arguments are also picked up in a subsequent invocation, allowing
updates with special options enabled without user interaction.

To change the arguments the string `UTC_ARGS:` has to be present in a
line, followed by "additional command line arguments". That is
everything that follows `UTC_ARGS:` will be added to a growing list
of "command line arguments" which is reparsed after every update.

Simplifies the C++11-style "-> decltype(...)" return-type deduction.

Note that you have to be careful about whether the function return type
is `auto` or `decltype(auto)`. The difference is that bare `auto`
strips const and reference, just like lambda return type deduction. In
some cases that's what we want (or more likely, we know that the return
type is a value type), but whenever we're wrapping a templated function
which might return a reference, we need to be sure that the return type
is decltype(auto).

No functional change.

Nico Weber 3dc47979bb [gn build] make 'clang' target depend on libcxx/include on mac
On macOS, libc++ headers are distributed with the compiler, not
the sysroot. Without this, compiling a file that includes something
like <string> won't compile with gn-built clang without manual tweaks.

I used to do the manual tweaks, but now that other people are starting
to use this on mac, let's make it Just Work.

(This is marginally nicer than the cmake build now in that you can
just build 'clang' and it'll do the right thing.)

This would hit the "Biggest class wasn't first" assert in
getMatchingSubClassWithSubRegs in a future patch for EXTRACT_SUBREG

Mips defines 4 identical register classes (MSA128B, MSA128H, MSA128BW,
MSA128D). These have the same set of registers, and only differ by the
isel type. I believe this is an ill formed way of defining registers,
that probably is just to work around the inconvenience of mixing
different types in a single register class in DAG patterns.

Since these all have the same size, they would all sort to the
beginning, but you would not necessarily get the same super register
at the front as the assert enforces. Breaking the ambiguity by also
sorting by name doesn't work, since each of these register classes all
want to be first. Force sorting of the original register class if the
size is the same.

Marcello Maggioni 051d330314 Avoid creating an immutable map in the Automaton class.
Summary:
In the DFAPacketizer we copy the Transitions array
into a map in order to later access the transitions
based on a "Current State/Action" pair as a key.
This map lives in the Automaton object used by the DFAPacketizer.
It is never changed during the life of the object after
having been created during the creation of the Automaton
itself.

This map creation can make the creation of a DFAPacketizer
quite expensive if the target contains a considerable
amount of transition states.

Considering that TableGen already generates a
sorted list of transitions by State/Action pairs
we could just use that directly in our Automaton
and search entries with std::lower_bound instead of copying
it in a map and paying the execution time and memory cost.

Nico Weber 1645f5e496 [gn build] replace llvm_allow_tardy_revision with llvm_append_vc_rev
Previously, the gn build would create VCSRevision.h / VCSVersion.h
files with some LLD_REVISION / LLVM_REVISION / CLANG_REVISION but
by default wouldn't add a dependency on .git/logs/HEAD so that
the step doesn't rerun after every branch switch or every pull.

That's bad for deterministic builds, and having --version print
some arbitrarily old revision isn't great either.

Instead, move to the model that the cmake build (now) uses fairly
consistently: If llvm_append_vc_rev is set, include the revision,
else don't.

Since the GN build is focused on developers, set llvm_append_vc_rev
to false instead of true by default (different from the cmake build),
so that things don't rebuild after every branch switch and every
pull.

While here, also remove some pre-monorepo code.

After this change, we no longer compute the (now-unused) values

remove that too (it's redundant with the system added in r354605).

While here, also remove LLD_VERSION_MAJOR and LLD_VERSION_MINOR.

Tom Stellard 0dbcb36394 CMake: Make most target symbols hidden by default
Summary:
For builds with LLVM_BUILD_LLVM_DYLIB=ON and BUILD_SHARED_LIBS=OFF
this change makes all symbols in the target specific libraries hidden
by default.

A new macro called LLVM_EXTERNAL_VISIBILITY has been added to mark symbols in these
libraries public, which is mainly needed for the definitions of the
LLVMInitialize* functions.

This patch reduces the number of public symbols in libLLVM.so by about
25%. This should improve load times for the dynamic library and also
make abi checker tools, like abidiff require less memory when analyzing
libLLVM.so

One side-effect of this change is that for builds with
LLVM_BUILD_LLVM_DYLIB=ON and LLVM_LINK_LLVM_DYLIB=ON some unittests that
access symbols that are no longer public will need to be statically linked.

Before and after public symbol counts (using gcc 8.2.1, ld.bfd 2.31.1):
nm before/libLLVM-9svn.so | grep ' [A-Zuvw] ' | wc -l
36221
nm after/libLLVM-9svn.so | grep ' [A-Zuvw] ' | wc -l

Matt Arsenault 10edb1d0d4 TableGen/GlobalISel: Fix pattern matching of immarg literals
For arguments that are not expected to be materialized with
G_CONSTANT, this was emitting predicates which could never match. It
was first adding a meaningless LLT check, which would always fail due
to the operand not being a register.

Infer the cases where a literal should check for an immediate operand,
instead of a register This avoids needing to invent a special way of
representing timm literal values.

Also handle immediate arguments in GIM_CheckLiteralInt. The comments
stated it handled isImm() and isCImm(), but that wasn't really true.

This unblocks work on the selection of all of the complicated AMDGPU
intrinsics in future commits.

Matt Arsenault b4a647449f TableGen/GlobalISel: Add way for SDNodeXForm to work on timm
The current implementation assumes there is an instruction associated
with the transform, but this is not the case for
timm/TargetConstant/immarg values. These transforms should directly
operate on a specific MachineOperand in the source
instruction. TableGen would assert if you attempted to define an
equivalent GISDNodeXFormEquiv using timm when it failed to find the
instruction matcher.

Specially recognize SDNodeXForms on timm, and pass the operand index
to the render function.

Ideally this would be a separate render function type that looks like
void renderFoo(MachineInstrBuilder, const MachineOperand&), but this
proved to be somewhat mechanically painful. Add an optional operand
index which will only be passed if the transform should only look at
the one source operand.

Theoretically it would also be possible to only ever pass the
MachineOperand, and the existing renderers would check the parent. I
think that would be somewhat ugly for the standard usage which may
want to inspect other operands, and I also think MachineOperand should
eventually not carry a pointer to the parent instruction.

Use it in one sample pattern. This isn't a great example, since the
transform exists to satisfy DAG type constraints. This could also be
avoided by just changing the MachineInstr's arbitrary choice of
operand type from i16 to i32. Other patterns have nontrivial uses, but
this serves as the simplest example.

One flaw this still has is if you try to use an SDNodeXForm defined
for imm, but the source pattern uses timm, you still see the "Failed
to lookup instruction" assert. However, there is now a way to avoid
it.

Each DAG is added to the tree builder as a leaf and partitioners are used
to subdivide each node until there are no more partitioners to apply. At
this point, the code generator is responsible for testing any untested
predicates and following any unvisited traversals (there shouldn't be any
of the latter as the getVRegDef partitioner handles them all).

Note that the leaves don't always fit into partitions cleanly and the
partitions may overlap as a result. This is resolved by cloning the leaf
into every partition it belongs to. One example of this is a rule that can
match one of N opcodes. The leaf for this rule would end up in N partitions
when processed by the opcode partitioner. A similar example is the
getVRegDef partitioner where having rules (add $a, $b), and (add ($a, $b), $c)
will result in the former being in the partition for successfully
following the vreg-def and failing to do so as it doesn't care which

While looking at cycle time graphs of some of my bots, I noticed
that 327894859c made check-llvm noticeably slower on macOS and

As it turns out, the 5 substitutions added in that change were
enough to cause lit to thrash the build-in cache in re.compile()

applySubstitutions() is on the cricital path and slow when all
regexes need to compile all the time.

(See `_MAXCACHE = 512` in cpython/Lib/re.py)

Supporting full regexes for lit substitutions seems a bit like
overkill, but for now add a simple unbounded cache to recover
the lost performance.

serge_sans_paille 24ab9b537e Generalize the pass registration mechanism used by Polly to any third-party tool
There's quite a lot of references to Polly in the LLVM CMake codebase. However
the registration pattern used by Polly could be useful to other external
projects: thanks to that mechanism it would be possible to develop LLVM
extension without touching the LLVM code base.

This patch has two effects:

1. Remove all code specific to Polly in the llvm/clang codebase, replaicing it
   with a generic mechanism

2. Provide a generic mechanism to register compiler extensions.

A compiler extension is similar to a pass plugin, with the notable difference
that the compiler extension can be configured to be built dynamically (like
plugins) or statically (like regular passes).

As a result, people willing to add extra passes to clang/opt can do it using a
separate code repo, but still have their pass be linked in clang/opt as built-in
passes.

are just noise.

Jessica Paquette dcaaede1e5 [lit] Add "from .main import main" back into lit/__init__.py
A refactoring commit (cf252240) removed this line. Removing it broke installing
lit with pip and setup.py.

This adds the line back in so that we can install lit again.

For an example of how this appeared, see:

David Spickett ba430f5032 [cmake] Add dependency on llvm-dwarfdump to llvm-locstats
Though llvm-locstat is a "util" it requires llvm-dwarfdump
to be useful. So what happens now is that unless LLVM_BUILD_TOOLS
is ON llvm-locstats won't be part of the "all" target.

However given that it requires llvm-dwarfdump, this is less
confusing/build time consuming than suddenly having llvm-dwarfdump
build when all other tools are disabled.

David Spickett 119cd70322 [cmake] Include the llvm-locstats target when
utils and tools are not being built.

This was uncovered by: https://reviews.llvm.org/D71611
Which added llvm-locstats to the test dependencies.

Previously the build target was only added if you
were building tools. This meant that you couldn't
configure at all if you had LLVM_BUILD_TOOLS=OFF.

Daniel Sanders 7ea2e5195a Revert "Temporarily Revert "[gicombiner] Add the MatchDag structure and parse instruction DAG's from the input""
This reverts commit e62e760f29.

The issue @uweigand raised should have been fixed by iterating over the
vector that owns the operand list data instead of the FoldingSet.

The MSVC issue raised by @thakis should have been fixed by relaxing the
regexes a little. I don't have a Windows machine available to test that so
I tested it by using `perl -p -e 's/0x([0-9a-f]+)/\U\1\E/g' to convert the
output of %p to the windows style.

I've guessed at the issue @phosek raised as there wasn't enough information
to investigate it. What I think is happening on that bot is the -debug
option isn't available because the second stage build is a release build.
I'm not sure why other release-mode bots didn't report it though.

Daniel Sanders 520e3d66e7 [gicombiner] Process the MatchDag such that every node is reachable from the roots
Summary:
When we build the walk across these DAG's we need to be able to reach every node
from the roots. Flip and traversal edges (so that use->def becomes def->uses)
that make nodes unreachable. Note that early on we'll just error out on these
flipped edges as def->uses edges are more complicated to match due to their
one->many nature.
