This is how it should've been and brings it more in line with

This is mostly mechanical from a custom clang-tidy check, with a lot of

Adrian Prantl 7b30370e5b Move the sysroot attribute from DIModule to DICompileUnit
[this re-applies c0176916a4
 with the correct commit message and phabricator link]

This addresses point 1 of PR44213.
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44213

The DW_AT_LLVM_sysroot attribute is used for Clang module debug info,
to allow LLDB to import a Clang module from source. Currently it is
part of each DW_TAG_module, however, it is the same for all modules in
a compile unit. It is more efficient and less ambiguous to store it
once in the DW_TAG_compile_unit.

This should have no effect on DWARF consumers other than LLDB.

Adrian Prantl 12e479475a Rename DW_AT_LLVM_isysroot to DW_AT_LLVM_sysroot
This is a purely cosmetic change that is NFC in terms of the binary
output. I bugs me that I called the attribute DW_AT_LLVM_isysroot
since the "i" is an artifact of GCC command line option syntax
(-isysroot is in the category of -i options) and doesn't carry any
useful information otherwise.

This attribute only appears in Clang module debug info.

that have nontrivial user defined constructors.

I implemented the option by adding another level to `DebugInfoKind`, and
a flag `-flimit-debug-info-constructor`.

Raphael Isemann ccfab8e459 [ObjC][DWARF] Emit DW_AT_APPLE_objc_direct for methods marked as __attribute__((objc_direct))
Summary:
With DWARF5 it is no longer possible to distinguish normal methods and methods with `__attribute__((objc_direct))` by just looking at the debug information
as they are both now children of the of the DW_TAG_structure_type that defines them (before only the `__attribute__((objc_direct))` methods were children).

This means that in LLDB we are no longer able to create a correct Clang AST of a module by just looking at the debug information. Instead we would
need to call the Objective-C runtime to see which of the methods have a `__attribute__((objc_direct))` and then add the attribute to our own Clang AST
depending on what the runtime returns. This would mean that we either let the module AST be dependent on the Objective-C runtime (which doesn't
seem right) or we retroactively add the missing attribute to the imported AST in our expressions.

A third option is to annotate methods with `__attribute__((objc_direct))` as `DW_AT_APPLE_objc_direct` which is what this patch implements. This way
LLDB doesn't have to call the runtime for any `__attribute__((objc_direct))` method and the AST in our module will already be correct when we create it.

Yonghong Song d77ae1552f [DebugInfo] Support to emit debugInfo for extern variables
Extern variable usage in BPF is different from traditional
pure user space application. Recent discussion in linux bpf
mailing list has two use cases where debug info types are
required to use extern variables:
  - extern types are required to have a suitable interface
    in libbpf (bpf loader) to provide kernel config parameters
    to bpf programs.
    https://lore.kernel.org/bpf/CAEf4BzYCNo5GeVGMhp3fhysQ=_axAf=23PtwaZs-yAyafmXC9g@mail.gmail.com/T/#t
  - extern types are required so kernel bpf verifier can
    verify program which uses external functions more precisely.
    This will make later link with actual external function no
    need to reverify.
    https://lore.kernel.org/bpf/87eez4odqp.fsf@toke.dk/T/#m8d5c3e87ffe7f2764e02d722cb0d8cbc136880ed

This patch added clang support to emit debuginfo for extern variables
with a TargetInfo hook to enable it. The debuginfo for the
extern variable is emitted only if that extern variable is
referenced in the current compilation unit.

Currently, only BPF target enables to generate debug info for
extern variables. The emission of such debuginfo is disabled for C++
 at this moment since BPF only supports a subset of C language.
Emission with C++ can be enabled later if an appropriate use case
is identified.

-fstandalone-debug permits us to see more debuginfo with the cost
of bloated binary size. This patch did not add emission of extern
variable debug info with -fstandalone-debug. This can be
re-evaluated if there is a real need.

Alex Lorenz f3efd69574 [ObjC] Make sure that the implicit arguments for direct methods have been setup
This commit sets the Self and Imp declarations for ObjC method declarations,
in addition to the definitions. It also fixes
a bunch of code in clang that had wrong assumptions about when getSelfDecl() would be set:

- CGDebugInfo::getObjCMethodName and AnalysisConsumer::getFunctionName would assume that it was
  set for method declarations part of a protocol, which they never were,
  and that self would be a Class type, which it isn't as it is id for a protocol.

Also use the Canonical Decl to index the set of Direct methods so that
when calls and implementations interleave, the same llvm::Function is
used and the same symbol name emitted.

Vedant Kumar 568db780bb [CGDebugInfo] Emit subprograms for decls when AT_tail_call is understood (reland with fixes)
Currently, clang emits subprograms for declared functions when the
target debugger or DWARF standard is known to support entry values
(DW_OP_entry_value & the GNU equivalent).

Treat DW_AT_tail_call the same way to allow debuggers to follow cross-TU
tail calls.

Pre-patch debug session with a cross-TU tail call:

```
  * frame #0: 0x0000000100000fa4 main`target at b.c:4:3 [opt]
    frame #1: 0x0000000100000f99 main`main at a.c:8:10 [opt]
```

Post-patch (note that the tail-calling frame, "helper", is visible):

```
  * frame #0: 0x0000000100000fa4 main`target at b.c:4:3 [opt]
    frame #1: 0x0000000100000f80 main`helper [opt] [artificial]
    frame #2: 0x0000000100000f99 main`main at a.c:8:10 [opt]
```

This was reverted in 5b9a072c because it attached declaration
subprograms to inlinable builtin calls, which interacted badly with the
MergeICmps pass. The fix is to not attach declarations to builtins.

Adrian Prantl 901cc4a4bc Debug Info: Nest Objective-C property function decls inside their container.
This has the nice side-effect of also fixing a crash in Clang.

Starting with DWARF 5 we are emitting ObjC method declarations as
children of their containing entity. This worked for interfaces, but
didn't consider the case of synthessized properties. When a property
of a protocol is synthesized in an interface implementation the
ObjCMethodDecl that was passed to CGF::StartFunction was the property
*declaration* which obviously couldn't have a containing
interface. This patch passes the containing interface all the way
through to CGDebugInfo, so the function declaration can be created
with the correct parent (= the class implementing the protocol).

Richard Sandiford eb485fbc71 Add SVE opaque built-in types
This patch adds the SVE built-in types defined by the Procedure Call
Standard for the Arm Architecture:

   https://developer.arm.com/docs/100986/0000

It handles the types in all relevant places that deal with built-in types.
At the moment, some of these places bail out with an error, including:

   (1) trying to generate LLVM IR for the types
   (2) trying to generate debug info for the types
   (3) trying to mangle the types using the Microsoft C++ ABI
   (4) trying to @encode the types in Objective C

(1) and (2) are fixed by follow-on patches but (unlike this patch)
they deal mostly with target-specific LLVM details, so seemed like
a logically separate change. There is currently no spec for (3) and
(4), so reporting an error seems like the correct behaviour for now.

The intention is that the types will become sizeless types:

   http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/cfe-dev/2019-June/062523.html

The main purpose of the sizeless type extension is to diagnose
impossible or dangerous uses of the types, such as any that would
require sizeof to have a meaningful defined value.

Until then, the patch sets the alignments of the types to the values
specified in the link above. It also sets the sizes of the types to
zero, which is chosen to be consistently wrong and shouldn't affect
correctly-written code (i.e. code that would compile even with the
sizeless type extension).

The patch adds the common subset of functionality needed to test the
sizeless type extension on the one hand and to provide SVE intrinsic
functions on the other. After this patch, the two pieces of work are
essentially independent.

The patch is based on one by Graham Hunter:

Like llc we can also derive whether to enable Split DWARF from whether

The test CodeGen/split-debug-filename.c distinguished between having set
or not set -enable-split-dwarf with -split-dwarf-file, but we can
probably just always emit the metadata into the IR.

The flag -split-dwarf wasn't used at all anymore.

Summary:
With Split DWARF the resulting object file (then called skeleton CU)
contains the file name of another ("DWO") file with the debug info.
This can be a problem for remote compilation, as it will contain the
name of the file on the compilation server, not on the client.

To use Split DWARF with remote compilation, one needs to either

* make sure only relative paths are used, and mirror the build directory
  structure of the client on the server,
* inject the desired file name on the client directly.

Since llc already supports the latter solution, we're just copying that
over. We allow setting the actual output filename separately from the
value of the DW_AT_[GNU_]dwo_name attribute in the skeleton CU.

Reid Kleckner 2dbd5d84ec Use primary template parameter names for variable template debug info
Summary:
Fixes PR41677

Consider:
  template <typename LHS, typename RHS> constexpr bool is_same_v = false;
  template <typename T> constexpr bool is_same_v<T, T> = true;
  template constexpr bool is_same_v<int, int>;

Before this change, when emitting debug info for the
`is_same_v<int, int>` global variable, clang would crash because it
would try to use the template parameter list from the partial
specialization to give parameter names to template arguments. This
doesn't work in general, since a partial specialization can have fewer
arguments than the primary template. Therefore, always use the primary
template. Hypothetically we could try to use the parameter names from
the partial specialization when possible, but it's not clear this really
helps debugging in practice.

version of createFileID, and since llvm::SourceMgr* hands out a const
llvm::MemoryBuffer* this is required. I'm not sure if fixing the TODO
this way actually works, but this seems like a good change on its own
anyways.

No intended behavior change.

  We need to emit correct data for address classes of, at least, shared

  the cuda-gdb debugger as the variables in the global address space
  and, thus, it require manual data type casting.

Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM

Adrian Prantl 212c104ea3 Reapply "Avoid emitting redundant or unusable directories in DIFile metadata entries.""
This reverts commit r348280 and reapplies D55085 without modifications.

Original commit message:

    Avoid emitting redundant or unusable directories in DIFile metadata entries.

    As discussed on llvm-dev recently, Clang currently emits redundant
    directories in DIFile entries, such as

      .file      1 "/Volumes/Data/llvm" "/Volumes/Data/llvm/tools/clang/test/CodeGen/debug-info-abspath.c"

    This patch looks at any common prefix between the compilation
    directory and the (absolute) file path and strips the redundant
    part. More importantly it leaves the compilation directory empty if
    the two paths have no common prefix.

    After this patch the above entry is (assuming a compilation dir of "/Volumes/Data/llvm/_build"):

      .file 1 "/Volumes/Data/llvm" "tools/clang/test/CodeGen/debug-info-abspath.c"

    When building the FileCheck binary with debug info, this patch makes
    the build artifacts ~1kb smaller.

This caused a miscompile in Chrome (see crbug.com/908372) that's
illustrated by this small reduction:

  static bool f(int *a, int *b) {

  }

  int arr[] = {1,2,3};

  bool g() {

  $ clang -O2 -S -emit-llvm a.cc -o -

g() should return true, but after r347417 it became false for some reason.

Vedant Kumar 5931b4e5b5 [DebugInfo] Add support for DWARF5 call site-related attributes
DWARF v5 introduces DW_AT_call_all_calls, a subprogram attribute which
indicates that all calls (both regular and tail) within the subprogram
have call site entries. The information within these call site entries
can be used by a debugger to populate backtraces with synthetic tail
call frames.

Tail calling frames go missing in backtraces because the frame of the
caller is reused by the callee. Call site entries allow a debugger to
reconstruct a sequence of (tail) calls which led from one function to
another. This improves backtrace quality. There are limitations: tail
recursion isn't handled, variables within synthetic frames may not
survive to be inspected, etc. This approach is not novel, see:

  https://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/summit2010?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=jelinek.pdf

This patch adds an IR-level flag (DIFlagAllCallsDescribed) which lowers
to DW_AT_call_all_calls. It adds the minimal amount of DWARF generation
support needed to emit standards-compliant call site entries. For easier
deployment, when the debugger tuning is LLDB, the DWARF requirement is
adjusted to v4.

Testing: Apart from check-{llvm, clang}, I built a stage2 RelWithDebInfo
clang binary. Its dSYM passed verification and grew by 1.4% compared to
the baseline. 151,879 call site entries were added.

David Blaikie 658645241b DebugInfo: Add the ability to disable DWARF name tables entirely
This changes the current default behavior (from emitting pubnames by
default, to not emitting them by default) & moves to matching GCC's
behavior* with one significant difference: -gno(-gnu)-pubnames disables
pubnames even in the presence of -gsplit-dwarf (though -gsplit-dwarf
still by default enables -ggnu-pubnames). This allows users to disable
pubnames (& the new DWARF5 accelerated access tables) when they might
not be worth the size overhead.

* GCC's behavior is that -ggnu-pubnames and -gpubnames override each
other, and that -gno-gnu-pubnames and -gno-pubnames act as synonyms and
disable either kind of pubnames if they come last. (eg: -gpubnames
-gno-gnu-pubnames causes no pubnames (neither gnu or standard) to be
emitted)

Jonas Devlieghere d8ba8ae875 [DebugInfo] Emit ObjC methods as part of interface
As brought up during the discussion of the DWARF5 accelerator tables,
there is currently no way to associate Objective-C methods with the
interface they belong to, other than the .apple_objc accelerator table.

After due consideration we came to the conclusion that it makes more
sense to follow Pavel's suggestion of just emitting this information in
the .debug_info section. One concern was that categories were
emitted in the .apple_names as well, but it turns out that LLDB doesn't
rely on the accelerator tables for this information.

This patch changes the codegen behavior to emit subprograms for
structure types, like we do for C++. This will result in the
DW_TAG_subprogram being nested as a child under its
DW_TAG_structure_type. This behavior is only enabled for DWARF5 and
later, so we can have a unique code path in LLDB with regards to
obtaining the class methods.

This was tested on the LLDB side and doesn't lead to a regression.
There's already code in place to deal with member functions in C++,
which deals with this transparently.

Reid Kleckner cbec0269ba Fix some DenseMap use-after-rehash bugs and hoist MethodVFTableLocation
This re-lands r328845 with fixes for crbug.com/827810.

The initial motiviation was to hoist MethodVFTableLocation to global
scope so it could be forward declared.

In this patch, I noticed that MicrosoftVTableContext uses some risky
patterns. It has methods that return references to data stored in
DenseMaps. I've made some of them return by value for trivial structs
and I've moved some things into separate allocations.

This allows forward declaring it so that we can add it to

VTableBuilder.h. That saves a hashtable lookup when emitting virtual

It also shortens a really long type name. This struct has "VFtable" in
the name, so it seems pretty unlikely that someone will assume it is
generally useful for non-MS C++ ABI stuff.

George Burgess IV 00f70bd933 Remove redundant casts. NFC
So I wrote a clang-tidy check to lint out redundant `isa`, `cast`, and
`dyn_cast`s for fun. This is a portion of what it found for clang; I
plan to do similar cleanups in LLVM and other subprojects when I find
time.

Because of the volume of changes, I explicitly avoided making any change
that wasn't highly local and obviously correct to me (e.g. we still have
a number of foo(cast<Bar>(baz)) that I didn't touch, since overloading
is a thing and the cast<Bar> did actually change the type -- just up the
class hierarchy).

I also tried to leave the types we were cast<>ing to somewhere nearby,
in cases where it wasn't locally obvious what we were dealing with
before.

Taewook Oh 0fb5b78892 Use the file name from linemarker for debug info if an input is preprocessed source.
Summary:
Even in the case of the input file is a preprocessed source, clang uses the file name of the preprocesses source for debug info (DW_AT_name attribute for DW_TAG_compile_unit). However, gcc uses the file name specified in the first linemarker instead. This makes more sense because the one specified in the linemarker represents the "actual" source file name.

Clang already uses the file name specified in the first linemarker for Module name (https://github.com/llvm-mirror/clang/blob/master/lib/Frontend/FrontendAction.cpp#L779) if the input is preprocessed. This patch makes clang to use the same value for debug info as well.

Florian Hahn 3dbcced000 Align definition of DW_OP_plus with DWARF spec [2/3]
Summary:
This patch is part of 3 patches that together form a single patch, but must be introduced in stages in order not to break things.

The way that LLVM interprets DW_OP_plus in DIExpression nodes is basically that of the DW_OP_plus_uconst operator since LLVM expects an unsigned constant operand. This unnecessarily restricts the DW_OP_plus operator, preventing it from being used to describe the evaluation of runtime values on the expression stack. These patches try to align the semantics of DW_OP_plus and DW_OP_minus with that of the DWARF definition, which pops two elements off the expression stack, performs the operation and pushes the result back on the stack.

This is done in three stages:
	•	The first patch (LLVM) adds support for DW_OP_plus_uconst and changes all uses (and tests) of DW_OP_plus to use DW_OP_plus_uconst.

	•	The second patch (Clang) contains changes to use DW_OP_plus_uconst instead of DW_OP_plus.

	•	The third patch (LLVM) changes the semantics of DW_OP_plus to be in line with it’s DWARF meaning. It also does this for DW_OP_minus.

Reid Kleckner 06a4b2ae1d Correct debug info bit offset calculation for big-endian targets
Summary:
The change "[CodeView] Implement support for bit fields in
Clang" (r274201, https://reviews.llvm.org/rL274201) broke the
calculation of bit offsets for the debug info describing bitfields on
big-endian targets.

Prior to commit r274201 the debug info for bitfields got their offsets
from the ASTRecordLayout in CGDebugInfo::CollectRecordFields(), the
current field offset was then passed on to
CGDebugInfo::CollectRecordNormalField() and used directly in the
DIDerivedType.

Since commit r274201, the bit offset ending up in the DIDerivedType no
longer comes directly from the ASTRecordLayout. Instead
CGDebugInfo::CollectRecordNormalField() calls the new method
CGDebugInfo::createBitFieldType(), which in turn calls
CodeGenTypes::getCGRecordLayout().getBitFieldInfo() to fetch a
CGBitFieldInfo describing the field. The 'Offset' member of
CGBitFieldInfo is then used to calculate the bit offset of the
DIDerivedType. Unfortunately the previous and current method of
calculating the bit offset are only equivalent for little endian
targets, as CGRecordLowering::setBitFieldInfo() reverses the bit
offsets for big endian targets as the last thing it does.

A simple reproducer for this error is the following module:

struct fields {
  unsigned a : 4;
  unsigned b : 4;
} flags = {0x0f, 0x1};

Compiled for Mips, with commit r274200 both the DIDerivedType bit
offsets on the IR-level and the DWARF information on the ELF-level
will have the expected values: the offsets of 'a' and 'b' are 0 and 4
respectively. With r274201 the offsets are switched to 4 and 0. By
noting that the static initialization of 'flags' in both cases is the
same, we can eliminate a change in record layout as the cause of the
change in the debug info. Also compiling this example with gcc,
produces the same record layout and debug info as commit r274200.

In order to restore the previous function we extend
CGDebugInfo::createBitFieldType() to compensate for the reversal done
in CGRecordLowering::setBitFieldInfo().

David Blaikie 8150355498 Move Split DWARF handling to an MC option/command line argument rather than using metadata
Since Split DWARF needs to name the actual .dwo file that is generated,
it can't be known at the time the llvm::Module is produced as it may be
merged with other Modules before the object is generated and that object
may be generated with any name.

By passing the Split DWARF file name when LLVM is producing object code
the .dwo file name in the object file can match correctly.

The support for Split DWARF for implicit modules remains the same -
using metadata to store the dwo name and dwo id so that potentially
multiple skeleton CUs referring to different dwo files can be generated
from one llvm::Module.

Adrian Prantl c3782a1a6f Debug Info: Remove special-casing of indirect function argument handling.
LLVM has changed the semantics of dbg.declare for describing function
arguments. After this patch a dbg.declare always takes the *address*
of a variable as the first argument, even if the argument is not an
alloca.

David Blaikie 1ac9c98e6c Modular Codegen: Support homing debug info for types in modular objects
Matching the function-homing support for modular codegen. Any type
implicitly (implicit template specializations) or explicitly defined in
a module is attached to that module's object file and omitted elsewhere
(only a declaration used if necessary for references).

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith 60fa28882e Modules: Use hash of PCM content for SIGNATURE
Change ASTFileSignature from a random 32-bit number to the hash of the
PCM content.

  - Move definition ASTFileSignature to Basic/Module.h so Module and
    ASTSourceDescriptor can use it.

  - Change the signature from uint64_t to std::array<uint32_t,5>.

  - Stop using (saving/reading) the size and modification time of PCM
    files when there is a valid SIGNATURE.

  - Add UNHASHED_CONTROL_BLOCK, and use it to store the SIGNATURE record
    and other records that shouldn't affect the hash. Because implicit
    modules reuses the same file for multiple levels of -Werror, this
    includes DIAGNOSTIC_OPTIONS and DIAG_PRAGMA_MAPPINGS.

This helps to solve a PCH + implicit Modules dependency issue: PCH files
are handled by the external build system, whereas implicit modules are
handled by internal compiler build system. This prevents invalidating a
PCH when the compiler overwrites a PCM file with the same content
(modulo the diagnostic differences).

Adrian Prantl b7acfc0139 PR32042: Create inlined debug info for EmitInlinedInheritingCXXConstructorCall.
When clang emits an inheriting C++ constructor it may inline code
during the CodeGen phase. This patch ensures that any debug info in
this inlined code gets a proper inlined location. Otherwise we can end
up with invalid debug info metadata, since all inlined local variables
and function arguments would be reparented into the call site.

Analogous to ApplyInlineLocation this patch introduces a
ApplyInlineDebugLocation scoped helper to facilitate entering an
inlined scope and cleaning up afterwards.

This fixes one of the issues discovered in PR32042.
